Joe Biden warns Vladimir Putin over nuke attack
Joe Biden gets updated omicron booster shot
WASHINGTON: (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden rolled up his sleeve and received an updated COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, using the occasion to urge more Americans to get the booster before the upcoming holiday season, especially seniors.
Russian court rejects Brittney Griner jail appeal
A Russian court has rejected an appeal by US basketball star Brittney Griner against her nine-year jail term for drug charges.
The court near Moscow upheld the sentence, with the state prosecutor calling it “fair”.
The double Olympic winner apologised for her “honest mistake” in the appeal hearing via video link, saying it had been “very, very stressful”.
Griner, 32, was convicted in August of smuggling and possessing cannabis oil.
President Biden renewed his warning to President Vladimir V. Putin that it would be an “incredibly serious mistake” to use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, reflecting the increasingly urgent concern in Washington and among western allies that Russia may be searching for a pretext to unleash such a weapon.
Biden said on Tuesday that he was still uncertain if Russia was trying to put together a “false flag operation” in which it would detonate a dirty bomb and blame the Ukrainians. A dirty bomb is not a nuclear weapon, but an improvised device that uses conventional explosives

vaccines for the world, the White House said, acknowledging the crucial role the country played in supplying vaccines against COVID-19 globally.
“Because of its incredible manufacturing capacity, (India) has been a major exporter of vaccines,” Dr. Ashish Jha, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, told reporters at a news conference here on Tuesday.
to spread radioactive material. But it was clear from Biden’s comments that he is far less concerned about a dirty bomb than about the possibility that a set of incidents could result in Russia detonating a battlefield nuclear weapon, the first to be used in a conflict since the US dropped atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
“Let me just say: Russia would be making an incredibly serious mistake for it to use a tactical nuclear weapon,” Biden said in response to a reporter’s question about whether Russia was preparing a dirty bomb. “I’m not guaranteeing you that it’s a false flag operation yet, don’t know, but it would be a serious, serious mistake.”
“I’m calling on all Americans to get their shot just as soon as they can,” Biden said shortly before a doctor gave him the new shot.
With some Americans resistant to the vaccines, Biden urged them to put partisan politics aside, noting that more than 1 million people in the United States have died from COVID-19.
“We can do so much now to reduce the number of people who die from this disease. We have the tools, we have the vaccines, we have the treatments. None of this is about politics. It’s about your health and the health of your loved ones,” he said. Only 20 million people in the United States have received an updated COVID booster, and just one in five seniors, the White House said last week.
US vows full range of military defence of allies against North Korea
Dr. Ashish Jha claimed that Joe Biden had restored American leadership on global health in a way which is “very different from the previous President” India is an important manufacturer of
Responding to a question, Dr. Jha said the QUAD partnership – a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan and the US -- on coronavirus was important to the Joe Biden administration.
The United States will make full use of its military capabilities, including nuclear, conventional and missile defense,” to defend its allies Japan and South Korea, U.S. Deputy Secretary of
State Wendy Sherman said Tuesday as she warned North Korea against escalating its provocations. Sherman said North Korea’s repeated firings of ballistic missiles and artillery in recent weeks were provocative military actions. North Korea has described them as practice runs for the use of tactical nuclear weapons. This is deeply irresponsible, dangerous, and destabilizing, Sherman said in talks in Tokyo with South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyundong. The two officials met ahead of a three-way meeting with their Japanese counterpart on Wednesday.
Herschel Walker called abortion ‘hypocrite’ by second woman
Asecond anonymous woman has come forward to accuse an anti-abortion Georgia Senate candidate of pressuring her into terminating her pregnancy during their relationship. The unnamed accuser called Herschel Walker, a Republican, “a hypocrite” who is “not fit to be a US senator”. The exNFL star has denied both claims, calling the latest one “foolishness”. The Trump-backed candidate is running neck and neck with Democrat Raphael Warnock in November’s midterm race. The woman, who is only being named by her lawyer as “Jane Doe”, told reporters on Wednesday that she had a years-long relationship with Mr Walker while he was married and that he
had driven her to a clinic to ensure she terminated her pregnancy. She did not appear on camera during the virtual news conference in Los Angeles. “He has publicly taken the position that he is about life and against abortion under any circumstance when in fact he pressured me to have an abortion and personally ensured that it occurred by driving me to the clinic and paying for it,” she said. Her lawyer, Gloria Allred, cited exhibits including alleged love letters, a 1992 voicemail and a hotel receipt that she said proved the two had a relationship in the late 1980s and 1990s. The BBC has not inspected the purported evidence.

Suvella: Sunak faces heat
‘Big Fan of India, They Aren’t Strategic Rival’: Chinese Envoy Showers Praises
A top Chinese diplomat has said that “He is a big fan of India”, and the two countries can closely work together to resolve any economic, geopolitical, and other issues in this region and beyond.
The diplomat’s comments come on a day when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conveyed to the outgoing Chinese Ambassador in New Delhi Sun Weidong that peace and tranquillity in the border areas are essential for normal ties between India and China.
The House of Commons, which has seen many dramas over the centuries, witnessed another historic moment on Wednesday when Rishi Sunak took his seat for the first time for Prime Minister’s Questions.
This is a weekly affair when the Prime Minister has to fend off opposition bouncers aimed at the head.
On the whole, Rishi’s first PMQ didn’t go too badly.
The BBC’s political editor, Chris Mason, who was watching from the press gallery commented: “Conservatives have found their voices and smiles again. Both have been absent in recent weeks – their demeanour sullen, their heads sunk. Rishi Sunak played what Conservatives see as their greatest hits: Brexit, levelling up and talk of winning elections. The Tory backbenches lapped it up. Sunak sounded confident, but from here in the press gallery there was a sense of his nerves – his hand and leg twitching occasionally as he stood at the dispatch box.”

After that, China’s top diplomat in Bangladesh Li Jiming said that his country does not have any “strategic rivalry”

with India and does not want to see a “heavily armed” Bay of Bengal. Li also said that India is not a strategic rival of China. “We never view India as a strategic rival or strategic competitor of China,” Ambassador Li said during an interaction with diplomatic correspondents in Dhaka. “Personally, I’m a big fan of India. We can work together more closely to solve economic and geopolitical issues,” he added. In an apparent reference to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Li said Beijing expected all stakeholders in South Asia to play a positive role and it also wanted them not to act “the way some countries are doing (currently) in Europe”.

