In the plethora of Bengali festivities, a Durgapuja ushers in euphoria and cheer, while Poila Boisakh celebrations ignite the creative spirit of starting something new. Celebrating this spirit, we present 'Porobas.MUC'- our frontal publication on Bengali culture deeply embedded in the Bengali diaspora, coinciding with our Boisakhi Mela 1423. While embarking on this journey, we gratefully acknowledge support from our patrons who have inspired us through their valuable words of encouragement, our sponsors, who have reposed faith in our initiative and, the contributors, without whose rich contents this magazine would not have taken shape. From Feluda at 50 to Holmes in Reichenbach, from lively paintings by the kids to the foodie Bengali’s culinary transformation, we attempt to suit every taste. We also fondly remember our Alumni whose nostalgic remembrance makes us a proud extended family.

Our Chief Patrons Every organisation is in need of inspiration and support specially in its years of inception and growth - to shape a journey towards the future. We at Sampriti are honoured to have always found such inspiration and support from our Chief Patrons Dr. (Mrs) Anita Pfaff and Dr. Martin Pfaff in endeavours to meet the organisational objectives. Dr. Martin Pfaff (born 31 March 1939) lives in Stadtbergen near Augsburg, is an economist and academician who taught in various universities of the United States and and also held a chair at the University of Augsburg over his illustrious career of over four decades. He was also a member of the Bundestag from 1990 to 2002 for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Dr. Anita Pfaff (born 29th November 1942) first visited India at the age of 19, and innumerable times thereafter in quest of the legacy of her father, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. She is an accomplished economist and a retired professor in the University of Augsburg. She has also been a deputy mayor of Stadtbergen, where she presently lives and is associated with several socio-economic causes. They have been engaged with Sampriti since its inception in 2014 and have inspired the organisation's activities by their encouragement, support and presence in almost all the occasions. On the personal front, both of them celebrated Golden Jubilee Anniversary of their marriage in 2015, and have shared with us moments that commemorate such a remarkable milestone. Sampriti is priviledged to share this momentous occasion with our readers and we collectively convey them our greeting and best wishes for many more such years of togetherness.

Professor of Economics University of Augsburg University of Augsburg and Augsburg former Member of Parliament Augsburg All our good wishes to Sampriti München on the occasion of the celebration of the Bengali New Year! It is highly commendable that Sampriti is keeping up traditions like the celebration of the Bengali New Year. For NRI’s and NRB’s (non-resident Bengalis) it is important to maintain the bridge between their new and their old home. The firm roots in their rich Bengali culture and tradition makes them both ambassadors of their original motherland as well as valuable contributors to a multi-faceted German