Her nomination, which would make her the current second Indian-American cabinet member alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, was sent to the Senate for confirmation on Wednesday, the White House said. The Senate on Tuesday cleared the first hurdle to passing a bipartisan measure aimed at keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous people, agreeing to take up a compromise bill whose enactment would break a yearslong stalemate over federal legislation to address gun violence. While the bill falls short of the sweeping gun control measures Democrats have long demanded, its approval would amount to the most significant action in decades to overhaul the nation’s gun laws. The 64-to-34 vote came just hours after Republicans and Democrats released the text of the legislation.
Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and actress Jerry Hall are getting a divorce, US media report. The divorce would be a fourth for Mr Murdoch, 91. Ms Hall, 65, was previously married to Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Representatives for Mr Murdoch and Ms Hall, who wed at a mansion in central London in 2016, are yet to comment. Their split comes as a surprise to those close to the family, according to the New York Times. That newspaper and the Washington Post cited anonymous sources with knowledge of the separation. Mr Murdoch - whose News Corporation empire controls major outlets including Fox News and the Wall Street Journal in the US, and The Sun and The Times in the UK - was previously said to have been devoting more time to his new wife.
Uvalde school shooting: Embattled police chief is put on leave A police chief accused of botching the response to the fatal shooting of 19 school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, has been put on leave. Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, head of the school district police force, has been blamed for law enforcement delays in confronting the gunman. Defending his actions, the 50-year-old has said he did not think he was the official in charge at the time. Public anger has risen as more details of the 24 May attack emerge. State lawmakers are investigating why police waited for more than an hour outside the Robb Elementary School classroom in which the assailant had barricaded himself before a team made entry.
San Francisco police say one man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on a commuter subway train One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on a San Francisco subway train Wednesday that ended in the city’s historically LGBTQ neighborhood just days before Pride celebrations, police said. The shooting occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on a commuter train as it pulled away from a residential station toward the station in the city’s Castro neighborhood. There, officers found two victims, one dead at the scene. The other person, a bystander, was taken to a hospital with an injured knee, said San Francisco Supervisor Myrna Melgar, whose district includes the residential Forest Hill station. She said witnesses reported three or four shots and a “heated verbal argument” between the suspect and deceased victim. She said the suspect ran out with other passengers when the train stopped. Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, who represents the Castro District, said the victim and suspect appeared to know each other.

Sofia, June 23 (IANS) Bulgaria’s coalition government led by Kiril Petkov was ousted in a no-confidence vote in Parliament here. In the 240-seat legislature, 123 deputies from the center-right GERB-UDF coalition (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria and Union of Democratic Forces), the centrist Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), the ultranationalist Revival party and the populist There Is Such A People (ITN) party voted against Petkov’s government, reports Xinhua news agency. The motion required absolute majority support. The no-confidence motion against the four-party coalition government was filed last on June 15 by GERB-UDF, the largest opposition force in Bulgaria’s Parliament with 59 seats.
two sides completed the disengagement process last year on the north and south banks of the Pangong lake and in the Gogra area. India has been consistently maintaining that peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are key to the overall development of the bilateral ties. On Rawat’s meeting with Wang, a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement quoted Wang as saying that China and India’s common interests far outweigh their differences, adding that the two sides should support rather than undermine each other, strengthen cooperation rather than guard against each other, and enhance mutual trust rather than be suspicious of each other.

The crisis on the island of 22 million is considered its worst in recent memory, but Wickremesinghe did not cite any specific new developments. His comments appeared intended to emphasise to critics and opposition lawmakers that he has inherited a difficult task that cannot be fixed quickly. The economy is foundering under the weight of heavy debts, lost tourism revenue and other effects of the pandemic, as well as surging costs for commodities.