Navjit Kaur Brar, an Indo-Canadian healthcare worker has become the first turban-wearing Sikh woman to be elected as a city councillor of Brampton city in Canada.
Brar, a respiratory therapist, was on Monday elected the Brampton city Councillor in the recent municipal council polls after she won the race in Wards 2 and 6.
The mother of three beat Jermaine Chambers, a former Conservative MP candidate for Brampton West, as she secured 28.85 per cent of the votes cast.
Chambers, the nearest contender received 22.59 per cent and Carmen Wilson came in third at 15.41 per cent, the Brampton Guardian reported.
Tehran,: (IANS) At least 13 people were reportedly killed and 21 others injured in a “terrorist attack” at the Shahcheragh religious shrine in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz.
One woman and two children were among the victims, semi-official Fars news agency said in a report, adding that investigations showed that the security forces of the shrine were also targeted in this attack on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Although the earlier reports said three terrorists were behind the attack, the police commander of Fars province said there is one attacker and the one has been arrested. According to Fars, the perpetrator of this attack is an element of Takfiri groups.
Geneva,: (IANS) Hot weather has become a health risk for many nations, but new data shows that almost every child on earth will be affected by heatwaves by 2050, the Unicef warned in a new report. In the report released on Tuesday, the UN agency said that already around 559 million children are exposed to high heatwave frequency and around 624 million children are exposed to one of three other high heat measures -- high heatwave duration, high heatwave severity or extreme high temperatures. “By 2050, virtually every child on earth, over 2 billion children, is forecast to face more frequent heatwaves, regardless of whether the world achieves a ‘low greenhouse gas emission scenario’ with an estimated 1.7 degrees of warming in 2050 or a ‘very high greenhouse gas emission scenario’ with an estimated 2.4 degrees of warming in 2050,” it said.
Thai transgender activist buys Miss Universe org for $20M
BANGKOK -- A Thai business tycoon and transgender activist has purchased the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million, her company announced Wednesday.
Chakrapong “Anne” Chakrajutathib, who controls JKN Global Group Public Co. Ltd., is a celebrity in Thailand who has starred in reality shows and is outspoken about being a transgender woman. She helped establish a nonprofit group, Life Inspired For Transsexual Foundation, to promote trans rights.
JKN said it acquired the rights to the Miss Universe pageant from IMG Worldwide LLC, a sports, talent and events marketing company which has held the Miss Universe Organization since 2015.
A Thai business tycoon and transgender activist has purchased the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million
Former U.S. President Donald Trump was part owner of the pageant rights from 1996 until IMG’s purchase.
JKN said it has established a subsidiary in the United States, JKN Metaverse Inc., to own the Miss Universe Organization.
The Miss Universe pageant is broadcast in 165 countries, according to IMG.
In a statement, Chakrapong described the purchase as “a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.” JKN, which is involved in content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty and consumer products, said the Miss Universe name will be used to promote its consumer products. A profile of Chakrapong in the Bangkok Post newspaper earlier this year said in her youth, she studied at an all-male school where she was harassed for identifying as female.

Kejriwal coining a BJP clone
BJP vs AAP On Delhi “Garbage Mountain”, Arvind Kejriwal’s “Shravan” Call
Slamming BJP protests as “illogical”, Arvind Kejriwal underlines that he’s sent Delhi’s elderly citizens to free-of-cost pilgrimages
likely by the end of this year or in early 2023.
Slamming the BJP protests as “illogical”, Mr Kejriwal later underlined that he’d sent Delhi’s elderly citizens to free-ofcost pilgrimages, calling himself Delhi’s “Shravan Kumar”, the Ramayana hero known for taking his parents to shrines.
“For once, I urge BJP voters to forget party affiliations. We will clean up Delhi. I want to tell the mothers in Delhi, vote for your son who took you to pilgrimages,” he said.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday demanded that the images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha be printed on currency notes in addition to that of Mahatma Gandhi, falling back on faithbased tokenism ahead of the Gujarat polls and further crystallising its majoritarian tilt.
After Kejriwal made the demand, several AAP leaders addressed backto-back media conferences supporting the move and slamming the BJP for mocking the proposal. The media overdrive was similar to what the party did when it accused Rohingya and Bangladeshis — without proof — of complicity in the communal violence in the capital in April.
Cleverly set for India visit
New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal likened himself to a character from the Ramayana, while protesting BJP workers called him a liar, as the battle over upcoming elections reached one of Delhi’s largest garbage dumps, the saturated landfill at Ghazipur.
BJP workers protested with black flags and slogans ahead of the AAP boss’s visit. AAP workers countered with slogans against the BJP, which ran the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for over a decade before all three MCD divisions were dissolved to make one unified body. Elections to the unified MCD are
The rhetoric is getting sharper — and markedly religious — in light of elections in Gujarat too, where AAP is hoping to challenge an entrenched BJP.
With a demand to put images of Hindu deities on currency notes, Mr Kejriwal had yesterday made an apparent bid for the BJP’s core Hindutva vote.
At Ghazipur today, before he arrived, BJP workers stomped on AAP flags — some laid them out on the road and landed blows on them with sticks — as they briefly blocked the road that leads to the site. “Kejriwal, haye haye,” they cried, beating their chests. AAP workers, in retaliation just some feet away, beat their chests too, and sloganeered, “BJP murdabad”.
“New Era Of Gender Equality”: Same Match Fee For Men, Women Cricketers
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday made a big announcement, stating that the match fee for both men and women cricketers (contracted) will be the same. The decision to bring women cricketers on par with the men, in terms of match fee, is in many ways a landmark decision.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the contracted senior women’s cricketers will earn the same match fee as their male counterparts.
India has established early contact with the Rishi Sunak government as British foreign secretary James Cleverly is expected to follow up his telephone conversation with external affairs minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday with an India visit later this week. Cleverly is scheduled to visit India to participate in the special meeting of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) being hosted by the external affairs ministry in Mumbai and Delhi on Friday and Saturday.
“I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination.

