mid the war in Ukraine, a video of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is being talked about online, which appears to show planned Russian invasion of Moldova. The video is from his address to the country’s security council on Tuesday and was posted online by the regime. Lukashenko is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the video, he is seen standing in front of a map, which shows Ukraine divided into four sections. According to New York Post, Lukashenko appeared to be talking about a planned attack from southern Ukraine into Moldova. Moldova is a former Soviet republic that borders Ukraine and Romania. The video further showed lines of attack, which has already been carried out by Russia. The Hill reported that the map showed troop movement plans and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, as well as targets in Moldova’s breakaway region of Transnistria. It also said that some of the attacks are yet to take place, including an incursion into Moldova from the port city of Odessa. The Post even quoted a Belarusian journalist Tadeusz Giczan, who talked about Moldova’s invasion plan. The video also strangely shows an inset map of the United States and Canada

China asked Russia to delay invasion of Ukraine until after Olympics, Western intel shows HiIndia Newsdesk
A Western intelligence report indicated that Chinese officials, in early February, requested that senior Russian officials wait until after the Beijing Olympics had finished before beginning an invasion into Ukraine, US officials said Wednesday. US officials broadly view the report as credible, but its particulars are open to interpretation, according to one source familiar with the intelligence. Although the request was made around the time that President Vladimir Putin visited Beijing for the opening ceremony of the Olympics — where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping — it is not clear from the report whether Putin addressed the Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, and Chinese President matter with Xi directly, the source said. Putin’s buildup on the Ukrainian border at the time had anticipated that Putin might delay any military action until after the Olympics to avoid angering China. After Putin and Xi’s meeting, Moscow and Beijing issued a joint statement declaring that their partnership had “no limits” and condemning NATO expansion — a key pillar of Putin’s justification for attacking Ukraine. That statement has elevated Western concerns about a burgeoning alliance between China and Russia. Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, said, “The claims mentioned in the relevant reports are speculations without any basis, and are intended to blame-shift and smear China.”

Washington: The World Bank on Wednesday announced it was halting all of its ongoing projects in Russia and Belarus in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Citing the “hostilities against the people of Ukraine,” the development lender said it “has stopped all its programs in Russia and Belarus with immediate effect.” The bank finances infrastructure projects and provides policy advice to members, but “has not approved any new loans to or investments in Russia since 2014. There has also been no new lending approved to Belarus since mid-2020.” With Russia, there are just four projects costing $370 million, which largely deal with policy issues.

Khan announced Monday he was opening a probe into alleged war crimes committed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week. Khan said he believed there was a “reasonable basis” to believe that crimes within the court’s jurisdiction had been committed.
Geneva: The UN said Wednesday that it had recorded nearly 230 civilian deaths in Ukraine, including 15 children, since Russia’s full-scale invasion began, warning that the actual count was likely far higher. The UN rights office, OHCHR, said it had registered 752 civilian casualties in Ukraine, including 227 people killed and 525 people wounded, between February 24, when Russia invaded, and midnight Tuesday. “OHCHR believes that real figures are considerably higher,” it said in a statement. This was particularly true in territory controlled by the Ukrainian government, it said, pointing out that “the receipt of information from some locations where intensive hostilities have been going on was delayed and many reports were still pending corroboration.”

Lucknow: 57 seats in eastern Uttar Pradesh, spread across 10 districts, will go to polls today in the sixth and secondlast phase of the 2022 UP election. Among the most prominent candidates is Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is contesting his first assembly poll from Gorakhpur.
With voting for 292 out of the state’s 403 assembly seats already over, the focus has shifted to the crucial Purvanchal region of the state, which has 111 seats - more than a quarter of the total. The Chief Minister being in the contest this time has spurred expectations of a big victory in all nine assembly seats under the Gorakhpur parliamentary constituency. The Samajwadi Party has pitted the wife of late Upendra Dutt Shukla, a former BJP leader, against the Chief Minister. Azad Samaj Party founder Chandrashekhar Azad is also in fray from the seat. The outcome in this phase will largely depend on the Other Backward Castes (OBCs) and Most Backward Castes (MBCs) who have influence on nearly 30 seats. Every year thousands of students from India go to Ukraine for medical education. A big reason for this is the facilities and cheap medical courses offered to the students in Ukraine and the recognition given to Ukrainian universities across the world. The cost of medical education in a private medical college in Ukraine is half as much as in India, and the process of admission is also much simpler than in India. There are currently 14 major medical colleges in Ukraine in which more than 18,000 Indian students are pursuing MBBS and BDS courses. Out of these, about 1,000 have returned home while efforts are on to bring back the rest. Sandeep Dhamija, director of one of the country’s renowned medical coaching institutes, says that compared to the number of seats reserved for medical course in Ukraine, few locals apply. This is the reason why medical seats are easily available to foreign students and Indian students get the benefit. Shirish Mehta, who has did his MBBS

