Four people have been killed in a shooting spree at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police say.

Officers confirmed that the suspected shooter, who was armed with a rifle and a handgun, was also dead. Police arrived at the scene on Wednesday afternoon at St Francis Hospital in three minutes - which they say ensured the death toll wasn’t higher. Multiple injuries had also been confirmed, officials added. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Deputy Police Chief Eric Dalgleish said: “Right now we have four civilians that are dead, and one shooter that is dead.” He said the shooter, who has not yet been identified, sustained fatal gunshot wounds which were believed to have been self-inflicted. The suspect “had one long gun and one hand gun on the scene at the time”, he said. No information was available about a possible motivation for the attack.
K-Pop Group Meets Joe Biden, Discusses Anti-Asian Hate Crimes
A US jury has found Amber Heard defamed ex-husband Johnny Depp with an article in which she claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse. Jurors awarded Mr Depp - who denied abusing Ms Heard - $15m (£12m) in compensatory and punitive damages. Ms Heard, 36, won one of three counter-claims against Mr Depp, 58, and was awarded $2m in compensatory damages. The Hollywood actors, who divorced in 2017, presented warring versions during the trial of their doomed relationship. Over six weeks, the court in Fairfax, Virginia, heard tawdry details of Mr Depp and Ms Heard’s volatile marriage, and its unhappy ending.

A federal judge gave his final blessing Wednesday to full freedom for John Hinckley, the man who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981, capping a four-decade journey through the court system for the once mentally ill Hinckley. U.S. District Court Judge Paul L. Friedman said in September that he would free Hinckley from all remaining restrictions on June 15 as long as Hinckley continued to do well living in the community in Virginia as he has for years. At a hearing Wednesday in Washington which Hinckley did not attend, Friedman noted Hinckley has continued to do well, and the judge made no changes to his plans for full freedom from court oversight.

Korean Pop group BTS today met US President Joe Biden in the White House. President Biden thanked the supergroup for stopping by the White House. “Thanks for stopping by the White House,” Biden posted on his official Twitter along with a photo with the K-pop band. The White House praised BTS’s floppy haired, stylish stars as “youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world.” Band members, all in their 20s and who
frequently appear wearing earrings and lipstick, have given a voice worldwide to a generation comfortable with gender fluidity. They are credited with generating billions for the South Korean economy, and their label enjoyed a surge in profits despite holding fewer concerts during the pandemic. Biden, who at 79 is the oldest person to become president, has often reached out to young celebrities and social media influencers to try and inject some glamor into his team’s messaging on social and health issues.
US to seek new UN sanctions if North Korea holds nuke test
The US will send Ukraine advanced rocket systems and munitions as part of a new $700 million package of military equipment intended to help the Ukrainians fight back against the Russian invasion of their country, President Biden and White House officials said on Tuesday. He said the delivery of the advanced weapons would enable Ukraine to “fight on the battlefield and be in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table”.

North Korea to conduct its first nuclear test in nearly five years, say South Korea, US and Japan.
The United States has said it will push for additional sanctions on North Korea if it conducts a new nuclear test explosion. US, South Korean and Japanese officials have said North Korea could soon conduct its first nuclear test in nearly five years. On Thursday, China and Russia vetoed a UN resolution sponsored by the United States that would have imposed tough new sanctions on North Korea for a spate of launches of
intercontinental ballistic missiles that can be used to deliver nuclear warheads. The vote in the 15-member Security Council was 13-2 and marked the first serious division among the five vetowielding permanent members over a North Korea sanctions resolution. US Ambassador Linda ThomasGreenfield was asked Tuesday whether the US would seek new sanctions if the North conducted another nuclear test. “We absolutely will,” she said.

