uanita Tackett owns LED Source of Charlotte, North Carolina located at 9303-L Monroe Rd. Providing energy efficient lighting solutions using state-of-the-art LED technology with the company named a top new franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine, she is giving back to the community in many ways. As the first woman franchisee of LED Source, a company that lists Massage Envy and Fastsigns among its clients, she is unique as a pioneer in the industry. Juanita Tackett
Tackett dabbled in the green industry in the 1980s, when she worked with solar technology. After years of experience working in real estate, with an emphasis on multi-family housing, she gained insight into how building owners stand to save money. These experiences, enhanced by an appreciation for the positive impact the industry has on the environment and the Charlotte community at large, led to an interest into the world of LED lighting. “After working with solar technology I developed a major interest in sustainability,” said Tackett. “I had read several articles about LED lighting and knew it was an exciting industry. I decided that I wanted to invest in my own business, but I had not been able to find a concept that would accomplish what I wanted to do, which was to both help customers save money while also helping to protect the environment. When I read an article on LED Source in USA Today, I knew that I had found the perfect opportunity to do both.”
A problem-solver by nature, she now provides LED lighting solutions that businesses can retrofit over their existing lighting to save on their electricity bills and maintenance costs. In addition, she helps customers take advantage of tax incentives made available by government agencies and rebates by energy suppliers. Her contributions have earned her recognition by the community; recently, she was named a finalist for the National Association of Women Business Owners’ Rising Star Award in recognition of her company’s contributions.
LED Source Charlotte works with a wide array of commercial business types as well as nonprofits and residential customers. They recently completed a project for the Charlotte Salvation Army, retrofitting their fluorescent tubes with LED lighting and have other projects for some local nonprofits coming up.
As she charts her business’ course with professionalism second to none, Tackett reflects on her unique position as both an ambassador to an industry that is quickly becoming mainstream and as one of the first women to break into a predominantly male-dominated field. “This industry isn’t one that often attracts women, so to be able to help lead the way in an already progressive industry is an honor,” said Tackett.
“
LED lighting isn’t a trend, it’s something that is fundamentally and permanently changing the way we use lighting .