Terrorists are planning to assassinate Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan and they have sought assistance from an assassin in Afghanistan to target him, the Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wing has warned, according to a media report on Tuesday. The CTD has directed all concerned agencies to take all possible measures for the security of the former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman in the wake of the threat alert, Urdu language newspaper ‘Jang’ reported. It said that the threat alert issued by CTD’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wing stated that “terrorists are planning to assassinate Imran Khan, for which they have sought assistance from an assassin in Afghanistan”. The paper said that the text of the threat alert has been shared with various forums, according to which an Afghan assassin has been given the responsibility to target Khan. Citing a senior police official, the paper said that the CTD issued the alert on June 18. However, there were orders to keep the threat a secret and prevent it from being leaked on social media, he said.
Ottawa, June 23 (IANS) Canada’s consumer inflation rose to 7.7 per cent year over year in May, the largest yearly increase since January 1983, authorities said. Statistics Canada said on Wednesday that the latest figure was also up from a 6.8 per cent gain in April, reports Xinhua news agency. The acceleration in May was largely due to higher prices for gasoline, which rose 12 per cent compared with -0.7 per cent in April, it added. According to the agency, excluding gasoline, the CPI rose 6.3 per cent year over year in May, after a 5.8 per cent increase in April. Price pressures continued to be broad-based, pinching the pocketbooks of Canadians and in some cases affecting their ability to meet day-to-day expenses. Higher prices for services, such as hotels and restaurants, also contributed to the increase.

”No Entry To Your House For 2.5 Years,” Rebel Writes To Uddhav Thackeray HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi: A day after Uddhav Thackeray’s emotional appeal to Shiv Sena rebels threatening to upend his leadership and the Maharashtra government, an MLA in the Eknath Shinde camp has written a lacerating letter accusing the Maharashtra Chief Minister for ”shutting his doors to them” and neglecting his own party leaders for years. Uddhav Thackeray, who has often been accused of inaccessibility by his MLAs, had yesterday said in a Facebook

He urged MLAs to come to him and say it to his face if they wanted him out as Chief Minister. But this courtesy was never extended in the past two-and-a-half years, rebel MLA Sanjay Shirsat wrote in his letter shared by Eknath Shinde.
The MLA also alleged that he and others were stopped from going to Ayodhya at the last minute, with their baggage already checked in at the Mumbai airport and their boarding about to start.

U
S President Joe Biden’s spokesperson Karine JeanPierre has left open the possibility that as a “straightshooter”, he may raise human rights issues concerning Muslims with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when they speak during the launch of the Middle East Quad in Israel next month. “He’s a straight-shooter, he has no problem talking to leaders about humanitarian rights, about freedoms, about the importance of democracy,” she said on Wednesday when a reporter asked at her daily briefing if Biden would take up with Modi the demolition of the houses of some Muslims linked to protests. “This is something that the President has done in the past,” she added. However, Jean-Pierre qualified the assertion by saying: “I can’t speak too clearly to what is on the agenda and what is their conversation going to be.” Repeatedly pressed by the reporter, she said: “I’m just saying the President a is a straight shooter a and speaks very frankly, and when it comes to

As some of the protests turned into riots,
houses connected to some Muslims who participated in the demonstrations have been demolished in several places in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh by officials who claimed that they were constructed illegally.
The BJP has suspended one of its spokespersons, Nupur Sharma, and expelled the party’s Delhi unit media head Naveen Jindal, who made the statements against the Prophet. While condemning their statements last week, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price had said: “We were glad to see that the party publicly condemns those offensive comments.” He said that the US engaged regularly at senior levels with the Indian government regarding “human rights concerns including freedom of religion or belief and we encourage India to promote respect for human rights”. The new Quad with India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the US to be known as I2U2 for the initials of the countries is scheduled to be inaugurated during Biden’s visit to Israel in the second week of July. Modi and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were to participate virtually, according to the White House. There’s a cloud over Israel’s representation as Prime Minister Naftali Bennet has lost parliamentary majority and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid is to take over as the interim Prime Minister pending elections to the Knesset.

