The floorboards should be laid on the floor in randomly staggered configuration. Consider two factors to determine the direction in which timber has to be run. Firstly chose the longest wall and lay parallel to the wall, secondly make sure that some natural source of light fall on boards.
Start measuring the width of the floor and ensure that measurement is taken wall to wall at right angle to run the board.
Black builder’s plastic should be laid with the thickness of 0.2 mm which will act as barrier against moisture and seam must be covered with plastic tape.
The underplayed flooring must be rolled so that every end and sides fit properly against the walls. Make sure the seams between lengths joins together from the end so as to avoid overlap.
Place the board with groove side facing the wall followed by second board but before you do that, apply good amount of glue to the top of tongue of the end join so that the joints are firm.
Last board is applied if necessary and a gap of 8 mm has to be left around the perimeter of all walls. Now start with second row using cut-off from the former row and continue in the same process until the installation completes.
The final boards need to be cut lengthwise and to mark the width of cut, place final board on the top o last board. Make use of floorboard off-cut, slide the off-cut along the wall along the wall scribing with a pencil placed against the wall and cut off the board along the line.

Laminate flooring is easy and nuisance free. It can be said that it is a type which resembles real wood. Material used in laminate is a synthetic material mixed with natural elements so as to make it similar to natural substance and feel of real wood. Almost any kind of flat surface is used to laminate for flooring material. Wood is the main core material used in lamination being organic and porous it is valued for its sheen and coziness. Sometimes it’s difficult to maintain wooden flooring but laminating the wood slacks can keep them intact which make them easier to maintain. Fiberboard is another popular material, being a synthetic it is less prone to rotting than wood. Fiberboard is porous and scrubbing and mopping may only ruin it. However after laminating its durability increases in some way which makes it better to maintain. Types of laminate flooring Laminate flooring is of several types such as high pressure lamination and direct pressure lamination. High pressure lamination involves subjecting the whole core material to heated lamination. This type of lamination results in dent and scratch proof flooring. It makes the floor thinner, however it is quite expensive than direct pressure flooring. Direct pressure lamination involves subjecting the core material at a time under the lower pressures and temperatures. This type of flooring is comparatively cheaper and prone to scratches and dent. How to install laminate flooring
Laminate flooring uses unique edge joining systems for installation. Installing laminate flooring is much easier than any other lamination. The tools which are needed for its installation are: a rubber mallet, tape measure, a flooring pull bar, coping saw, utility knife, hammer, nails, laminate flooring, and underlayment pad.
The first thing to do is to prepare the floor which has to be laminate, as pull out the old stack strips around the room’s perimeter. Remove the baseboard and use the coping saw to cut off the bottoms of door jambs.
Now roll out the underlayment pad and connect the pieces together with wide clear plastic tape. Just snap the laminate planks together and stagger the joints. While laminating the floor leave ¼’’ clearance at each wall and on the initial wall where you start, use spacers which you pull out before installing the baseboard.
As you go along you need to use mallet and pull bar to snug things up. You can use your utility knife to trim the snapping connections on the adjoining planks so that they can slide together. Use some glue to fix them together.
Advantages of laminate flooring Easy installation Laminate flooring can be easily installed at homes. Earlier in older type of laminate flooring you need to use glue to intact the wooden planks, but now with the coming of newer type of laminate flooring which has click lock design comes with dry glue already on the product. This requires just a swipe of wet sponge to active it. Durable Laminate flooring is not prone to dents and scratches making it durable. It has a wear layer underneath which protects it from all the wear and tear. Used at moist places Laminate flooring can easily be put into bathrooms, kitchens and other places where moisture remains in intact. But laminate flooring can’t bear standing pool water. Cleanable Laminate flooring can be cleaned with a broom or vacuum, you can also mop the floor slightly with easy hand. How to install concrete flooring The first step while installing the concrete flooring is to prepare the foundation.
Layout the dimensions of the concrete slab by setting stakes at the corners of the proposed structure. These stakes offset to the outside of the exterior walls of the slab by three feet which run parallel to the framework.
You need to make your forms from wooden 2 by 4 and half inch plywood. Just put the forms with double headed nails and use the stakes to secure the forms. The forms are set to grade by following a string line pulled from A to B.
Decide the depth of the slab to put and the ideal depth are 4 inches.
Attach a string line to the top of the wooden forms about every 12 inches. The string line should cross over to the parallel board. You also need to check the level on each line using leveling tool to insure accuracy.
Spread plastic sheet across the interior of your sub-grade and going down into all areas on the inside of the form work.
Place the reinforcing steel horizontally around the exterior grade beam and tie it together using tie-wire. Keep the slab steel off the ground by using pieces of brick so that the concrete can get the steel.
Pull string line from side to side of the form. Take short pieces if rebar and drive them into the ground to just below the string line.
The second step involves the preparing the floor.
Pour the concrete in the beam at the outer edges and rent a concrete vibrator to use in consolidating the concrete. Now you have to use the probe of the vibrator along the outer edges of the beam every 12 inches. Pour the dry concrete and start from one corner to other.
Begin leveling the grade of the floor using the straight edge and you can just check that concrete is in front of the straight edge by pulling it.
Control the depth of the floor by using the pins that you set earlier and take a metal trowel and strike off the concrete at the top of the pins. Then tale a hammer and drive the pin down and repeat the process with all the pins and allow the pins to partially set.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tiles are a commonly used floor finish made from polyvinyl chloride. Due to the small size of the tiles, usually 150mm, 225mm and 305mm, any damage can soon be repaired by replacing individual tiles (as long as some spares are kept). The tiles are made of a composite of PVC and fibre, producing a thin and fairly hard tile. PVC tiles are prone to some issues. The glues used on self-adhesive tiles sometimes give way, causing edges to lift and get broken by foot traffic. The surface wears, in time causing difficulty in cleaning, then loss of the coloured pattern layer. Finally, a very smooth sub-floor is required to lay them on, otherwise they gradually become cut by the foot pressure above and the shallow edges below. The main advantages of PVC tiles are low cost, ease of replacing individual tiles, and the fact that the tiles can be laid with only brief periods available. In fact, aDIYer with assorted ten-minute slots in
otherwise busy days are enough to get a floor laid gradually, and thus can avoid professional installation costs.
