Establishing Communication Facebook: A place for inspiration, idea sharing, and planning meetings. Blogger: A place to document progress, establish direction, and share meeting discussions.

BLUE SKY STAGE

In this stage we divided up and approached the project from different angles. We performed research independently, posted inspration to our facebook, and began construction of our mock ups seperately

Inspiration

Model 1 Model One involved two cams that rotated and moved an attached linkage up and down in a reciprocating motion.

Model 2 Model One involved two cams that rotated and moved an attached linkage up and down in a reciprocating motion.

NEXT STEP

“Take the mechanical advantages of a mechanism and translate it into something else

CANNIBILIZATION We realized early on that cannibalizing complex electronics would slow progress

In The Shop We decided to move away from the studio space and paper. We weren’t creating anything substantial or expandable.

Helpful Discovery We started sketching as we built our models, to create a more immersive design process. This promoted ideas to expand, as we discovered possibilities.

Approach We impulsivly began creating two models that seemed natural for us. They had two main differences:

• Gravity Powered • Crank Powered

Presentation After presenting our models, we realized they didn’t work right and weren’t engaging.

MORE RESEARCH

HEAVY DUTY We decided any direction choices based on our mockups were unreputable. This is what we needed for our next step:

• A reliable model • A full scale model • Migratable platform

We decided to move forward with our crank powered design.

Key Methodology At this stage, we discounted documenting via social networks and transitioned everything to the physical model.

Gear System Completed A large milestone was translating the mechanism of a bicycle to the working board. This helped us lay down the foundation and heart of our machine.

Completed Model & Presentation Presenting our model helped us better understand what in our process worked for us and what we needed to do to take the design to the next level.

GAME CHANGER While trying to power our electric motor, we came close to jeapordizing our safety.

ALTERNATE ROUTE AHEAD

BLESSING IN DISGUISE By removing the electric motor, we were forced to either have only one crank moving the linkages or have two hand powered cranks.

Next Steps • No Electric Motor • Better Design • Customized peices