Pro-Pakistan US lawmaker moves anti-India resolution in Congress YASHWANT RAJ
A
pro-Pakistan US lawmaker has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives calling for the State Department to declare India an egregious violator of religious freedom. Ilhan Omar, the Democratic member of the House of Representatives known to be a sympathizer of Pakistan, is the lead on the resolution that has been cosponsored by Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Jim McGovern and Juan Vargas, all Democrats. Omar and Tlaib are the first Muslim American women in Congress and they have both tended to focus on, among other things, Muslims around the world and threats and challenges confronting them. Wednesday’s resolution, which is nonbinding unlike a legislation, calls upon Secretary of State Antony Blinken to designate India a “country of particular concern”, a categorisation used by the US under its International Religious Freedom Act for countries it considers are the most egregious violations of religious freedom. “The Indian government must be held responsible for human rights violations against religious and cultural minorities,” Omar said. “In recent years, the Indian government has been escalating repressive policies
against Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Dalits. It is past time for the State Department to acknowledge the reality of the situation in India and formally designate India as a Country of Particular Concern under the International Religious Freedom Act,” she added. Omar has been a strident critic of the Narendra Modi-led government and has targeted its decisions earlier to revoke the special constitutional status of Kashmir. The Congresswoman has

India had reacted sharply to the visit predictably. “We have noted that US Representative Ilhan Omar has visited a part of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that is currently illegally occupied by Pakistan,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs had said. “If such a politician wishes to practice her narrow-minded politics at home, that may be her business. But violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty in its pursuit makes it ours. This visit is condemnable.” Omar’s resolution relies heavily on a recent report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, a government agency set up by Congress, to make her case for designating India. The resolution cites the report repeatedly. PM Modi’s visit boosts Karnataka BJP
HiIndia Newsdesk
Bengaluru,(IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Karnataka visit has given a much-needed boost to the ruling BJP government in the state, which has been facing flak over social unrest, textbook revision row and poor infrastructure of Bengaluru city among other issues. The developments were seen as a set back to the state government which has entered the election year. The opposition party Congress and JD (S) seemed to get momentum as they had launched scathing attacks on BJP in Karnataka. The opposition flayed the BJP over non-decisiveness on the Mekedatu project. After prominent Lingayat and Vokkaliga seers raised their concerns and condemned the textbook revision process, ruling BJP was visibly on back foot. Prime Minister’s whirlwind tour, his assurance to complete the infrastructure development projects in 40 months in Bengaluru, his participation in the 8th International Yoga Day in Mysuru, informal meeting with royal family there, attending a function organised by prominent Linagayat seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji have helped the party to recover its damage.
received the first dose at government vaccination centres. It may be noted that till June 20, the state has administered 12,25,301 precautionary doses which were low. This has led to concern following the rise in Covid cases in the state. The state health department wants the Union health department to give free precautionary doses of vaccines, including Covishield and Covaxin. The state health department officials are sore that when the letter was written to the Union health ministry a few days ago, the state had 69,01,860 doses of Covishield and 25,09,785 doses of Covaxin.

Kerala gold case
Thiruvananthapuram, June 22 (IANS) Amid mounting troubles for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who is in the eye of storm following allegations of involvement in gold and currency smuggling case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is all set to grill the prime accused Swapna Suresh on Wednesday. Swapna Suresh, whose fresh allegations early this month through a confessional statement filed before a magistrate under Section 164 (5) of the Criminal
Troubles likely to mount for CM as ED to grill Swapna today
Procedure Code, has been asked to appear before the federal agency which might spell more trouble for the chief minister. This would be her second appearance before the ED officials, the first being when the gold smuggling case surfaced and she was arrested form Bangalore in July 2020. Despite the adversities, Vijayan continued to maintain his calm and with the Covid pandemic peaking, things took a turn and he won both the local body and the 2021 Assembly polls and
he, like several others, felt that the case would soon be forgotten, sources said. But, the case resurfaced and Swapna’s fresh statements rocked the entire state as in the first round of ED interrogation, Vijayan’s name was missing. Things have changed for worse for the CM as the accused has not only named him, but also his wife and their daughter. Subsequent to this, a top notch additional inspector general of police M.R.Ajithkumar was removed after Swapna alleged that he and another high
ranking police official through a shady middleman was trying to settle issues. Suspicions grew further when the police tried their best to get her fresh confession statement, but a court thwarted that and things went astray for Vijayan, when the ED served a notice to the woman to appear before them on Wednesday.n On Tuesday, Swapna wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a CBI probe into the role of the Kerala government in the gold smuggling case and has sought an appointment too.

