Pick up the phone Lord! I feel so alone. Take your time with this one. Let’s dig in. Could you relate to the feelings of loneliness in this section? How do you think it’s possible for someone to feel lonely even when they are surrounded by or have access to friends and family? Do you think it’s possible that God allows us to experience solitude or loneliness in order to draw us closer to Him? Why do you think it’s so difficult to share our feelings of loneliness with others or even with God Himself? Read Isaiah 49:15-16. Then read it again. Close your eyes and let the last sentence sink in: See I have written your name on the palms of My hands. Do you see the correlation between your importance and Jesus’ sacrifice? Meditate on the hidden treasure in this verse. How does it make you feel to know you are so important to Him that you are forever engraved on the palm of His hands by nails driven at the cross? How does it line up with the thoughts you may have about being lonely or forgotten? What things or conditions cause people to think that they are separated from God’s love? How does Romans 8:38 answer this question? Study Time! Discuss two situations where God’s Presence showed up for someone in the Bible who was in a moment of solitude. Do you see yourself in any of these scenarios? What are some ways that we can make it through our lonely spells, both Scriptural and practical? Write these down in your journal and remember to draw on these when you feel alone.
