New York, July 20 (IANS) The US has come under a “Heat Wave Warning” from the National Weather Service saying “Dangerous Levels” could be reached this week affecting 100 million Americans across several states from Texas, Louisiana to Kansas and Missouri. Biden unveils $2.3bn plan to fight climate change
“dangerous heat” is forecast to impact a large swath of the country, including states ranging from Texas and Louisiana to Kansas and Missouri. Heat wave is sweeping across Europe and London alone experienced the seasons highest off 40 degrees Celsius on a single day sending Londoners to the nearest air conditioners and fan shops to buy them to cool themselves down, reports from London said. Politicians are blaming global warming as the reason for climate change leading to unusual heat waves in countries which have not experienced such temperatures. A number of states were also placed under a heat advisory with most areas forecast to reach at least the high 90s (Fahrenheit) and other areas, including Phantom Ranch, Ariz., on track to reach a whopping 114 degrees. Amarillo, Texas, is similarly expected to reach a high of 113 degrees and Shreveport, Louisiana, will soar to 108 degrees, according to a report in the USA today quoting NWS sources.

US President Joe Biden has announced $ 2 . 3 bn ( £ 1 . 9 bn ) to h e lp bu i l d infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather and natural disasters. But he stopped short of formally declaring a climate emergency, which would grant him further powers. Mr Biden spoke in Massachusetts as a heatwave brings extreme weather to Europe and North America. Tens of millions of people in the US, across more than two dozen states, are living under heat warnings this week. “Climate change is literally an existential threat to our nation and to the world,” the president said in Wednesday’s speech, which was delivered outside a former coal-fired power plant in the town of Somerset. “The health of our citizens and our communities is... at stake. So we have to act.” He said the funding would go to expanding flood control, shoring up utilities, retrofitting buildings, and helping families pay for heating and cooling costs. The money comes from an existing Federal Emergency Management Agency budget and will be prioritised for disadvantaged communities, said the White House.

US seizes stolen funds from suspected North Korean hackers
Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco says the Department of Justice is attacking malicious cyber-activity from all angles HiIndia Newsdesk
The US Department of Justice has seized $500,000 (£417,000) worth of Bitcoin from suspected North Korean hackers. The hackers attacked healthcare providers with a new strain of ransomware, extorting the funds from several organisations. US authorities say they have already returned ransom payments to two
hospital groups. The rare successful seizure comes as US authorities warn that North Korea is becoming a major ransomware threat. In a conference on Tuesday, Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco praised an unnamed Kansas hospital for alerting the FBI early about the ransomware attack. “Not only did this allow us to recover their ransom payment as well as a ransom paid by previously unknown victims, but we were also able to identify a previously unidentified ransomware strain,” she said. According to court documents, hackers used the ransomware strain called Maui to encrypt the files and servers of a medical centre in Kansas in May 2021. Typically, ransomware hackers will use malicious software to scramble data or lock users out of the system until a ransom is paid.

She is due to deliver remarks to lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. Tuesday’s encounter will be the second time the two first ladies have met, after Dr Biden made an unannounced visit to Ukraine in May. S
logans like - “Don’t sell the country to India and the US”; “India: Sri Lanka is not another state”; and “India don’t exploit Sri Lanka’s situation” - could be widely heard during the demonstrations. But while anti-Indian sentiments like these still persist, how Sri Lankans view India might be changing as the country grapples with political and economic chaos. Sri Lanka is in the midst of a deep and unprecedented economic crisis that has sparked massive protests, and forced its president to quit after fleeing the country. Over the years, Sri Lanka has built up a huge amount of debt - to the point that it is now struggling to buy essentials such as food, fuel and medicine. Protesters blame Mr Rajapaksa and his family, who fled to Singapore last week, for the situation. World Population Day India is set to become the world’s most populous country next year, overtaking China with its 1.4bn people, according to UN figures. By this November, the planet will be home to 8bn. But population growth is not as rapid as it used to be. It is now at its slowest rate since 1950 and is set to peak, says the UN, around the 2080s at about 10.4bn though some demographers believe that could happen even sooner. But the population of the world is expanding unevenly. More than half the growth we will see in the next 30 years will happen in just eight countries - the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania. At the same time, some of the world’s most developed economies are already seeing population decline as fertility rates fall below 2.1 children per woman, which is known as the “replacement rate”. In 61 countries, the report says, populations will decline by at least 1% by 2050. With one of the lowest fertility rates in the world (at 1.15 children per woman), China has announced that its population is due to start declining next year - much earlier than previously thought. That is despite the country abandoning its one child policy in 2016 and introducing incentives for couples to have two or