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) The sheer size of the GainBitcoin scam that rocked the nation some time back is turning out to be way bigger than thought, with reports suggesting that around 1 lakh victims may have lost more than Rs 1 trillion in the scam. With a total of 40 FIRs registered by victims (more than 13 FIRs in Maharashtra alone)and Punjab, a large number of people from other states may have also lost their hard-earned savings in the GainBitcoin scam. Amit Bhardwaj, the mastermind who died of cardiac arrest earlier this year, may have collected Bitcoins anywhere between 385,000 to 600,000, amounting to more than Rs 1 trillion. The amount may even be bigger as Bitcoin prices remain volatile and dropped from its all-time high of around $68,000 in November last year to around $21,000
as of now. Taking the current Bitcoin price of around Rs 23,57,250 per Bitcoin, the total
amount comes to nearly Rs 90,500 crore. To date, more than 60,000 user IDs and email addresses have been traced by Pune
police in the GainBitcoin case, according to multiple media reports. Like most of the ponzi schemes, GainBitcoin also had a pyramid, multi-level marketing scheme, with Amit Bhardwaj at the top and then his ‘Seven Stars’ who used to operate in India and abroad. They guaranteed a 10 per cent monthly return in Bitcoin-onBitcoin deposits for 18 months via multilevel marketing programmes. Investors were enticed to lend the corporation Bitcoins on the promise that their investments will be increased during the aforementioned period. However, since there are a limited number of Bitcoins, the model was flawed, but several investors had put their money by the time they realized they had made a grave mistake. Currently, all eyes are on Ajay Bhardwaj, the brother of Amit Bhardwaj and the prime accused in the GainBitcoin scam.

Neetu Kapoor says son Ranbir Kapoor ‘balances love’ between her
N
eetu Kapoor is back to doing what she loves best — acting. The actor has returned to the arc lights after a long sabbatical and says the experience helped her regain her balance after husband Rishi Kapoor’s death in 2020. The actor will be seen in JugJugg Jeeyo, which releases this Friday. As Neetu promotes her upcoming film, which revolves around love, marriage, divorce, and everything in between, she is revisiting her memories of her marriage and family ties. In this interview, Neetu candidly opens up about Rishi, her mother-in-law Krishna Raj Kapoor, and how her son Ranbir Kapoor is balancing his relationships after wedding with Alia Bhatt. About why she decided to get back to acting after nine years, Neetu says, “Once an actor, always an actor. But, you need a lot of confidence, which I had lost in the interim because I had not worked
for so long. Then I lost my husband… When I started shooting the film, I didn’t have it. But now I think I am confident, I can do it and I’ll now keep doing more work.” About facing her insecurities, Neetu said, “When we were half way through the movie, I’d tell a friend that it is not my cup of tea, I don’t want to do it, I don’t want to go on set, I was so stressed. Now, however, I feel much better and I want to do more work. It is all about confidence, and I am gaining it back.” She shares, “It keeps you busy, it is like a job. Acting is my occupation. What else can I do, I am all alone. Nobody lives with me, both my children are married. So, what do I do? I’d be very sad thinking about my past and my husband. So, I decided that it is better to be busy, kaam karte raho, dil behel jaataa hai. So, it is a good thing.”

