FRINGE ZINE: Online edition

Goodbye For Now Rose Hotel’s Saturday gig marks songwriter’s last show as resident in BG Story by Sam Osborne Fringe Zine

Bowling Green songwriter Jordan Reynolds moved back to Bowling Green almost five years ago. Rose Hotel, her solo project prepping a debut EP release in August will perform at 6:50 p.m. Saturday at Tidball’s. It will “Honestly (the title of upcoming single) be the 24-year-old’s final show in Bowling Green as a resident as she is drifting south to Atlanta, Georgia in May. Reynolds, however, won’t soon be forgetting the creative culture that she contributed to and benefitted from. Reynolds will stop in BG periodically for stops on tour and certainly by the gravitational pull of the friends she’s impacted during her time here. The show Saturday evening at that venue on Morris Ally, inside on the stage she came of age on, will mark the end of an era for one of the integral parts of the DIY BG scene. “It’s been really inspiring to be around a lot of people that don’t have a lot of, like, resources at their fingertips that are handed to them, whether it be money or fancy recording studios, or all those thing you can kind’ve have in a bigger city,” Reynolds said. “Everyone’s having to make it work here and that’s been really inspiring to me, just to appreciate the culture that i’m in. But it also has taught me how to grind it the fuck out.” The songbird swore she’d been in a metropolitan area by the time she was 22. “It’s so hard because it isn’t a city that fosters that, it’s almost creation in spite of the fact. I mean, we still leave in a Republican majority where we don’t have a fairness ordinance.”

The relentless worker has a batch of material ready that will comprise her debut record, one she hopes to start and complete this year. Reynolds will perform a song with members of local band The Orange Rinds during the performance. The Rose Hotel File Active since: 2015 Fun fact: Though August’s EP will serve as Reynolds’ first official EP, she released a promising four-song release titled “flowers by my window” last spring. The 4 song lofi release resonates, but is one that Reynolds considers an exercise of sorts of honing her craft. EP’s first single “Honestly” will be released in June.
