RAWILLUSION Fall/winter ‘17
Fall/Winter ‘17
Raw Illusion looks at the need to go back to basics. Back to where we started from, our roots. The raw state, which is the coarse, unedited, untouched natural state, free from all impurites. The original.

The material world comes into sharp focus, as a reaction to virtual living. This is not to say that we are turning our backs on technology, But that we are using it as a means to connect to our surroundings. The objects associated with this trend encourage contemplation, emotional response and connect us to a specific environment

THE PURIST
1 Using ancient skincare techniques. Taking the knowledge of the past and repurposing it for a new generation. Ensuring the history of natural skincare isn’t forgotten. Emphasis on the natural unprocessed look. Use of nude make up tones. Certified vegan and made with classic recipes and raw ingredients using the latest technology to harness their powerful effects. Result in a biodegradable and versatile range.
DECONSTRUCTED
PASSES An increase in the use of asymmetric designs. The incomplete is the new complete. Keeping edges raw. Leaving the products unlined. Garments that appear unfinished, recycled, or give the illusion that they’re coming apart are the epitome of this trend. Taking apart the linings from vintage dresses and making the darts, seams, and zipper entirely visible, rethinking the role of fashion to hide its magical construction to create a suitable garment.
2
NATURAL Bringing farming culture back into the mainstream. Using natural ingrediants for gourmet cooking.
3
Ingredient manufacturers have stepped up and now offer ingredients that are naturally derived, minimally processed, organic, and not genetically modified. All of which food manufacturers use to formulate clean label products.
ORIGIN Going back to the roots. Getting inspired from everyday objects turning the mundane into exquisite objects to treasure. Simple authenticity considers the undyed, untreated and unfinished. Elementary materials such as natural hides, plain weave fabrics and office materials are honed into complementary pairings for products with an unconventional luxury.
4
CRAFT Focus moves to the importance of craftsmanship. A focus on the art of craftsmanship highlights the beauty, where the time spent polishing a simple piece of wood to turn it into a desirable luxury item becomes a signal to the future of luxury. Attention to detail is key as simple finishes such as handmade Rouleux loops and hand-pleating can elevate the ordinary.

ROUGH CUT
6
Taking inspiration from the raw crude form of natural materials for the rough texture. A dramatic material rawness is explored through roughly hewn, almost primitive-looking surfaces. Gouged, cracked, pounded, burned and blistered effects during shaping lend a monumental beauty to stone, mineral, metal and ceramic, emphasised by pleasingly sculpted forms.
UNCENSORED Brains are responding to this new desire for authentic content in everything. Embracing the natural non photoshopped form. Creating more realistic, attainable content is an emerging trend. An environment that needs more real, and less perfect, content. Plus-size and sports brands have led the authentic movement.

HOMELAND Homeland looks at the need to find pleasure and adventure in small things – pockets of untouched locations. An escape to find oneself. With the increase in travel, the need to go to unadultrated places. Places not yet corrupted by humankind. The theme centres on the growing need to find pockets of paradise or solitude in the everyday – from pauses in the work routine to short breaks for nature and craft in the evenings, and longer experiences at weekends

The strange beauty of nature reminds us of the wonders of the universe and the fantastical possibilities of going beyond its limits. Science takes on a cinematic quality in this preserved world where an unscripted drama is played out by weird creatures, bio-mimicry and morphing substances. Rare and contrasting materials take on an otherworldly importance, often in suspended and oating states. The atmosphere is ephemeral, re ned and darkly compelling.

SENSUAL LUXE
Fabrics and textures normally seen in the depths of winter such as crushed velvets and suede are made lighter and work as a luxurious start to the season as transseasonal layers. This modern take on luxury is enhanced through the addition of metallic fibres for both high-shine effects and crease effects.