O
ne may ask, ‘I am dissatisfied with everything. What can I acquire that will make me content?’ The saints reply that so long as you think in terms of acquiring, you will not be content. The thought of acquiring itself is the source of discontentment. Contentment lies in celebrating what you have, while discontentment is a result of desire or greed for what you do not have. Chasing what you do not possess will keep you running around forever, as acquiring everything will never be possible. Discontentment will be the sad story of your life. Realise that you have been blessed with so much. It is only on account of your greed and ego that you cannot see it. Rejoice and value the life that you have. Be grateful for the many things you have taken for granted. Discontentment will not lead you anywhere. One day death will knock at your door and you will be taken away in the feeling of discontentment. Therefore, awaken! Live with contentment.
Contentment is Acceptance: One who is content wonders how he has been blessed with such abundance. He feels he has been granted far more than he deserves. He lives in a feeling of gratitude and this itself is contentment. It is acceptance of what is, and the belief that it is enough. This brings happiness and peace. Each day, every moment, he

How Can I be Content?
Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji is an enlightened master, a spiritual visionary
HI INDIA NEWS DESK BY PUJYA GURUDEVSHRI RAKESHJI receives gifts from the Lord as torrents of bliss pouring in his heart. Acceptance is the spirit of a seeker. He surrenders his life unto God like a blank cheque book with a valid signature at the bottom. He allows God to fill in whatever is necessary for him. He has no choice or desire of his own. Acceptance is blissful. Nothing external can dampen the bliss. Where there are no pre-conditions or desires like,

Feeling of Gratitude: Man complains only because he is not content with what he has. If he gets hurt and fractures his leg, he complains. If his leg were so important, one wonders why he failed to thank God when his leg was normal and yet reacts when his leg is injured. One day you are hurt so you complain, and for years, nothing went wrong but there was no expression of gratitude. It appears as though you are determined to remain discontent, sad and depressed. Infinite bliss has been bestowed upon you, but you remain unaware of it. If you cultivate the feeling of gratitude, you will always remain content and happy. Therefore, strengthen the feeling of gratitude. A spiritual seeker is one whose way of thinking and living has been transformed. In whatever he sees and whatever he gets, his connection with God is not lost. His joy never disappears; instead, it keeps increasing. He does not become depressed. Ever joyful, he is content, satisfied and has no demands. He always feels blessed. To remain content and happy is an art. It is not a gift from destiny. It is a reward from the Sadguru, the fruit of His grace. It is the result of the practice of His teachings. Whether standing, sitting, eating, drinking, one who can remain content alone receives an open invitation from the Supreme Self

Arun Subramanian (Photo courtesySenator Charles Schumer’s office) HiIndia Newsdesk
NEW YORK, NY- A prominent Manhattan attorney with a background in fighting for consumers should be appointed to the federal bench, according to Senator Charles Schumer. The Senate majority leader has advised the Biden administration of his recommendation of Arun Subramanian as a judicial nominee for the Southern District of New York. “Arun Subramanian is a steadfast consumer protection expert who has spent his legal career defending consumers and individuals injured by unfair and illegal practices, including whistleblowers. Subramanian currently serves as a partner with Susman Godrey, a law firm based in Houston but with offices on 6th Avenue in Midtown. He has plenty of experience in the federal court system, having served as a law clerk to three jurists including the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, also a New York native. He was also appointed by Chief Justice John Roberts to serve on the court’s Advisory Committee for the Federal Rules of Evidence. As part of his practice to the public, Subramanian has defended public entities and whistleblowers in various False Claims Act cases, as well as victims of child pornography trafficking. Subramanian has also gone to court for consumers and individuals who have been injured by unfair and illegal practices.b “Arun has been actively involved in a variety of landmark matters for Susman Godfrey. No matter the arena, Arun has a proven track record of success,” according to Susman Godfrey’s online profile of Subramanian. Ready to quit if there is an official statement from rebel MLAs, says Uddhav Thackeray HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi: Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, asserted today that he would “not fight for the chair” and his party Shiv Sena “will never give
up Hindutva” in his first address since a rebel crisis exploded in his party two days ago. “I will resign if even one MLA objects to me as Chief Minister. I am keeping my resignation letter ready. You tell me you want me to resign,” Uddhav Thackeray said. Mr Thackeray spoke shortly after 30 Shiv Sena MLAs wrote to the Governor backing rebel Eknath Shinde as their leader. “I am getting calls from MLAs who have gone with Eknath Shinde; they are claiming that they were forcibly taken away,” Mr Thackeray said. The rebel MLAs, who are at a hotel in Guwahati in BJP-ruled Assam, wrote to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari that Eknath Shinde is still the legislative party leader of the Shiv Sena a day after Uddhav Thackeray sacked him for his act of rebellion.

