'Trump left everyone in this Capitol for dead': President failed to call off rioters
Morgan Wallen issues video apology for racial slur HiIndia Newsdesk
Country star Morgan Wallen has issued a five-minute video apology after being filmed using a racial slur.
The singer was suspended "indefinitely" by his record label last week after a video emerged of him using the N-word as he returned home from a night out. "The video you saw was me on hour 72 of a 72-hour bender, and that's not something I'm proud of," he said. Wallen said he waited before issuing a statement so he could make personal apologies and meet black leaders first. "I've decided to go off the grid for a little while and get used to making good decisions," he said in the statement, which was posted to his Instagram account. "Who knows if I'll be able to live down all the mistakes I've made, but I'm certainly going to try. I'm going to spend some time taking back control of… living healthy and being proud of my actions."

Graphic video shown as expresident called 'inciter in chief'
HiIndia Newsdesk Senators at Donald Trump's second impeachment trial have been shown new dramatic and graphic video of the day his supporters stormed the US Congress.
The footage showed police engaging in hand-to-hand clashes with rioters and desperately pleading for support. Officers ushered politicians to safety, sometimes within metres of the mob breaking into the chambers. Using Mr Trump's own words and tweets, Democrats prosecuting the case argued he had acted as "inciter in chief ". A two-thirds majority is required to convict Mr Trump in the evenly split 100-seat Senate, but an acquittal looks likely as the vast majority of Republican senators have remained loyal to him so far. However, if convicted, he could be barred from holding office again. In at times emotional testimony, impeachment managers - the Democrats tasked with leading the prosecution methodically pieced together the 6 January attack on the Capitol.

Biden seeks more foreign workers while skirting H-1B visa uproar
HiIndia Newsdesk Joe Biden’s immigration overhaul seeks to allow more skilled foreign workers into the US without stirring widespread protest from labor groups, whose opposition would all but ruin prospects for what is already one of the president’s most precarious priorities. The sweeping proposal Biden sent to Congress on his first day in office drew quick Republican opposition over its centerpiece: a faster path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US. Another provision would allow more foreign students and workers to enter the US by increasing the number of employment-based green cards. Business groups view the proposal as a way to increase the supply of coders and other skilled tech workers for US companies without raising caps on programs such as the H-1B visa for highskilled workers. Companies like Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Apple Inc. and Facebook Inc. have for years pressed to increase the number of tech workers allowed into the US, saying they need engineers from countries like India because there aren’t enough skilled Americans. But efforts to expand the workforce through H-1B visas have drawn a backlash from unions and immigration opponents, who argue that the companies overlook US talent to hire foreigners at lower salaries.
I want to show you why this violence was foreseeable and why Donald Trump was different than any other politician
HiIndia Newsdesk US President Joe Biden has raised the issue of human rights abuses in Xinjiang during his first call with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the White House said. Mr Biden also pressed Mr Xi on trade, the clampdown in Hong Kong and ongoing tensions with Taiwan. According to Chinese state television, Mr Xi warned Mr Biden bad relations would be a disaster for both countries. Tensions have soared in recent times, over trade, espionage and the pandemic. The China-US relationship is crucial to both sides and the wider world, with Beijing repeatedly calling on the new administration in Washington to improve relations which had deteriorated under Donald Trump.
Rep. Stacey Plaskett
undertakes historic role in Senate impeachment trial against Donald Trump
Rep. Stacey Plaskett's life journey has taken her from the housing projects in Brooklyn, New York, to a historic role in the Senate impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump. Plaskett, a delegate from the U.S. Virgin Islands, is one of nine Democrats tasked with prosecuting the House's impeachment case against Trump. On Wednesday afternoon, Plaskett presented new evidence in the impeachment trial - showing previously unreleased videos of the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, contending Trump "fanned the flame of violence, and it worked." "I want to show you why this violence was foreseeable and why Donald Trump was different than any other politician just telling their fighters -- their supporters, to fight for something. The violence that occurred on Jan. 6, like the attack itself, did not just appear," Plaskett said Wednesday. "You'll see that Donald Trump knew the people he was inciting, he saw the violence that they were capable of, and he had a pattern and practice of praising and encouraging that violence, never, ever condemning it." Plaskett is a former law student of lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin, who was a constitutional law professor at American University. As he introduced her Wednesday afternoon as the first delegate to participate in a Senate trial, Raskin reflected that introducing Plaskett during the Senate trial is "a moment of special pride for me."