Colombo moved away from the Indian sphere of influence starting 2005, after Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected president. The gradual shift was consolidated during his second term, which saw several agreements with China on
infrastructure projects, such as a port in the southern town of Hambantota. Figures show that China has loaned more than $5bn to Sri Lanka so far, about 10% of Sri Lanka’s total external debt. But despite Sri Lanka seeking additional loans to tackle its current problems - a crippling shortage of fuel and soaring food prices - Beijing is yet to commit on any new loans. India, on the other hand, has provided around $3.5bn as credit and currency swap. As part of the credit line, it has dispatched several shipments of muchneeded fuel, food and fertilisers to Sri Lanka in recent months. In addition to the loans by Delhi, the government of Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin of the DMK party, has also sent shipments of food and medicine to Sri Lanka. Political parties in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday had asked Delhi to convene a meeting to discuss the evolving situation in the neighbouring country. Experts say that India’s multi-billion-dollar financial assistance has led to a shift in public perception among Sri Lankans. “India has provided timely help by sending us fuel and food. Without Indian assistance it would have been difficult for Sri Lanka,” Tyronne Sebastian, a private sector employee says. Melanie Gunathilake, a social activist, says she is grateful to the people of India for “the amazing show of solidarity and support”. But experts say that India’s decision to offer assistance to Sri Lanka also has strategic significance - one that gives Delhi leverage over its neighbour.
World Population Day: India will overtake China in 2023, says the UN More than half the growth we will see in the next 30 years will happen in just eight countries the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
India is set to become the world’s most populous country next year, overtaking China with its 1.4bn people, according to UN figures
more children. As India’s population continues to grow it will almost certainly overtake China as the country with the biggest population in the world. Fertility rates are falling globally even in many of the countries where the population is expanding. That is because, as previous generations expand, there are more people having children, even if individually those people are having fewer children than
their parents did. Growth is also largely thanks to developments in medicine and science which mean that more children are surviving into adulthood and more adults into old age. That pattern is likely to continue, which means that by 2050 the global average life expectancy will be around 77.2 years. But this pattern means that the share of the global population aged 65 years or above is projected to rise from 10% this year to 16% in 2050. Again the distribution will be unequal with some countries, in East Asia and Western Europe, already seeing more extremes in ageing.

House of Rep Approves Waiver to India Against CAATSA
Zofeen Maqsood
The US House of Representatives have passed a voice vote for a legislative amendment approving waiver to Indians against the punitive CAATSA sanctions. The legislative amendment passed on Thursday, was introduced by Congressman Ro Khanna and provides a waiver to India against its purchase of the S-400 missile defence system from Russia to deter China. The amendment asks the Biden government to provide India waiver with a Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) which authorizes the US administration to impose sanctions on countries that purchase major defence hardware from Russia in response to Russia’s annexation to Crimea in 2014 and its alleged meddling in the US 2016 Presidential elections.

