ROUTINE AND HIGH RISK PREGNANCY At Women’s Health Care, expecting mothers are cared for by professionals who understand the excitement and uncertainty of pregnancy and childbirth. Prenatal care always begins with a discussion of the mother’s individual needs for pregnancy and delivery. Our obstetricians and midwives regularly care for expectant women who require a higher level of care to safely give birth, should they be considered “high risk” due to age, diabetes, hypertension or other risk factors. We also offer vaginal birth after Cesarean (VBAC). We offer therapeutic and pregnancy massage in our Haverhill office. INFERTILITY Couples struggling to conceive have many options with modern procedures to treat infertility. Initial infertility assessment and treatment is performed in our office. Our well-established relationships with infertility centers allow us to refer patients for further care.

Gynecologic Oncology – Women being treated for uterine, cervical and other gynecological cancers can consult monthly with a Gynecologic Oncologist from BIMDC at our Women’s Health Care office in Newburyport. Maternal-Fetal Medicine – Specialists from BIDMC hold outpatient clinics at Anna Jaques Hospital several times each month to conduct early risk assessments, targeted ultasounds, and ongoing high-risk management of our obstetrical patients in collaboration with our obstetricians and midwives.

Our nurse practitioners are both certified in women’s health care and serve an integral role in working with patients. They conduct physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests and provide appropriate treatment for their patients. Our nurse practitioners work closely with patients of all ages, including many of our teenage patients.

This partnership reflects our commitment to providing the best care for women, close to home. Dr. McCann joined BIDMC after completing a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His clinical interests and expertise include minimally invasive surgery to treat gynecological, uterine or cervical cancers. He is now seeing patients locally through Women’s Health Care. Dr. O’Brien is board certfied in OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She specializes in the care of high-risk pregnancies, and brings a tertiary level of expert care to expecting mothers. She is now seeing patients in Newburyport three times a month.


Simon Faynzilberg, MD Medical Director Dr. Faynzilberg is board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology. He originally received his medical degree and board certification in surgery in his native Russia, before coming to the United States in 1991. Dr. Faynzilberg completed his residency in anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he served on staff and as a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. In 2007, Dr. Faynzilberg completed a fellowship in Pain Management at Penn State Medical School, Hersey Medical Center. He has experience in private anesthesiology practice and in 2005 he led the opening of an interventional pain clinic at Anna Jaques Hospital.

Your Experience The staff of St. Margaret’s Center for Women and Infants is focused on making your stay as comfortable as possible. Our Labor and Delivery rooms feature home-like surroundings, with state-of-the-art fetal monitoring equipment that helps us track your progress – and the well-being of your baby – during labor. Once you’ve had your baby, you will move to an attractive room with a full-size roll-away bed for your partner. Meals are ordered from a room service menu, and, right before you are ready to go home, our Nutrition and Food Services staff have the privilege of preparing a special meal for you and your support person to mark the special occasion. Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit The level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is one of only a handful of units in Boston that provides the most advanced care and technology for premature and critically ill newborns. St. Elizabeth’s is affiliated with Children’s Hospital Boston to provide our most vulnerable patients access to some of the best medical treatment in the world. Neonatologists from St. Elizabeth’s and Children’s Hospital Boston provide onsite neonatal services at the St. Elizabeth’s NICU 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Interstitial Lung Disease/Sarcoidosis With a full array of diagnostic tools and skilled clinicians, our team is expert in developing care plans for patients with an interstitial lung disease or sarcoidosis. We specialize in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other forms of pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, vasculitis and all other interstitial lung diseases.

Interventional Pulmonology With a wide range of endobronchial interventions, such as ultrasound, laser therapy, brachytherapy and cryotherapy, our team has expertise and the tools to treat a wide array of airway and/or lung diseases with the latest and most advanced treatment procedures available.

Pulmonary Hypertension As pulmonary hypertension often is accompanied by an underlying lung, heart or vascular disease, our multidisciplinary team includes several specialists. Our diagnostic tools include both non-invasive and catheter based methods to evaluate pulmonary hypertension. We also provide comprehensive continuity care which focuses upon a patient’s response to therapy and the management of symptoms.

Pleural Service St. Elizabeth’s Pleural Service provides comprehensive evaluation, work-up and management for patients with confirmed or suspected pleural effusion, empyema, pneumothorax or hemothorax. We perform ultrasound guided procedures including: thoracentesis, pleural manometry, catheter placement and medical thoracoscopy.

Thoracic Oncology Our multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology team includes medical oncology, radiation oncology, thoracic surgery, gastroenterology, pathology, pulmonary medicine and radiology. We provide expert, compassionate care for patients with cancer of the lung, chest or esophagus.

Our Spine Center offers the combined expertise of specialists in pain management, neurosurgery, radiology, and physical therapy. Our physicians conduct joint reviews of all cases to consider alternatives and to determine the best plan of care for a patient.

We offer an array of treatments involving both nonsurgical and surgical options that best meet a patient’s needs. We work closely with primary care offices to communicate patient diagnoses and recommendations for treatment options and followup. We also facilitate worker’s compensation claims if needed.
