Food-waste recycling requires a 3-months storage and fermentation process to transform into fertilizer. In Taipei, limited space and dense population makes food-waste recycling a big challenge. The F2E/F214 project demonstrates a new recycling concept by turning urban food-waste into reusable material and bio-energy. It shortens the process time and reduces the storage space, creating a more efficient way to use this recycle resource in Taiepei city.

The concept of the space design was to create an exhibition and Re-foodwaste experiment space builds completely by recycle materials. The visitors will experience how food-waste can turn into valuable resources, which fulfills the educational purpose to help Taipei citizens learn the importance of foodwaste recycling. Recycle could be clean and chic, too! The pristine color and modern interior renovation design tells the story how recycle helps us to make not only a better environment, but also a decent and quality life.

Eco-Fuel/ Eco-Tour

The recycle food-waste from Taipei citizens would contribute back to citizens themselves. The bio-fuel made from food-waste could be applied as gasoline for public busses. In addition, the government would gain extra economic profits by selling the bio-fuel. I suggested an Eco-Tour bus line connects the tourist sites of Taipei and founds by profit of selling the bio-fuel. It is free for Taipei citizens to use the bus line and enjoy the benefits of doing foodwaste recycling, and also free for travelers to enjoy the eco-friendly public transportation system in Taipei. This win-win strategy helps Taipei city to deal with the food-waste issue, gain profits, and makes Taipei become a model of sustainable and eco-friendly city of Asia.

The Feather installation displayed Nike newest shoes collection, Flyknit, a collaboration project between Nike and Miniwiz. Combining the environmental thinking and sporty function design, the shoes is weaved by only recycle PET yarns, achieved Sustainability, Lightness, Formfitting, and Performance four distinctive features. The Feather embodied the Flyknit spirit in architecture level, allows visitors to experience the extraordinary combination of fashion, architecture, and environmental design.

In this project, I was discussing the feeling of people toward modern city and the social problems which arises from urbanizarion. Ironically, the dense city space shortens the distance of people, but promotes isolation among individuals’ relation, and makes metropolitan has long been described as apathetic and remote. Inspired by this phenomenon, I embarked my research on the sensitive relation between city and its residents.

Film / Behavior / Space

By observing the people in the movie, I analysis and translate these emotional behaviors of people into architectural movements. Tsai Ming-Liang, the director of the movies, who is famous for depicting human’s emotion in Taipei city. These scenes were stories happened in Taipei, described the bizarre behavior and awkward emotion of Taipei residents, how they express and react against the modern city life.

By applying the diagrams from the city space and people as materials, I used collage tactic to design new layers of spaces on the current city frame. People can experience the new city image with old memories and emotions of their life, and gain sympathy from this design. The fast urbanization deprives the memories of people toward the city, invoking a cycle in which people lose their emotional reliance. The organic design grows between old and new construction, preserving layers of memories within this new design. It is a way to think about urban renewing, to consider and respect the spiritual life of people who dwell within the city.

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” This design reflects one of the William Shakespeare’s famous line. The organic space arrangement integrates the drama stage, the performance park, and the movie theater within the modern cityscape, and blurs the boundary between performance art and reality. This design applied the scenes of city and scenes of people, created a scenographic memorial and performance art center to memorize the city culture of our generation today. 04 WOOD X CHAPEL X FARMFIELD The Vista_Wooden Chapel Academic / 2005 Fall

Nature is the most sacred temple. In this project, I lower the feature of architecture, and consider it as a role of medium, to connect the woods and a beautiful farm field view hidden in the residential area.

THE VISTA Wooden Chapel 26/27

Forest / Natural Scene

Inspired by the beautifully hidden natural scene, I conceived the concept as “the device of sight, to design and arrange layers of experiences of seeing the view. The sequence starts from natural woods, to the architecture medium, then seeing the picturesque farm field. Using wooden timber structure and wooden panel to form a narrow entrance and wide opening view deck, which creates contrast and impression impact from experiencing the process. By designing a stair to connect the basement altar to the ground, the circulation of the chapel becomes lively and connects to the environment surround.

Public Space / Vegetation

I took the Chinese ink and wash painting as concept to create layers of spaces between the nature and landscape-like living environment. The activity center was designed with approachable fashion; the nature of long and extending sapces are easy accesses for people to get in this design from public area. In other hand, the lower base of the dormitory building created barrier to keep privacy for students live in the dormitory, and lowered the visual impact from creating a high building on this campus. Most importantly, this design offered bountiful natural vegetation and public spaces, and created a congenial living and learning environment for students dwell inside.

Nature / Architecture

This design has achieved the intimate relation between nature and architecture. The landscape-like concrete slabs of this design are designed with green roof system, which was intended to recover the green ecology on the site where turned into architecture. In addition, the collaboration between concrete, wood and stone brought a genial texture for this design, and integrated the cold architectural spaces with warm and lively natural elements.

Bicycle trail Main road Town

Yilan County Government

River Yilan is a beautiful rural county of Taiwan. People visit here while holiday for a relaxing country vacation, and riding bicycle is the most popular way for both visitors and local residents. This design started as a renovation project of a 2 km long abandoned bicycle trail under the high rail structure. By planning the landscape with local vegetation, the design has returned the natural quality of the site, and created layers of riding experiences on this monotone and straight bike trail.