Shanghai lockdown: China eases Covid restrictions after two months HiIndia Newsdesk
The Chinese city of Shanghai, the country’s economic centre and a global trade hub, has eased Covid curbs after a two-month lockdown.
HiIndia Newsdesk
Moscow attacked the Azot factory from a plane, resulting in the release of toxic substances Russian forces on Wednesday pressed closer to the centre of an industrial city in a drive to grab a swathe of eastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s General Staff said Russian forces, now 98 days into their invasion, were pounding infrastructure in eastern and southern regions including the symbolically important city of Sievierodonetsk, which they entered on May 27. It has been the main focus of their ground offensive for several weeks. Sievierodonetsk, a Soviet-era city, houses a large chemical factory. According to local governor Serhiy Gaidai, a Russian airstrike hit the plant on Tuesday, blowing up a tank of toxic nitric acid and releasing a plume of pink smoke.
At midnight local time (16:00 GMT Tuesday), restrictions were relaxed to allow most people to move freely around the city of some 25 million people. But at least 650,000 residents will remain confined to their homes.China’s overall policy of “zero Covid” remains in place and people catching Covid face quarantine or hospital. Their close contacts also face the prospect of removal to quarantine and the area immediately around where they live being locked down again. “This is a day that we dreamed of for a very long time,” Shanghai government spokeswoman Yin Xin told reporters. “Everyone has sacrificed a lot. This day has been hard-won and we need to cherish and protect it, and welcome back the Shanghai we are familiar with and missed.” But new rules have been introduced, with residents required to show a green health code on their smartphone to leave their residential compounds
and to enter most places. Those who want to use public transport or enter banks or malls must have a negative PCR test certificate valid in the last 72 hours. And restrictions on leaving Shanghai remain, with anyone travelling to another city facing quarantine of seven to 14 days upon their return. Cinemas, museums and gyms remain closed. Most children will also not return to face-to-face schooling. But the rules did little to temper the relief people felt. Cheers and sounds of jubilation rose as the clock struck midnight on Tuesday, signalling the end of the lockdown. Groups of Shanghai residents gathered on street corners, singing and toasting with drinks as they welcomed their newfound freedom.
Iran lied about banned nuclear activity using stolen documents - Israel
Platinum Jubilee:
Queen portrait released as UK set for celebrations HiIndia Newsdesk
An official photograph of the Queen has been released ahead of celebrations to mark her Platinum Jubilee. The portrait, by Ranald Mackechnie, was taken in the Victoria Vestibule at Windsor Castle earlier this year. In her Jubilee message the monarch thanked people for organising events to celebrate her milestone, saying “many happy memories” would be created. Millions are gearing up for street parties to mark 70 years on the throne over the four-day bank holiday weekend. There are also a series of official events starting with Thursday’s Trooping of the Colour parade and ending on Sunday with a Jubilee Pageant through London. The specially commissioned portrait pictures show the Queen looking contented, sitting on a cushioned window seat at the castle which has been her main home for the last couple of years.

Lanka seeks $3 billion from IMF
HiIndia Newsdesk
Sri Lanka is in talks with the IMF to borrow at least $3 billion via the lender’s extended fund facility (EEF), sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. The island state’s government expects another round of technical talks with the IMF in early June and hopes to reach to a staff-level agreement as soon as the end of this month, two of the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity. A spokesperson for the IMF didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
In a video, Naftali Bennett said Iran “lied to the world and Iran is lying to the world again right now.” He showed what he said were copies of Iran’s “deception plan”, including handwritten notes in Persian which said Iran needed to prepare a “cover story”. Iran denies it had a secret programme, saying Israel forged the alleged proof. It has not yet responded to Mr Bennett’s claims. The prime minister’s declaration comes ahead of a meeting next week where International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi is due to present a report on its probe into unexplained nuclear material found at three undeclared sites in Iran. The report says “Iran has not provided explanations that are technically credible in relation to the Agency’s findings at those locations,” according to Reuters news agency, which has seen the report. Iran’s foreign ministry said the report was “not fair and balanced”.

