USING THE SEASONAL STORY SELECTED BY NIKE BASEKTBALL, OVERHAUL EXISTING ASSESTS TO PERSONALIZE IT TO KEVIN DURANT THROUGH GRAPHIC STORY TELLING ELEMENTS.

IN THE SUMMER OF 2014 I WAS HAND PICKED FROM THOUSANDS OF APPLICANTS, AND WA S S E L E C T E D T O I N T E R N AT N I K E W H Q I N P O R T L A N D , O R F O R T H E S U M M E R . W H I L E I WA S TECHNICALLY A HEADWEAR DESIGN INTERN, I SHOWED A PASSION FOR FOOTWEAR AS WELL, A N D WA S A L L O W E D T O W O R K C O N C U R R E N T LY I N 2 C AT E G O R I E S S P L I T T I N G M Y T I M E 6 0 / 4 0 B E T W E E N H E A D W E A R A N D F O O T W E A R . I C A M E I N T O T H I S P R O J E C T F O R K E V I N D U R A N T, E X T R E M E LY L AT E I N T H E P R O C E S S A N D OV E R H A U L E D A L L O F T H E E X I S T I N G G R A P H I C S . T H E THEME AND COLORS WOULD STAY THE SAME, BUT THEY NEEDED TO PERSONALIZE IT, AND ADD THE ESSENTIAL STORY TELLING ELEMENTS. I CREATED AN ENGINEERED GRAPHIC FOR FOXING PIECE TO REPLICATE THE CONDENSATION THAT APPEARS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GLASS. I ALSO CREATED SOME LETTEING FOR THE INSOLES OF THE SHOES THAT MIMICKED THE LOOK AND FEEL OF VINTAGE SIGNAGE AND PACKAGING THE INSOLE OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT SHOWE ARE DIFFERNENT, HIGHLIGHTING DIFFERENT DETAILS ABOUT THE EGG NOG STORY. THIS SHOE RELEASED ALL OVER THE WORLD ON DECEMBER 26, 2014.

USING A SECONDARY LOGOMARK FOR AN ALTERNATE UNIFORM SET CREATED BY BRANDIOSE, FIND A WAY TO INCORPORATE THE NAME OF THE TEAM INTO THE MARK FOR EMBROIDERY.
WHAT Y OU NEED TO KNOW
IN THE SUMMER OF 2013, I HAD TO OPPORTUNITY TO INTERN AT THE SPORTS BRANDING FIRM, BRANDIOSE. BRANDIOSE IS ONE OF THE TOP SPORTS BRANDING FIRMS IN THE WORLD. THEY SPECIALIZE IN THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX AND GOING WHERE NO ONE ELSE DARES TO GO. AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THAT, THEIR WORK IS CONSTANTLY BREAKING APPAREL SALES R E C O R D S I N B O T H M I N O R A N D M A J O R L E A G U E B A S E B A L L . A P P R O X I M AT E LY O N E - T H I R D O F THE 160 MINOR-LEAGUE AFFILIATES HAVE ENGAGED BRANDIOSE. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST THEM IN THE CREATION OF A SECONDARY LOGOMARK FOR THE LEHIGH VALLEY IRON PIGS. MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL IS ALL ABOUT FUN, AND BRANDIOSE CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO CREATE AN ALTERNATE UNIFORM FOR THE TEAM THAT WAS COMPLETELY BACON RELATED. AFTER BRANDIOSE FINISHED THE BACON LOGO, I WORKED WITH THE LOGO TO INCORPORATE T H E N A M E O F T H E T E A M , “ I R O N P I G S ” I N T O T H E L O G O , W H I C H W O U L D B E A H I D D E N D E TA I L ONLY SEEN ON HEADWEAR BECAUSE OF HOW IT WAS EMBROIDERED. IT’S THE LITTLE DETAILS THAT THE TEAM REALLY LOVED. CREATE A A LOGOTYPE FOR THE ALBUM COVER THAT WAS BASED ON LETTERING FROM NEON LIGHTS, HAIRBAND LOGOS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE “80’S.”
WHAT Y OU NEED TO KNOW
NEON TREES IS AN AMERICAN ROCK BAND FROM PROVO, UTAH WHO ARE CURRENTLY SIGNED TO ISLAND/MERCURY RECORDS. KNOWN FOR THEIR ENERGETIC LIVE PERFORMANCES, THE BAND RECEIVED NATIONWIDE EXPOSURE IN LATE 2008 WHEN THEY OPENED SEVERAL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES FOR THE BAND THE KILLERS. POP PSYCHOLOGY IS THEIR 3RD STUDIO ALBUM. THE FIRST SINGLE OFF OF THE ALBUM, “SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND” WAS CERTIFIED GOLD BY RIAA WITH OVER 500,000 DIGITAL SALES. FOLLOWING AN INTERNSHIP AT ISLAND DEF JAM RECORDS, WHERE I DID SOME LETTERING FOR THE FIRST SINGLE OFF OF THE ALBUM, TODD RUSSELL, A SR. ART DIRECTOR AT THE LABEL APROACHED ME TO DESIGN THE LETTERING FOR THE ALBUM COVER. THE PROJECT ORIGINALLY JUST CALLED FOR THE COVER, HOWEVER AFTER THE BAND SAW THE COVER THEY DECIDED THAT THEY WANTED THE TRACK LIST TO BE TREATED THE SAME WAY, AND I WAS BROUGHT BACK IN, TO DESIGN THE TRACKLISTING AS WELL.

ALTHOUGH THAT DREAM NEVER CAME TRUE, BEING ABLE TO DESIGN SOMETHING THAT PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYERS WEAR DAY IN AND DAY OUT IS A LEGACY THAT WILL LAST EVEN LONGER. THE TEAMS I DESIGNED NUMBERS FOR ARE: ARKANSAS TRAVELERS, CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS, INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS, VANCOUVER CANADIANS, AND VERMONT LAKE MONSTERS.

WORKING ON LOGOS AND MAGAZINES IS COOL, BUT SEEING SOMEONE WEARING OR USING S O M E T H I N G Y O U D E S I G N E D I S E V E N C O O L E R . I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE DESIGNED HEADWEAR FOR NIKE, HAT CLUB, REACH R E C O R D S , A N D A N M I L B T E A M T O N A M E A F E W. T H R O U G H O U T T H E PA S T Y E A R I H AV E B E E N INVOLVED IN MANY HEADWEAR DESIGN PROJECTS. FOR THESE PROJECTS I AM RESPONSIBLE F O R N O T O N LY D E S I G N I N G A G R A P H I C F O R T H E H AT, B U T A L S O S E L E C T I N G M AT E R I A L S , CONSTRUCTION, AND APPLICATION OF THE GRAPHIC. AFTER THE INITIAL DESIGN IS SEND OUT, WE WOULD WORK WITH MERCHANDISERS AND DEVELOPERS TO MAKE SURE THE FACTORY IS PRODUCING THE HAT THE WAY WE INTENDED TO PRODUCE IT. INSTEAD OF SHOOTING PRODUCT SHOTS, I SHOT A LOOK BOOK STYLE EDITORIAL, SHOWING OFF THE HEADWEAR IN A SIMILAR WAY TO WHAT THE CONSUMER IS USED TO SEEING. WHEN I DECIDED I WANTED TO SHOW THE HATS OFF IN AN EDITORIAL FORM, I FLEW TO CHICAGO, IL FOR A WEEKEND AND WE SHOT IT IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO, IN THE BLISTERING COLD.