Mumbai, June 22 (IANS) As the suspense over the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) fate continued, a power struggle erupted between the Shiv Sena and rebels group to wrest control over the party, here on Wednesday. Hitting back, the rebel group leader, Minister Eknath Shinde has termed the meeting called by the Chief Minister through the Whip as ‘illegal’. The casualties were reported from Barmal, Ziruk, Naka and Gayan districts of Paktika province. Helicopters and rescue teams have arrived in the affected areas from neighbouring provinces and Kabul. Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday wrote to the Enforcement Directorate seeking postponement of her appearance by a few weeks till she recovers completely from Covid and a lung infection. Congress president Gandhi was discharged from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here on Monday evening and was advised rest at home, the party said. New Delhi: Recounting how he handled the marathon questioning sessions with the Enforcement Directorate, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today said that the probe agency’s officers were surprised by his patience and endurance. While addressing party workers at the Delhi headquarters, he said that he never felt alone in the office even though he was sitting in a 12/12 ft room with three ED officers. “I wasn’t alone in the room, all you Congress workers were with me. All those who believe in freedom were also with me,” he said. Mr Gandhi said the ED officers asked him at night how he was able to sit upright in the chair for over 11 hours without being tired, as they were tired. “I thought let me not tell them the real reason, I told them I do Vipassana. You have to sit for long hours in that, you get used to it,” he remarked in jest. Rahul Gandhi then narrated the process he endured for five days. I answered questions, checked all the answers, and didn’t leave my chair much, he said, adding that on the last day the officers asked him how he has so much patience. “I told them I won’t tell you...you know what the truth is? The truth is I have been working with Congress since 2004, of course I have patience. This party doesn’t let us tire out and it teaches us patience. Look at Sachin Pilot (indicating he is also patiently waiting for his due). That is how we fight for people,” he said. He then attacked the Centre over unemployment, damaging the MSME sector, and various other policy decisions. “Didn’t I tell you that Farm Laws will be revoked? See, Modiji had to revoke it. Now I am telling you, the Agnipath scheme will be shelved. Wait and watch.