Over 16,000 Doctors From India and China Are In Green Card Backlog HiIndia Newsdesk
The United States is facing a potential medical crisis if the ongoing Green Card backlog crisis is not resolved. Over 16,000 doctors from India and China are caught up in the immigration backlog that has resulted in their inability to receive their Green Cards. I n t h e s u m m e r o f 2 0 2 1 , U. S . Representatives. Zoe Lofgren of California and John Curtis of Utah introduced the bipartisan Equal Access to Green Cards for Legal Employment Act that would phase out the percountry limits on employment-based immigrant visas. Approximately 28% of all surgeons and physicians in the United States are immigrants, and 16.3% of all nurses, according to the American Community Survey. The percent of immigrant health care workers in Illinois is:
• Health Care Workers 17.73% • Physicians 32.2% • Nurses 14.98% Indian-origin physicians account for at least 29.5% of the total physician population with India providing the largest number of international medical graduates to the US in absolute numbers. According to statistics, every seventh doctor in the US is of Indian origin, but what nobody cares to report is that how
many of them are stuck in a green card backlog that is claiming precious years from their personal and professional lives, lament many doctors. In certain fields such as medicine, limitations such as these very often mean that a needy patient is denied the care he could have otherwise received. An H-1B visa holder according to immigration policies needs to get authorization for even a slight change in job description by the USCIS or else they risk losing their jobs. Obtaining a green card or permanent residency in the US, would help solve this challenge for many qualified physicians. However, hundreds of thousands of such physicians particularly from India, who have applied for a green card, are stuck in a backlog spanning decades and hence find themselves in restrictive professional situations on a daily basis.
The Oldest Cricket Club in America Turns 150
Zofeen Maqsood
In New York, a cricket club is celebrating 150 years of its being the oldest, continuously active cricket club. The Staten Island Cricket Club was founded in 1872 by British armed forces and Wall Street Traders. Interestingly, in baseball crazy America, this cricket stadium comes as a riveting piece of history as matches have been played here every year since its inception. The city’s large immigrant communities have also kept the interest in the game alive. Cricketing legends like Don Bradman, Geoffrey Boycott and Gary Sobers have played at this ground. Cricket was a popular game in the United States back in q800, but it slowly lost its popularity to baseball. Over the weekend, the Staten Island Cricket Club will be marking its 150 years with a plaque unveiling and of course a game of cricket.

NY Court Convicts Nirav Modi’s Brother in $2.6 million Diamond Fraud Zofeen Maqsood
A New York court has convicted Nehal Modi for obtaining diamonds worth over $2.6 million fraudulently from a Manhattan based wholesale firm. Nehal is the brother of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi. In 2015, Nehal Modi made a false representation against a “deal” with Costco Wholesale Corporation to obtain more than $2.6 million worth of diamonds from LLD also known as Lev Leviev Diamonds. He however then liquidated the diamonds for his personal use. The New York State Supreme Court Jury convicted Modi of grand larceny in the first degree. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr said, “This scheme unfolded in the heart of New York City’s historic diamond district, where Mr. Modi conned and
defrauded a Manhattan business out of millions. Here, there was clear and conclusive evidence that Modi obtained these diamonds under false pretences and used them for quick cash.” Modi approached LLD and asked them to provide diamonds to present to Costco. After obtaining the diamonds, he falsely told the company that Costco had agreed to purchase the diamonds. LLD allowed Modi to purchase the diamonds on credit with full payment required to be made within 90 days. However Modi pawned the diamonds the very next day for his personal gains. LLD reported the fraud to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Record no. of Indians applied to give up citizenship last year. Lockdown backlog, say officials

