OPEN EVENING SUCCESS!

“Thank you for all of your support this term. As ever it has been incredibly busy, and at times it’s been challenging trying to fit it all in, but it’s also been great fun. I hope that you have a very merry Christmas and wish you all a fantastic 2015.” - Mr A Prestoe

SPORTING TRIUMPHS

WW1 EXHIBITION MARKING THE CENTENARY Samuel Ward students made up 3 of the 5 players in the Suffolk U18 Table Tennis team (Sam & Alex Horscroft and Holly McGerty). Together with team mates from Ipswich and Lowestoft they played matches against Cambridgeshire, Northants and Norfolk. A narrow defeat against Cambs was followed by a good win against Northants.

Samuel Ward marked the centenary of WWI this year by holding a WWI Exhibition! Featuring visits from the Royal British Legion, displays and stalls created by pupils, lots of WWI artefacts, artwork and a giant poppy that all pupils got to make their mark on - all to the sound of authentic WWI music played by our students! Each student had the opportunity to try on (authentically itchy) WWI clothing, sample ration-pack treats, and learn other pupils’ family history. Well done to everyone involved in the the impeccable organisation of the exhibition and to everyone else who helped make it a success, including the student helpers and cadets!

ONESIE MAD FOR CHILDREN IN NEED

With two England players in their side, Norfolk proved too strong for all the counties in this round but Suffolk competed strongly. Alex and Holly finished the day with a 50% win record. Sam being No1 seed had more difficult matches but managed a creditable 25% record! A huge congratulations to student Sam Nunn, who competed at the Weston Beach Race 2014, a one hour thirty minute race on the beach. This year there were 60 riders from all over the country! The track is made up of large manmade sand dunes, and a long straight on the sea - there is only one opportunity to stop for fuel during the race! Sam completed 18 laps of the course, coming first in his class the 85cc small wheel class for ages up to 13 years old.

A TIME FOR GIVING AT WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

This year students and staff made an incredible contribution to charity, managing to collect over £1500 for BBC Children in Need! From dressing up to selling cakes, both students and staff made an amazing effort on the day (as well as getting to spend the whole day in their PJ’s!). An additional well done to the staff who bravely nominated themselves to get dunked under a gigantic bucket of water.

12 Students visited the Rainbow Ward at West Suffolk Hospital to deliver Christmas gifts to the children there. Samuel Ward students have donated 300-400 gifts over the past two weeks. The Ward were extremely grateful and said it is the most gifts they have ever had donated! Thanks to all who contributed,