Mississauga-based online news outlet Insauga said the fight took place in the Malton area, a video of which is making rounds on social media. The video shows police officers trying to separate crowds at a Diwali celebration. “One group can be seen waving Indian flags, while the other held banners supporting the Khalistan referendum movement,” according to Insauga.

“Honoured”: Joe Biden Hosts White House’s Biggest-Ever Diwali Celebration
Kamala Harris Shares Memories Of Celebrating Diwali As Child, India Visits
White House Diwali: “We have more Asian Americans than ever before in history and we want to thank you for making the Diwali celebration a joyous part of American culture,” US President Joe Biden said during a reception to celebrate Diwali at the White House.
Washington: White House on Monday hosted the biggest Diwali reception ever on Monday which also saw the presence of several Indian Americans from the Biden administration. “We are honoured to host you. This is the first Diwali reception of this scale in the White House ever to be held. We have more Asian Americans than ever before in history and we want to thank you for making the Diwali celebration a joyous part of American culture,” US President Joe Biden said during a reception to celebrate Diwali at the White House.

Sikhs, and Buddhists celebrating this Festival of Lights in the United States, India, and around the world, Biden thanked the Asian American community in the US for making the Diwali celebration a joyous part of American culture.
“As we host the official White House Diwali reception, we are honoured to light the diya surrounded by members of the most diverse Administration in American history--led by Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black American and South Asian American to become Vice President.”
In Inviting 3 Indian-Americans To Diwali Party, Biden Sends A Key Message
Washington: United States Vice President Kamala Harris attributed her success to the dedication, determination and courage of her Indian American mother.
Ms Harris is the first Indian-origin vice president of the US. “It is because of her dedication, her determination and her courage that I stand before you as vice president of the United States,” Ms Harris told a gathering of more than 200 eminent Indian Americans at a White House Diwali reception hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
She recollected her frequent visits to Chennai as a child and celebrating Diwali with grandparents.
“I have such fond memories of celebrating Diwali as a child. Like many of you, we would go to India about every other year, avoiding the monsoon season, and we would go for Diwali. I have such fond memories of waking up in the middle of the night, me and my sister Maya, and going, of course, to the eldest in our family, which was our grandfather.
Indian Embassy asks citizens to leave Ukraine
Suva: (IANS) Wishing the Indian community in Fiji on Diwali, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said that this year’s celebration is special as the world has won over the Covid pandemic. “I thank God we live in a country where we can so openly share in the celebrations of all our fellow Fijians... Fijians of all backgrounds have been draped in colourful sarees, salwar kameez and kurtas and workplaces have been decorated,” Bainimarama said in a video message posted on Twitter. A significant number of FijiIndians celebrate Ramlila and Diwali with traditional rituals, and they are part of the main events held on the islands. Like their Indian counterparts, people of Fiji celebrate Diwali with elaborate lighting and candle decorations. It is also a national holiday in the country.
Washington: In a show of solidarity with the Deferred Action Legal Childhood Arrivals (DALCA) children who are facing extradition from the US, President Joe Biden has invited three young Indian Americans to his Diwali reception.

Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said it seized jewellery worth ₹ 149.10 crore and recovered ₹ 1.96 crore in cash during a recent search operation at five locations in Hyderabad and Vijaywada in a case related to alleged cheating with MMTC.
Search operations were conducted at MBS Jewellers Pvt Ltd and Musaddilal Gems and Jewels India Pvt Ltd, and properties of directors Sukesh Gupta and Anurag Gupta in Hyderabad and Vijaywada on Monday.
Sukesh Gupta was arrested by ED on Tuesday. He was produced before the Special prevention of money laundering
act (PMLA) Court at Nampally, Hyderabad, on Wednesday and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

a public sector enterprise -- MMTC Ltd -- in the purchase of gold bullion under Buyer’s Credit Scheme.
The agency said Sukesh Gupta, in active connivance with a few officials of MMTC Hyderabad, had continuously lifted gold without forex cover and without adequate security deposits. Sukesh’s dues were consistently misreported to the MMTC head office and without squaring off the existing losses, his firms continued lifting more and more gold from MMTC for their personal gain, the agency said. Thereby, it ultimately caused a loss of public money to the tune of ₹ 504.34 crore to the public sector enterprise. CBI has filed a charge sheet against Sukesh Gupta and others.

$112,560 US Funding Helps Restore Hyderabad’s Qutb Shahi Heritage Complex
Hyderabad: The government of Telangana will distribute one crore Bathukamma sarees from tomorrow.
KT Rama Rao, the state’s Textiles and Handlooms Minister, said the initiative was launched in 2017 to support weavers and present a small token of appreciation to women. Mr Rao said the sarees will be distributed in the presence of ministers, MLAs and other public representatives.

Compared to last year, this year’s Bathukamma sarees offer a wider variety in terms of their design and colour. Rural women and designers from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) were consulted to ensure quality products. The minister said this year, the Textiles Department has prepared 240 types of threadbordered, 100 per cent polyester filament yarn sarees, using 24 different designs and ten attractive colours.
Mr Rao said that every woman in Telangana with a Food Security Card is eligible to receive a Bathukamma saree. Telangana government has spent ₹ 339.73 crore on the project, which provides weavers with employment.
Nearly 5.81 crore sarees have been distributed under this project since its launch.
Hyderabad: Newly-appointed United States Consul General Jennifer Larson and Telangana minister KT Rama Rao visited the historic Qutb Shahi Heritage Park Complex to mark the completion of a $112,560 (Rs 89.75 lakh) conservation project funded by the US Consulate in Hyderabad. The project is being executed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. It supports the conservation of five stepwells inside the complex, which will conserve 15 million litres of rainwater
and supply water to the 106-acre Heritage Park. “Hyderabad is not only a dynamic city with a bright future, it’s a historic city with a storied past,” said Ms Larson. “This is my first visit to the Qutb Shahi Tombs and it’s terrific to see first-hand how the Aga Khan Trust for Culture is leveraging US Consulate funding to conserve parts of this beautiful site.”
The Qutb Shahi Tombs Complex is the necropolis of the dynasty that ruled the region from 1518 to 1687. Hyderabad’s other major Qutb Shahi dynasty structures are the Golconda Fort and the 428-year-old ceremonial gateway Charminar. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture is working to develop these three sites in order for them to be recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, an initiative spearheaded through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Telangana Government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders across the political spectrum on Monday congratulated Rishi Sunak, who is set to take over as the first Indian-descent Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
“Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak! As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues, and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the ‘living bridge’ of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership,” Modi said in a tweet.