kraine and Russia even issued public appeals for Delhi to take a clear stand. India chose to abstain from the vote but a careful reading of its statement suggests that it did go a step further and indirectly asked Moscow to respect international law. India talked about the importance of “the UN Charter, international law, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states”, adding that “all member states need to honour these principles in finding a constructive way forward”. But India’s decision to abstain raised questions, particularly in the West, over whether the world’s largest democracy should have taken a clearer stand.
Defence supplies matter Moreover, it’s hard for Delhi to overlook decades of history of diplomatic co-operation with Russia on several issues. Moscow has vetoed UNSC resolutions over disputed Kashmir in the past to help India keep it a bilateral issue. In this context, India appears to be following its famed strategy of non-alignment and promoting dialogue to resolve issues. Michael Kugelman, deputy director at think tank the Wilson Center, says India’s stand is not surprising as it’s consistent with its past strategy. He adds that Delhi doesn’t “seem comfortable with what is happening in Ukraine but it’s not likely to change its stand”. “It simply can’t afford to do so at the moment because of its defence and geopolitical needs,” he says. Though he adds that Delhi has chosen some strong words in the UNSC to show it’s not comfortable with the situation in Ukraine. India also has the tough task of trying to evacuate 20,000 citizens, mostly students, from Ukraine. Former Indian diplomat Anil Triguniyat, who served in Moscow and also in Libya where he oversaw the evacuation of Indian citizens when conflict broke out in 2011, says safety assurances are needed from all parties in a conflict to run a successful evacuation operation. “India can’t take a side at the risk of endangering the safety of its citizens. Moreover, it’s seeing the holistic picture which involves keeping channels open with everyone,” he adds. In that sense, India is in a unique position as it’s one of the few countries which has good relations both with Washington and Moscow. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister
Why India is not criticising Russia over invasion India has had to walk a diplomatic tightrope over Ukraine in the past few days as it tried to balance its ties with Moscow and the West.
India “has bad and worse options to pick from”
Former Indian diplomat JN Misra says India “has bad and worse options to pick from”. “One can’t tilt both ways at the same time. India has not named any country, which shows it won’t go against Moscow. India had to be subtle in picking a side and it has done that,” he adds. There are several reasons for India’s quest to find a diplomatic balance over Ukraine. The most important are India’s time-tested defence and diplomatic ties with Moscow. Russia continues to be India’s largest arms supplier even though its share has dropped to 49% from 70% due to India’s decision to diversify its portfolio and boost domestic defence manufacturing. Also, Russia is supplying equipment like the S-400 missile defence system which gives India crucial strategic deterrence against China and Pakistan, and that is the reason why it went ahead with the order despite threats of looming US sanctions.
India hasn’t criticised Russia directly but it’s not that India has turned a blind eye to the suffering of Ukrainians. It has adopted a balanced approach. It talked strongly about territorial integrity at the UNSC and it was clearly meant to highlight Ukraine’s plight Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has held talks with officials in Washington. Mr Modi has also held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Mr Triguniyat says India has done well in keeping diplomatic channels open with both sides. “India hasn’t criticised Russia directly but it’s not that India has turned a blind eye to the suffering of Ukrainians. It has adopted a balanced approach. It talked strongly about territorial integrity at the UNSC and it was clearly meant to highlight Ukraine’s plight,” he added. But if Washington and its European allies continue to impose severe sanctions on Russia, India may find it tough to continue doing business with Moscow. The US seems to understand India’s position at the moment but there are no guarantees it will continue to do so. When US President Joe Biden was recently asked about India’s stand, he didn’t give a definitive answer. “We are going to have consultations with India [over Ukraine]. We haven’t resolved that fully,” he said. The issue of sanctions over the purchase of the S-400s still loom. Washington had not promised any waiver even before Russia invaded Ukraine, and experts believe that the issue could become a bargaining chip between India and the US.

krainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the European Union to prove that it sides with Ukraine in its war with Russia a day after signing an official request to join the bloc. “We are fighting to be equal members of Europe,” Zelenskyy told an emergency session of the European Parliament on Tuesday via video link. “Do prove that you are with us. EU lawmakers, many wearing #standwithUkraine T-shirts bearing the Ukrainian flag, others with blue-and-yellow scarves or ribbons, gave Zelenskyy a standing ovation. “The EU will be much stronger with us. Without you, Ukraine will be lonesome,” Zelenskyy said, with Kyiv likely well aware that Ukraine’s membership bid will be long and difficult.EU legislators are expected to call Russia a “rogue state” and urge the 27-nation bloc to agree even tougher sanctions, according to a draft text they will vote on later on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The EU has taken unprecedented steps, including financing weapons deliveries to Ukraine, after Russia’s President Vladimir Putin launched a war on its neighbour last week. According to the draft resolution and amendments backed by the assembly’s main parties, legislators will call for the scope of sanctions to be broadened and to be “aimed at strategically weakening the Russian economy and industrial base, in particular, the military-industrial complex”. The European Parliament will also urge EU leaders to be tougher on oligarchs and officials close to the Russian leadership, restrict oil and gas imports from Russia, ban Russia and its ally Belarus entirely from the SWIFT bank messaging system, and to close all EU ports to Russian ships or ships headed to or from Russia. “The message from Europe is clear. We will stand up, we will not look away when those fighting in the street for our values stand down Putin’s war machine,” EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola said, speaking in front of the EU and Ukrainian flags. Russia has called its actions in Ukraine a “special operation”.

‘Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff don’t stop practising until they have perfected a step’: Dharmesh Yelande "People have always had misunderstandings about dance. There are parents and families that don’t like their kids pursuing [it]," said the choreographer
A
dancer by profession, Dharmesh Yelande — also known as ‘Dharmesh sir’ — has had quite a career, first as a dancer and dance teacher, to now as a choreographer and reality show judge. He says dancing is a gift that he has received from God, and there is much more to learn. The choreographer recently interacted with indianexpress.com, wherein he discussed his craft, what he feels about mentoring, feeling overwhelmed in actor Madhuri Dixit‘s presence, and why Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff are the best dancers in Bollywood.
At what age did you realise your passion for dance?
I believe my passion for dance is God-gifted.
Ever since I stood on my legs, I started dancing. When I was in 6th standard, I joined dance classes and that is the time I learnt the techniques of dancing. This made me realise that I wanted to take up dancing as my profession.
From a contestant on reality shows to now a judge, you have come a long way. How do you look back on your journey?
After you become a judge from a contestant, you have to think a lot in terms of how you will teach your students, based on the challenges they get every week. So, it is a whole new and different experience altogether. In the past 10 years, reality shows have grown a lot so you have to make sure you do something different each time, as a contestant, as well as a mentor.

90% Studying Medicine Abroad Fail To Clear Qualifiers In India: Minister

nion Minister Pralhad Joshi has controversially claimed that “90 per cent of Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear qualifying exams in India”. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, however, told Times of India that this is “not the right time to debate why students are moving out to study medicine”. Those who get a medical degree abroad, have to pass the pass Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), to practice medicine in India. Mr Joshi’s comment comes as thousands of Indian students remain stranded in Ukraine, which is currently fighting a bitter war with invading troops of Russia. Seeking urgent help, the students are heard saying that they are not being allowed to board trains. They say they