‘The idea is to make it look gruesome’ The Moose Wala killing has thrown the spotlight on the deadly gang wars of northern India. “These gangsters mostly use rifles to carry out high-profile murders. The Bishnoi gang is known to shower bullets at the target. They carry out these killings for two motives — eliminating rival gang members, and to send a message to potential rivals and others from whom they want to extort money. The idea is to make it look gruesome. They then claim responsibility on social media to establish their power,” the Delhi Police source said. While Vicky Middukhera was shot dead in Mohali last year, Gurlal Brar was killed in Chandigarh 2020, with the Bambiha gang claiming responsibility. Ankit Bhadu was shot dead in an encounter in 2019. When asked if Moose Wala’s name had come up in the investigations into the murders of Middukhera and Brar, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) V.K. Bhawra declined to comment. However, the Punjab Police Sunday said that preliminary investigations pointed to Moose Wala’s murder being a result of inter-gang rivalry. DGP Bhawra also said Sunday that Goldy Brar and the Lawrence Bishnoi Group were involved in the killing. The Punjab Police have registered an FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including for murder and attempt to murder, and the Arms Act.
Who is Goldy Brar? What is his connection to Lawrence Bishnoi gang? Satinder Singh, alias Goldy Brar, is a key associate of Lawrence Bishnoi and is wanted in connection with over 50 serious crimes, including murder and extortion, a Delhi Police source said. A native of Faridkot in Punjab, Brar has been living in Canada for at least four years, he added. According to police sources, Goldy Brar’s distant location is leveraged by the Lawrence Bishnoi group, who use him as an intermediary for their communications. “The gang members know that normal calls and forms of communication will be intercepted and tracked down to them. So, they contact Brar, who is in Canada, who in turn then passes on the message to other gang members. Intercepting these calls becomes a hurdle for investigating agencies since they are routed from servers outside India,” the Delhi Police source said. According to the Delhi Police source, Brar and Bishnoi met during their time in Panjab University, when they were both involved in student politics. “Most of these gangsters met during their days of student activism. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang started with Bishnoi, his friends, and cousins… and the network grew over time,” the source said. In one of the more high-profile crimes linked to the gang, Bishnoi’s associate Sampat Nehra allegedly issued threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 2018 over the blackbuck case. A former president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), he has more than 20 cases registered against him, including those pertaining to allegations of attempt to murder, extortion, and carjacking. Hailing from Faridkot in Punjab, Bishnoi has been in jail since 2017 — first in Ajmer and currently in Tihar — but still runs his gang from behind bars, sources said. Over the last few years, the fierce turf battle between the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs has reportedly led to several shootings across Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.
Moose Wala was ‘receiving threats’ before shooting In his statement to the police, Sidhu Moose Wala’s father Balkaur Singh reportedly claimed that his son would often receive threat and extortion calls from members of the Lawrence Bishnoi group. Speaking to ThePrint, a friend of Moose Wala — who contested the 2022 Punjab assembly election — also said that the slain singer had received calls demanding money from the Lawrence Bishnoi group. “[Moose Wala] is a world-famous singer, a politician, so they made calls to extort money. He isn’t associated with any gang,” the friend said. While the Punjab Police have not officially commented on Moose Wala’s association with any criminal organisation, a source in the force said his killing was “a suspected case of gang rivalry”. According to sources in the Punjab Police, Moose Wala was shot at by six men in two cars, using automatic weapons, when he was on his way to Jawaharke village with his cousins. The assailants waylaid Moose Wala’s car and fired at him, the Punjab Police source said. They are yet to be identified. “CCTV footage showed Moose Wala’s vehicle being followed by two cars from a distance. He was travelling without his personal security and had also not gone in his bullet proof vehicle. He was shot at multiple times. Over 40 bullets were fired,” the source added.

eetanjali Shree has become the first Indian writer to win the International Booker Prize. Her novel Tomb of Sand, a family saga set in the shadow of the partition of India, follows an 80-year-old woman after the death of her husband. It was the first Hindi-language book to be shortlisted for the £50,000 prize. “I never dreamt of the Booker, I never thought I could,” Ms Shree said. “What a huge recognition. I’m amazed, delighted, honoured and humbled.” In her acceptance speech, quoted by the Press Trust of India, she said being the first book in Hindi to win the prize felt good. “Behind me and this book lies a rich and flourishing literary tradition in Hindi, and in other South Asian languages. World literature will be the richer for knowing some of the finest writers in these languages,” she said. Frank Wynne, the chair of judges, said the panel were “captivated by the power, the poignancy and the playfulness” of her novel. “This is a luminous novel of India and partition, but one whose spellbinding brio and fierce compassion weaves youth and age, male and female, family and nation into a kaleidoscopic whole,”