seven months. Liz Truss -- who pipped him to the post in the party’s internal election and succeeded Boris Johnson -- quit on October 20 after only 45 days in office.
Mr Johnson, who entered the race again last week, cutting short a Caribbean holiday, ended his bid for the post yesterday in a surprise decision. He said he would not be able to lead “a united party in parliament”. The other contender, Penny Mordaunt, failed to secure the numbers and dropped out of the race. Mr Sunak has the support of 180-plus members of the parliament - far above the 100-mark required to bag the top job.
Liz Truss had quit the top post after her plan for a mini-budget -- featuring massive unfunded tax cuts -- spooked markets. “Given the situation, I cannot carry out the mandate for which I was elected,” she had told the media.
UK is facing an economically toxic combination of recession and rising interest rates. Critics blame the economic downturn on the Conservative Party and what they call its “series of miscalculations”.
The pound rose briefly today as it became clear that Mr Sunak will be the next Prime Minister. “I want to fix our economy, unite our party and deliver for our country,” the Indian-origin former chancellor had said earlier. Rishi Sunak had criticised Liz Truss’s tax-cutting agenda during the contest for leadership earlier this year. He said he would cut taxes only after bringing inflation under control. He had also outlined a plan to cut income tax from 20% to 16% by 2029.
Mr Sunak’s being named to the UK top post on Diwali has elated many in India, where he is better known through his wife. Akshata Murty is the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy.
“Unite, Work For Good Of Nation”: Rishi Sunak’s First Message
Rishi Sunak called on his warring Conservative Party to unite as the UK’s incoming prime minister bids to fix the crisis facing the economy. Speaking less than an hour after emerging victorious in the race to succeed Liz Truss as premier, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer said his party needs to come together after ousting two prime ministers this year, according to a lawmaker present at Sunak’s address to MPs behind closed doors on Monday. Sunak spoke shortly after his last remaining rival, Penny Mordaunt, pulled out of the race for 10 Downing Street, urging her party to “unite and work together for the good of the nation.” That meant there was no need for a runoff vote among grassroots party members.
US President Joe Biden called the impending UK premiership of Rishi Sunak a “groundbreaking milestone”.
Biden, as most other world leaders, is still getting used to the Indiandescent Sunak’s name. He called him “Rashi”, which was a full vowel off Sunak’s actual first name Rishi. But that slip mattered little to his audience - Indian Americans at a White House celebration of Diwali hosted by the President and First Lady Jill Biden with Vice-President Kamala Harris, the first Indian-American elected to that office.
“We’ve got news Rashi... Rashi Sunak is now the Prime Minister,” Biden said to a cheering audience of Indian Americans, adding, “As my brother would say ‘Go figure’.”

Pit Stop In D.C. Samosa ban gaya American
Washington: (IANS) Samosa, that typically Indian snack, just became American.
Trader Joe’s, a US-wide grocery chain, recently launched samosas stuffed with pumpkin, which become a national obsession around this time of the year, leading up to Halloween, which is celebrated with Jack-o’-Lanterns cut out of pumpkins.
9bn rupees ($113m; £98m) for anti-competitive practices, in a second such penalty in less than a week.
The regulator accused Google of “abusing” its dominant position on the app store to force app developers to use its in-app payment system.
It asked the tech giant to not restrict app developers from using third-party billing or payment services.
Google said it was reviewing the allegations.
“By keeping costs low, our model has powered India’s digital transformation and expanded access for hundreds of millions of Indians,” a Google spokesperson told the BBC.
“We remain committed to our users and developers and are reviewing the decision to evaluate the next steps,” the spokesperson added.
In a 199-page order released on Tuesday, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) said that Google was implementing certain policies on its Play Store that required app developers to “exclusively” use its payments system for distributing or selling apps and in-app services.
The regulator asked Google to adopt eight remedies or operations adjustments within three months, including not restricting “app developers from using any third-party billing/ payment processing services, either for in-app purchases or
for purchasing apps”, according to Reuters.
“Google should ensure complete transparency in communicating with app developers and details about service fees charged,” the CCI added.
The order is the latest setback for Google, which is facing a series of anti-trust allegations in India.
Last week, the company was fined 13bn rupees ($161m; £144m) for using its Android platform to dominate the market.
The CCI said the tech giant was entering into forced agreements with players in the space to ensure that its bouquet of apps - such as Google Chrome, YouTube, Google Maps and others - were used.
The Android-related inquiry was started in 2019, following complaints by consumers of Android smartphones. The case is similar to the one Google faced in Europe, where regulators imposed a $5bn fine on the company for using its Android operating system to gain unfair advantage in the market.
Google had called CCI’s decision “a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses”, adding that it will review the order and decide on the next steps.
UK Minister for Trade Policy calls India an economic superpower
an FTA would improve access to its “dynamic market”, media reports said.
He said the government is negotiating an ambitious FTA that “works for both countries” and that the “majority of chapters” of the agreement have already been reached, with more rounds expected shortly, BBC reported.
Hands added that the deal would drive growth, support jobs across the UK, and help British goods to reach India’s growing middle class.
Labour MP Nick Thomas-Symonds had asked for an update on the progress of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
as Home Secretary just six days after she resigned over data breaches, saying he made a “grubby deal” with her, BBC reported. Sunak responded that Braverman “made an error of judgment”, has apologised, and he’s delighted to have her back in cabinet.
The pair also clashed over Sunak’s stated commitment to helping the most vulnerable - with Starmer questioning it. But Sunak says that he is honest about mistakes and economic difficulties, while accusing the Labour leader of “selling fairy tales”.
Pumpkins are injected into or used in everything from coffee to ice cream to waffles, pies, and breakfast cereals. Many of these concoctions are specially launched around this time for just this season and disappear off the shelves in a few weeks.
The same fate awaits Trader Joe’s “Spicy Pumpkin Samosa”.
Some Indians and Indian-descent Americans, who are wary of excessive westernisation of Indian cuisine, have responded with predictable horror, “No, Trader Joe’s. Just No”, said one of them. Social media has been full of similar postings chiding Trader Joe’s for this culinary infraction.
Others were less hostile, and more welcoming. “Trader Joe’s spicy pumpkin samosa is a testament that it is accepted around the world as a global dish and no longer a regional or ethnic dish”, said Chintan Pandya, the chef-cofounder of Adda and Dhamaka, the buzziest New York Indian cuisine restaurants.
“It’s a big step forward for Samosa as a dish and will open more food gates for regional Indian dishes. Hope it works so we can have Turkey Tikka in the Trader Joe’s aisle.”
Turkey is a staple of a typically American holiday, Thanksgiving. The traditional dish is a whole Turkey, mostly brined but not marinated, that is roasted for hours in an oven; it’s then ceremonially cut up for serving at dinner with stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, potatoes and pumpkin pie.

New UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced Labour leader Keir Starmer and other MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions. Starmer pressed him on the re-appointment of Suella Braverman
It comes after the government delayed announcing its plan to repair the UK’s finances until 17 November.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said the plan, originally due on Monday, would be upgraded to a full Autumn Statement - calling the delay “prudent”.
If anyone at Trader Joe’s heard Pandya, it should ‘Turkey Tikka’. Chicken Tikka, of its British cousin Chicken Tikka Masala, is a growing favourite in the west.
Indian-descent Americans recall a time they could not find samosas anywhere in the country. Most of them learnt to make them at home, if ingredients were available, which was also rare at the time.

Celebrating The Centennial Of HH Pramukh Swami Maharaj In Dallas
ST LOUIS, MO- Three people were killed in a shooting at a high school in St. Louis on Oct 24th, Monday morning, the police commissioner for the Metropolitan Police Department said. One of the deceased included the suspect, who was a former student.
Police commissioner Michael Sack said the shooter entered the Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in the 9 a.m. hour with a long gun, injuring several.
Sack said officers responded quickly and entered the building, following the
sound of gunfire.
When police approached the suspect, they exchanged gunfire. The suspect was hit, Sack said, and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Eight other people were taken to the hospital, Sack said, including a female teacher and a 16-year-old female student who were also pronounced dead. Sack said he believed their deaths were due to gunfire.
Seven other 15- and 16-year-old students, four boys and three girls, were all in stable condition. Four students suffered gunshot wounds or graze wounds, two suffered bruises and one
had a broken ankle. Sack said the doors were locked at the school and wouldn’t give details about how the suspect got indoors, but commended a “quick response” from school security.
Harris had the gun out when he arrived at the school and “there was no mystery about what was going to happen. He had it out and entered in an aggressive, violent manner.”
Sack said the motive was still under investigation but “there’s suspicions that there may be some mental illness that he’s experiencing.” Investigators later searched Harris’ home, Sack said. Aerial video from News Nation showed dozens of vehicles outside the school, including several ambulances. Dozens of students were also seen gathered at a corner in an apparent evacuation.

During their conversation, Tyson said, “I never thought any good would ever happen to me growing up in my environment, in my neighbourhood. You always feel bad, people died. It was just normal seeing people die, seeing prostitutes, seeing that kind of filthy stuff, it was normal. As a matter of fact, it was even honourable because it became so normal. We normalised it.”

“Working with Mr Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Neena Ji, Sarika Ji, Parineeti, and Danny sir make me feel incredibly proud. This is a very emotional film for me and this experience is beyond my words. I will cherish this for as long as I live. The film itself will be an experience for the viewers and all those who believe in goodness, kindness, friendships, and relationships will love this movie.
Vineet Kumar Singh
‘Aajkal kaam ke baare mein kam baat hoti hai’
Actor Vineet Kumar Singh made a mark in the movies when he appeared in 2017’s Mukkabaaz but despite the critical acclaim, Vineet’s success did not translate into many film offers. In a recent chat, Vineet said that he had expected his fortune to change after the Anurag Kashyap directorial but it did not happen because the industry is driven more by box office numbers than good performances.
In an interview on Unfiltered by Samdish, the actor said that more than one’s surname, or their performance, it is their box office record that matters.
“These days people talk less about work. They talk more about first day collection, second day collection and weekend collection.” When asked about the reason behind this, Vineet said, “It’s not about any surname or criteria. Irrfan (Khan)’s one film did Rs 100 crore business, I am sure even he wanted (to do big films).”
Ajay, Akshay avoid each other?
Even though Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar project themselves as friends, it seems there’s an undercurrent of rivalry that refuses to fade. The two actors, who had their films clashing on Diwali a few times in the past, are headed for another face-off this year too, as Ajay’s Thank God and Akki’s Ram Setu open in cinemas tomorrow. Interestingly, the two actors attended producer Anand Pandit’s Diwali party on Saturday night. However, they made sure to not bump into each other at the venue. We hear Akki walked in early and after chit-chatting with the host and other guests, left soon. A while later, Ajay sauntered in. He mingled with his colleagues for sometime and left. Nonetheless, the competition between their respective films is heating up. Anil Thadani, who is distributing Thank God, has written to the exhibitors to keep the prices of his film’s tickets 20 per cent lower than Ram Setu, to lure in the family audiences in big numbers.