How serious are Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threats? Despite President Putin’s statement on Russia’s nuclear alert, observers say it’s highly unlikely Moscow could actually start a nuclear war. But given Putin’s volatility, his threats can’t be taken lightly either.
A
Where will Putin stop? German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht from the Social Democratic Party (SPD) said on Monday that Putin’s threat amounted to posturing. “Nevertheless, we have witnessed how unpredictable Putin is and that’s why we have to be very vigilant right now,” Lambrecht told German public radio Deutschlandfunk. Finaud makes the same point. The proliferation expert said he was glad to see that the US didn’t respond “tit-for-tat” by raising their alert level as well, but rather showed a “fairly moderate” reaction. Behavior like this shows how to prevent further escalation, he said.
senior US Defense Department official said in a briefing on Sunday that Putin invoking Russia’s nuclear capability was “not only an unnecessary step for him to take but an escalatory one.” And NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called the order “irresponsible,” telling US broadcaster CNN that “this is dangerous rhetoric.” But there’s no clear understanding of what exactly the statement means in practical terms for Russia’s military strategy going forward. “It is still unclear what the increased alert involves,” Hans Kristensen, director of the nuclear information project at the Federation of American Scientists, wrote in an email to DW. “There have been speculations that it might involve increasing the readiness of the nuclear command and control system to be more ready to transmit a launch order. There have also been some reports of increased activity of the missile submarines, but it is unclear if that is beyond the normal.” The Kremlin has said that putting nuclear forces on higher alert was a step taken in reaction to statements from the West regarding possible confrontations between Russian and NATO troops. “Statements were made by various representatives at various levels on possible a l t e rc at i o n s o r e v e n collisions and clashes between NATO and Russia,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a press briefing on Monday. “We believe that such statements are absolutely unacceptable.”
Four cases in which Russia could use nuclear weapons Putin putting the Russian deterrence forces “into a special mode of combat service” is not, however, widely considered as merely one last step away from declaring nuclear war. Russia’s nuclear doctrine, which Putin himself approved as recently as 2020, states that the country would only resort to nuclear strikes in one of four cases:
When ballistic missiles were fired at Russia or an ally’s territory, when an enemy used nuclear weapons, in response to an attack on a Russian nuclear weapons site, or In response to an attack threatening the very existence of the Russian state. None of these is the case in the war against Ukraine. “If [Putin] really planned a nuclear attack, we would likely see dispersal of the mobile missiles on land and ordering all the submarines out to sea. We would also see arming of the bombers and activation of nuclear non-strategic forces,” Kristensen wrote. “A launch is highly unlikely unless Russia and NATO are in a direct military confrontation where Russia is losing.” And a nuclear attack on Ukraine, a country that is not part of the NATO alliance and does not have nuclear weapons itself, is viewed by experts as just as unlikely. “It wouldn’t make any sense at all,” Finaud pointed out. “If the goal is to take Ukraine, Russia doesn’t want to occupy a pile of radioactive debris.”

Pedestrians ran for safety as small arms fire and explosions erupted in the Obolonsky district in Kyiv’s north. Larger blasts could be heard in the city centre, where residents endured a first tense night under curfew and the sounds of bombing, news agency AFP reported. The Ukrainian ministry of defence said the clash had been provoked by “an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group”. The end of the pandemic? Where will I still need to wear a mask? Despite the change, masks will still be required on federal transportation, such as airplanes and trains, according to the Transportation Security Administration. That mask mandate is scheduled to expire March 18. “The mask requirement remains in place and we will continue to assess the duration of the requirement in consultation with CDC,” a TSA official told NBC News. What’s more, some places with particularly vulnerable people — hospitals, nursing homes, for example — may still require masking.
COVID-19 cases have fallen significantly in recent weeks, following record highs driven by the omicron variant. The U.S. is averaging about 75,000 cases per day, down 65% from two weeks prior, according to NBC News’ tally. But a relaxation of mask guidance “doesn’t mean that this is the end,” said Bill Hanage, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “The virus is still going to be here. It is still going to pose a risk to people, and it’s probably going to get worse again in the fall and winter,” he said. One unknown is whether a new variant will pop up, perhaps even more transmissible than omicron or more virulent than delta. The omicron variant took over as the
dominant strain within weeks of its discovery. A subtype of omicron, called BA.2, was detected in late January, sparking fears that the changes omicron went through might make it even more contagious. However, the prevalence of BA.2 has not risen dramatically so far, according to CDC data. “We will have to remain alert globally to the possibility of a new variant occurring somewhere in the world coming here,” Schaffner said. “But I think we can move into a new normal.” Walensky noted that guidance could still change in the future. “We want to give people a break from things like mask wearing when levels are low, and then have the ability to reach for them again should things get worse in the future,” she said.
Tips to keep your feet healthy Constant use of heels can cause plantar fasciitis and hip, knee, back and foot pain