elcome to the sweetest corner of the internet in the Indian subcontinent - the YouTube comment section of Coke Studio Pakistan. Coke Studio - Pakistan’s longestrunning music show, produced by beverage giant Coca-Cola - features studio-recorded performances by some of the country’s most famous artists. The music ranges from quirky pop and soul-stirring qawwali to rap - all of which draw heavily from folk traditions and classical poetry. The series was a roaring success in Pakistan from the beginning but what took its creators by surprise was its enduring popularity in India. The two countries have long shared a hostile relationship which has often impeded cultural exchanges, despite their shared history. “Even Coke Studio Pakistan never imagined that it would get this much love from India - so much so that it became more successful than India’s own Coke Studio!” popular Indian composer Shantanu Moitra told the BBC. “I think that’s incredible.” Millions of Indians still hum along to legendary Pakistani singers such as Ghulam Ali and Abida Parveen. Generations of Pakistanis have grown up on a steady diet of Indian films, with Bollywood movies breaking box-office records there. Television soap operas from that country are hugely popular in India. Until a few years ago, artists from the two countries often collaborated on music and film projects. But when political hostilities migrated to the cultural arena, Bollywood dropped Pakistani actors and Pakistan banned Indian movies. “Indians are no strangers to fusion music. You look at songs composed by [Indian music director] RD Burman - he constantly brought jazz and Afro-funk beats, tunes and interludes and married them into traditional sounds,” she says. Moitra says it also offers hope of cultural ties reviving between India and Pakistan. “There are dark phases but there are also better phases and I think once that happens, artists will once again work together,” he says.

Neil Basu
London: Neil Basu, an Indian-origin British police officer, is said to be considering his legal options after he was reportedly overlooked for the post of director-general of Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA), equivalent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US. He told the UK’s Sunday Times newspaper: “I am disappointed in the way the process has concluded and will not be applying again. I will be seeking an explanation from the Home Office.” Basu has been known to have had honest differences with Johnson in the past. Priti Patel, who is home secretary, is identified as being against him; and it has been speculated ever since the positions of Scotland Yard chief and NCA DG fell vacant that she would oppose his candidature. In the case of the former, mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who has a say in the appointment, was keen to have Basu at the helm. But the British Indian apparently did not eventually apply for the commissioner’s thorny crown. Last week in a media interview Basu called on police chiefs in Britain to admit there is institutional racism in policing in the country. “We are guilty as charged,” he stated. He advocated that “positive discrimination” should be introduced to boost ethnic officers in the ranks.

ctor Sonu Sood, who is returning to the world of historical dramas after Jodha Akbar, says he was excited to essay the role of poet Chand Bardai in Samrat Prithviraj as he has grown up on the stories of warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan. Sood said he approached the drama, fronted by Akshay Kumar and directed by Chanakya actor-director Chandraprakash Dwivedi, with a sense of responsibility. “When a script like Samrat Prithviraj came to me, it excited me instantly as I have heard a lot of stories of Chand Bardai from my mother (late Saroj Sood). I was excited to bring those stories to the screen but I also felt a sense of responsibility. We have left no stone unturned to do justice to this role,” the 48-year-old actor said. “When we used to listen to stories of Chand Bardai, we would feel very inspired. I never thought I would get the opportunity to play Chand Bardai in a film. I wish my mother was alive to see this as she would have been able to see whether I did it correctly or not,” the actor said. Bardai, the court poet of Prithviraj Chauhan, is known for writing Prithviraj Raso, an epic poem that depicts the life and time of the famous king. “The way the film has shaped up, it will be very exciting for people to see the relationship, the friendship between Samrat Prithviraj and Chand Bardai, which is something that people have only heard or read but not seen. I hope when people see it, they can feel our relationship and friendship,” he added.

Akshay is all praises for his talented co-star as the superstar feels she is an extremely gifted actor who will dazzle on the big screen! He says, “Manushi is extremely gifted, she is a natural actor. A film like Prithviraj is not an easy debut for anyone. She is doing a historical where she is paying tribute to one of the most memorable personalities in the history of India, Princess Sanyogita. So, she is expected to have grace and also deliver a powerful performance on screen.
She has to bring to life what the princess stood for.” He adds, “I was taken aback by how prepared she was to do this role. She knew she had a responsibility towards the character and she has essayed Sanyogita beautifully. I would not say this about her if she didn’t deserve our compliments. She learnt in her first film what I learnt probably by my twenty-fifth film. You will know what I mean when you see her on screen. She is a talent to watch out for. For her to be this calm, composed and assured of her craft speaks volumes about her personality and her hunger to deliver on screen.” Prithviraj has been directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who is best known for directing the television epic Chanakya and the critically acclaimed film Pinjar. The film is set to release worldwide on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

