S A M U E LC VS/ RIEN N SUME SUMMARY
I am an open-minded individual with a professional attitude and a positive outlook. I believe in the need to create sustainable places that will benefit both present and future generations, by designing inclusive, innovative and holisitic landscapes. I enjoy taking inspiration from the landscape and responding the the local character of areas to design and create dynamic new spaces that can be enjoyed by people and benefit the places that we live, work and play. Through studying a geography degree I have learnt about many of the issues that our planet faces, I believe landscape architecture is one of the ways in which we can help to resolve these issues and I am excited to be part of a profession that is growing in importance and recognition. I am a dedicated person, with an eagerness to learn and gain experience and also an excellent team-worker, and enjoy working with others to share ideas, knowledge and information to produce the best results. 10 Beechwood Street Leeds West Yorkshire LS4 2LX Mob: 07809720312 Samuel.Sinn93@gmail.com

STRATEGIC PLAN
My major design project for my Masters degree was focused in the city of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The module involved producing a feasibility, design and access and technical document. My proposal is to link existing green spaces within the city of Peterborough to create a continuous green corridor right through the heart of the city centre. This focused on an area within the site, known as the ‘Missing Link’ where I have proposed a new urban park and redevelopment of new and existing buildings, that gives a new lease of life to a previously underused area of the city centre, and helps the city achieve its aims of becoming the ‘UKs Environmental Capital’.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
‘Northminster’ Missing Link
The first task was to analyse the existing conditions within Peterborough, such as traffic and pedestrian movement, existing green space and infrastructure and the character and condition of the different areas within the city. Peterborough is a city with a lot of green space, however much of this is underused and in poor condition, with poor connections to the city centre and weak integration with the busy shopping streets. My strategy aimed to connect these green spaces and introduce clearer, and improved access into them, also introducing a coherency in materials and design that would help improve character by making these spaces feel more integrated and linked.
CREATE CONTINUOUS CYCLE LINKS FROM RESIDENTIAL AREAS INTO CITY CENTRE
OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE SITE INTEGRATE EXISTING GREEN SPACE INTO THE CITY CENTRE
The techical aspect of the project resolved around a new pedestrian area within my proposed park. Design details included a new pedestrian shopping street, raised planting beds and rain gardens within a new woodland ornamental garden, and furniture desigining and detailing.

Sometimes called ‘The Gateway to The Fens’ the design of the park takes inspiration from the low lying agricultural lands to the east of the city. The footpaths and routes around park create a network of spaces, including large grassy recreational areas, wildflower meadows and allotment gardens. These are framed by both new and existing buildings, new buildings include a Market and food hall, to replace the previously dilapidated market on the site. As well as a refurbished arts and exhibition centre previously a derelict abandoned courthouse, and finally new mixed use developments of shops, apartments and offices, to meet the ever growing demand of this rapidly growing city.

HULL - FRUIT MARKET URBAN VILLAGE Kirkstall • Leeds • UK
5
For my personal focus module I researched and undertook a project on urban regeneration within the city of Hull, the UK city of Culture for 2017 and a city that has undergone much regeneration work in the past few years.
car access, with cycling and walking the main mode of transport around the area, this would be encouraged through pedestrianised streets and dedicated cycle routes. An urban village should have all amenities within close proximity, including areas for shopping, work and recreation, which have all been addressed within the masterplan.
My particular area of interest was an area just south of the city centre along the Humber waterfront, for which I saw huge potential due to it’s proximity to the city and the large empty brownfield sites. My strategy for Hull involved creating a sustainable urban village in an area called the Fruit Market, just to the south of the city centre and the ‘Old town’. This urban village would have restricted
The detailed design aspect of this project was the green space in the north-east of the Fruit Market, which is currently a brownfield site. The idea behind Humber park is that it becomes a new city destination, somewhere that will attract visitors from the city centre to the Fruit Market, whilst also being a park that will serve the local
residents and also the local workers. Including areas for recreation, relaxation, socialising, educating and reflecting, the park will be inclusive for everyone whilst retaining the character of the Fruit Market. The design of the park is focused upon the three key areas, along the west is Queen Street, a shared-space street and the spine of the Fruit Market that leads to the waterfront. In the central area of the park is the activity hub with grassy open areas and activities for recreation. And along the river on the east of the park, is the wildlife orientated gardens and observation areas. Each zone is designed to incorporate the needs of different users and to encourage people from different groups to use the park.

