CONTEMPORARY CENTER OF ARTS, CHANDIGARH

Project by Samyu TM

Semester 4, 2020

Medium used : Sketchup, AutoCAD, Lumion, photoshop.

The brief was to rejuvenate a public plaza, located in Sector 17 at Chandigarh. The site was given in the node of the sector.

The main Aim of this design is to rejuvenate the public plaza by coming up with an ideal typology and justify it. I intended to do an art center which follows contemporary theme. Various programs were offered in this project supporting the art center as well the surrounding area. The primary theme in design was to develop the infrastructure below the ground without spoiling the visual treat of history behind the plaza.

Earth Air Heat Exchanger system (EAHE system)

The system being used is an open-loop system, wherein outdoor air is drawn into the tunnel and delivered to the inside of the building. Hot air from inside of the building is exhausted out through the solar chimney. Considering the site area restrictions and efficiency, the final dimensions were chosen as

Pipe diameter: 0.6 m

Pipe length: 370 m

No. of pipes: 2

The airflow rate through each pipe: 4200 m3/hr

Total airflow rate: 8400 m3/hr

Alternative envelope for an urban and sub-urban context

Because of their local availability, LSEB and Agrocrete are the key components in the building envelope. These components will not be feasible in all geographical settings.

As a result, an alternative envelope with similar properties is constructed using widely available building blocks across the country.

Project X

Project by Samyu TM

Freelance, 2021

Medium used : Rhino - Grasshopper, Sketchup, V-ray, Photoshop

This is a design proposal to my dear friend and his family. It is a family of four. My client strongly believes in the quote, “Home is where the heart is”. They wanted to have a 3bhk, sitting amidst the green spaces with a calm environment. Although, the site is located in a tight urban context at Coimbatore ,my vision was fo create a Zen atmoshpere inside the dwelling.

I pushed my boundaries to achieve a straight forward design approach spicing up with some parametric touches to the design.

Portfolio | Samyu TM 28
29 | Selected Works Freelance - proposal

Concept

Since the site is located in a tight urban context at Coimbatore, I developed a concept of getting disconnected to the outside world and have everything inside. As per the client’s requirement, green spaces were fed into each level connecting with nature.

Form development is certainly the most crucial part in the design dévelopment process. As u can see in the diagram, the inner portion of the house is getting developed freely satisfying the clients need without any compromise. To get disconnected from the urban world outside a parametric shell has been used. It disconnects both visually and psychologically. At the same time, cutouts and extrusions are made with conscious for both lighting and ventilation.

DUPLEX RESIDENCE

Project by Samyu TM

Freelance, 2023

Medium used : Sketchup, AutoCAD, Lumion, photoshop.

This is an ongoing duplex residence project in Erode, Tamil Nadu. This project is programmed with an office in the ground floor followed by 3 BHK house on top with provision of an extra 2 BHK flat as a future extension. The site dimension is 60’ x 23’.

In a broader perspective this house follows a design language of Modern indian vernacular stlye by the touch of Bangalore terracotta jalli as a main facade element and Local Chettinadu tile pattern. This project is expected to complete in Jan 2024.