Govt respects farmers’ voice, their protests pure, bid to pollute: PM
As Congress members interrupted his speech, the Prime Minister said it was a “well-designed attempt” to ensure that farmers don’t get to know the 'truth' about the laws. HiIndia Newsdesk The Government and Parliament respect the farmers voicing their views on the three farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wednesday, as he strongly defended the need for reform and change. Saying that the old agriculture marketing system will continue and those who don’t want the new system can continue with the old, Modi said the “Kisan Andolan” and andolankari were pavitra (pure). But “andolanjeevi” — a controversial term he used in his Rajya Sabha address to describe the “habitual protester” — had hijacked the protests, he said, by waving photos of those jailed for serious offences and asking for their release. Some farmer unions had distanced themselves from one of the groups, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), whose members, on December 10, marched with posters of activists arrested in the Bhima Koregaon case and demanded their release.
Replying in the Lok Sabha to the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, Modi said: “Not allowing toll plazas to work, destroying telecom towers — does it serve a pavitra andolan?” “I am surprised for the first time a new argument has come — we did not ask, so why did you give?” Modi said. “Be it issue of dowry or triple talaq, no one had demanded laws to deal with them but the laws were made as they were necessary for progressive society.” He said that forward-looking governments should not wait for people to demand such measures – this, he said, happens in feudal societies. As Congress members interrupted his speech, the Prime Minister said it was a “well-designed attempt” to ensure that farmers don’t get to know the “truth” about the laws. “No matter how much you try to sabotage it, you will fail to do so, because the truth is out there…” he said.
No compromise on India’s sovereignty, Govt pulls up Twitter: ‘differential says Rajnath Singh on Ladakh standoff treatment on Capitol Hill, Red Fort’

Pangong. Our security forces have proved that they are ready to face any challenge to protect the sovereignty of the country," Rajnath Singh said. "Chinese actions have impacted the bilateral ties. But I am immensely proud that the Indian armed forces have bravely faced the challenges at the border. We have made it clear to China that no attempt should be made to change the status quo. We have had nine round of talks between the two countries and have clarified that both forces should return to their posts," Singh said in Rajya Sabha
HiIndia Newsdesk Comparing the “action taken by Twitter during the Capitol Hill episode and… the disturbance in Red Fort”, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday “expressed strong displeasure” to Twitter at what it called its “differential treatment”. “A deep sense of disappointment at seeing Twitter side not with ‘freedom of expression’ but rather with those who seek to abuse such freedom and provoke disturbance to public order, was conveyed to the Twitter representative,” the ministry said in a strongly-worded statement released after a two-hour-long virtual meeting between its officials and senior Twitter executives.
Tunnel geo-mapped to aid in rescue of trapped persons HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk The United States on Wednesday said that there is no change in its policy on Jammu and Kashmir. “I want to be very clear there has been no change in US policy in the region,” State Department Spokesperson Ned Price told reporters in view of a tweet from the South and Central Asia Bureau of the State Department which welcomed the resumption of 4G mobile internet in Jammu and Kashmir. “We welcome the resumption of 4G mobile internet in India’s Jammu & Kashmir. This marks an important step for local residents and we look forward to continued political & economic progress to restore normalcy in J&K, tweeted the South and Central Asia Bureau of the State Department.
The death toll in the Chamoli disaster has risen to 34 with 170 persons still missing on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, new technological aids were incorporated to rescue between 25 to 35 persons stuck in the Tapovan-Vishnugad hydro project tunnel with a little more than 100 metres of it being cleared of debris. The clearing of the debris is being hindered as the sludge is causing a backflow. The State Disaster Response (SDRF) has resorted to drones and sniffer dogs to aid in the search. To boost the search and rescue efforts in the tunnel, the SDRF DIG Ridhim Agarwal directed the use of drone and helicopter to conduct geographical mapping of the tunnel. This will ascertain the status of debris in the tunnel and other aspects which will aid the rescue operation. In addition to this, thermal scanning or laser scanning would also help in gaining some information about the persons trapped in the tunnel. The digital data acquired from the mapping was being analysed by scientists. According to a senior PWD engineer, geographical mapping through remote sensing is conducted on the site where a tunnel is to be constructed to acquire relevant data. Geo mapping using drones gets more data about the conditions in the ground. According to the SDRF, thermal scanning is done to check for signs of life but since its range is limited, laser scanning is resorted to get a thermal image of what is in the ground.