MASTERPLAN
Leeds Beckett University - Cities Alive Project
KIRKSTALL ISLAND VILLAGE Kirkstall • Leeds • UK
My first major project of the postgraduate degree involved coming up with a design in Leeds based upon the ‘Cities Alive’ philosophy, rethinking how green infrastructure can create healthier, safer and more prosperous cities.
7
The idea behind the Kirkstall Island Village, was to create a new community heart for the suburb of Kirkstall. The 3 key issues we identified and aimed to address within the design principles were: - Lack of accessible public green space - Car dominance and congestion - Flooding within the area
This was achieved by introducing a new urban park, waterfront shopping destination, and wetland nature reserve. The idea behind the waterfront shopping village was to connect people back the River Aire, which has a rich historical and cultural heritage to this area of Leeds. Many of the old cotton and textile industries were once located in this area, with the now derelict St Anns Mills located on our site. Currently, the river is completely cut off from the community, with very limited access to the waterfront. The design aims to attract both locals and visitors to the unique experience and pleasant walk along the waters edge.
Inspiration for some the designs were taken from a field trip to Amsterdam at the start of the course. Including the tree lined bicyle boulevards, which provide an interesting and safer cycle route to encourage people to use bikes as a more sustainable means of transport. A variety of spaces within the park provide different opportunities for people to relax and enjoy a day out, whether this is having a bbq in the picnic area, seeing a festival within the events space or just enjoying the open parkland.

CONISTON FOREST PLANTING PLAN Coniston • Lake District •
This project involved the creation of a visitors attraction in the Lake District, on the banks of Coniston Water. My proposal was to introduce a new forest visitors centre, that aims to promote biodiversity, education and receation. The module also involved producing a planting plan and management proposals for our site, my plan included different areas of woodland and open spaces, with emphasis on using native plants species and woodland management techiques. The different woodland areas included plant and tree mixes depending on the character of the area; for example the dense woodland would be home to taller, denser trees to create a sense of enclosure and grandeur, including fast growing conifers and large native trees Quercus petraea and Alnus glutinosa. 9

YORKSHIRE BIG ART - LVIA Leeds and Bradford Airport • UK
The ‘Big Art’ module involved proposing a Yorkshire sculpture attraction near the Leeds-Bradford Airport. My idea involved replicating the iconic chimneys that can be seen on the Yorkshire landscape that indicate the industrial heritage of the region. I proposed the creation of wooden chimney stacks, 15m tall that could be planted with climbing plants, and would create a visually stunning and colourful mark on the landscape. It would not only be a visitors attraction, but also environmentally friendly using natural materials and helping promote biodiversity in what is currently a derelict brownfield site. Within this module was the creation of an LVIA report, which involved assessment of the landscape and visual impacts of my art feature. This included using ArcGIS software to create ZTV and LCA plans, as well as producing a photomontage of our sculptures from different points of view. 10

GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PLAN AND PRECEDENTS
BARN CONVERSION PRIVATE HOUSING PROJECT ANALYSIS DESIGN DRAWINGS
Root3 Associates
RESIDENTIAL I have been involved in numerous residential schemes during my time at Root 3, including these two, a private barn conversion scheme and a 100+ unit development within Lincolnshire. As well as producing general arrangement and planting plans, I have also been involved with arboricultural work, undertaking tree surveys on site and producing impact assessments, reports and surveys of the site before the design work takes place. Within these schemes are often playgrounds, for which I have designed and liased with contractors to produce high quality areas of play for children and communities. 17
