EXISTING TOOLS DO NOT OFFER WHAT YOU NEED
EXISTING MARKET LOOKS GENERIC & BORING
MYFUTURE.COM
the competition: Existing college and career guidance websites do not connect students to real people. They offer connections to school websites and other career finding websites. These existing sites all look very similar to one another. The design is not interesting or user friendly, and looks cheap and outdated. Shift seeks to stand out against this competition with color and style.

How shift helps me...
MENTALLY SPIRITUALLY FUNCTIONALLY SOCIALLY
MENTAL I feel that I am making a smarter, better decision for my post-high school graduation plans, and for my future.
SPIRITUAL Helps me feel that I am more in control of my own destiny, and that the future I have ahead of me is more exciting and clear.
FUNCTIONAL Allows me to connect to colleges, universities, and other opportunities I may not otherwise know how to communicate with.
SOCIAL Allows me to connect to others and start a new social experience I will have in college and in my post-high school life. It also makes me look like I have my act together to both my peers and parents.
SPEAKS TO MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF STUDENTS ON MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS.
THE INDECISIVE OVERACHIEVER Emily is a high school senior in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a very good student, finishing with a GPA of 4.2 in her class. She is looking at seven different schools including Duke, University of North Carolina, Wake Forest, Baylor, Eastern Carolina, Georgetown, and Elon. She is a smart girl and has considered her options many times. College is such a huge decision, and she cannot make up her mind on the college of her choice. Each school has both positives and negatives, and therefore the logical decision which has always come so easy to Emily is just not apparent. She has friends at a few of these schools, but not at all of them. Emily is about ready to flip a coin to decide, when she gets a post card in the mail for SHIFT. She goes to the website and signs up for an account. Quickly, Emily is linked up to college students from each school she is considering. She chooses the person she would like to talk to based on her interests and major choices at each school, and meets Kelly, a junior at Elon. Soon after talking to Kelly, Emily realizes that her final decision is Elon, and feels comforted, happy, excited, and ready to conquer the world, as well as college.

THE SLACKER Josh is a college sophomore that goes to school at the University of Kansas. He is from Austin Texas, and has been a loyal member of SHIFT since his senior year of high school. Josh learned of SHIFT from his high school guidance counselor when he was a senior, and checked it out. He was your stereotypical slacker in high school, and was very lost when applying to colleges until he signed up for SHIFT. There, he was able to connect to college students with his similar interests and desires. Through SHIFT, he landed upon the University of Kansas, which wasn’t even on his radar before joining SHIFT. He is thankful he joined, and stays a member so that he can reach out to other high school seniors that might be stuck in the same dilemma that he had been in three years before. He gets updates and notifications from SHIFT sent through e-mail to his phone so that he can answer any questions from lost high schoolers looking for help.
THE UNDECIDED MAJOR Sean is a junior in high school from Houston, Texas and has been pressured lately to decide his career path from his parents. The do not want to take him on college tours without his major decided. Sean has spent most of high school playing sports, but will not pursue an athletic career in college due to an injury that occurred earlier this year. He has a few possible careers in mind, and a list of colleges and universities he is interested in, but really has no idea where to start looking. The school websites he glances at are sterile and intimidating. He feels that he is being pressured from everyone including future colleges to decide on a career path. Sean learns of SHIFT through a friend that is a senior and decides to sign up to take a look. He logs on, and creates a profile. He first starts to look at the University of Texas through the site just to look. He is directed to UT student that is currently enrolled as undecided. This is a possibility for Sean. He is next directed to a student enrolled in the Business program at UT. Sean is able to discuss the classes this student takes, and the opportunities that are offered.

THE direction Colors and typefaces where chosen to appeal to high school aged students. The color yellow is most dominant color, and was chosen to be loud, memorable, and happy. It is also gender neutral, and references the yellow school bus. The typefaces were chosen to allow for heavy typographic design. They also have a nice contrast of a being trendy and dynamic while also personable to the audience.
graphic elements The graphic elements utilize both clean simple elements and hand made elements. This creates a nice contrast that the audience will identify with. This contrast makes the brand unique and edgy compared to its competition. Different paper textures are utilized throughout the brand serving as a link between the hand made elements and simple graphic elements.