Unversity Of Houston Gets $1M Gift To Upgrade Tech Lab From Indian American Entrepreneur
SUGAR LAND, TX- Prominent entrepreneur and University of Houston Distinguished Alumnus Brij Agrawal and his wife, Sunita, have pledged $1 million to fund manufacturing laboratory equipment at the UH College of Technology building in Sugar Land. In recognition of the Agrawals’ generosity, the building’s ground floor auditorium will be named the Brij and Sunita Agrawal Auditorium.
Brij Agrawal graduated from UH’s Cullen College of Engineering in 1988 with a degree in mechanical engineering, and quickly made a name for himself as the founder of numerous successful companies in manufacturing, fabrication and fast-casual restaurants.
He is the chief executive officer and president of VKC Group which operates more than 150 restaurants in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico.
Born in Lakhanpur, India, Agrawal moved to Houston at 17 and attended night school at UH while working fulltime. He credits his experience at UH for providing him the foundation to launch and sustain a successful career, and hopes his family’s investment will do the same for students in the Fort Bend County area. The Agrawals are longtime Sugar Land residents.
“I would not have graduated from college
if it wasn’t for the UH System. That is why I am so passionate about supporting UH. I live in Sugar Land and that makes me more attached to the UH at Sugar Land campus. I am thrilled to know the impact this gift will have on the students and faculty in terms of access to state-ofthe-art equipment in a modern academic building and campus in Sugar Land,” said Brij Agrawal.
The gift will fund the purchase of the latest 3D printers, machine tools and measuring test equipment, and the creation of an advanced manufacturing design center focused on small and medium scale industry. Advanced manufacturing, or the use of innovative
technologies to create new and existing products, is a key goal for the Advanced Technology and Innovation Center at UH at Sugar Land, an instructional site of the University of Houston.
The center is leading efforts in Fort Bend County – a region experiencing extensive tech business growth – to increase investment, economic development and workforce creation.
“I am grateful to Brij and Sunita Agrawal whose generosity will enhance the educational experience for our students and researchers to help create the next generation of technology innovators,” said Renu Khator, University of Houston president. “Having access to state-ofthe-art lab equipment is critical to building the skills necessary to excel in today’s rapidly developing technology workforce.”
The gift’s total impact could reach $3.5 million after matching gifts from the George Foundation, which will match $1 million, and the Texas Research Incentive Program (TRIP).
The Agrawals have been loyal supporters of the University for decades, also offering financial support for the construction of the first building at UH at Sugar Land. In addition, they established a Presidential Endowment to fund scholarships for UH engineering students.

HAMILTON, MS – Four people linked to viral video footage of Mississippi daycare employees using a scary mask to frighten young children are facing charges of felony child abuse, and a fifth person faces two misdemeanor counts, authorities say.
The daycare’s owner, Sheila Sanders, is not facing charges. She has said that at least four of the employees were fired after the video came to light. The videos — one filmed in September and another this month — were posted on social media. They show a daycare worker at Lil’ Blessings Child Care & Learning Center in Hamilton, an unincorporated community in northeast Mississippi, wearing a Halloween mask similar to the one in the “Scream” movies and yelling at children who didn’t “clean up” or “act good.” Children can be seen bawling, cowering in fear, and at times running from the masked employee. Another employee gives directions, singling out which children have acted good or bad.
The employee in the mask is shown screaming inches away from children’s faces, the video showed.
Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook said in a news release that four of the women each face three counts of felony child abuse.

USCIS Form And Policy Updates Remove Barriers
To Naturalization For Applicants With Disabilities
WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced updated policy guidance to clarify and conform with the revision of Form N-648, Medical Certification for Disability Exceptions. Consistent with this administration’s goal of removing barriers to legal immigration under President Biden’s Executive Order 14012, Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans, Form N-648 has been shortened and simplified, and new telehealth guidelines further remove barriers for applicants and medical professionals. The form revisions are also in response to this administration’s goal to remove barriers for underserved populations under Executive Order 13985, Advancing Racial and Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government. Changes were guided by public comments and feedback received in response to a Federal Register notice regarding the
form, and a Request for Public Input (RPI), Identifying Barriers Across USCIS Benefits and Services, both published in April 2021.
“This is a wonderful example of how USCIS is listening to the public it serves in order to better address their needs, while fulfilling our responsibilities as an agency,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou. “The changes made to Form N-648 are yet another way
in which USCIS is removing barriers to naturalization, in accordance with President Biden’s Executive Order 14012 and EO 13985.”
Naturalization applicants with a physical or developmental disability or mental impairment that precludes them from fulfilling the English and civics testing requirements for naturalization, may file Form N-648 to request an exception to those requirements. The form must

to food banks and pantries. Thus far in 2022, more than 8 million pounds of food has been donated nationwide through the federal campaign. CBP donated just over 33,000 pounds, highlighting the Port of Champlain who solely donated almost half of that total.
Since June, the Port of Champlain employees found unique and fun ways to support this initiative. They had chili cookoffs, pie in the face games, and a friendly competition between their passenger, cargo, and tactical teams to see who could raise the most donations. The cargo and passenger teams were even in raising approximately 2,500 pounds of food each, but it was the tactical team that took the win with over 9,400 pounds of food collected. Collectively, 14,410 pounds of food was donated to the JCEO and the staff was beyond grateful for this overwhelming act of generosity.
be completed and certified by a medical professional.
Based on public comments, revisions to Form N-648 reduce burdens on applicants and the agency by eliminating questions and language that no longer have practical utility or were redundant. Most notable changes include elimination of questions about how each relevant disability affects specific functions of the applicant’s daily life, including the ability to work or go to school. The form revisions also eliminate dates of diagnosis, description of severity of each disability, and whether the certifying medical professional has a pre-existing relationship with the applicant. Further, the form revision allows the medical professional the option to indicate an applicant’s need for an oath waiver, thereby eliminating the need for separate medical documentation. The updated policy also provides guidance for telehealth medical examinations and allows USCIS to accept applicant’s Form N-648 after they file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.

That 6.1 percent change far outpaced job growth in all other parts of New York, according to the data.

