‘Exterior doors should provide weather tight seals when closed and maintain the approximate thermal value of the exterior walls they penetrate’ set’ (Ching, 2014).
Location and size of the openings for doors and windows need to carefully be considered in response to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Fire rating needs to be considered.

Glossary of terms Window Sash: ‘the fixed or movable framework of a window in which panes of glass are set’ (Ching, 2014).
Deflection:
‘the perpendicular distance a spanning member deviates from a true course under transverse loading, increasing with load and span.’ (Ching, 2014).
Moment of Inertia:
‘is the sum of the products of each element of an area and the square of its difference from coplanar axis of rotation’ (Ching, 2014).
Door Furniture: ‘includes the metal fastenings and fittings required for the operation of a door, such as hinges, lock sets and closers.’ (Ching, 2014).
Stress: ’the internal resistance or reaction of an elastic body to external forces applied to it’ (Ching, 2014).
