Research for Glass

Colour is key in the imagery to be created for Glass the movie. The three main characters have specific colours that relate to what they wear and their superhero/super villain personas.

With this in mind, using purple, yellow and green is a must when I create the art work for this project.

The building is a huge part of the plot of the film and for me is a key item to use in the artwork. Combining this with the colours could be extremely effective.

Reading the synopsis on the website the key words that stand out are:

The poster art therefore must encompass these things while also hitting the brief and the extra insight section that the movie company has supplied.

By using the colours, the building, the dark atmosphere of the movie, the research and these words I think I can create something that will fit nicely into these characteristics.

The official movie artwork has high contrast, dark feeling, glass shattering, highlighted colours, characters and tag lines which I could include.

The above are all stills taken from the trailers that are available on the website.

The main features are again the colours, the facility in which all the characters are being held, smashed glass and alter egos – the super heroes and the super villains.

In each still, depending on the character, the glass takes on a colour hue dependant on their costume.

John Romita Jr is an extremely famous comic book artist, and as Glass is a live action comic book story I felt it was necessary to research comic book story boards, designs and graphics to get an insight into what I could potentially create as movie art for the brief.

Brian Bolland is another graphic artist – I love the pencil drawn and pen work of his character work. Managing to capture their essence and bring stories to life. Perhaps hand drawn illustrations for this brief might work?

Although they would then have to be digitised in order to fit submission requirements.

Sean Murphey and Matt

Hollingsworth have created these fantastic graphic novels based on the batman multiverse, colour is extremely important it seems, which echoes the superhero/villain theme of the movie Glass. Extremely interesting. Hand drawn and digitally rendered these images are exactly what I would love to recreate!
