Responsive The Brief: In an adult colouring book style line drawing, create a visual representation of something that helps you feel calm and relaxed, with a couple of lines explaining what it is you’ve drawn and why. The brief offered a great opportunity to try and show some of my skills in drawing, being so open for interpretation allowed much freedom in the final outcomes.

Based on experiences of calmness and relaxation, personally the city scapes have always been extremely calming, the intertwining roads, lots to look at, with many undiscovered small details. This theme as unique and interesting and would create some detailed outcomes. Mcbess - The illustrative work of Mcbess combines a dark and mysterious atmosphere with detailed and intriguing imagery. The build up of lines and tones creates a totally individual fantastical world where the natural and urban environment work cohesively. This was another major influence in the work, the city working alongside nature to hopefully emphasis the calm and serenity.

Responsive The pixel artwork created by Eboy again shows this complex and fantastical city scape that is overflowing with small details, each as interesting as the next. Working to an Isometric grid within most of the structures creates a familiar and consistent perspective that can be broken out of for even more interesting results. This use of an isometric grid has informed the production techniques used for the colouring book work.

Another really important aspect to point out in the Eboy artwork is the weird and wondrous buildings, architectural structures that are abnormal or interesting, this has been vital in influencing the outcomes.

The appreciation for details and making sure that from first look there is much more to see within all of Eboy’s artworks. This level of detail and care informed the overall aesthetics of the outcomes for this brief.
Responsive The Yellow Submarine, a animated film by The Beatles. Another really diverse and iconic world that portrays the unity of nature and humanity. The visual styling of the imagery is once again really detailed and has a unique flare to it. Though the work is in colour the ‘colouring book’ aesthetics is represented and would translate into a colouring book really easily. The use of pattern and shape throughout the films imagery has really influenced the way the designs have come out.

As well as this the use of large graphic typography spelling out positive words like ‘Love’, ‘Peace’ & ‘Happiness’.
Responsive Using the isometric grid informed by the work of Eboy, the build up of thick line allowed for clear and dynamic image of the city, it was key to have many roads intertwining showing the complexity of the city. Drawing out the image first allowed for a base structure to be build upon, the isometric grid allowed for total control and consistency in the perspective. 3D space is a area of design that my skills are akin to, hopefully this work demonstrated this.

Ensuring all the lines were correctly joint together was imperative so testing out by colouring the image made sure all the lines connected and could be coloured effectively.

The inclusion of trees was vital in the delivery of the concept, the tree has been designed to be on and off the isometric grid, the angle fits the space but the fluid lines give it a distinctive tree style.
Responsive The final image shows all of the elements from the research come together in a high quality and professional looking colouring book illustration. The image is inviting and has a sense of intrigue which is vital in this project, it invites the viewer to colour the city, versatility is key in colouring book designs, this work could be coloured in many different ways and the results would all be very different.

Overall the final image achieves all that was set out and is a interesting adaptation of the brief.

Hopefully the clarity of the image remains, and there is no confusion of what it is. From the beginning of the project detail and ensuring the designs were unique was so important.