It’s the most important thing in the world. Nothing matters without it— No amount of fame or money. Fitness also just isn’t about your physicality. It’s the balance between a healthy mind, body, and soul. As cliche as that sounds. It’s important to make it a lifestyle as opposed to a chore. NEW YORK, NY — Give us more class cutting in New York City’s public schools, said state lawmakers. A demand to slash city classroom sizes to 20 to 25 students is part of a deal struck in Albany that extends Mayor Eric Adams’ control over public schools for two years. But Adams isn’t happy with the potentially expensive mandate. He said while he said he supported smaller class sizes, the mandate could lead to cuts to counselors, social workers, after-school tutoring, school trips and other programs if it doesn’t include guaranteed funding, he warned. “There must also be a mechanism for altering or delaying the plan to reduce class sizes if the mandate is shown to severely adversely impact racial equity and the city’s fiscal health,” he said in a statement. Adams originally sought a four-year extension of mayoral control over the city’s schools — a move that received support from Gov. Kathy Hochul, as Politico.

Is power walking really better than regular walking?
work the shoulders and upper back while engaging the entire body and challenging balance and stability, which works the core.
What are the cardiovascular benefits of power walking and regular walking?
Regular walking allows you to set a comfortable pace. So if you’re new to working out, starting off with a regular walk can help you ease into physical movement and improve endurance without pushing yourself too hard. If you’re worried that you won’t be working hard enough, don’t be. Walking at any pace will still help you burn calories and improve your cardiovascular fitness — and you can always gradually increase the pace. Power walking demands more from our cardiovascular system. Because power walking requires more steps per minute, your heart rate will increase more than it would on a regular walk. This makes power walking a more intense cardiovascular workout that burns more calories than regular walking.
There’s a right time to dial up the intensity — and a time to slow things down.
What is better for me: power walking or regular walking?
There are certain circumstances where you will benefit from a power walk over a regular walk and vice versa. If you only have a short amount of time to squeeze in a workout, opt for a power walk. You’ll be able to burn more calories and tone your muscles in a shorter period of time with this form of walking. However, if you have a longer amount of time to exercise, going on a regular walk can be a relaxing way to burn calories and de-stress. When people tell me they are super stressed or anxious, I always recommend a regular, moderate-paced walk. Walking at a moderate pace still works the heart. Plus, you’ll be able to clear your mind and focus on yourself.
What is power walking?
So what is a power walk, exactly? Power walking entails moving at a quick speed and getting your arms involved. To get the most out of this workout, make sure to move your feet from heel to toe with each step, moving as quickly as you can. Pump your arms, keeping

Research has shown that taking more steps per minute, as one does while power walking, can help with insulin levels and body mass index. While power walking is a good way to burn calories, that doesn’t mean that there’s no room in your routine for a regular, moderate-paced walk. Here’s what you need to know to decide when to dial up the intensity — and when to slow things down. body, burning more calories and getting your heart rate up.

abductors, power walking also tones the glutes, shoulders and upper back. Regular walking is still a lower-body workout, but tends to help burn calories more than anything else. Power walking, on the other hand, helps burn calories while also toning your muscles more than a regular walk would. The more intense arm movements during power walking
If you enjoy your casual stroll through the neighborhood, but want to kick things up a notch, try alternating between regular walking and power walking. This means that you’d walk regularly, but for one block or one minute you’d add in a power walk. Pump your arms and take quicker steps. You’ll be walking faster and covering more ground. After that one minute or one block, slow down and go back to regular walking. You can add in power-walking intervals as frequently as you’d like.
How to get the best walking workout — whether you have 5 minutes or 40 5 minutes: Power walking or walking mediation
Power walking is all about speed and arm motion. If done correctly, power walking is a great way to squeeze in a quick calorie-burning workout when you only have a few minutes to spare. The most important aspect of power walking is making sure that with each step, you move from heel to toe while pumping your arms. Shorten your gait to take as many steps as you can; this will help maximize your calorie burn. You can power walk anywhere that’s convenient for you. If you don’t have enough time to
bundle up to brave the cold, power walk around your house!
20-30 minutes: Interval training
Interval walking uses short bursts of a quicker speed to help you burn calories and get your heart rate up — a great option for those trying to lose weight. For an effective interval walking workout, you’ll need at least 20-30 minutes to get the most out of the technique.
40+ minutes: Endurance training and mental health
If you have 40 minutes or more in your schedule, you have a few options to choose from. This is a perfect amount
of time to work on your endurance, meaning that you set a moderate, steady pace to maintain throughout your entire walk. Over time, you’ll find that this pace becomes more comfortable. Once this happens, you can increase your speed. Focusing on your mental health is another great option for a longer walk. For a meditative walk, focus on your body and breath with each step you take. Avoid ruminating about your todo list or other stressors; as thoughts come to mind, let them pass through and re-focus on your breath and moving your body.