The highest number of applications to renounce Indian citizenship, the data reveals, came from the United States of America, with 78,284, followed by Australia, with 23,533, Canada, with 21,597, the United Kingdom, with 14,637, and Italy, with 5,986. The minister did not comment on the reasons for the record number, saying only that individuals renounced their citizenship for “for reasons personal to them”. India, unlike some other countries, A total of 1,63,370 Indian does not allow for dual citizenship — and all Indian nationals who acquire nationals renounced their foreign nationalities are legally required citizenship in 2021. In 2020, to renounce their Indian citizenship. the number had fallen to just Although the law is not always enforceable, most Indians who acquire citizenship 85,248 from 1,44,217 in 2019, overseas voluntarily apply, an official at the highest until then. the Ministry of Home Affairs said. Figures released by the Ministry of related closures had led the numbers to External Affairs in September had fall to just 85,248, from 1,44,217 in 2019 shown a significant uptick in citizenship — the highest until then. The new figures renunciation from 2020, when pandemic- revise the total number of people who
have renounced their citizenship since 2017 from 8,81,254 to over 9,32,000. A senior official at the Ministry of Home Affairs said the record numbers reflected a sharp drop in applications in 2020, likely because of pandemic-related closures. “This isn’t some kind of sudden no-confidence vote in India,” the official said, adding: “The numbers only tell us many people who could not apply in 2020, did so last year.” Last year, the government had eased
procedures for Indians to renounce their citizenship, and enabled online applications. In 2020, the United States gave citizenship to 6,25,400 individuals. Indians made up 7.7 per cent of this number, or 48,125 people. The number of Indians who renounced their citizenship in both 2020 or 2021, though, is significantly higher than that number — suggesting that there has indeed been some accumulated backlog in applications. The data does not reveal when those who applied to renounce their citizenship, applied for their new nationalities. “There is generally a lag of several years between citizenship being applied for and granted,” a diplomat at the Indian embassy in Washington said. “People likely made the decision years before they applied to renounce their citizenship. The figures we see now are for individuals who applied for US citizenship many years ago.” Fascinating insights into the global movement of Indians is available from the data. The number of Indians who renounced their citizenship after acquiring Pakistani nationality rose to 41 in 2021, from 7 in 2020 and zero in 2019. A small number of Indians living in China (362) also renounced their citizenship, having obtained nationality in that country, Canada, New Zealand, USA, Thailand, Germany and Italy. Small numbers of Indians also obtained citizenship of countries from Kenya, Botswana and South Korea. Vietnam, Sudan, Mongolia and Zimbabwe were among countries from where no Indians applied to renounce their citizenship.

In Medical Exam NEET Rigging Scam, Seats Sold For Rs. 20 Lakh: CBI Sources
HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) Being a trusted partner in the journey of socio-economic development, India has extended concessional loans of over $12.3 billion to Africa, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Tuesday. The country has also granted $700 million of grant assistance, the minister said in his address at the 17th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership. He said that since post-colonial reconstruction is the shared goal of India and African countries, it is only to be expected that development partnership would have primacy in India’s Africa policy. “This has been the centerpiece of the India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) that first commenced in 2008. Since then, the IAFS process
has expanded very significantly both in scope and complexity of projects,” Jaishankar said. He noted that particularly after 2015, the intensified engagement underlines Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal commitment to greater equity and sustainable development. “We have completed 197 projects so far, 65 more are currently under execution and 81 at the pre-execution stage,” Jaishankar added. He asserted that India’s development projects in various sectors such as drinking water schemes to irrigation, rural solar electrification, power plants, transmission lines, cement, sugar and textile factories, technology parks and railway infrastructure have generated local employment and changed the life of many people in Africa.

T
hink action movies, and the first name that pops in our head is Rohit Shetty. It is only natural that the makers of Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi would then rope him in as a host instead of tapping into other stars for this action reality show. While this is the seventh season that the filmmaker has taken up, he claims that the excitement of the show has not dwindled away in all these years. In fact, the show has only upped the ante every time. “The show has changed a lot over the years. I keep learning, and try to upgrade myself every season,” says Shetty, who is particularly proud of the contestants on board for the 12th edition of the show. Unlike the contestants in the previous seasons, the latest set of participants, as per Shetty, have unrelenting spirit. “For the first time in the history of KKK, we’ve not had to abort any tasks mid-way. This has been the best lot. You can barely count a few aborts,” he explains, adding that the scale and level of difficulty on the show has increased. Ideally, every season, the makers alter some of the stunts, but crowd favourites are retained. “Every time we try to push the envelope and expand the scale. Having said that, besides new stunts, the show will also have a lot of humour. Contestants Nishant [Bhat] and Rajeev [Adatia] have been leaving everyone in splits,” says the filmmakerhost. But ask him to pick a favourite and Shetty is quick to say no. “I think all are my favourites because they keep surprising me at every turn. Usually, right at the start of the season, a few contestants manage to stand out, but that is not the case this year,” he adds. “The team here is fabulous. It is this very team that now comes and works in India for some of my films and a few others. In fact, they also take care of south movies,” says Shetty, adding that there is also a sentimental connection with Cape Town. “The city is fabulous, but there is an emotional connection with it because this is where we started.”

