ODA

A room with no possibilities; A room with every possibility.

ODA, the 21st century micro dwelling, is designed for a young couple in their mid-twenties, who are designers in the profession of creativity. They are passionate about their careers and obsessed with one another. The young couple will inhabit the ODA for 5 to 7 years, the amount of time it will take them to fall out of love and realize what they really want in life, then, ODA will become the home to a new couple and start the cycle over. In this reality, money is irrelevant and thus the inhabitants don’t need to worry about rent or utilities. This is the future where people can pursue their dreams and do as they please. ODA is located in the vertical wall of the Robert Kirk Alley in downtown San Francisco, California. Inspired by Eileen Gray and her use of creating multiple illusions of space, every programmatic aspect is concealed within the shell of ODA. A room with no possibilities; A room with every possibility. More than 50% of its mass sits in one of the vertical walls of the alley, in-between two floor plates of that building. ODA is a leech. Its constructed of wood, finished with spackle to reveals its natural properties, but remains this ephemeral solid that fills a void. ODA is a loner.

Kärv

Quarry as an Architecture

Kärv, respects the Quarry as an Architecture. Located in San Rafeal, this quarry houses the program. It utilizes existing elements of the Quarry to establish program. Additionally, Kärv respects the creation of the Quarry in that the program is carved out of the surface of the Quarry walls. The re-utilization of the Quarry brings life to something that was once deserted and left to the native plants and animals to reclaim. Kärv does not restore the Quarry, because one of this project’s focuses is Quarry as an Architecture, so it’s taken as is and utilized as is. Kärv is meant to be a refuge for artists. A place where artists in the area can come and get away from their own, individual worldly distractions. The design language takes from the “hidden quality” of the Quarry. Each structure concealing its programmatic aspects, invisible when not occupying those spaces, inspired by Peter Zumthor’s Therme Vals.

Maison Bordeaux, located in Bordeaux, France, was constructed in 1998 by Rem Koolhaas’ OMA. Koolhaas proposed 3 spatially distinct volumes stacked upon one another connected by a vertically moving space, that being the client’s office and also a platform elevator. Each floor took on different characteristics and very distinct organizational systems, from a mass carved into the hillside to conceal the family’s private activates to a transparent volume that blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor space, to the final opaque “floating” volume that contains the bedrooms. 2 A111

Aura

Design Competition

Aura radiates tranquility and chaoticism. Aura embodies these emotions with the use of a deep red, wooden skeletal structure with triangular chiffon cutouts on the exterior and interior. Black chiffon on the exterior to exude fierce, dominant, unpredictability, while the interior white chiffon radiates harmonious, calm, peacefulness. Both emotion states inspired by the many levels of Aura in Hinduism believes. Light played a major role to bring Aura to life. During daylight, the sun would move alone the path of the spine of Aura, as it hugged the curve of the gentle slope it was constructed on, creating harsh, jagged shadows. During night fall, a series of LED string lights placed along the interior, radiated a welcoming warmth of Aura. My team and I constructed Aura in the courtyard of our Architecture department, then transported it 250 miles, and finally walking the 2000lb structure a total of 20miles to set it up in the hills of San Luis Obispo.

23 Street Cut Out House Intern/Fougeron Architecture

While interning for Fougeron Architecture, one of my tasks was to create a 3D model, inspired by one of OMA’s works, to submit to a design competition. 23 Cut Out House is a remodel of an almost 100-yearold Victorian Home located in San Francisco, CA. The model’s intended use was to showcase the reorganization of the interior structure of the home.