society. But the German wellwishers and friends as well, many of whom are fascinated by India’s – particularly Bengal’s – great cultural heritage, will enjoy and benefit from this experience. India and Germany can look back on a century-long mutual interest in their respective cultures. For many decades students, teacher, business people and interested tourists have enjoyed the enriching exchanges between both regions. A special word of thanks to the organizers and active participants of this event! We hope and trust that they will continue with similar activities, also in the future. Es ist äußerst anerkennenswert, dass Sampriti die Tradition wie die bengalische Neujahrsfeier aufrechterhält. Für Auslandsinder und Auslandsbengalen ist es von großer Bedeutung die Brücke zwischen alter und neuer Heimat zu pflegen. Die starke Verwurzelung in der reichen bengalischen Kultur und Tradition macht sie zu Botschaftern ihres ursprünglichen Heimatlandes. Zugleich leisten sie einen wichtigen Beitrag für ihre facettenreiche neue Heimat. Aber auch ihre deutschen Freunde, unter denen viele Bewunderer des indischen – und speziell auch des bengalischen – kulturellen Erbes sind, genießen und gewinnen durch diese Erfahrung. Indien und Deutschland können auf ein Jahrhunderte dauerndes gegenseitiges Interesse an der Kultur des jeweils anderen Landes zurückblicken. Für Jahrzehnte haben Studenten, Lehrer, Geschäftsleute und kulturbefließene Touristen den gewinnbringenden Austausch zwischen den Regionen gepflegt. বছর পােচক আেগর কথা । স া- কৗ ভ উেড় গল এক ম লবার । আট বছেরর কমে , গেবষণা আর সাজােনা সংসার েয় এক বছেরর মেয়েক িনেয় পািড় িদেয়িছল মা কন মুলুেক । তার পেরর রিববার চেল যায় েজশ-িনিধ । তার পেরর মােস কৗিশক-অনািমকা । এমন ভােব সসমেয় লেগ িছল যন চনা পিরিচতেদর চেল যাওয়ার িমিছল । তখন দেখিছলাম, এ ধ ভারতীয় িকংবা বা ালীর িবদায় নয়, সামি কভােব িবদায় িনে জামািনেত কম িকংবা
গেবষণারত ব িবেদশী । পিরসংখ ান বলল উ িশ া, কমসং ান, গেবষণা ইত ািদর িবপুল সুেযাগ সুিবেধ থাকা সে ও - ায়ী বাস ান িহেসেব িবেদশীেদর কােছ জামািনর আকষণীয়তা মশই ি য়মান । তাই হারােত হে তর ণ জ েক । ২০০৮ সাল থেক েবশ ােনর সমীকরণ ধীের ধীের ির করেছ এ দশেক । দশেকর র েত যখােন আট ল ািধক অিভবাসী আসেতন, স সময় তা কমেত কমেত সাতলে র আেস পােশ । আরও বশী ভাববার িবষয় এই, সমসংখ ক িকংবা আরও বশী ছেড় চেল যাে স া- কৗ েভর মত । জামািনেক হার মািনেয় মা কনমুলুক ও কানাডা ায়ী বসবােসর ক হে মধাজগেতর । ভারতীয়রা যখােন অ গণ । তাই তারপেরর বছর িলেতও এক এক কের চেল যেত দেখিছ রা ল- দবা না, শ মলা-অতল আর ভাশীষেক । মধা আক কেরও তােক আরও পি েমর কােছ হারােনা - এেত সুদূর সারী িত কার ? সকথায় পেড় আসিছ ।

ারক তথ হল - থম, ১৯৭২ এর পর জ াহার কখনই মৃত হারেক টপকােত পােরিন ; ি তীয় 8

সমস া হে , মােকেলর এই েঘািষত - আপাত মানিবক, আসেল সামািজক - শরণাথীনীিত র পায়ান িন ক নয় । তরে র সে ইউেরাপীয় ইউিনয়েনর য শরণাথী চি হেয়েছ, স পেথ কান মধা ইউেরােপর ছাড়প পােব আর ক রেয় যােব তার িনয় ণ তরে র হােত । ভমধ সাগরপেথ জনাকীণ নৗকায় মিরয়া মানবপাচার এখেনা অিনয়ি ত । পািরেসর ঘটনা মাণ কেরেছ শরণাথীর িভড় এখন স াসবাদীেদর ঢাল ।