Ranbir Pulls Off Kalaripayattu Inspired Fight Sequence In Shamshera!

anbir Kapoor is playing a larger than life quintessential Hindi film hero with the action entertainer Shamshera. Ranbir, who is coming to the big screen four years after he delivered the blockbuster Sanju, is pitted against Sanjay Dutt who is playing an evil, merciless, cold-hearted brute force of nature, Shuddh Singh. Sanjay Dutt vs Ranbir Kapoor is the clash of the year on the big screen and Ranbir will be seen pulling off many visually stunning action set pieces in Shamshera! One such is a Kalaripayattu inspired edgy fight sequence which has been directed by Franz Spilhaus, who has previously choreographed films like the Denzel Washington starrer Safe House and Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff ’s blockbuster WAR. Kalaripayattu is a martial art designed for the ancient battlefield (the word Kalari meaning battlefield), with weapons and combative techniques that are unique to India. In this scene, Ranbir fights an army general with a long, deadly wooden log as their choice of weapon. Director Karan Malhotra explains, “Shamshera is a film that is extremely rooted to India and its culture and

traditions. Being set in the 1800’s it was important that action set pieces also look from that era and are mounted at a visual scale like never before. We wanted audiences to see something new and we have tried to achieve this. Ranbir is playing the Hindi film hero and he has to pull off incredible action scenes. One such scene required him to pull off a Kalaripayattu inspired fight sequence that we shot on a really dusty field and constructed an arena that resembled the arena of those times!” Karan adds, “As an actor, Ranbir jumps at anything new! So, when we explained the scene to him, he

critical juncture of the film. It was a challenging shoot sequence. It was hot, it was humid and it was really really dusty. To make matters worse, it was also windy. But hats off to Ranbir for pulling this off with elan. This is one of the biggest highlight points of the film and I hope people love it.” The story of Shamshera is set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shuddh Singh. This is the story of a man who became a slave, a slave who became a leader and then a legend for his tribe. He relentlessly fights for his tribe’s freedom and dignity. His name is Shamshera. The high-octane, adrenalinepumping entertainer is set in the 1800s in the heartland of India. It has the big promise of a never seen before Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Shamshera in the film! Sanjay Dutt plays Ranbir’s arch-enemy in this huge casting coup and his showdown with Ranbir will be something to watch out for as they will ferociously go after each other with no mercy. Directed by Karan Malhotra, this action extravaganza has been produced by Aditya Chopra and is set to release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on July 22, 2022.

NEW YORK, NY — Abortion pills soon could be available “at no cost” at all New York City-run health clinics under a new bill passed by lawmakers. City Council members Thursday voted 41-7 on the bill requiring all health department clinics to provide FDAapproved abortion pills. The measure is only the latest in a spate of actions designed to keep New York City and the state as a “safe harbor” for abortion access after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Carlina Rivera, the bill’s prime sponsor and a congressional candidate, also shepherded a bill to fight back against fake abortion clinics in the city. “These bills help eliminate obstacles to ab or t ion c are li ke cost and misinformation,” she tweeted. “By offering access to free medical abortion and requiring robust educational campaigns on predatory fake clinics, people seeking care can be empowered to make real decisions for themselves.” The bills await Mayor Eric Adams’ signature for final approval.