Absence of an Early Warning System Cost Many Lives at Joshimath HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi: As a part of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off in Joshimath, in Chamoli district, and hurtled downstream on the Dhauli Ganga, towards the Tapovan hydroelectric power project, some people idling under the Sunday sun in the mountains above first spotted the huge column of debris approaching and alerted workers at the site below with shouts and whistles. Manish Kumar, a survivor of the incident, ran uphill on hearing the loud rumble and clamour later; he later said that a proper alarm system could have saved more lives. By then, a few kilometres upstream, the Rishi Ganga power project had been completely washed away.
No way to warn
If there had been cameras or sensors installed a few kilometres upstream, and the alarms had gone off even five or 10 minutes earlier, many more lives could have been saved. But that was not to be. The Tapovan power project, in the making for 15 years, has already witnessed three major episodes of flooding but still doesn’t have a functional early-warning system that could have alerted its workers to an impending flood. The Chamoli tragedy has annotated yet another major oversight and lapse on the Centre’s part – that it hasn’t taken any lessons from the past and taken simple safety measures.

Looking ahead to what Bollywood will look like after Covid Last year, Covid-19 halted film productions and shuttered cinema halls. As new models of entertainment hit the shelves, we look at what they might mean for Hindi cinema of the near future. Now that Bollywood is open for business — cinema halls began operating at 100% occupancy from February 1 and film shoots are well underway — it might be an apt time to ponder over an essential question. In the foreseeable future, what changes will one of the world’s biggest movie industries undergo, and how will it keep up to our increasingly changing times and needs?
Battered by Covid-19, the box-office had its curtains down for the better part of 2020, and even though things are slowly bouncing back, the prospects of recovering the lost ground appear bleaker than ever. Some of that ground has been captured by the digital revolution, a reality Hindi cinema seems to have only reluctantly embraced.

Kangana Ranaut lead Dhaakad also stars Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta. It'll have a theatrical release on October 1.
Actress Gehana Vasisth arrested in porn racket, had shot 87 obscene videos The Mumbai Police has arrested actressmodel Gehana Vasisth for her alleged role in shooting and uploading porn videos on a website. "She has shot 87 porn videos and uploaded them on her website, which requires a subscription to watch. Those who have subscribed to the channel have to pay ₹2,000," a senior police official told The Times of India.
Sushmita Sen is not just a person, she’s a vibe: Rohman Shawl Rohman met Sushmita two years after he came to Mumbai to pursue modelling. “Everything in my life changed after that. As outsiders, we have a certain perception about a star’s life. But, when you stay with them, you realise that it’s a lot of hard work,” the model said. Rohman credited Sushmita for helping
Kangana’s character of Agent Agni is armed with a machine gun, in the backdrop of a burning vehicle in what looks like the setup of an action sequence. Kangana tweeted the pictures and wrote, “They call her Agni… the brave one #Dhaakad I say she is my depiction of Bhairavi the goddess of death … #Dhaakad.” The makers had recently also revealed the looks of Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta. While Rampal plays the main antagonist Rudraveer, Dutta will be seen as the ‘evil master’ Rohini. In Dhaakad’s previous poster too, Kangana Ranaut flaunted a fierce look. She even called the movie, “India’s first female-led action thriller”. Talking about the film Kangana earlier said, “Dhaakad is not only a benchmark film for my career but will be a turning point for Indian cinema as well. The film is mounted on a large scale, and is one of a kind female-led action film.” Written by Chintan Gandhi and Rinish Ravindra, the action-thriller is jointly produced by Sohel Maklai Productions and Asylum Films and co-produced by Qyuki Digital Media. The film also marks screenwriter Ritesh Shah’s first collaboration with Kangana Ranaut. him evolve as a person and making him clearer about his ambitions. “On a personal level, that changed me. I started taking things seriously, I started respecting life more, both mine and others’. When I started modelling, I wanted to be a star, but now, I have different plans. I want to venture into business, eventually. But for now, I want to stick to modelling as that makes me happy. Being famous is not on my wish list anymore,” he said. The love-struck boyfriend heaped praise at his partner, saying that he marvels at the beauty of her thoughts. Rohman added that it takes time to understand the Arya star but once the initial bridge is crossed, one cannot resist her charm. When I wake up in the morning and look at her, I think, ‘Oh God, I am so lucky’. Sushmita Sen is not just a person, she is a vibe. It takes time to understand her, but when you do, you are bowled over. The way she thinks will make you marvel at how beautiful her mind is.
Salman Khan: It is not a good thing that theatres are closing down Salman said, “We have made three movies that are ready for release. Theatres are looking like graveyards right now. There are also so many theatre owners who have had to close down because of financial reasons. It is not a good thing that theatres are closing down. This is our business. Our work is to act and make movies. Where will we show our movies (if theatres close down)? It is like a catch 22 situation. They are incomplete without us, and we are incomplete without them.” He added, “They (exhibitors) had requested us to release Radhe in theatres, and now that things have eased down and we are seeing people roaming around normally, we can do it (release the film in cinema halls). Theatre owners are going to be careful (about Coivd-19 protocols), and I’d request fans to be cautious too. They should sanitise their hands, keep a safe distance and be responsible. Now that the vaccines have come, I think we are all heading towards a safe zone. I am hoping 2021 and 2022 are better than 2020 for all of us.” Directed by Prabhudheva, Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai was scheduled to hit Indian screens in May 2020 but was delayed due to the outbreak of coronavirus. The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Disha Patani and Randeep Hooda.