ur feet bear our weight from the time we start walking; the more we weigh, the more stress and strain the feet are subjected to. Feet are efficiently constructed. They can withstand the rigours of life and activity even though each foot has more than 100 tendons, ligaments and muscles, 26 bones and 33 joints, all loosely held together and in constant motion. Any of these moving parts can become injured or displaced. We tend to start damaging our feet inadvertently early in life. Children may be provided footwear that is too big so that their feet “grow” into them. This damages the feet since they slide back and forth while walking. Sometimes,
Constant use of heels can cause plantar fasciitis and hip, knee, back and foot pain. Even worse, since balance is not perfect, it can result in falls, sprains and fractures. the shoe store salesman convinces us that tight shoes will loosen and become comfortable after a few days’ use. This is far from true. As the feet are cramped in, they begin to pain. Corns and calluses develop. After prolonged use, the toes may become deformed. High-heeled shoes are in fashion; sometimes even children wear them. Heels alter the standing posture as well as the gait. There is a change in the alignment of the hip and knees. The toes are pushed forward and cramped together. The plantar fascia situated underneath the foot becomes shortened and damaged. In short, constant use of heels can cause plantar fasciitis and hip, knee, back and foot pain. Even worse, since balance is not perfect, it can result in falls, sprains and fractures. Children should not be given heels before they are 14-16 years, that is, till their feet stop growing. Shoes should be purchased at the end of the day as feet tend to get slightly swollen by that time. Shoes or slippers should be tried on both feet as they may vary slightly in size. One should walk a few steps to make sure that the footwear is comfortable.

Photographer-model-stylist Tanya Ravichandran is a master of many trades The 20-year-old goes through the process of mood-boarding, conceptualising a shoot, sourcing from brands, photographing and modelling all by herself
T
anya Ravichandran kick-started her photography career at the precocious age of 11. By the time she was 15, she was shooting portfolio work for models placed in top agencies, editorials for magazines, and campaigns for clothing brands. For the U.S.-based Ravichandran, photography has never been about owning the best equipment; she is far more concerned with compositions and understanding how her art can benefit from
strong collaboration between photographers, make-up artists, stylists and models. The 20-year-old finds that she is able to decisively determine how independent aspects of a shoot are executed as a result of having taken on photography at such a young age. When she initially got into modeling, the photographer’s lens—with which she looked at the world— helped her visualise how she wanted to be perceived on the other side of the camera.

