UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES Everyone who has a special event wants for those memories to last an entire life, so choosing a good photographer is one of the most important bearings because capturing every experience during our event is in their hands.

N N

owadays there are thousands of photographers to choose and it’s important to know what we want and not what others tell us as many times there are often disappointments. So the first thing you have to decide is:

WHAT IS MY ST YLE? There is a popular saying that says: “the beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, that’s why at the time of choosing the photographer you have to keep in mind what style you want. If the classic poses, expressionless poses (where the person doesn’t know someone is taking the photo) or modern poses (funny or less common poses). WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO REMEMBER? A lot of photographers count with packages, so it is necessary to know what do you want in your photo album. If you only need photos of your ceremony or maybe pre-ceremony sessions. HOW MANY DO I NEED? These days photographers offer packages including physical or digital photos, as well as the amount of photos they will hand to you. A lot of them usually

give you 100 photos, but thy can go up to 2,000. It all depends on the photographer. GET TO KNOW THE PHOTOGRAPHER You should know what the photographer is going to turn in after your party is over, as there are some that will only give you a cd which you won’t be able to show your loved ones. Others don’t have the experience of correcting, changing color, cropping and they might hand you photos you’ll never want to show. KNOW YOUR BUDGET It’s worth knowing your budget when hiring a photographer, because your event’s photography takes approximately 12% of it. So before deciding know the cost of the photographer you are hiring. RESEARCH It’s important to know who you are hiring, check their portfolios, ask friends or family, ask for their experience and ask about due dates for your photos. CONFIRM YOUR DATE Don’t forget to confirm with your photographer date and time of your event. We recommend to talk 3 or 6 months before the event and confirm again 1 or 2 weeks before to make sure they are committed.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR DREAM

Wedding

G G

etting married not only is a great step for the ones in love, but a day in which everything is expected to come out perfect. If you decided to share the rest of your life with your partner, you should know that from now on both have to make important decisions. Therefore before sending messages or telling your family and friends consider these aspects.

02

1 2 3

Planning Talk to your partner about this special day, decide on a date (if necessary two, in case the day you picked is not available), how big do you want the celebration to be, the style and formality of the party. Detail ideas and both decide the one that you like the most. Guests This is usually the hardest but it’s something that should take great consideration because from that point on, is a way to know which way to take our celebration. Keep in mind that when inviting someone, they might bring companion. The more people are invited, the more you will need to increase your budget. Start by making a list of the ones that must attend your wedding. Budget Having a budget will save you from having mishaps. When making your budget ask yourself the following: What are the essentials? How much I currently have? What is the most important thing in the wedding? What can i not miss in my wedding?

4 5

Venue By this point is important to know what we want and what do we imagine for our wedding. Normally in any city there are tradicional venues where weddings are hosted and occasionally they offer packages that will bring relief when organizing. Visit the venues that you have in mind and find out about the costs, events that they will host and if there are additional fees in what they are offering. Reservations Its necessary to make reservations in advance so you don’t take surprises the day of your wedding. For example the place where the ceremony is taking place at, the reception, music, banquet, decorations, photography and video, the wedding cake, etc. Check that the services you will need are booked in the right time and date.

6 HOT WEDDING

CAKE

JUST ABOUT ANYTHING CAN INSPIRE YOUR WEDDING CAKE DESIGN... THE BEAUTIFUL ORNATE MOLDING IN YOUR BALLROOM VENUE, YOUR JOINT LOVE OF MODERN DESIGN, OR EVEN THE PATTERN FROM THE CHINA YOU JUST REGISTERED FOR. HERE, A FEW TRENDS TO HELP INSPIRE YOUR CUSTOM CAKE. (YOUR BAKER CAN HELP WITH THE REST.)

METALLIC CAKES

WOODLAND WEDDING CAKES

Metallics are big for stationery, and for wedding cakes as well. “We’re not talking about a gold and silver vintage style, but more a stylized glam, art-deco, old-Hollywood look,” says Betsy Thorleifson of Nine Cakes in New York City. The best part about metallics? They can adapt to any style; delicate embroidery in gold feels opulent while geometric shapes give off a fresh, modern feel. If an entire tier is too much glitz for you, consider adding a little sparkle all over. Fine edible glitter (think: pixie dust) can add a decorative sheen to your cake without overpowering the whole design.

Earthy, whimsical wedding themes are hot this year, so it’s no wonder this same aesthetic is big for wedding cakes too. “Millennials are much more into having the taste of the cake be as good, if not better, as the look of the cake,” says Amy Noelle of Sugar Flower Cake Shop in New York City. To get the look, choose an edible white or ivory color and accent it with fresh or lifelike sugar flowers and leaves. The display can really help you carry out the look here too. One pretty idea is to order a simple white cake and place it on top of a wooden tree ring decorated with moss and leaves.

WHITE-ON-WHITE WEDDING CAKES A white wedding cake is always in good taste. The fresh new way to do a white wedding cake is to add interesting all-white embellishments. Dress up tiers with details, like piped embroidery or jeweled embellishments (we love petals or even pearls). “Nontraditional shaped tiers, like hexagons and ovals, make the cake a little more out of the ordinary,” says Jen Roberts of Sweet Element Cakes in East Orange, New Jersey. Cascades of sugar flowers are great for adding dimension too.

NAKED CAKES Yep, you read that right. With the deconstructed cake, you get to show off the inside. For a summertime wedding, berries work well; in winter and fall, ask your baker to fill the layers with seasonal fruits, like apples, pears, persimmons or even blood oranges. “The exposed cake and filling of the naked cake appeal to both the eyes and the stomach,” says John Rusk of Alice’s Tea Cup in New York City.