I credit my entire success to Wagle Ki Duniya
Aanjjan Srivastav

Wagle Ki Duniya Nayi Peedhi, Naye Kissey
Aanjjan Srivistav spoke at length about his association with Wagle Ki Duniya, what it did to his career and the new series. The experience of playing Srinivas Wagle
Honestly, I was a little worried initially as I didn’t know if I will manage to play the same character again, and in the same way. I was trained well by RK Laxman, Kundan Shah and Ravi Ojha. However, when I read the script, I understood the hard work this new team has been putting in, and everything just fell in place. I found my Wagle as soon as I was on the set. This is not like any other TV show. It’s an exceptional project that needs special care and love. I never expected that someone would make this show with the same affection. I am so thankful to SAB and Hats Off Productions for bringing Wagle Ki Duniya back. The world has changed and progressed from the time you first met the Wagles in 1988. In the new series, you will get to see how Srinivas’ son tries to strike a balance with his parents’ traditions and the evolving new world. I am really happy that they cast Sumeet for the part. He is doing an amazing job as Rajesh Wagle.
Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi, Naye Kissey is a slice-of-life show revolving around a simple family man Rajesh Wagle. While he aspires for a better lifestyle for himself and his family, he is hesitant to take risks and move with the times. Wagle Ki Duniya- Nayi Peedhi, Naye Kissey will showcase the strong value system of the middle-class of today, and their daily life and issues.
I would love to return to Grey’s Anatomy: Kate Walsh Actor Kate Walsh says she is open to reprising her role of Doctor Addison Montgomery on the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. The 53-year-old actor said the ABC series changed her life forever. Asked about the prospect of returning to Grey’s Anatomy, Walsh told US Weekly, “Of course! I mean, I’m here in western Australia so it
would be a big trip so I’d have to see. But, yeah, I’m always open to it. I’m here. I couldn’t be further away from Los Angeles right now. But maybe Addison could call in or zoom in.” The actor, who starred on the show between 2005 and 2012, said Grey’s Anatomy has been “an epic piece of my life.” “It’s been such an incredible run and has changed so many lives and has certainly changed my life. Whatever they decide I think obviously is a creative decision, but I was thrilled to be a part of it,” she said.
I would love to play James Bond Delnaaz Irani and Ashnoor Kaur to play a mother-daughter duo in Pari Hun Main
Known for her comic roles, Delnaaz Irani has no qualms playing a mother. In the upcoming web series, Pari Hun Main, she essays the protective mom of Telly actor Ashnoor Kaur (Patiala Babes). Irani is looking forward to some conventional roles for a change. Delnaaz Irani and Jatin Lalwani will be seen playing the parents in the show. Arushi Handa will also be seen playing parallel lead. On talking about the show Ashnoor shares, "I had an amazing experience working with my co-actors. Delnaaz and Jiten sit were really sweet. The warmth was so good and vibe on set was so well. Jatin sir is like powerhouse of the team. Talking about my role, she is a very inspirational character much similar to my character in Patiala Babes.
Tom Holland said, "Ultimately as a young British lad who loves cinema, I'd love to be James Bond." Spider-Man star Tom Holland says he would love to suit up and play British spy James Bond in future. The 24-year-old actor, who is best known for essaying the role of Peter Parker/ superhero Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, quipped at 5 feet 6 inches, he will be a “really short” Agent 007. “Ultimately as a young British lad who loves cinema, I’d love to be James Bond. So y’know, I’m just putting that out there. I mean I look pretty good in a suit! I’d be like a really short James Bond,” Holland said on Variety Award Circuit podcast. Before starring in the third chapter of Spider-Man, Holland will again change gears with crime drama Cherry, in which he will reunite with Russo Brothers after Avengers: Endgame, and Chaos Walking, a sci-fi action adventure thriller.