How to start meditating—and actually stick to it
A comforting vegan onepot recipe that counts for 3 of your 5-a-day! You can’t go wrong with this iron-rich, low-fat, lowcalorie supper.
If you’re quiet and focused on your breath, congratulations: You’re already practicing silent — or unguided — meditation. If that’s working for you, keep it up. But many beginners appreciate having their hand held (metaphorically) through guided meditation, in which a teacher leads you through the session. There are hundreds of techniques to choose from, so it’s important to find a guide and practice that resonate with you. Some common types of meditation include visualisation (in which you focus on a mental image, like a stream of sunlight hitting your body), mantra (setting an intention by way of repeating a word, like “abundance,” or a phrase), and body scan (becoming aware of each part of your body as you perform a “self- scan” from head to toe). Many practitioners combine elements of different techniques, especially when designing meditations in pursuit of a particular goal, like better sleep or sharper focus. An easy way to parse out what works for you is by downloading an app. Here, a few of our favourites.
1 red chilli, finely chopped
Calm
1½ tsp ground turmeric
Whether you’re a One Direction stan or a basketball fan, the Calm app has something for you. Harry Styles and LeBron James are just two of the many celebrities who have lent their voices to the app’s sleep-time stories and courses on mental fitness. Calm also offers simple exercises (like the aforementioned “bubble”) to turn to when you’re feeling
The best time to meditate
You really shouldn’t check social media before meditating for the same reason you should avoid it before bed. “Checking your email, scanning the news, or glancing at your to-do list forces the mind into a beta brain wave state [a term used in neuroscience],” says Morris. “That is useful for judgment and problem-solving tasks, but also characterised by [states of mind such as] anxiety and hyperactivity, which are not conducive to meditation.” First thing in the morning — before you’ve been bombarded with the news of the day — is an ideal time to practice, says Morris.
Ingredients 1 tbsp sesame oil 1 red onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, crushed thumb-sized piece ginger, peeled and finely chopped
1½ tsp ground cumin 2 sweet potatoes (about 400g/14oz), cut into even chunks 250g red split lentils 600ml vegetable stock 80g bag of spinach 4 spring onions, sliced on the diagonal, to serve ½ small pack of Thai basil, leaves torn, to serve
Method STEP 1 Heat 1 tbsp sesame oil in a wide-based pan with a tight-fitting lid. STEP 2 Add 1 finely chopped red onion and cook over a low heat for 10 mins, stirring occasionally, until softened. STEP 3 Add 1 crushed garlic clove, a finely chopped thumb-sized piece of ginger and 1 finely chopped red chilli, cook for 1 min, then add 1½ tsp ground turmeric and 1½ tsp ground cumin and cook for 1 min more. STEP 4 Turn up the heat to medium, add 2 sweet potatoes, cut into even chunks, and stir everything together so the potato is coated in the spice mixture. STEP 5 Tip in 250g red split lentils, 600ml vegetable stock and some seasoning. STEP 6 Bring the liquid to the boil, then reduce the heat, cover and cook for 20 mins until the lentils are tender and the potato is just holding its shape. STEP 7 Taste and adjust the seasoning, then gently stir in the 80g spinach. Once wilted, top with the 4 diagonally sliced spring onions and ½ small pack torn basil leaves to serve. STEP 8 Alternatively, allow to cool completely, then divide between airtight containers and store in the fridge for a healthy lunchbox.

US President Joe Biden has told Congress that Vladimir Putin badly misjudged how the West would hit back once he invaded Ukraine. The Russian invaders have fired rockets this afternoon, March 1, at the Kyiv TV tower (Dorohozhytsi) in an apparent attempt to silence Ukraine’s TV channels. Shortly before this Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov warned that Russia is planning to disconnect Ukraine’s communication channels and launch a psychological attack. In a Facebook post, he didn’t specify if this would entail mobile phone networks and/or internet connections. “According to available data, the Russian occupiers are preparing to launch a largescale information and psychological operation in the near future,” he said. More available here. Reznikov added that Moscow’s “goal is to break the resistance of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian army with the help of lies. Initially, they plan to disconnect communication.” After communication channels are unplugged, “there will be a lot of fake reports that the Ukrainian military-political leadership has agreed to surrender,” the defense minister said.

Beijing: China on Thursday called for restraint on all sides after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an attack on Ukraine, while saying the military operation should not be described as an “invasion”. China is closely watching the latest situation, and we call on all parties to maintain restraint and prevent the situation from getting out of control,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing where she was repeatedly asked if Beijing condemned the actions. Hua on Thursday refused to call the military action an “invasion”, labelling the term “prejudiced”, and dodged questions on whether China was in contact with Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

India calls for immediate de-escalation
If Modi ji Speaks To Putin, He’ll Respond”: Ukraine Envoy To India
Ukraine Envoy Igor Polikha
UKRAINE CRISIS
situation may get out of control, Mr Polikha said, “Modi ji is one of the most powerful, respected world leaders. You have a privileged, strategic relation with Russia. If Modiji speaks to Putin we are hopeful he’ll respond”. “India should be much more actively engaged, given the privileged relation India has with Russia. Not just for our safety, but of your own citizen’s safety too, we need intervention of India,” he said, adding, “We do not want protocol statements, it means nothing. We need support from the whole world”. According to estimates, more than 15,000 Indians are currently living in Ukraine.
India called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions between Russia and Ukraine and cautioned that the situation is in danger of spiraling into a major crisis, just as Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his decision to launch a ‘military operation’ in eastern Ukraine. The 15-nation UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Ukraine late Wednesday night, the second meeting this week and the fourth since January 31 as tensions escalated between Russia and Ukraine.