Argentina win Finalissima, Rookies landing on podium defeat Italy 3-0 good sign for Indian hockey Messi gets 2 assists as Lautaro Martínez, Ángel Di María and Paulo Dybala get on the scoresheet.

Lautaro Martínez, Ángel Di María and Paulo Dybala scored to lead Argentina to a 3-0 victory over Italy on Wednesday in the first Finalissima meeting of the South American and European champions. The opener was created by Lionel Messi’s solo brilliance taking him past Giovanni Di Lorenzo and the Argentina captain squared for Martínez
to slot past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 28th minute. Martínez turned creator in firsthalf stoppage time by threading a pass through for Di María to chip Donnarumma, having got past Giorgio Chiellini. The 37-year-old Italy captain came off at halftime of his 117th and final international appearance. The win was wrapped up in the fourth minute of stoppage time with Messi again providing the assist — this time for the substitute Dybala to strike low into the net.

A third-string Indian side with 10 debutants, that was managed by a rookie coach – Sardar Singh – and began its campaign with an underwhelming draw and a morale-sapping defeat, somehow fought its way onto the podium at the Asia Cup. Led by captain Birendra Lakra, India
put up a solid defensive performance to defend a 1-0 lead for most of the match to beat Japan and win the bronze medal at the continental championship. Compared to the previous edition in 2017, when India won the title, this may seem like a drop in performance if taken at face value. But in reality, this will assume as much significance, if not more. After all, none of the players from the 33-men core group were part of this side. Instead, this was a hastily-formed team, comprising junior India internationals apart from some national team discards, others who had impressed at the national championships and a couple of retired stars who were forced to make a comeback.

“Coming Generations Will Talk About It”: Hardik Pandya On Gujarat Titans’ IPL Triumph

ive-time IPL winner Hardik Pandya on Sunday said his latest triumph, while leading first-timers Gujarat Titans, is something the coming generations will talk about. Hardik’s team capped off a dream campaign in its maiden season by lifting the Indian Premier League title with a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the final. “This title is going to be a special one because we talked about creating a legacy. The coming generations will talk about it,” Hardik said. “Everyone will remember this was the team who started this journey and to win the championship first year is very special.” The Gujarat Titans’ triumphant skipper said he knew he was going to bat at number four for the first-timers after they got done with the mega auction ahead of IPL-15. “When the auction finished, I knew I would have to bat at No. 4,” Hardik said at the presentation ceremony. Hardik has won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians. Gujarat’s highly-rated bowling attack, led by skipper Hardik (3/17) himself, limited a formidable Rajasthan Royals batting unit to 130 for nine after losing the toss.
Asked about his bowling, he said, focussing more on guiding his team with “Wanted to show at the right time what his calm and composed leadership. I’ve worked hard for. Putin Likely To Get Even More Dependent On India
There is likely to be a limit on how much China and India can realistically buy too. HiIndia Newsdesk
President Vladimir Putin may need to count even more on China and India should the European Union ban Russian oil, with few other takers in Asia able to process the type of crude Europe typically buys. EU leaders agreed to pursue a partial embargo on Russian crude oil shipped on sea, potentially costing Putin up to $10 billion a year in lost export revenue. Though that could eventually leave
more of Russia’s flagship Urals crude -- an oil brand that had been popular in Europe -- needing a new home, there will be limited buyers in Asia. That’s because the grade can’t easily be refined in large quantities in countries such as Sri Lanka and Indonesia that don’t have sophisticated processing and blending capabilities to handle the highly sulfuric type of oil, said traders. That could lead China and India, which do have refineries that can process Urals, to pick up extra barrels. With Shanghai emerging from its monthslong lockdown, Chinese state-owned and private refiners may have a renewed appetite to buy more from Russia, the traders said. However, there is likely to be a limit on how much China and India can realistically buy too, with the two countries already mopping up record amounts of Russian oil that’s steadily been shunned by Europe since the invasion of Ukraine.