Trust Nora Fatehi to ace the most elaborate outfits with utter ease and oodles of glamour. And she proved it yet again when she recently shared a series of stunning images wearing a creation by designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. ora looks ethereal in a halter blouse adorned with pearls and crystal. This look is certainly not for the faint-hearted but she carries it off effortlessly. The blouse was paired with a sheer white sari. Describing the look, the designers said: “Nora Fatehi wears light as air, organza Dhakai Jamdani saree, handembroidered with Resham mandala motifs and edged with a Resham and sequins lace border. A pearl and crystals blouse adds lustrous glamour to this ethereal masterpiece.” The sari was not draped in the traditional way, with gave an interesting twist to the look. For makeup, she went for glossy red lips, sleek eyeliner and a rose gold pink eyeshadow. It was all brought together with lightly contoured cheeks and a generous dose of highlighter.

Indian novels that everyone needs to read
Healthy toast toppings
Toast is among the quickest and most convenient breakfast options. But most of us prefer having it with butter, cheese or any other kind of sandwich spread. However, excess of these food items may have adverse effects on your health. Butter and cheese, for instance, are high in calories and saturated fats and may lead to weight gain if consumed in excess amounts, according to Healthline. Overeating cheese has also been linked to gastrointestinal disturbances, especially among those who are lactose intolerant. Former MasterChef runner-up Neha Deepak Shah recently shared some healthy, alternative toast toppings that you can try. Here’s what she recommended: *Instead of butter or cheese, you can use salted hung curd or hummus *Top this with cucumber, tomatoes, pickled onions, caramelised onions or other veggies of your choice *Add herb and cracked black pepper
‘Polite Society’ by Mahesh Rao, published by Tinder Press
‘A Fine Balance’ by Rohinton Mistry, published by Faber & Faber Set in 1975, when prime minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency due to civil unrest, this fine novel is the story of four strangers – a widow, a young student who has been uprooted from his idyllic hill station home and two tailors who have fled the caste violence of their native village. The quartet are thrust together, sharing a cramped apartment and facing an uncertain future in the middle of India’s political turmoil. Shortlisted for the 1996 Booker Prize, Mistry’s beautifully written novel is a literary tour de force.
‘The White Tiger’ by Aravind ‘The Lives of Others’ by Neel Adiga, published by Atlantic Mukherjee, published by Vintage The enthralling stor y of Balram Halwai’s journey from “sweet, innocent village fool” to ruthless entrepreneur scooped the Booker Prize in 2008. This brilliant debut novel tells the searing tale of two Indias – one of them Balram’s home village, where sewage seeps down the road and children are “too lean and short for their age,” the other the city of Delhi, with its noisy shopping malls, traffic jams and slums. Look out for the film too – a Netflix adaptation is underway, with Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles.
Shortlisted for the Booker Prize and the Costa Novel Aw a r d i n 2 0 1 4 , Ne e l Mukherjee’s second novel is set in 1960s Kolkata and opens with the shocking account of a desperate man, who is unable to feed his starving wife and children and murders them before killing himself. This shocking scene is juxtaposed with the story of the wealthy Ghosh family, one of whom has become involved in extremist political activism. A powerful generational story of the chasm between the haves and have-nots.
If you’re looking for a lighter read, tr y Mahesh R ao’s beautifully observed and witty second novel, a contemporary version of Jane Austen’s Emma. Ania Khurana is a spoilt, rich 25-year-old living in a luxurious Delhi mansion. She knows everyone who is anyone in the city but she’s bored and in need of entertainment. Following in Emma Wo o d hous e’s matchmaking steps, Ania first finds a husband for her spinster aunt, then sets her sights on doing the same for her friend Dimple, only to find that the path of true love doesn’t always run smooth.