Darren Bailey Opposes Allowing A 10-YearOld Survivor Of Rape To Get An Abortion
HiIndia Newsdesk
CHICAGO, IL — Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a 10-year-old survivor of rape in Ohio was forced to travel to Indiana to obtain an abortion. For weeks, Republicans have placed doubt upon the story and failed to acknowledge the destructive nature of abortion restrictions in their own states. Now, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has indicated that
he wants to investigate the doctor who performed the abortion and challenge her medical license. Instead of going after the rapist who attacked an underage girl, today’s GOP is more concerned with prosecuting doctors providing critical care. Darren Bailey voted against the Reproductive Health Act, which codified the right to choose into state law and removed the law in Illinois that holds doctors criminally liable for performing an abortion. Bailey even served as a co-sponsor of a bill that would repeal the Reproductive Health Act entirely. “As more and more states implement dangerous anti-abortion legislation, it is essential that Illinois remains an island for reproductive freedom. Voters need an answer from Darren Bailey: does he stand with protecting doctors or with the man who sexually abused a 10-year-old?” said JB for Governor Press Secretary Eliza Glezer. “We deserve to know just how far Bailey is willing to go to restrict women’s rights in Illinois. In Darren Bailey’s Illinois, doctors providing essential health care and the patients they treat could face greater burdens than abusers.” Bailey has stated that he does not support allowing abortions even in cases of rape or incest. His extreme beliefs are a danger to women and girls in Illinois and in our neighboring states like Indiana and Ohio.

How alcohol may benefit you if you are over 40 New York, July 17 (IANS) If you are over 40 and have no underlying health conditions a small glass of red wine, or a can or bottle of beer, or a shot of whiskey or other spirits may help reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes, according to a new analysis published in The Lancet. However, the study showed that young people may face higher health risks from alcohol consumption than older adults. In particular, for males aged 15-39 drinking alcohol does not provide any health benefits. They constitute the largest segment of the population drinking unsafe amounts of alcohol and are at health risk, with 60 per cent of alcohol-related injuries occurring among people in this age group, including motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and homicides. “Our message is simple: young people should not drink, but older people may benefit from drinking small amounts. While it may not be realistic to think young adults will abstain from drinking, we do think it’s important to communicate the latest evidence so that everyone can make informed decisions about their health,” said Dr Emmanuela Gakidou, Professor of Health Metrics Sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at Type 2 diabetes reversal is easy and can be achieved in 6-8 weeks by joining a program This one is actually a pretty funny and dangerous myth. In general, for individuals aged 40-64 years, safe alcohol consumption levels ranged from about half a standard drink per day (0.527 drinks for males and 0.562 standard drinks per day for females) to almost two standard drinks (1.69 standard drinks per day for males and 1.82 for females). On the other hand, the recommended amount of alcohol for people aged 15-39 before risking health loss was 0.136 standard drinks per day (a little more than one-tenth of a standard drink). That amount was slightly higher for females aged 15-39 years at 0.273 drinks (about a quarter of a standard drink per day). The findings also suggest that g l o b a l a l c o h o l c on s u mpt i on recommendations should be based on age and location. Overall, the recommended alcohol intake for adults remained low at between 0-1.87 standard drinks per day, regardless of geography, age, sex, or year, the researchers said Myth 3 – Do fasting and you will reverse diabetes This one is really doing the rounds. This might not be a myth but rather an exaggeration. It makes sense to fast as you will end up consuming lesser food. Initially, one will witness weight loss and the gut along with the pancreas will get some relaxation during the fasting period. Fasting is an age-old practice and does have benefits if done the ‘right way’. It’s however important to know what’s the right way to fast? The answer to this question is that it varies from diabetic to diabetic and also depends on the comorbid conditions, current medications, insulin and how much the blood sugar fluctuates. Of course, eating 2 kg of fruits or eating “anything and everything” during the eating window isn’t going to work so such behaviour is not encouraged. Also, if you are continuously fasting for weeks or months together, then be careful about muscle health, gut health and even your metabolism as all of these can take a slight dip. Fasting when used as one of the tools for better diabetes management under the right guidance should help in the overall improvement of the patient’s health.