অথচ ২০১০ সােলই জামান অথম ী সহজ িকছ াব রেখিছেলন । চেয়িছেলন জামািন তার বিনয়ািদ িচ াধারা থেক সের এেস খালা মেন হণ কর ক দ িবেদশী িচিকৎসক, কািরগর, লখক, িশ ীেক ইত ািদেক । ায়ী বসবােসর িনয়ম িশিথল কের জামািন আগামী চি শ বছেরর সমস ার সমাধান কর ক । সসমেয় িক সমােলাচনার ঝড় সামলােত য়ং মােকলেকই িনজ ম ীর সই ব ব খ ন করেত হেয়িছল । এখােনই স া- কৗ েভর এত বছর পের চেল যাওয়া এক দৃ া মূলক িনদশন হেত পাের । জামািনর ভিবষ ৎ অ গিতর অ রায় - মধাজগতেক আক রাখেত না পারা, িনজ ভাষা ও সং িতর বাইের বহ র জগেতর মূল ায়ন না করা । এবং র ণশীলতায় আব থাকেত থাকেত সমাজিব ােনর পাঠপঠেন মাগত িপিছেয় পড়া । িব ায়েনর যেগও অন ান দেশর মত দুয়ার অবািরত কের কত মধা ও দ তােক অভ থনায় ত হাক জামািন । ধ িবেদশীই মুখ িফিরেয় িনে তা নয়, িতবছর দড় ল জামান পািড় িদে মা কনমুলুক িকংবা সীমা পিরেয় সুইজারল াে । ায়ীভােব । িবেদশনীিত, রাজনীিত, অথনীিত নািক জামান সমােজর সামি ক আ মূল ায়ন, কাথায় আেছ আগামী দশক িলেত আসা চরম স েটর সমাধান ? নািক আই টাইন, েয়ডেক বিহ ার কের য ঐিতহািসক ভল হেয়িছল, সই ইিতহাস থেকই িশ া নেব জামািন ? সুদূর পনিসলভািনয়ার গেবষণাগার থেক হয়ত দুেজাড়া চাখ সবদা িনব থাকেব আটলা েকর এপাের । স া- কৗ েভর । 9

মণিপপাসু বা ালী ধ ঝেড়র গিতেত ল া মাক দশেনই া নয়, পযটেনর গরাজ সুইজারল াে এেসও বা ালী খঁেজ নয় ছাটেবলার রামা । অনুভব’এর ভাইেয়র কলেম যগা কারী সই গােয় া সািহেত র াণ । ১৮৯৩ সােল স ার আথার কনান ডেয়ল তঁ ার “দ ফাইনাল বেলম” গে র াইম াে তঁ ার অমর সৃ , গােয় া শালক হামসেক ও স বতঃ গােয় া সািহেত র ইিতহােসর থম সুপারিভেলন জমস মিরয়া েক একসােথ মের ফলেত চেয়িছেলন। াপট িছল সুইজারল াে র রাইেখনবাখ জল পাত। নায়ক ও খলনায়েকর এই অি মযে র ধারািববরণী ঐ গে না থাকেলও, গে র শেষ হামেসর ঘিন ব ও সহকারী ডাঃ ওয়াটসন যখন পাহািড় সি ণ রা া পিরেয় জল পােতর পােশর “ লজ”-এ এেস উপি ত হন, তখন সখােন পাঠকবেগর কার র বঝেত সমস া হয়না সখােন িক হেয়েছ।

“দ ফাইনাল বেলম” কাশ হওয়ার ক ৯০ বছর পর ১৯৮৩- ত আমার জ । আমােদর বাড়ীেত দশ’িবেদেশর
িকেশার ও িশ সািহত , কিম , গােয় া গ , ি লার ইত ািদর চল িছল, আেছ খব বশী। বাবা মা দুজেনই খব বই পেড়ন, আর উ রািধকার সূে স নশা আমরা দুই ভাইও পেয়িছ। আর দুই ভাইেয়রই ছাটেবলায় া জিনত সমস া থাকায়, পাচ, ছয় বছর বয়েসই হােত বই উেঠ আেস। এভােবই কেব একিদন আেবাল তােবাল, দু র রামায়ণ, ন ন, ফলুদা ছেড় হােত “দ প ুইন কমি ট শালক হামস” তেল িনেয়িছলাম, আর রফাের িহসােব অ েফাড িডকশানািরটা পােশ রেখ, মােঝ মেধ দুেবাধ িকছ শে র অেথ চাখ বিলেয় িনেয়, িভে ািরয়ান ইংল াে র এই বাদ িতম গােয় া চিরে র িবরাট অনুগামী হেয় িগেয়িছলাম। এই সময়টােতই বইেয়র পাতায় ল ন শহরটা খব টানত, আর টানত সুদূর সুইজারল াে র সই রহস ময় জল পাত, রাইেখনবাখ। কােলর েপ জীবন এেস পেড় ২০১৫ সােল। দাদা কমসুে সপিরবাের িগেয় পেড়েছ িমউিনেখ। দাদা থাকেত থাকেত অেপ াকতভােব অেনকটা স ায় ইউেরাপ দশন করেত ১৬ই জুলাই িগেয় প ছই জামািন। সুইজারল া টাও িদন পােচেকর জন ঘরেত যাব। উঠিছ ই ারলােকন-ওবারহাসিল অ েলর মাইিরে ন বেল ছিবর মত সু র এক ছা জনপেদ। আের নদীর উৎেসর খব কােছ অবি ত এই জনপেদ থাগত শহেরর ভীড়ভা া, হ েগাল কান িকছই নই। িদগ িব ত সবজ, শহেরর পাশ িদেয় বেয় যাওয়া আের নদী, অনিতদূের সুইস আ স এবং জুং াউ-এর হাতছািন ছাড়াও এই শহেরর আেরক াকিতক বিশ আেছ। মাইিরে েনর সীমানার ক বাইের অিব া ভােব ঝের চেলেছ সই রাইেখনবাখ ! জুিরখ হেয় মাইিরে ন প েছ আমার ঘেরর জানলা িদেয় দিখ ছাটেবলায় বইেয় পড়া সই িকংবদ ী জল পাত। জানালার বড় িসলটায় বেস রাইেখনবােখর গজন েন আর ায় ২৫০ িমটার ওপর থেক পড়া ফিনল জলরািশ দূর থেক দেখ অেনকটা সময় কা েয়িছ। যিদন রাইেখনবােখ উঠব, সিদন সকালটা কাটল আের গজ-এ। নীচ িদেয় খরে াতা নদী বেয় যাে , আর আমরা হঁ েট চেলিছ আের নদী সংল পাহাড় কেট বানােনা ায় মাইলখােনক রা া, টােনেলর মেধ িদেয়। সও এক দার ণ অিভ তা। ১৮৯৯ সােল চালু হওয়া িফউিনিকউলার রলওেয় এখেনা রাজ পযটকেদর যাতায়াত করায় সমতল থেক হাইিকং বেসর মেধ । নেমই থেম যটা চােখ পেড়, সটা হল শালক হামসেক া জানােনা এক ফলক। িকছ ছিব, িকছ ারক িদেয় একটা ছা ঘের িমউিজয়াম বািনেয় রাখা, তেব গােয় া বরেক িনেয় বানােনা আসল যাদুঘর নীেচ, মাইিরে েন। 11