HiIndia Newsdesk India on Tuesday slipped to fourth position in the World Test Championship rankings after their 227-run defeat to England in the opening Test in Chennai as the visitors kept alive their hopes of making the final of the inaugural event. Blaming SG ball, wicket, toss for defeat to England would be barking up wrong tree: Bishan Bedi The stitched-by-hand Sanspareils Greenlands (SG) ball, used for Test matches in India, is under scrutiny after the first Test as players have complained about the stitches on the seam coming off. HiIndia Newsdesk The SG ball, which has been put under scrutiny following India’s defeat to England in the 1st Test this week, is not one of the factors the Indian players should look at, said former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi. He tweeted: “I missed out on Indn debacle yesterday..which was always on cards..but to ‘blame’ the SG ball or the wicket or the toss would be barking up the wrong tree-regrouping is as much the need as appreciating English determination to grind & win-also never underestimate any opposition!”
Serena, Thiem progress, Andreescu knocked out HiIndia Newsdesk Serena Williams overcame a spirited Nina Stojanovic 6-3 6-0 on a sun-drenched Rod Laver Arena to reach the third round of the Australian Open for the 19th time on Wednesday. Munita, daughter of construction labourer, breaks under-20 race walk record Each time race walker Munita Prajapati finishes on the podium, the 19 -year-old knows she is not only inching closer to fulfilling her dreams of competing in the Olympics someday but is also a step closer to helping her family escape poverty. The wiry race walker from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district hogged the limelight on the fourth day of the junior nationals in Guwahati, winning the (U-20) 10,000m race walk event and breaking the national mark in the progress. Munita clocked 47:53.58 s to erase the Reshma Patel’s 48:25.90s record, which was
achieved just last month at the Junior Federation Cup in Bhopal. The daughter of a construction labourer father and a homemaker mother has also earned the distinction of becoming the first woman walker to clock a sub-48 minute time in the 10,000m race walk in the U-20 category. Munita had already booked a spot for the World Juniors to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in August by clocking just one second within the 50:30seconds standard at the race walking nationals in February last year.
Joe Root will probably break all batting records of England: Nasser Hussain HiIndia Newsdesk
Former England captain Nasser Hussain feels incumbent Joe Root is “arguably” the country’s best ever player of spin and can break all the Test batting records accumulated by the nation’s batsmen Root struck 218 in England’s first innings on a spin-friendly pitch to lead his side to a 227-run win over India in the first Test in Chennai on Tuesday. “Root sure is one of England’s greats. He will probably end up breaking all records, he will probably go past Sir Alastair Cook’s 161 Test matches and probably tally of runs as well,” Hussain wrote in his column. “He is in great nick, only 30 years old, and if you did a list of all-time England batting greats – the ones I have seen anyway – you’d have to have Root with Cook, Graham Gooch and Kevin Pietersen.

Don’t Underestimate the Power of a
Walk
Walking is one of the simplest and most strategic things you can do for yourself. It takes little preparation, minimal effort, no special equipment, and it can contract or expand to fit the exact amount of time you have available. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a single bout of moderate-to vigorous activity (including walking) can improve our sleep, thinking, and learning, while reducing symptoms of anxiety. When we go for a walk, we perform better on tests of memory and attention; our brain cells build new connections, staving off the usual withering of brain tissue that comes with age; we can actively change the pace of our thoughts by deliberately walking more briskly or by slowing down; and our attention is left to meander and observe, helping us generate new ideas and to have strokes of insight
we know that we can walk for exercise and for transportation. And here are five additional ways to walk with purpose: 1. Walk for perspective These are trying times. The global pandemic has robbed so many of us of so much, and yet, most of us can still find perspective in the struggle. On days when I need some perspective, I’ll stroll while looking at the sun, the trees, or the water. Those views remind me to reflect on the expanse of the universe, to appreciate the beauty of nature, and prompt me to consider how much world there still is for me to explore (when it’s safe to do so). 2. Walk for connection. While you can walk alone, you don’t have to. And these days, walking is one of the safer activities available to us. Before I moved from New York to North Carolina, I had a standing Sunday walk with my neighbor Leslie. And now, despite being almost 600 miles apart, we still have our Sunday
morning walks — just over the phone. Invite a friend or family member to join you — in person when it’s doable, safe, and responsible — and over the phone when it isn’t. 3. Walk for learning. As much as I like to clear my mind, I also like to fill it with new and useful information. I might walk while listening to a podcast or an audio book, or even the recording of a webinar I signed up for but wasn’t able to attend. Or I might take some photos with my phone of a tree or an animal I can’t identify (which, as a native Manhattanite, are most trees and animals), and look it up when I get home. 4. Walk for gratitude. As someone who has experienced both chronic and acute back pain, I often walk with a focus on how lucky I feel to be able to walk — and the relief of being pain-free. I will focus on the gift of feeling safe (most of the time) as a woman walking alone. Or that I have a clean, hot shower waiting for me at the end of my walk. Or I might even focus on the gift of being alive right now, when so many have died. 5. Walk for productivity. Sometimes I’ll arrange a coaching call with a client who has also committed to walk and talk. Or I might schedule a networking call with a client who is walking, too. I am also productive when I walk, and sometimes dictate brainstorming ideas, or even a new article, into my phone’s voice recorder. When I come home, I have something I can cross off my to-do list, in addition to that day’s walk. And sometimes, I have to let go of my goals and let the walk’s purpose reveal itself to me. This happens most often when I’m walking with my rescue dog Nash, and she wants to follow a squirrel.

