To design and build for the communities engaged in learning, teaching, interacting, researching about Architecture and contributing to the greater society is a creative and challenging process. The approach to campus design is better appreciated when it is inside-out rather than outside-in, as it has a lot to do more with the feel of the space rather than its appearance. As it is not just the idea of putting up one building in site but how the built and the un-built relate to each other.

Academic Block The aim is to design and build for the communities engaged in learning, teaching and research in the field of architecture. The focus of the campus is expected to be on the feel of a space rather than the appearance - balancing the built and the unbuilt. The idea of transition from the outdoors to the indoors should be thought about in greater detail. The physical elements of a place of learning must amount to more than just an equipped built surface; It must also dispense visual education by creating a coherent spatial whole whereas much heed is paid to built volumes as to open spaces. The academic block is designed in a way that there’s a complete integration of social and discussion spaces at regular intervals both internally as well as externally. This design aims to cater to the idea that the majority of learning happens outside of a classroom. The louvered plaza acts as an interaction space.

The library and research centre is centrally located with a shallow water body on all sides. It connects to the academic zone through a bridge passing that through the louvered plaza.

HOSTEL AND MESS The housing and hostel blocks are designed close to the academic zone providing the users with enough privacy. The housing zone is split into various blocks to create a hierarchy. The hostel zone is placed in such a way that it is easily accessible to the academic block and mess. The open plaza acts as a recreational space for the hostel students.

The striking facade acts as a focal point to the public and grabs their attention. The form is designed in such a way that it has a lot of natural light coming in. The bridge connecting the mall and hotel acts as a viewing deck to the beautiful landscape and water body below.

02

Mall + Hotel

The aim is to design a mixed-use development comprising of a 3 star hotel [100 keys] along with a shopping mall. The hotel is to cater to the travellers for business and leisure and the mall is to provide the recreational elements for both. The hotel is designed in such a way that it is visually connected to the green spaces provided within the mall as-well-as the marshland nearby [which is home to a large bird population]

The mall has been designed in a way that the shopper has a clear view of all the shops from any point of the mall. The central atrium brings in natural light. The first floor of the mall connects to the hotel through a bridge for convenience.

Research Facilitation Centre The envisaged centre aims to facilitate interaction between Alumni, focusing on young graduates and research scholars of Architecture and allied arts. It should also act as a space that enables group interaction and brainstorming sessions between the mentioned groups and other interested groups.

30

The design was aimed to explore the relationship between built and open spaces with a functional need. Triangular forms stand out with their bold use of sharply designed angles. To boost creative thinking by rethinking the way we design formal/informal spaces.