“ র তিম িছেল তাই আমরা আিছ!”। সাধারণ পাঠক িহসােব এটা িছল আমােদর কােছও ক ওরম একটা মুহত। হামস িছল বেলই গােয় া গ পড়া, তাই রাইেখনবাখ হয়ত আমােদর আপাত নাি কতােক ভেঙ চরমার কের দওয়া এক তীথ ান। আমার তা বেটই।
এরপর র কির হঁ াটা। ইল ধের ওয়াটারফলেসর ওপের য ি জটা আেছ, সটা পিরেয় গে র সই টটায় যাওয়া উে শ , যখােন িকংবদ ী অি ময হেয়িছল বেল লখা আেছ। িফউিনিকউলার য জায়গাটায় নামায়, সখান থেক এই িবখ াত “ লজ”টায় যাওয়া অেনকটা ঘিরেয় নাক ধরার মত ব াপার। বশ িকছিদন হল শরীরটা ভারী হেয়েছ, মশ উচ হেত থাকা পেথ সিড় ভেঙ ক করা য অস ব পছ কির, তা বলেত পািরনা। িক বা ব আর র পকথার মােঝ য জায়গাটা আেছ, সখান থেকই কউ যন আমায় বারবার বলিছল হামস, ওয়াটসন, মিরয়া , এরা সবাই এ রা া িদেয় গেছ, এই ইেলর িত পদে েপ আেছ সািহেত র ইিতহাস। এত আেবগ বণ হওয়া আমার চির গত নয়, িক সিদনটা বাধহয় সিত ব িত ম িছল। সর পাহািড় পথ, থেক থেক িকছটা িব ীণ হেয় িগেয় টির েক একট িব াম নওয়ার ও নীেচর হ াশ উপত কা দখার সুেযাগ কের দয়। িকছটা হঁ েট, িকছটা িজিরেয় রাইেখনবােখর ক উৎসটায় এেস পিড়। এখােন একটা ি জ আেছ, যটার ওপের দঁ াড়ােল ক নীেচ জল পাতটার মরণ ঝঁাপ দখা যায়। বারিনজ ওবারল া তথা সম সুইস আ স-এর অন তম উচ ক াটার াে র ওপের দঁ ািড়েয় এ দৃশ দখা এক িবরল অিভ তা। ি জ পিরেয় ওপাের িগেয় রা া আরও সংকীণ, এবং গাছগাছািল আরও সবজ ও ঘন হেত থােক। তেব এখান থেক আমােদর গ ব ল প ছােনার পথ ায় পুেরাটাই উতরাই, চড়াই নয়। তাই ায় ৭-৮ িমিনেটর মেধ ই সই িবখ াত “ লজ”-এ িগেয় প ছই। ক এখােন একটা ফলক আেছ, যােত ৩ রকম ভাষার মেধ ইংরািজেত লখা আেছ, “AT THIS FEARFUL PLACE, SHERLOCK HOLMES VANQUISHED PROFESSOR MORIARTY, ON 4 MAY 1891” আেগ পেড়িছলাম, য গে ক য জায়গাটায় দুজেনর হাতাহািত হয়, সটা জল পােতর আরও কােছ িছল। সমেয়র সােথ সােথ পথ েয় িগেয় আসল অব ােনর সােথ ায় ১০০ িমটােরর তফাত গেড় িদেয়েছ। এখন যখােন “ লজ” শষ হয়, সখােন দঁ ািড়েয়ই তাই আমার াঘ মেন মেন দান কির। এবং িমিনট দেশক সখােন দঁ ািড়েয়, জায়গা র মাহা অনুভব কের, অবেশেষ হঁ াটা লাগাই ফরবার পথািভমুেখ। পাহািড় রা া আর িফউিনিকউলার ধের নেম এেসিছলাম রাইেখনবাখ আর ক নাজগত থেক। “ লজ” েত রেখ এেসিছলাম আমার হািরেয় যাওয়া ছাটেবলােক । 12
How Gogol got his Bavarian sweet tooth Indranil Basu Gogol was going through a dilemma of parting and acceptance. Leaving his home Kolkata behind and accept a new country as his home. And to top it all he has to leave his favorite sweet dishes behind but at the same time a new sweet tooth experience was awaiting his arrival at Munich, Germany. The land of his childhood fairy tales ‘Hansal and Gretel’ and their famous cottages made of delicious gingerbreads, chocolates and pastries. He was also quite sure that on his return to Kolkata he would surprise his friends and acquaintances with his new love for German desserts. Gogol was brought up on a dosage of ‘rosogolla’ and ‘sandesh’ followed by ‘luchi alurdom’ for Sunday breakfast without a miss for the last 25 years in a North Kolkata lane. So the separation from his staple diet was the first thing that bothered him on his arrival. The situation worsened when his stock of ‘kajubarfi’ and ‘narkelnaru’ started dwindling. With experiment in his mind, Gogol bought some chocolate bars and four boxes of icecreams with different flavors. After dinner he took a scoop from a box and he felt like throwing the box to wastebin. The second box