REQUEST A FSA ID
You must request a FSA ID to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.
SUBMIT THE FAFSA*
Complete the FAFSA online (SHSU code: 003606) at studentaid.gov.
ACCEPT YOUR OPTIONS
Review your aid notification and accept or decline each aid offer on your MySam at shsu.edu/finaid/awards.
UNDERSTAND YOUR LOANS
If you accept a Direct Loan, you must complete a Master Promissory Note, an Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement and loan entrance counseling online at studentaid.gov.
MAINTAIN YOUR GRADES
Financial aid recipients must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.
APPLY EACH YEAR
Complete the Renewal FAFSA to receive financial aid each year you are enrolled. * The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the basis for financial aid decisions at most universities. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office administers more than 600 scholarships for achievement in academic, leadership, honors and extracurricular activities.
Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, loans and work study. Most aid, except for some scholarships, are based on individual need and eligibility.
SHSU uses a streamlined application, Scholarships4Kats, allowing students to be automatically considered for all relevant scholarships. Once accepted to SHSU, students have access to the online scholarship application portal.
■ GRANTS are gift aid and do not have to
be repaid. ■ SCHOLARSHIPS are generally merit-based
gifts that do not require repayment. ■ LOANS must be repaid with interest. ■ WORK STUDY provides wages for part-time employment with SHSU. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available on October 1. For faster processing, apply online at studentaid.gov. The school code for SHSU is 003606. FAFSA priority deadlines are November 1 (Fall and Spring) and September 30 (Spring only).