Is intermittent fasting any good for weight loss? Listen to the experts
I
f you’re someone who’s thought about losing weight or has wanted to get healthier in the past few years, you’ve probably come across t hes e t wo words: intermittent fasting. From celebrities to fitness enthusiasts, intermittent fasting has many thousands of loyal advocates online, claiming this way of eating has helped them lose weight better than other diet methods have. It’s easy to see the appeal of intermittent fasting as a weight loss method. Not only is it simple, it’s also flexible, can be adapted easily to every person, and doesn’t require you to eliminate foods or count calories. But despite its popularity, intermittent fasting may not actually be better than other diet methods when it comes to weight loss. To date, numerous studies have shown intermittent fasting is as good as counting calories when it comes to weight loss including a
recent study, which tracked participants for more than a year. This has even been shown with many different types of intermittent fasting, including alternate-day fasting (where you fast or restrict calories every other day), 5:2 dieting (eating normally five days a week, then fasting or restricting calories for two days) and time-restricted eating (where you eat all of your days calories within a set time window, such as only eating during an eight hour window, then fasting for 16 hours).
But no studies have yet shown intermittent fasting to be any better than conventional diets. Intermittent fasting reduces the amount you eat, but it may have a downside. It both reduces the amount of physical activity we do, and reduces how hard we push during exercise. This is true regardless of the type of intermittent fasting you do. This suggests that when calorie intake is substantially reduced even for a short period of time the body adapts by reducing the number of calories used
during exercise. Researchers aren’t entirely sure why this happens, however. W h i l e t h i s m ay n o t necessarily affect weight loss, lower physical activity levels can have other negative effects on health. For example, a recent alternate-day fasting study found that even just three weeks of this diet reduced physical activity levels and led to a greater loss of muscle mass than a daily calorie restriction diet. The fasting diet was also less effective than daily calorie restriction for fat loss. Muscle mass is crucial for many reasons, including regulating blood sugar levels and staying physically able as we get older. So diets that cause muscle loss are best avoided. However, combining intermittent fasting with exercise programmes such as resistance training may help people better maintain lean muscle mass while encouraging fat loss.
The First Two Teeth: The first two teeth present in the front of the mouth help to show our age to the world. The younger a person is, the more rounded and well-shaped the corners of the front teeth will be. As a person starts to grow older, their front teeth tend to get squarer and it begins to shorten as well. Unique Characteristics of your Canine teeth: Our canine teeth provide a lot of information about our personality. Sharp, long and prominent canines suggest that an individual has an aggressive personality whereas blunt canines suggest a more calm and collective nature. Masculine/Feminine Traits: The teeth present in the sides of your front two teeth indicate your feminine or masculine traits. Feminine traits usually have shorter and rounded teeth whereas masculine has larger and squarer teeth sets. The shape of the teeth: If you have pointy teeth, then it is considered that you generally have an aggressive personality. The pointiness of the teeth helps to show the hostile attitude that you might have. It can be related to short-temperedness or a normally rude and on-point personality. The people who have oval teeth are very organised in nature. They are very much invested in keeping things organised, and clean and are mostly considered perfectionists by others. They are very much set in their own ways to divert from it easily. Rectangular teeth are associated with explosive and intensenatured personalities. They are also very determined by nature. Teeth Grinding: Teeth grinding is associated with excessive stress and anxiety in a person. If a person very frequently grinds their teeth, it generally means that they are anxious or stressed out a lot. (Dr. Rajesh Shetty is a Founder of Dazzle Dental Clinic, Mumbai)
Are there other benefits to fasting?
W
hile intermittent fasting might not be a miracle solution when it comes to weight loss, that doesn’t mean it might not still have other health benefits. A recent review on intermittent fasting found that it improved blood pressure, insulin sensitivity (how effectively the body regulates blood sugar) and lowered cholesterol levels to a similar extent as daily calorie restriction. It is likely this effect is due to weight loss. But since few studies have followed participants for longer than a year, it’s hard to know whether these effects persist. Some research also suggests how you fast may also be key. A number of studies have shown promising results from early time-restricted eating, which involves eating all your day’s calories in the early part of the day and fasting in the evening, usually from 4pm onwards. Eating early in the day aligns food intake with our natural circadian rhythms, which means nutrients are processed more efficiently. Early time-restricted eating has also been shown to improve several markers of health, such as insulin sensitivity, which is a key risk factor for type 2 diabetes. These improvements were even seen without weight loss.