disappointed him as well. He took the final scoop from the third box and realized that ice creams could also have sour taste unlike back home in India. He was left with no more courage to try the last box. After this experimentation he not just had a bitter mouth he was also left with a bitter heart. Next day when we came to know about his pitiful situation, we thought of taking him to Sarcletti. In spite of his huge disagreement as he was not willing to experiment any further, we succeeded. Immediately after entering this 130 year old eisdiele (Icecream Parlour) somehow he got the familiar feel of those Rollick and Kwality parlors from Kolkata. That day he made the safest choice - Pistazieneis, and he realized what he had missed until that day. But Gogol continued to make a couple of disasters in choosing the breads and cheese from bakery. Also he continued to miss his favorite ‘patishapta’ and ‘rosomalai’. At the Summer Fest Gogol made the breakthrough. He was introduced to the concept of crepes (thin pancakes with fillings). He slowly developed a taste for German sweets that are moderately sweetened and also somehow started understanding and appreciating the unique flavors of honey and vanilla in the sweet dishes. A quite normal aspect of human nature where one needs a little patience and time to appreciate something which one is not used to. He started trying out honey crepes, vanilla crème and Apfelschmarrn. Some of those he liked some he didn’t. Even though the sour flavour of apple in Apfelschmarrn bothered him a bit but he started appreciating the mildness of a European dessert. He started enjoying some fine line of similarities between crepes, vanilla crème, grießpudding (semolina pudding) with some of the sweet dishes back home in India. 13
After about a year of his stay at Munich, one weekend we got an invitation at Gogol’s apartment and to our utter surprise, for a German brunch. He hosted the brunch at his south faced balcony which peeps over a green patch. It was a combo package of great view and taste, freshness of the ingredients and above all the desire to bridge the cultural difference over food. We were served fresh bread, butterbrezeln with homemade Obazda (Traditional Bavarian Camembert Spread), kartoffelsalat (cold potato salad), Indo- German omelettes with fair mix of fresh vegetables and some semmelknödel (bread dumplings). Fresh fruits and vegetable sticks made the brunch setup quite colorful. Well, there were cheesecakes for dessert bought from a nearby bakery and enough beer. He explained how easy the recipes were and how he gathered the knowledge slowly and steadily from his German friends and colleagues. That day at the brunch we laughed, talked, compared, disliked and also enjoyed the delicacies. The best part was to see the quick transition of a guy who was completely apprehensive of German cuisine to be completely at ease with his new food. There was all round appreciation for his honest efforts and also strong debates about which cuisine is better (Indian or German). It is actually so difficult for people like us to draw a conclusion who love to enjoy food without any borders or barriers. Which makes us cosmopolitan in true sense of the word.

