Samir was nominated as the lead technology director for the joint venture between SOM and three other firms. He worked with Veteran Administration in D.C. to transfer the VA guidelines to the first VA BIM standards. The medical center includes a diagnostic and treatment center, ambulatory care clinics, various laboratories, and inpatient and convenient care facilities. Room Data Sheets (RDS) are a key component in the design of health and science buildings. Samir created a customized system with a central SQL server to record and track RDS from user group meetings, to construction documents for about 6,400 rooms. This system became the core for program management, door schedules and signage.
Project Details This new medical complex in Aurora, Colorado, will replace an aging facility and enable the federal agency to provide top-notch healthcare to the region’s growing population of veterans. The 1.2-million-square-foot hospital consists of nine buildings, three parking structures, and a curved central concourse that connects them. All of the buildings will be approximately 70 feet high, with three levels. Project Facts Completion Year: 2017 Building Height: 70 ft Number of Stories: 3

The Performative Design Group (PDG) at SOM worked with Samir in the design phase for the optimization of daylighting as well as tracking program areas and equipment placement. Project Details The building’s use of crisp white metal and glass establishes a modern aesthetic and consistent brand identity for the Indianapolis campus of Roche Diagnostics, a Swiss-based pharmaceutical company. Comprised of three distinct zones, the building is organized around double-height, skylit spaces. Daylighting is provided through a combination of north-facing skylights and extensive exterior glazing, which is protected from thermal gain by adjustable, exterior mechanical shading devices. The project won the 2014 International Architecture Award Chicago Athenaeum and first place in New Commercial Buildings ASHRAE Region VI.

Project Details The complex is part of the thriving Moscow City, consisting of an 85-story skyscraper and a 49-story office tower connected at the base by a transparent crystalline structure. The elegant towers gradually taper away from each other as they stretch upward.
Project Details Each of the three buildings has a unique expression by the introduction of multistory foyers that are expressed on the building exterior. The Parcel E-01 Ping An Tower incorporates trademark atrium within elevator Zones 3 and 4 that serve the insurance company offices and other high end tenancies. The atria in this building will wrap all four sides of the building, provide a leisure and amenity space, access to fresh air, and beauty and tranquility of an enclosed bamboo garden in the sky. Internal atria that are sky lit provide interoffice and inter-departmental connectivity between office levels.

Technical Proficiency + Industry Experience Jumeirah Garden City Dubai, UAE
Manulife Financial: 601 Congress Street Boston, Massachusetts, USA
With the large development scale of Jumeirah Garden City, there were number of codes needed to be met to achieve the development goals. Samir lead getting FAR and setbacks calculations in a database that offered direct link between modeling applications and InDesign presentation boards. This includes the assignment of standardized colors based on preset color scheme. The solution offered the team the flexibility of studying multiple design options. Land use was also optimized at each block level for parks, community facilities and residential areas. The optimization program was developed to distribute the ideal combination of different residential flat units and single family houses based on the program.

Samir believes that volunteering and community service makes a positive impact. These non-profit organizations help strengthen the community and unite people from different backgrounds to work together towards a better future for all.
The visual approach utilizes a series of interactive webbased learning modules, or 'gizmos'. These small JAVA applets, are the tools that the learner may use to examine one structural concept at a time. These gizmos, by being interactive, offer more possibilities beyond what one solved problem can demonstrate.
He enjoys working with the youth as the future leaders and to develop better solutions that improve living and environmental conditions. Samir is serving an as advisory council member of few nonprofit and relief organizations offering guidance, mentorship as well as volunteering.