“Chup Kar Dia Na Sabko”: Ravi Shastri On Virat Kohli
Rishi Sunak became the leader of the Conservatives yesterday after his former boss Boris Johnson called off his comeback bid and rival Penny Mordaunt failed to secure enough backing from Tory MPs
London: Rishi Sunak has been appointed Britain’s Prime Minister by King Charles III, the palace said in a statement today.
Mr Sunak, 42, became the leader of the Conservatives yesterday after his
former boss Boris Johnson called off his comeback bid and rival Penny Mordaunt failed to secure enough backing from Tory MPs.
The Indian-origin Prime Minister is the youngest to hold the UK’s top post in 200 years.
Sunak faced a risk till the last moment because under the rules of the contest the candidates who received the support of more than 100 MPs could move forward to the second stage of the contest where they could seek the support of around 160,000 Conservative Party members around the country. Mordaunt’s exit has ended that threat.
“Was Appointed To Fix Mistakes”: Rishi Sunak’s First Address As PM
London: Rishi Sunak has been appointed Britain’s Prime Minister by King Charles III, the palace said. Mr Sunak, 42, became the leader of the Conservatives yesterday after Boris Johnson called off his comeback bid and Penny Mordaunt didn’t get enough backing.
Right now our country is facing a profound economic crisis...Putin war in Ukraine has destabilised markets the world over... Not ill intentioned, in fact the opposite, nonetheless mistakes,” Mr Sunak told reporters after meeting King Charles.
The air quality in Delhi on the morning after Diwali was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category but the situation was relatively better than previous years due to favourable meteorological conditions which diluted the effect of firecrackers and stubble burning.
According to forecasting agencies, the city is set to record its best air quality for the day after Diwali since 2015 on Tuesday.
Vadodara: 19 held for Diwali clashes
Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that those shots played by Virat are the best ever played by any Indian batter.
“In all my years of playing and watching India vs Pakistan, those two sixes off Haris Rauf are two of the greatest shots played by an Indian batsman. The only comparison is Sachin Tendulkar’s six off Shoaib Akhtar in Centurion in 2003 World Cup. These are two of the greatest cricketers of our time. Tendulkar’s knock had some of the magnificent shots played in white-ball cricket against Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar. And then this Kohli knock. These two are the biggest knocks I have seen where quality fast bowling has been taken apart,” Shastri told. “For the cricketing world, he was a superstar even before the knock; now let them decide what he is to them. I am not going to put in words for them. What’s next for Virat Kohli? I have no expectations, just let him enjoy his life. The media and critics have put enough pressure on this uncut diamond and he showed who he is. Chup kar diya na sabko?! (He has silenced everyone, right),” said Shastri.
“I will unite our country not with words but action. I will work day in and day out to deliver. Trust is earned, and I will earn...It is a mandate that belongs to and unite all of us. At the heart of the mandate is our manifesto,” Mr Sunak said. The Indian-origin leader is the youngest to hold the UK’s top post in 200 years and the first Hindu Prime Minister of Britain. Mr Sunak is Britain’s third Prime Minister this year, after Liz Truss left office just 49 days into her term. The new premier inherited a daunting array of problems.
Departing Downing Street, Ms Truss wished Sunak “every success” and said she remained “more convinced than ever” that Britain needed to be “bold” in confronting the challenges it faced.

Make public details of 75,000 jobs: Congress to Modi
Bengaluru: (IANS) In the wake of detection of BF.7 Omicron sub-variant in different parts of India, experts have called for diligent following of Covid-19 protocols in Karnataka, said Navodaya Gilla, Consultant -- Internal medicine,
This is because the new variant quickly bypasses the immunity that a person has developed through a natural infection with an earlier variant or even if the complete course of the vaccines are taken, he added. Due to this there is an expectation that the world might see a fourth wave of the pandemic.
This new Omicron variant was first detected in China and India has seen its first case of this variant in Gujarat.
The Congress has asked the government to provide details of the 75,000 jobs for which appointment letters were issued at Sunday’s Rozgar Mela, addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing doubts about the veracity of the exercise.
“The 75,000 beneficiaries who you claim to have given jobs, please put out their names and phone numbers and the departments where they will work,” Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil said.
“Create a dedicated website and make the information public. Anybody can check who got the jobs in the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Mela.”

Boris Johnson Asks Rishi Sunak To Stand Down “To Save Party
Rishi Sunak may be the frontrunner to become the next UK PM, but Boris Johnson is urging him to stand down and let him come back to replace Liz Struss, reports in British media say. Liz Truss had replaced Mr Johnson barely six weeks ago after defeating Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership race. Mr Sunak, a former finance minister, is now the logical next choice, at least according to bookmakers. But Boris Johnson is making a larger point to Conservative MPs — that only he can save the party from facing defeat in the elections due in December 2024, said a report in The Telegraph, London.

Melbourne, Oct 23 (IANS) In the build-up to the India-Pakistan Super 12 clash of Mens T20 World Cup at a sell-out Melbourne Cricket Ground, rain threatened to disrupt the biggest match of the tournament. But it set the base for one of the most thrilling cricket matches of the year.

No Hot Food On Menu, Team India Unhappy With AfterPractice Meal: Report
The Indian cricket team wasn’t exactly pleased with the after-practice menu on Tuesday and a few members decided to have food back in their hotel rooms. It is understood that the after-practice menu is almost the same for all teams and Indian players are not being provided with hot food, which according to BCCI sources is a must after an intense training session. The Indian team had an optional training session on Tuesday where all the fast bowlers were rested alongside all-rounder Hardik Pandya, batter Suryakumar Yadav and spinner Axar Patel.
Posers on Shaheen fitness
Former Pakistan skipper Salim Malik has raised questions over Babar Azam’s captaincy after the team suffered a narrow defeat against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. After setting a target of 160, Pakistan were in control of the proceedings for the majority of the game. However, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 82, as well as some close calls, swung the game away in India’s favour. Malik feels that Babar is making the same mistakes again and again, adding that the star batter should quit captaincy. If you are still not able to lead the team after so many years of cricket, you should leave the captaincy. If you making the same mistakes again and again, you should leave the captaincy. Commonwealth Games gold medallists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty rallied to beat France’s Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov to enter the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals of the French Open Super 750 tournament in Paris, on Tuesday. The Indian duo lost the first game 19-21, but recovered strongly to win the next two 21-9 21-13 in their round of 32 match. However, Birmingham Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand bowed out of the tournament after losing in straight
games in their opening women’s doubles match.
Treesa and Gayatri put up a gallant fight before losing 21-23 20-22 to sixth seeded Thai pair of Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai. In the mixed doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto also couldn’t cross the first round, losing 13-21 16-21 to Japan’s Kyohei Yamashita and Naru Shinoya.
After two reverses, world number 8 Rankireddy and Chirag ended the day on a positive note for India.
The Pakistan Crick- down as coach are facing numerous questions on whether premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has recovered enough from a knee injury to be match fit for the ongoing T20 World Cup
Former fast bowling greats, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, former captain Misbah-ul Haq and Lahore Qalanders head coach Aaqib Javed all are of the opinion that Shaheen looked short of match fitness and practice during Sunday’s game against India in Melbourne.