বাধ বলল িন ই হয়, তামােক গ পেত জানেত হেব | চলেত চলেত একসময় রা ুেরর গ পলাম, স একরকম নয় ! কঁ াচা িমেঠ, হমে র ফসেলর আশা মশােনা, নানান ধরেনর নানান রকেমর গ । সারািদন বঁদ হেয় থাকার মত গ ! তারপর পেত র করলাম আরও কত গ , খিশর, ভালবাসার, ব ে র, সহম মতার ..... নানান ধরেনর নানান রকেমর গ । যখন গ িনেয় মেত থাকেত র কেরিছ হটাৎ কের এক অন গ এেলা ! খর রৗে র গে িমেশ এেলা রে র গ , িশ র কা ার গ এেলা ফল এ ! শরনাথী নারী, িশ মানুেষর হাহাকােরর গে ভের উঠেলা আকাশ বাতাস । এখন সমুে র তীর মৃত র গে ম্ ম্ করেছ, িশ মৃত র গ য িক কর ণ .... হ জীবনান আমােক িচল কের দাও, আিম ডানা খঁেজ পাি না, গ েলা মুছেত পারিছনা ।

ইউেরােপর বস নািক সবেথেক সু র। আর তাই বিঝ িতিন নানা ফেল ভরা ইউেরােপর এই রিঙন বস েক ধের রেখেছন তঁ ার সৃ শাি িনেকতেনর "বস উৎসেবর" মাধ েম। আজ আট বছর হল িনেজর দশ থেক ব দূেরর শহর জামানীর িমউিনেখ বাস। আমার নতন জীবেন পদাপেণর ভ
সূচনা এ শহেরই। আ েসর বেক সাজােনা গাছােনা এই শহর থম দখােতই মেন ধের যায়। তেব িনেজর কােছর মানুষেদর ছেড় এেস এই িবেদশ িবভঁ ই ক আপন কের নওয়া ততটাও সহজ িছল না। এেদেশর সব িনয়মই যন অন রকম। িকছটা ভালেবেস আর িকছটা মািনেয় িনেয় কা েয় িদেয়িছ এত েলা বছর। িক যিদন এখােন থম বসে র ছঁ ায়া পলাম সিদন মন াণ একা হেয় গল আমার ফেল আসা শাি িনেকতেনর সই বসে র সােথ। িক আ য িমল এই সাত সমু তেরা নদীর পােরর নরম সবজ ঘােসর িবছানায় সাজােনা গালাপী, ব নী, হলুদ, সাদা বেণর নাম না জানা অ ি ফেল ভরা বসে র সােথ আমােদর দােলর রঙ মাখােনা শাি িনেকতেনর বসে র। "আমােদর শাি িনেকতন, আমােদর সব হেত আপন"। পড়া নার সুবােদ বশ কেয়কটা বছর কা েয়িছ শাি িনেকতেন। রবী নাথ ঠাকেরর ি য় ঋত এই বস । আ ণ রঙা পলাশ, ক চড়া, রাধাচড়া, হাসনুহানা, ম য়ার ফেল তখন রেঙ উঠত এই লাল মা র দশ। আর তার সােথ তাল িমিলেয় দােলর নানা রেঙ একাকার হেয় যত বস উৎসব। দশ িবেদেশর অগিণত মানুেষর িভেড় মূখর হেয় উঠত এই দাল উৎসব। িশ ায়তেনর ছা ীরা হলুদ সবজ শাড়ীেত মুেড় খাপায় পলাশ জিড়েয় "ওের গৃহবাসী খাল ার খাল, লাগল য দাল" গেয় নেচ অভ থনা জানাত তােদর অিতিথেদর। আেরা কত মধর স ীেত, নৃেত , মানুেষর কলকাকিলেত মােতায়ারা হেয় উঠত রিব ঠাকেরর সােধর গ র া ন,আ ক । চনা পিরিচেতর গি পিরেয় সিদন সবাই সবাইেক রািঙেয় িদেত উ াল। যন সবারই মেনর একই আকিত "রািঙেয় িদেয় যাও যাও, যাও গা এবার যাবার আেগ"। আকাশ বাতাস ভের উেঠেছ লাল, হলুদ, সবজ, গালািপ আভায়। সই আভার শ আজও পাই যখন দিখ আমার চারপাশটা ভের উেঠেছ গালািপ, লাল, গর য়া, সবজ, হলুদ পাপিড়েত। মনটা অজানা ব াথায় ভের ওেঠ, একছেট চেল যায় সুদূর অতীেত যখােন আজও চােখর সামেন ভেস ওেঠ গাধিল আেলায় গ র া ন মে র শ ামা, িচ া দা, মায়ার খলা, তােসর দেশর মত নৃত নাট । সারাবছর য িদনটার আশায় বেস থেকিছ, িনেমেষ তা যন ফিরেয় যায়। িক মেনর কােনা মিণেকাঠায় িচরিদেনর মত বঁাধা পেড় যায় শাি িনেকতেনর বস উৎসব।