D
isha Patani’s ef for tless wardrobe is proof that less is more. Often spotted dressed in easy-breezy floral dresses with paparazzis swarming around in huge numbers, not only is her style ideal for the Indian weather but is also super easy to replicate. It’s no surprise that florals dominate her sartorial repertoire
given her penchant for everything cottagecore with coord sets and dresses taking up considerable space. Sweetheart necks and mini puffed sleeves compliment her girl-next-door image and dainty neck chains add a bit of a personality to transform the look while retaining a chilled vibe. Side slitsyes please.
Next up we have a matching white set defined by tiers of ruffles and a centre slit. Striking the balance between dressy and relaxed, this piece styled by Mohit Rai screams Margaritas with besties. ‘Incorporate habits that will lead you to becoming best version of yourself’: Nwal Hadaki Hadaki, a fourth-year medical student, said many people say ‘tomorrow is the day I will change’, but that change doesn’t come easy
E
veryone, at some point in life, thinks about bringing a change to their life. Whether this change is inculcating a new habit or getting rid of an old one. These changes can be something as small as keeping a clean room or as big as maintaining a clean lifestyle. Although, not everyone can live up to continuing these habits. Nwal Hadaki, a fourth-year medical student eager about public speaking and giving life coach advice, said many people say ‘tomorrow is the day I will change’, but that change doesn’t come easy. “You have to incorporate some habits in your life that will lead to you becoming the best version of yourself, you’ll also have to eliminate certain
habits that are hindering your path.” Hadaki added that it takes exactly 21 days to form a new habit or get rid of an old one. When she first heard of this theory in high school, she decided to make her bed for 21 days, so she would inculcate it as a habit. “Day by day early in the morning at 6 am, even on days I was running late, I made my bed and I hated every second of it. By day 22, I opened my eyes and the first thing I did was say ‘Mom, please don’t forget to make my bed today’. I quit.” I do not exaggerate when I say, this 21-day theory is the most famous myth in the world of self-development.” Stating that the complexity of a goal and the consistency of certain behaviour affect the speed at which you
acquire a habit or get rid of one, Hadaki quoted a study by a psychologist, which explained it takes two to eight months, or 66 days, to accomplish changing lifestyle. “Whether it is two months, three months, a year, two years, it doesn’t really matter how long it takes as much as it matters that you have to begin today and once you begin, make sure to maintain your new habit. Make it part of your schedule, set reminders, create a supportive environment and most importantly you do not have to be perfect. Making a mistake once or twice has not lasting effects on your behaviour… you have to give yourself time and not rush into becoming a better person.”

In Uttar Pradesh, a mob entered a railway station in Ballia this morning and set a train coach on fire, and also damaged railway station property before the police used force to disperse them. Opposition meet to pick Presidential candidate on June 21 HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi, June 17 (IANS) The opposition parties will meet on June 21 to discuss the candidate for the Presidential election. The meeting will be chaired by NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Sources say that 17 parties will attend the meeting. The parties have to arrive at a consensus on the candidate’s name after Sharad Pawar declined to contest. The opposition parties had on Wednesday decided to field a joint candidate in the Presidential polls next month. The
meeting of opposition leaders, called by Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was held here for building a consensus on a joint opposition candidate. In the meeting, a resolution was passed to field a common candidate. “In the forthcoming Presidential election which is being held on the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, we have decided to field a common candidate who can truly serve as custodian of the Constitution and stop the Modi government from doing further damage to Indian democracy and India’s social fabric,” it said.

China Defends Move To Block Pak Terrorist Listing At United Nations HiIndia Newsdesk
China on Friday defended its move to put a hold in the UN on a joint proposal by India and the US to list Pakistan-based top LET terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist by the Security Council, saying that its actions were in accordance with the relevant procedures and rules. Abdul Rehman Makki, 74, a US-designated terrorist, is the brother-in-law of LeT chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed. India and the US had put a joint proposal to designate Makki as a global terrorist under the 1267 ISIL and Al Qaida Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council but Beijing, a close ally of Pakistan, placed a hold on this proposal at the last minute. “I would like to say that China opposes terrorism in all its manifestation and the actions we take in the 1267 committee in the UNSC always abide by relevant procedures and rules,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.
