Cover Render:
replica of a stair on campus
Process:
rendered in Rhino 5.0 (as seen on next spread). imported into Adobe Photoshop (overlaid exported line work, created vertical black lines, gaussian blur over everything)
The intellectual force of the West is still dominant, but other cultures are getting stronger. I expect that we will develop a new way of thinking in architecture and urban planning, and that less will be based on our models. Rem Koolhaas

Medium: Bristol paper, graphite (B3-B6, HB, H2-H9) & charcoal
S.1
Medium:
graphite, micron pen, charcoal, sign pen, watercolor, and Photoshop
Photoshop:
combined the 5 physical mediums, bumped the colors and contrasts, put in a textured background
S.2
Medium:
panoramic shot 3 layers of trace: graphite, micron pen, & charcoal water colored sky and pants.

Le Modular:
create spaces based off of human body with movement through the space
Mediums:
photography, trace paper, cardboard, Rhino 5.0, museum board, chipboard, Pine wood, and Plaster
Process:
start with picture of human body and draw lines begin to abstract the human body into a space then to digital back to physical (etc.) always to simplify
L.1
Abstraction:
create an abstracted interior space from the Spacial Study (above) using line and plane
Process:
use represenative materials of the project to create planar and interior spacial qualities with a goal to define a sense of asymmetrical balance.
Medium:
mounted on a 12”x12” MDF board, 4 bolts to hang it, 1/4” basswood, and chipboard
U.1
Unit Wall:
each individual “unit” had to interlock and make a larger, more complex, “screen”
Study Medium:
chipboard and foamcore
Final Medium:
7-ply Birch plywood, 1/4” steel plates, and counter sinking bolts
U.1
Plane Block:
contained inside 12x12 cube 2D planes must be used to define 3D space
Process:
small sketch models to learn qualities of thicker paper find out what an interesting interior 3D space of 2D planes would look like Rhino 5.0 Model
Final Medium:
B.1
cream 2-ply museum board (notched and slotted into one another to minimize glue, create crisp intersections of planes and keep its rigidity)
Left: Study models that were iterated into a rhino model
Above: Final model with different views

B.1
Freehand light and shadow studies in graphite of the Plane Block
Unfolded elevations in gouache, a study in depth through tones in grey, surrounded by 3 elevations from sketch models
B.1
Line Block:
contain inside 18 cube create a 3D space with visual movement and only volumes
Process:
4 sketch models full size foam models full scale pine wood model
B.2
Final Medium: Bass wood

B.2
Left: Unfolded elevation, drafted, gouache Right: Abstraction of balance block in gouache
B.2 3
Armature:
contain inside 18 cube apply all 3 forms of space (line, plane, volume) nest plaster piece inside
Process:
draw elevation of Balance block extrude and abstract elevation small foam models Rhino 5.0 models
Final:
Basswood Plaster