Freshers Welcome 'Art' in a new city When I moved to Munich last May (2015), I was very apprehensive, as to how life here would be. My better half had been here, pretty much most of the time since 2012, I had stayed back in Singapore, for my daughters to finish their IB. Both are now in university in U.K. Being a practicing artist, the first thing I did, was to look for a watercolor studio, where I could meet fellow artistes, and go at least once a week, to further my skills. My prayers were answered, and I found one, at Kรถnigsplatz. I was more than lucky. At this studio, besides watercolour sessions, the owner/instructor holds Life drawing, and Portriature sessions every week. It was a dream come true. I go there atleast 2-3 times every week, and have found quite a few like minded artist friends there. Needless to say, my first apprehension was taken care of. I do hope to grow my roots deeper into the art community in Munich. I am exceptionally lucky, that again, without much effort, I have found friends in the Indian, and particularly in the Bengali community, thanks to Sampriti. What more can one ask for? The thing I have not really got used to, is the cold weather..... Will I ever get used to it ? Probably not ... But I guess that's ok, one can't get everything right... Here's looking forward to spending many more "artistic" years here....

ায় দুবছর একনাগােড় বাস কা েয় আজ আিম িমউিনখ ছেড় চেল যাি । সব ভােলালাগা খারাপলাগা ছেড় আজ আিম অেনক দূের চেল যাি । িক যাওয়ার আেগ একটা ীকােরাি পাওনা রেয় গল । িবেয়র পর বেরর হাত ধের আিম থম িবেদেশ পািড় িদই । নতন দশ, নতন শহর, নতন লাকজন, সব িকছই নতন । খব সহেজই ◌ এই শহর এই দশ আমার মন আঁকেড় ধরল । িমউিনেখ এেস আিম শহেরর আনাচকানােচ ঘের এই শহর এই দশেক বারবার জানার চ া কেরিছ । িক েত কবারই ব থ হেয়িছ । কানভােবই পুেরাপুির সফল হেত পািরিন । িক হঠাৎ একিদন । িমউিনেখর ভােরর আকাশ তখন মঘলা, ঝমঝিমেয় ব নামল । কিফর মগটা হােত িনেয় মেন মেন ভাবার চ া করলাম আ া এই ব েত ইংিলশ গােডন কমন দখেত লাগেছ । িভতরটা ছঁ াত কের উঠল । আের ক এরকম ভাল আমার আেগও লেগেছ । ক এরকম আমার আেগর ফেল আসা অেনক েলা িদেনর কথা চােখর সামেন ভেস উঠল । হঠাৎ খব ভালেবেস ফললাম িমউিনখেক । হঠাৎ যন খব কােছ চেল এল িমউিনেখর সবিকছ । তাই যাওয়ার আেগ আমার একটাই ীকােরাি । িমউিনেখর সৗ য অন রকম, পিরেবশ অন রকম, িমউিনেখর লাকজন অন রকম । িক কাথায় খব একটা িমল আেছ আমার সে , যটা আিম কখনই ঝেড় ফলেত পারব না । হয়ত অন কান শহের, অন কান দেশ িগেয় আিম মেন মেন খঁজব আমার ফেল আসা শহর িমউিনখেক । 22

থাকেল আমরা হয়ত এত অ সমেয় এত িকছ হািসল করেত পারতাম না। শবালদা, পুলকদা, ক লদা- দর থেক অেনক ভালবাসা পেয়িছ। রনজয়, অনন র মতন ব পেয়িছ। এক সােথ ঘরেত গিছ, ীল কেরিছ। আবার ই ব ল মাহনবাগান িনেয় ঝগড়া ঝা ও কেরিছ। কেব যন কেয়কটা অেচনা মুখ িমেলিমেশ একটা যৗথ পিরবার