Pant can handle pressure well, could captain India in future, says Arun Lal
“Rollercoaster Of Emotions”: PV Sindhu On Singapore Open Triumph
HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) Former India cricketer Arun Lal feels that Rishabh Pant has all the qualities in him to captain the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma. The 66-year-old Lal, who recently decided to step down as the head coach of the Bengal cricket team, lauded Pant’s ability to play game-changing knocks under pressure in both Test and limited-overs formats. “Yes, absolutely (On being asked if Rishabh Pant is the future captain after Rohit Sharma). I always feel that the captain must deserve his place among the top three in the team. He (Pant) is someone who is not afraid to play his game, can handle pressure well, can take the team out of tough situations and such a player can be a great leader. It will be good for Indian cricket if we can have an aggressive player like Pant as captain of the side,” Lal told Jagran TV. “There was a time when winning in Test cricket was considered once you secured yourself a draw. But this thinking has changed now and I give complete credit to Virat Kohli. He changed the mindset of the team and made the team play for a win without the fear of losing. Virat brought that aggression to the team and it can’t get any better if Pant can continue this. If Pant can play consistently, he will be a hero for the Indian team,” he added. However, it’s not necessary that if you play well in the white-ball format, you will be able to perform the same way in the red-ball format because in Test cricket, you need a different set of skills, the ability to handle different kind of pressure, physical fitness to sustain five-day cricket. Skincare alert:
Why you should not skip sunscreen even during monsoon It is commonly believed that sunscreen must be applied only when stepping out of the house. Similarly, many people skip applying sunscreen during the monsoon season as the sun is not as harsh and the weather, often, is cloudy. However, sunscreen must be applied at all times to protect the skin against various issues, say experts. “The ultraviolet (UV) rays are the most important extrinsic cause of skin aging. Sunrays, which consist of harmful UV and infrared rays, can cause a host of skin conditions like premature aging, tanning, freckles, lentigines, and sunburns,” she said, adding that these rays “easily pass through clouds in monsoon season and hit our skin. Clouds do not prevent us from UV rays. So, one should wear sunscreen even in monsoons to fight skin changes.”

The top court is hearing six petitions in the matter. One of them is from the Shinde camp and five from the Thackeray camp New Delhi: Following heated exchanges in the legal fight between two Shiv Sena factions, the Supreme Court today ordered that the status quo on disqualification notices moved by the two camps against legislators in the opposite side will continue. The Supreme Court issued notices to all parties and sought their response to the six petitions filed in the matter. The next hearing is on August 1.
Of the six petitions, one is from the Shinde camp and challenges disqualification proceedings initiated by Deputy Assembly Speaker Narhari Zirwal against legislators of the faction when they were in Guwahati. The five pleas by the Thackeray camp challenge the new Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s steps, Governor BS Koshyari’s order asking the Thackeray government to prove its majority and a petition seeking suspension of Shinde camp MLAs. Appearing for the Shinde camp, Harish Salve read out laws on disqualification proceedings. “Are we in such a hopeless situation that a man who cannot even find 20 MLAs to support him has to be brought back to power by the courts?,” he said. He said that MLAs from the Shinde camp have a right to democracy within the party and that raising your voice within the party is not defection or ground for disqualification. Responding to Mr Salve, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that laws apply to both the factions.

The court disbanded a special probe in UP against Mohammed Zubair and transferred all UP cases to Delhi. The judges also rejected the Uttar Pradesh government’s request that Mohammed Zubair be “stopped from putting out tweets”. “It’s like telling a lawyer to not argue any further. How can you tell a journalist he cannot write? If he does something that violates the law, then he is answerable to law. But how can we take anticipatory action against a citizen w hen he is raising his voice? Every citizen is answerable for what he does in public or private.