Twitter India’s public policy head resigns Twitter India’s public policy head Mahima Kaul has resigned from her post citing personal reasons, a senior executive of the social media firm confirmed on Saturday. The job listing has been made public on Twitter’s website. “At the start of this year, Mahima Kaul decided to step down from her role as Twitter Public Policy Director for India and South Asia to take a well-deserved break. It’s a loss for all of us at Twitter, but after more than five years in the role we respect her desire to focus on the most important people and relationships in her personal life. Mahima will continue in her role till the end of March and will support the transition,” Twitter global policy head Monique Meche said in a statement. News of Kaul’s resignation comes at a controversial time for the website, which came under fire from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for “violating Indian law” by not taking down tweets related to “farmers genocide”. Meity sent Twitter a sternly worded notice, threatening the company with penal consequences if over 250 accounts and posts that were flagged by the government weren’t blocked.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, while speaking on the private audio-based social media app Clubhouse, talked about how virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) can widen the scope for remote work. "We should be teleporting, not transporting, ourselves," Zuckerberg said, adding that VR and AR will allow people to live wherever they want, while appearing more present than video-chatting apps.
Voice: Alexa, Google | Wi-Fi: Yes | Apple AirPlay: Yes Painless to operate and with a range of comprehensive kit, S onos (from £199) still offers the best pound-for-pound wireless, multi-room system around. The user experience is smooth and stable, there's a wide product range, including subs and amps, together with AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect etc (though no hi-res audio) and an up-and-at'em sound. If you need somewhere to start we'd recommend the voice controlled and good value Sonos One. (The recent controversy over support for legacy products has been smoothed over to an extent but we'll be keeping an eye on it).
The baby monitor: Kodak Cherish C525 Video: 720p HD | Two-way talk: Yes | Alerts: Sound, motion With a 5in display for the parent unit and a video feed in the Kodak Smart Home app, infrared night vision and two-way talk, Kodak's Cherish C525 (£160) is our preferred baby monitor system. Response time for sound and motion alerts is good and the HD camera is sharp with a 85-degree viewing angle. Range is up to 4,000 square feet and you can save footage to an SD card as well as the cloud.

The remains of a pet dog were also found alongside the infant's remains. About twenty terracotta containers that may have once contained food and drink related to the funeral banquet were also found in the pit.

The 34-year-old health worker sat in ice up to his neck for two hours, 35 minutes and 43 seconds, that's around 40 minutes more than the previous record. He said he'll donate the money raised to charity.

Restaurant sells 24-karat gold-layered burgers for Rs.4,300 in Colombia A restaurant in Colombia is offering the king of delicacies - the gold plated burger! South China Morning Post reported that a restaurant in Bogota, Colombia has turned the world's favourite food item into luxurious cuisine, by adding gold - 24 carat of it, to be exact. The restaurant is offering a 24-carat burger to woo customers. The restaurant industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, with restaurants around the world laying off people, some shutting down, and many reporting unprecedented losses. A ban on public gatherings has turned dine-in restaurants into deliveryonly outlets. The luxurious dish is on the menu of a restaurant in the Colombian capital, and costs about $59 each. On the other hand, a regular burger costs only $11. 'The hamburger is put on it, the hamburger is closed, and then the gold foil goes on'', Maria Paula, the chef told South China Morning Post.

Manish Patel Re- Sentenced To 22 Years In Prison For Spiking Girlfriend’s Smoothie With Abortion Drug HI INDIA NEWS DESK APPLETON, WI – An Indian American man from Wisconsin, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison in 2018 for spiking his girlfriend’s smoothie with an abortion drug, will continue to spend at least two more decades in prison. Manishkumar Patel, of Outgamie, Wisconsin, was convicted in August 2018 of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. His girlfriend never drank the spiked beverage, but miscarried weeks later. Patel was resentenced in Outagamie County court in August 2020, after his initial one was thrown out in 2018. Patel will spend 21 more years in prison, said the local radio channel, adding that he will also spend seven years on probation, instead of the five and a half he was originally given, it said. Patel and his defense team filed a motion on Jan. 15, 2020, requesting