RUFFLED CAKES For a seriously elegant look, skip the bold patterns and add-ons in favor of subtle embellishments with allover sugar ruffles. The look is light and airy and needs very little added detail. Finish it off with fresh flowers in between each tier or a few sugar flowers on top. “Frills are at home in every type of reception, from avantgarde to country chic,” says Maggie Austin of Maggie Austin Cake in Alexandria, Virginia.

PAINTED WEDDING CAKES Take a cue from what many invitation designers are doing and ask your cake baker to get a little artsy with your cake design. We’re talking marbleized cakes, stained-glass painted cakes and even Monet-inspired wedding cake designs. Pair those hand-painted tiers with solid-colored layers or even simple flower accents. Quick tip: For a cake design that’s so intricate, keep the tiers simple and stick to all one shape (either all classic round tiers or all square).

The chemistry of PASTRIES Let us introduce you to the life of one of the most creative pastry chef in the city: Julieta Adauto Orange Peel’s owner. He background may be a little unexpected (she has a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry) but its the same background that led her to success.

A A

fter finishing her degree, she worked in her field as a microbiologist but did not find the kind of life satisfaction she had anticipated so Julieta craved to find a calling that excited her. After visiting her brother who happened to be working as a chef in San Francisco and with the support of her family, she moved from her home town of El Paso, Texas to San Francisco where she enrolled at the California Culinary Academy (now Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts) to become a Pastry Chef. Julieta found her first professional job at the prestigious

16

Omni Tucson National Resort, working as a pastry chef assistant. She also took a waitressing job at a local Italian kitchen, where they offered her own creations for the restaurant’s special celebrations. After cutting her teeth in Tucson and for nearly ten years, Julieta earned experience at local fine dining restaurants and clubs where she was continuously recognized for her outstanding and creative creations. In 2006, she won the title of Pastry Chef of the Year by the Central Region of the American Culinary Federation. As of now, Julieta finds herself back in El Paso earning herself as a top name in pastry creation. In 2011 Julieta took on the brave challenge of opening up her own bakery and titled it Orange Peel

Pastries, naming it after one of her favorite ingredients. At her shop she is devoted to place quality before quantity, and where each cake and pastry she makes is not only a work of art, but tastes as good as it looks. She is one of the few bakeries in the region that specializes in French pastries and desserts. She has also carved out a name for herself to be one of the only pastry chefs in the area to offer a wide array of vegan, sugar-free, and gluten-free options.

“Our goal is to provide El Pasoans with great tasting, elegant and professional desserts.”

Julieta has also committed herself to providing her services to local charity functions, all in the name of giving back to her community. She has also been invited to showcase her talents on a larger scale at the annual Taste of El Paso and For the Love of Chocolate events, respectively.

ow that you are celebrating, take advantage of the technology and don’t let your party be traditional-boring. Check this tips out and make the best of your special day:

DON’T: SEND INVITATIONS OVER E-MAIL

We know it saves us money and time, but your guests still feel special when receiving your printed invitation, its a tradition that you should uphold. You can still make an event over Facebook just to have them in suspense and to have an idea of how many guests you are expecting.

DO: LIVESTREAMING YOUR QUINCEAÑERA

Either on Facebook live, Periscope, Skype or even snapchat you can include your loved ones who couldn’t attend your party. Plus, you will feel like a celebrity: ask a close friend or a family member to follow you at every moment, so they don’t miss anything.

DON’T: TEXT DURING YOUR QUINCEAÑERA

We know how hard it is to put your phone down, but it’s important that you enjoy the party, as keeping an eye on your phone will distract you from giving attention to your invitees. So just for once let your mom save your phone for the night.

DO: DOWNLOAD PLANNING APPS

Don’t fall behind on timing, plan with the help of apps that are specially designed so you don’t miss a detail.

DO: HASHTAG Ask your guests to use a special hashtag in their posts, tweets, and photos before and during your event. This will make it easier the next day to check them out without asking every single person for their pictures.

The Sweetest

Honeymoon W W

e know your wedding is the most expected day since the engagement, but don’t forget to spread some more sweetness in your honeymoon, these tips will make it unforgettable. Most of the time the future matrimony takes all of their time in organization and thinking about the ceremony or reception the day of their wedding but they rarely start planning from the honey moon which is very important in this new phase. The first thing to have in mind is to decide where do you want to spend the next days after the wedding ceremony so if you have decided on a place remember that it’s

22

important to have your suitcase ready. If you haven’t chosen the place for your honeymoon we recommend yo visit a travel agency and research their packages for that special trip. Within your trip have your documents in order and be informed which documents you will need to make the journey. Nowadays is very common to see people all day on their phone, so just forget about it for a while as you wouldn’t like to have your first discussion for paying more attention to your phone than your wife. There’s nothing better than to plan the trip together, research about the place you are going to visit, make a list of what you want to do together and plan what to do so

you don’t take the surprise that your partner doesn’t like some kind of activity. If you are planning your honeymoon think about everything you are planning on doing, don’t take it lightly. Its not wise to spend all your time visiting places. Remember that the best thing you can do is to take time to talk to your partner, relax and take a break from all the wedding hassle. Remember to take a “romantic kit” for that special night. Oils, candles, romantic music, sexy lingerie are some of the things that cannot be missed during those days. Also, a first aid kit is never too much, since during the trip there might be unexpected incidents so it’s better to be prepared, either with some analgesics or other medicines you deem necessary.
