CAREER SERVICES AT-A-GLANCE/ FALL 2014

The College of Art has a dedicated career services office that provides support to art + design students, as they explore and pursue professional and/or academic opportunities, pre- and post-grad. In addition to these programs, the office partners with faculty on a number of initiatives that are major-specific, and often held in studio, throughout the year.

1:1 ADVISING

QUICK ADVISING

One-on-one advising helps students crystallize their interests and guides them on how to structure the search while helping to identify and develop the tools to effectively target prospects — whether an internship, job, residency, fellowship, graduate school or other professional opportunity. Students may also schedule a 1:1 mock interview, anytime throughout the year. To make an appointment with Jen Meyer or another advisor, call 935-5930. This 10-minute check-in is ideal for a quick review of a resume, edits to a cover letter, or trouble-shooting a follow-up strategy with a prospect. Held Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays 2 to 4 p.m. Available to those who have had a 1:1 appointment previously. Weekly sign-up sheets are posted Tuesday mornings, outside 005 Steinberg.

PRO PRACTICES SEMINAR DESIGN MAJORS

The Pro Practices seminar is designed to provide a foundation for students to pursue professional, transitional and further academic opportunities with confidence. Offered to Fashion juniors, Communication Design juniors and Communication Design seniors. The eight-week program includes sessions on the development of resume, cover letter, online presence and portfolio; and, skill-building sessions focused on networking, interviewing, social media and professional etiquette. The series concludes with a session devoted to the development of a timeline and action plan that students can begin to initiate over winter break. In the spring, a second series is held to put these skills and materials to work, and provides a support system to facilitate the search and pursuit of the intended opportunity. Fall seminars begin on Wednesday, September 25. For more information, please contact Jen Meyer.

PRO PRACTICES SEMINAR STUDIO MAJORS