the court “vacate his sentence and grant him a new sentencing hearing.” Court documents, it reported, state Patel was re-sentenced twice, and wasn’t physically present at either hearing. Patel had been on the run since he was charged in 2007 and forfeited
a $750,000 bond. He was arrested in January 2017 in New York. Before he was sentenced, Patel said in court: “I have had plenty of time to think about what I did. I have no excuse or explanation for my actions.” As per report, after his arrest, Kumar was held on seven felony charges, including first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child, stalking, burglary, and jumping bail. Wisconsin has high consequences for harming a fetus. Since 1998, the state has ruled that “the killing of an ‘unborn child’ at any stage of pre-natal development is first-degree intentional homicide,” according to the state’s penal code. According to court records and media reports, Patel, who is married, began an affair with physician Darshana Patel in 2001. In 2004, the couple had a son. In 2006, Darshana again became
Pappas: Pay First Installment Cook County Property Taxes Through May 3 With No Late Fee HI INDIA NEWS DESK CHICAGO, IL Thanks to a change in the law, property owners have two extra months to pay their First Installment Cook County property tax bills without a late fee, through May 3, 2021, Treasurer Maria Pappas said today. “While we hope and pray for better days ahead, the pandemic continues to test us,” Pappas said. “This waiver of late fees offers some relief to the thousands of homeowners and business people who are struggling to pay their bills.” The Cook County Board of
Commissioners in November waived for two months the 1.5 percent per month late fee on all Tax Year 2020 property taxes. Taxpayers can pay the First Installment, due March 2, 2021, without a late fee through May 3, 2021. Late fees also will be waived for two months for the Second Installment, due later this year. Tax bills should start arriving in the mailboxes of the owners of about 1.8 million homes, businesses and land, Pappas said. Taxpayers should look at the front of the bill where a section
called “Taxing District Debt and Financial Data,” provides information for each taxing district, including: • Money owed by your taxing districts • Pension and health care amounts promised by your taxing districts • Amount of pension and health care shortage • Percentage of pension and health care costs taxing districts are able to pay Property owners can pay their bills by visiting cookcountytreasurer. com and entering their street address.
pregnant, but miscarried. The following year, she became pregnant again. Darshana Patel told police she became suspicious when she watched Manishkumar stir a smoothie at an ice cream store and then offered it to her. She noticed a powdery substance on the rim of the cup, and sent it off to a lab for testing. The substance turned out to be RU-486 – mifepristone – an abortion drug that is only administered by doctors. Darshana faked a stomach ache and did not ingest any of the drug-laced smoothie offered by her boyfriend, but miscarried nonetheless a few weeks later. She lodged a complaint against her boyfriend. Police then searched Manishkumar Patel’s house and found drugs used to terminate pregnancies. He told police they were abortion pills and confessed to giving his girlfriend one. Registration For H-1B Visa Lottery To Begin On March 9 HI INDIA NEWS DESK WASHINGTON, DC- The registration process for the H-1B visa application for the next fiscal year will begin on March 1 and the successful applicants through a computerised draw of lots would be notified by March 31, a federal agency has announced.
The notification by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Friday came a day after the Biden administration announced that it will continue with the traditional lottery system to issue the much sought-after work visa to foreign professionals. The USCIS announced that the
initial registration period for the fiscal year 2022 H-1B cap will open at noon Eastern on March 9 and run through noon March 25. The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.
Intel Sues Indian American Engineer Who Joined Microsoft Over Trade Secrets HI INDIA NEWS DESK PORTLAND, OR. – Intel is suing a former Oregon employee, alleging he took trade secrets when he left for Microsoft and used the information to gain an advantage in later business negotiations with Intel. Engineer Varun Gupta worked at Intel for 10 years before joining Microsoft in January 2020, according to the suit. He allegedly loaded Intel trade secrets onto two USB drives before quitting and then accessed them on his Microsoft-issued laptop, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. Gupta could not immediately be reached by the newspaper for comment. Intel and Microsoft are
increasingly rivals as Microsoft develops its own chip engineering capabilities. In this case, however, the litigation indicates Intel and Microsoft worked together to investigate. Intel’s complaint claims Gupta denied knowing the location of one USB drive, but later turned it over to Microsoft for analysis. “In his new role at Microsoft,
Gupta used the confidential information and trade secrets he misappropriated from Intel, deploying that information in head-to-head negotiations with Intel concerning customized product design and pricing for significant volumes of Xeon processors,” Intel alleged in a Feb. 5 filing. An internal investigation concluded that he had transferred 3,900 Intel documents to a USB drive, according to the complaint. Intel seeks unspecified damages in the suit, attorney fees and an injunction preventing Gupta from using or disclosing the material on the USB drive. It filed the suit Feb. 5 in U.S. District Court in Portland.
The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China. During the registration period, prospective petitioners and representatives will be able to fill out petitioner and beneficiary information and submit their registrations, the USCS said. The agency said if it receives enough registrations by March 25, it will randomly select registrations and send selection notifications by March 31. As mandated by Congress, USCIS can issue a maximum of 65,000 H-1B visas in a year. It can also issue another 20,000 H-1B visas to foreign students who have completed higher studies from a US university in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. The quick announcement by USCIS on the next year’s H-1B registration process comes a day after it said that it is delaying the implementation of the Trump administration policy of allocation of H-1B through a wage and skilled based process. The Trump era rule was scheduled to go into effect on March 9.