হেয় গেছ বঝেতই পািরিন। সিত কথা বলেত িমউিনেখ না এেল বা স ীিত না হেল কােনা িদনই এই ভােব বা ালী সং িতেক নতন কের খঁেজ পতাম না। জািননা আর কান িদন িমউিনেখ িফরব িকনা। তেব যিদ িফির তা স ীিতর টােনই িফরব। অেনেকই আমায় কের স ীিতর সদস হেল স ীিত আমায় িক দেব । কেয়কজন ব আর িকছ িবিশ ব ি র সাি ছাড়া দওয়ার মতন িকছই নই আমােদর । আমােদর সােথ দুপা হেঠই দখন না একবার। I stayed two years in Munich and Sampriti Munich was my 2nd home. I found lot of fantastic friends here; we had lot of fun and great time together. We sang together, danced together, and laughed together. Mutual respect for each and every one is the unique nature of the group. Everyone listens to others and respects others opinion. NO ONE WAS THE BOSS. The last thing I would like to mention that, I am currently in New York where number of Bengalis are 100 times more than in Munich but I am still missing SAMPRITI.
To us (myself Suparna and my husband Shibabrata), Sampriti Munich was a ray of hope in the lonely life at the suburb of Munich (Garching). We presently live at IIT Kanpur but still miss those days of togetherness at Sampriti. Specially, selling “allu-tikki” for the first time in my life, enjoying dishes made by friends, dancing with them, celebrating during the Diwali party was one of the most memorable days of my life. Moumita Mukherjee Painter
An engineer by profession, she is a PhD in Civil Engineering and has worked in the industry and taught in the US before she shifted to Brussels two years ago. But art is where her heart is. A painter by passion, Moumita gave birth to Mumuscape while trying to escape from the mundaneness of life.
‘Do I have a natural affinity for sorrow ?’ she asks in The Great Unknown, ‘The realms have in store for me traps, not of love, but of despair. Hence I look for joy amidst melancholy.’ Real life however was all real joy, when in 2010 these lines saw daylight in print as Soma’s first translatory work for Manisankar Mukherjee aka Sankar’s famous 'কত অজানাের'. Over the next four years, Soma translated seven more Nabaneeta Dev Sen’s personal favourite, ‘কর ণা তামার কান পথ িদেয়’ as The Holy Trail : A Pilgrim's Plight, Tilottama Majumdar's 'একতারা' as Strains of a Lonesome String and ' হান' as The Denudation, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s ‘মানবজিমন’ as Untilled Earth and ‘কাগেজর বউ’ as The Paper Half and journalist Gautam Bhattacharya’s ‘Pankaj’.
She calls herself a modern existentialist painter - who blends styles, with many shades of emotions and its plethora of colors that she tries to capture through her fauvistic acrylic paintings. She is ardently supported by her husband Prantik and only son Mahis (Piku), who are her best friends and critics. Moumita showcased Mumuscape in Sampriti's Boisakhi Mela 1423 on 24th April 2016.
She has sparked a niche literature market which not only extends these classic Bengali novels to a wider international audience but also to the nexgen Bengali community abroad, who are not avid readers of Bangla literature. Soma lives in London, with husband Subir and two children Sharanya and Shreyan.
