the first time in a decade, French fashion house Dior has launched a new men’s fragrance. or
Dior Sauvage is only the seventh fragrance for men that the brand has produced since 1966 and fronting the campaign for the maison de parfums is Hollywood royalty Johnny Depp. If Dior had to hazard a guess as to what the scent of adventure really is, Sauvage would probably be the correct answer. The cologne has a rich fragrance that is both fresh and spicy with elements of patchouli that round

off an irresistible fragrance. Everything about the teaser trailer for Depp’s campaign for Dior suggests an escape from the city and into the wild and that is exactly what the scent is reminiscent of. It is a fragrance for the man that works to live, who relishes adventure and yearns for a splash of excitement. A decade in the making, Dior has certainly used its time well and produced an incredibly luxurious cologne that we will certainly putting on our wish lists.

The city break
BOSTON
page 20 MR PORTER MAGAZINE
Tucked up in the North East of the United States, Boston is not necessarily as popular as other destinations in America but the city has a lot more to offer than most may think.
would be excused for thinking that it has something of an inferiority complex, jealously watching it’s more southerly rival New York.
city but everywhere the old is proudly enshrined by the new. This is perfectly evidenced by John Hancock Tower, 60-storeys of glass engineered to reflect the architecture around it.
But the city boasts a mix of history and culture blended with modern luxury that makes Boston the perfect city break for the modern gent.
A short walk away from the John Hancock Tower is Copley Place, a mall containing a number of luxury retailers including Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Tiffany as well as many more.
There’s a sense of solidarity amongst the proud Bostonians, particularly following the tragic marathon bombing in 2013, but as with much of America the residents are welcoming to visitors and keen to voice the pride they have for their city with good reason too. The titanic skyscrapers of the financial district are juxtaposed against the historic buildings that housed the first murmurs of revolution in America. It’s fitting that the reclaimed land that Boston grew on is carved from the ancient hills that the pilgrims originally inhabited. It is a modern, forward thinking
Sure Philadelphia may be the recognised birthplace of independence, but Boston was certainly the place where it was conceived. A number of the founding fathers lie in a cemetery a block away from Boston Common. It is well known amongst locals that the bar across the road is the only place in the city you can enjoy a cold Samuel Adams with a view of a cold Samuel Adams. Historical highlights include the Old State Hall, which features the lion and unicorn of the United Kingdom – a remnant of colonial history. Hopping onto

the Freedom Trail, a red brick line through the city, will guide you to some of the most notable landmarks that Boston has to offer. Boston is home to the Red Sox baseball team. A trip to Fenway Park, America’s most beloved baseball park is certainly a must for any sports fan. Just don’t mention the Yankees. There is a well-established Irish community within Boston, which the (mispronounced) Celtics basketball team owes its name to. However it is the Italian area of the city where you can find some of the best food. Stepping away from the busy main streets, there are many smaller family-run restaurants serving dishes ‘the way mama used to make them’. For a dining experience with a view and to sample some of Boston’s famous ‘clam chowda’, you can do no better than the Top of the Hub restaurant. On top of the Prudential building, you can take in unrivalled views of the city and enjoy haute cuisine.
