MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

Our 316-acre campus may seem large, but when you live on campus, you’ll learn your way around in no time!

LIVING ON CAMPUS

You’ll find a variety of living options to suit your needs at SHSU. We offer both female-only and co-ed residence halls that are fully furnished, as well as small houses and apartments. If you’re interested in the Honors College or specific majors, you can apply to live in one of our living communities, where you’ll have the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers and form deeper relationships with your professors. All first-year students who have been out of high school for less than a year are required to live in university housing and participate in the university meal plan.

APPLY FOR HOUSING

To apply for housing, students must first be accepted to SHSU. Refer to the SHSU Residence Life website shsu.edu/reslife for applicable fees and cancellation deadlines. Housing applications may be made online through the MySam Student Portal:

REQUIRED VACCINATION

All students under the age of 22 are required, by Texas law, to be vaccinated against bacterial meningitis prior to moving into the residence halls and attending classes.

NOVEMBER 1

Housing application opens to new students.

Room self selection in progress.

AUGUST 15 - 17

First-year student move-in.

MARCH - JUNE

Roommate selection available.

AUGUST 15 - 24

Upperclassmen student move-in.

Using the online MySam Housing Portal, SHSU students select their desired room and are able to make room changes until shortly before halls open. Students also have the option to choose a roommate during the application process.

Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to sign a contract as soon as possible.

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Agriculture Living Community

Open to first-year students seeking a career in agriculture. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall .

Criminal Justice Living Community

Designed for first-year students who are committed to criminal justice majors. Participating students will live in San Jacinto Hall

Education Living Community

Open to first-year students with declared education majors. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall

College of Health Sciences

Health Careers Living Community

Open to first-year students in the College of Health Sciences interested in health careers. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall

Humanities and Social Sciences

Open to first-year students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences who share an interest in a career working with and helping others. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall

Pre-Nursing

Living Community

Open to first-year students considering a career in nursing and who have a major in the College of Health Sciences. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall .

STEM Living Community

Open to first-year non-agricultural majors in the College of Science and Engineering Technology. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall

With four main dining locations around campus, including options like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, you can choose what fits your mood. We offer three meal plan levels for resident students, all of which come with Bearkat Bucks, our pre-paid system you can use across campus, for your convenience.

CAM Creative Community

Open to all students in the College of Arts and Media. Participating students will live in Belvin-Buchanan Hall

Honors Living Community

Open to students accepted into the Elliott T. Bowers Honors College. Participating students will live in Piney Woods Hall

our Living Communities.

All Access Plan - $2,750

Unlimited dining hall access, and $150 in Bearkat Bucks.

15 Meals Per Week - $2,650 15 meals per week, and $300 in Bearkat Bucks.

10 Meals Per Week - $1,960

10 meals per week, and $450 in Bearkat Bucks.

Available for sophomore and above, not available for first-year required students.