“Captaincy Nahi Aati To Aapko Chor Deni Chaiye”: Ex-Pakistan Skipper Lashes Out At Babar Azam
If you are one of those who believes in late dinners and midnight snacking, then know that you alone are the cause of many illnesses and conditions. Now these are completely avoidable if you shift the heavier food during the earlier part of the day, preferably in the first half.
A new study by investigators from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a founding member of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system, has found that eating late at night may increase one’s likelihood of developing obesity as it increases hunger, burns less calories and changes fat tissue.
HOW MEAL TIMINGS AFFECT
BODY FAT
Decoding the findings, Priyanka Rohatgi, Chief Clinical Dietitian at Apollo Hospital, says that the timing of eating significantly impacts the energy expenditure, appetite and molecular pathways in adipose tissue. “Snacking at night is frequently done while streaming, watching television or even reading. Your attention is probably on the television show or book you’re reading rather than the number of calories you’re taking in. Obesity and metabolic syndrome are risk factors for late eating. It could be time to break the habit if you frequently visit the kitchen in the hours before night,” she adds
HOW TO FIX MEAL TIMINGS
Dr Ghosh advises the age-old “breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and have dinner like a poor man” mantra which implies the quantity not quality of food at different times of day. “For ages we have been told to eat less for dinner, now the reason for the same is shown in this study,” she adds.
According to Khatuja, light and meal timings are the most powerful external influences that affect the body clock
Eating late might make you OBESE
Healthy eating: Four best protein sources your body needs
Light and meal timings are the most powerful external influences that affect the body clock and this needs to be synchronised with the master clock. This needs to be done so that we do not disrupt the cardiac circadian rhythm.
and this needs to be synchronised with the master clock. This needs to be done so that we do not disrupt the cardiac circadian rhythm. Besides, our cellular repair happens only six hours after our last food intake and it picks up over another six hours. In total, 12 hours are needed for full body cleaning after
our last meal. So we are shortening the time window to heal ourselves. Cued to a circadian rhythm, our pancreas makes a lot of insulin in the morning and early afternoon but slows down by mid-afternoon. By night, the insulin in our bloodstream drops further, so glucose stays longer in our arteries. “As a clinical nutritionist, I would suggest everybody to have meals early, keep them light and include a lot of fibre in the diet. This should be teamed up with half-an hour to 45 minutes of physical activity because meal timings can have a direct impact on your body metabolism and thus protect you from various degenerative diseases,” she adds.
There are many reasons why one should add plenty of protein-rich foods to their diet. It is understood that proteins help to structure and support the cells, build immunity and are useful for hormone synthesis. Once consumed, proteins break down into amino acids, which are further used for metabolic processes in the body.
1. Almonds:
They are a rich source of protein, and can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Almonds can be consumed raw, soaked, and can also be added to salad bowls. They are an easy and safe option for protein on-the-go. A study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that a daily snack of 42 grams of almonds — consumed as part of an overall healthy diet — improved several heart disease risk factors, whereas 30 grams/23 almonds may improve type-2 disease factors.
2. Tofu:
Like other soy-based foods, tofu contains plant estrogens that may help reduce coronary heart disease factors. It contains iron, calcium, and 12–20 grams of protein per 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving. While tofu doesn’t have much taste on its own, it easily absorbs the flavour of the ingredients it is prepared with.
Additionally, experts point out that the most common foods we run to when stressed are often high in saturated fats and sugars. “The nutrient quality is not the main issue.
But once we allow ourselves to stress eat for a few days, we subconsciously consider it the only way to cater our emotions and it becomes difficult to get out of it. Always remember that there is no harm in taking a break but do not let it be a habit. Habits turn into lifestyle and a lifestyle with bad food habits can lead to disease,” Dr Rohini Patil, MBBS, nutritionist and CEO of Nutracy Lifestyle said.
Why should you stop?
Do you often reach out for that packet of chips or sweets whenever you feel stressed? According to experts, it could be a sign of emotional eating or stress eating that can wreak havoc on your fitness and overall health. But what exactly is it, and why does it happen? We spoke to experts to understand more.
Why is emotional eating?
Most of the time emotional eating occurs because of high tendencies of negative emotions, low resilience, high stress, and anxieties, said Dr (PhD) Syed Zafar Sultan Rizvi, assistant professor, Department of Psychology, SLA, Noida International University.
“This type of (emotional) eating causes many problems that include obesity and sudden weight gain (due to unhealthy eating habits). Most of the research shows that 60 per cent of overeating is due to emotional eating behaviour in which a person suffers from emotional imbalance or negativity that leads towards fulfilling activities like eating,” Rizvi elucidated.
Besides affecting your fitness levels, such eating can hamper your immunity, too Dr Rizvi mentioned. Experts suggest that while focussing on the triggers, and not letting oneself feel deprived, one should look to engage themselves in other activities at such times. “If we can properly work on habit formation, like healthy diet and meditation regularly, then we can get rid of the emotional eating habits. Controlling thoughts and negative emotion through conceptualisation of problems and solving them through rational thinking is the best way ahead,” Rizvi said.
Here are tips to help you, as shared by fitness influencer Sim Valecha.
Ň Find other activities to deal with negative emotionswriting in a journal, reading a book etc.
Ň Start a food diary – note what you’re eating in a day so at the end of the day, you can look back and think today was different compared to yesterday and identify the trigger
Ň Think about the quantity of food you are consuming when emotional eating – instead of eating an entire tub of ice cream you can take it out into a bowl and eat.
Ň Seek support: Talk to a friend or join support groups.
3. Chia seeds: Chia seeds are known for their health benefits. The antioxidants, minerals, fibre, protein and omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds may promote heart health, support strong bones, and improve blood sugar management. The mild, nutty flavour of chia seeds makes them easy to add to foods and beverages. They are most often sprinkled on cereal, sauces, vegetables, rice dishes, or yogurt or mixed into drinks and baked goods. They can also be mixed with water and made into a gel.
4. Quinoa:
Quinoa is a grain crop, which is a good source of a number of important nutrients, including folate, magnesium, zinc, and iron. It is also rich in fibre and protein, nutrients that play an important role in helping you feel full.
Adding quinoa to the diet may help promote body weight maintenance, overall health, protect against certain diseases, and improve overall mortality.
There are also other options like lentils, granola, cottage cheese, chickpeas, peanut butter, edamame, lean beef, canned tuna, etc.
