The Negarestan Garden Take-away Coffee House Design and Execution

The client’s long-term vision was to set up a permanent café on the premises; however, a temporary structure was also needed to serve visitors until the completion of the permanent café. The architect aimed to create a modern structure that would not disrespect its traditional surroundings. The Architect chose to work with a 20 ft shipping container for the temporary structure for a number of reasons. Firstly because the structure could be relocated rather than demolished once the permanent café starts to operate. Second it was important for her to use second-hand ready-touse materials to accelerate the progress of the project. Using mirrors to cover the container would allow for the structure to act as a reflection of its surroundings. A shipping container covered in mirrors would entice viewers and induce excitement. The mirror-works create a feeling of rhythm and motion leading to effective viewer engagement. Café customers are often found circling the structure and posing for mirror-selfies; the café brings out their playful side.

Nebula is representative of this blurred relationship we as humans have with the virtual world. Additionally, it demonstrates the borders between the real-self and the virtual-self. It appears in the environment like a cloud. A cloud that represent a blurry and fragmented version of the existing environment. The absence of the presence invites you to start a journey. At the end of the journey, when you experience all the promising cavities and the false perceptions, when you find yourself as the center of the object, standing in the core of the pavilion, all that you can see are the countless reflections of yourself blending with the blurred environment around you.

A Habitat For Hugo( Human-Gecko) The Semester started with building paper models, teaming up and combining our paper models as it happens in exquisite corpse and it was followed by building 1/1 scale models and casting the pieces to do some material exploration. We were also manipulating our casted pieces with a 6 axis robot in order to achieve the properties that we found interesting in our material exploration on a greater scale. Later on we came up with scenario and a “client” to start designing in an architectural scale. My studies were about the transparent and the opaque and “grottos”. Inspired by the name of the studio I hybridize a human and a gecko and designed a habitat for that creature; focused on the sticky toe pads of the creature which allows the creature to cling to walls and scurry across ceilings with ease. In any way you decide to section the building, you will come up with a plan that Hugo uses to navigate its habitat. There’s no entrance for humans to get in the building but there’s a path for them in between the building that connects the northern and southern streets.

The site for this project was two areas of land which were merged into one. Two different ways to access to the building from north and south. Common spaces in the middle dividing each floor to two separate spaces. Vertical access by stair cases and two lifts in common spaces. The green zones has been designed in the building faรงade to express an attractive villa apartment.

Rhythm A whole note to two half notes, a half note to two quarter notes, a quarter note to two eight notes,... Subdivisions of beats The pattern of regular or irregular pulses caused in music by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic and harmonic beats. Offbeats(Syncopation) A temporary displacement of regular metrical accent in music caused typically by stressing the weak beat.

Experimental Studio Critic: Nate Hume Summer 2017. MS.Arch

The timelessness of design My experience in the intense experimentation studio this summer threw light on how design has the tendency to keep evolving. The multiple elements of the studio involve objects, landscapes, and chroma as they are considered critical singularities. They all have their own logic. Texture and chroma do not merely behave as insignificant elements of the project, but are for the most part becoming a central part of the creation of the project. The significant stage of the project is the point where the elements begin to interact and synthesize together. This leads to the inception of a space of possibility, through which a satisfying design can be churned out. All these projects began with a Persian word or a hybridization of multiple words; with a look at the morphological qualities of Persiantypography; the aim was to explore their formal qualities in three-dimensional space; and to combine language and architecture, which is in itself a language with no borders.
