Biden approves emergency declaration for NY after historic snowfall

Washington: (IANS) The White House said that US President Joe Biden had approved an emergency declaration for the state of New York after historic snowfall.

Biden had also ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local response efforts to address the aftermath of a severe winter storm and snowstorm, the White House said in a statement on Monday.

Additionally, the federal government named a coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in areas affected by the storm.

According to a statement issued by New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, the emergency declaration is for the counties of Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Jefferson, Lewis, Niagara, Oneida, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Wyoming.\

The House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee has been seeking access to Mr Trump’s taxes since 2019.

Mr Trump, who launched his third campaign for the White House last week, is facing multiple investigations related to his business practices. He denies any wrongdoing.

The US Supreme Court has ordered former President Donald Trump’s tax forms to be released to a Democraticcontrolled congressional committee. The move is a major blow to Mr Trump, who has tried for years to shield his tax returns from becoming public. Mr Trump became the first president

Pramila Jayapal not in race for Democratic leadership

Washington, :(IANS) Putting an end to speculation of entering the House Democratic leadership race, Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said she will run for re-election as Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair. Jayapal also said that she would be endorsing President Joe Biden running for a second term in 2024. The first Indian-American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives, she was re-elected to her fourth term in Congress during the November 8 midterm polls.

“I am writing with humility, intentionality, and excitement to ask for your support to serve a second term as Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus,” the 57 year-old wrote in a letter to her colleagues.

Tuesday’s ruling allows a lower court’s order to stand, authorising the documents to be handed over to the committee.

It supersedes an order issued by Chief Justice John Roberts on 1 November that put the request on hold as the panel’s nine judges deliberated.

Suspect held after Chinese nationals killed at US cannabis farm

A suspect has been held in the killings of four Chinese nationals on Sunday at a rural marijuana farm in the US state of Oklahoma, investigators say.

Wu Chen, 45, was arrested on Tuesday 1,500 miles (2,400km) away in Florida, said law enforcement officials.

The bodies were found after police received a call of a hostage situation near the town of Hennessey, 55 miles north of Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma allows medical cannabis. It is unclear if the farm was licensed. Police say the suspect entered a building on the marijuana operation’s property at 17:45 local time (23:45 GMT) on Sunday, when there were “several employees” inside.

Biden extends student loan repayments freeze amid lawsuits

education department has delayed requiring student loans to be repaid.

President Joe Biden said his student loan forgiveness plan is 100% “legal”.

A federal judge in Texas struck down the plan on 10 November after a lawsuit filed by a conservative group on behalf of two borrowers who did not qualify for all of the programme’s benefits.

Days later, a St Louis, Missouri-based US court of appeals granted an injunction by six Republican-led states against the programme. The White House then asked the Supreme Court to unblock the plan.

The programme stopped accepting new applications, citing the litigation.

Mr Biden said in a video posted on Twitter on Tuesday: “Republican special interests and elected officials sued to deny this relief even for their own constituents.

The official could not discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Information on a lawyer who could speak on Aldrich’s behalf wasn’t immediately available Monday.

Club Q on its Facebook page thanked the “quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack”.

GSK to stop selling blood cancer drug Blenrep in United States

Mr Biden announced his plan in August to cancel up to $20,000 (£16,800) per person in student debt, or $10,000 for Americans who earn less than $125,000 per year.

GSK (GSK.L) will stop selling its blood cancer drug Blenrep in the United States, it said on Tuesday, in another setback for the British drugmaker’s oncology business.

The company had said this month that Blenrep had failed the main goal of a key study designed to show it was better than an existing treatment on the market, stoking fears that regulatory approval could be rescinded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The drugmaker’s shares were down 0.2% at 1345 GMT.

The 5.6 magnitude quake struck a mountainous region on Monday, causing landslides that buried entire villages near the West Java town of Cianjur. Victims were crushed or trapped after walls and roofs caved in. “It all happened so fast,” Aprizal told AFP news agency. A representative of the National Search and Rescue Agency also confirmed that many of the dead were young people.

“Most of the casualties are children because at 1pm, they were still at school,” said Henri Alfiandi.

India and Australia would now implement the free trade agreement on a mutually agreed date as the Australian Parliament on Tuesday approved the pact between the two countries, an official said on Tuesday.

“BREAKING: Our Free Trade Agreement with India has passed through parliament,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a tweet.

The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) needed ratification by the Australian parliament before its implementation. In India, such pacts are approved by the Union Cabinet.

Beijing facing ‘most severe Covid test’ as China reports first deaths in six months

Beijing says it is facing its most severe Covid test yet after it saw the country’s first coronavirus deaths in six months and cases continue to soar.

A massive fire at a cloth manufacturing company in central China’s Henan province has killed at least 38 people, local officials said on Tuesday. It took firefighters more than four hours to douse the fire that broke out on Monday at the plant in the Wenfeng district of Anyang city in Henan province, according to the city’s publicity department.

Firefighters put out the fire at around 11 pm on Monday, it said.

Thirty-eight people were killed and two others were injured in the blaze, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The injured persons have been hospitalised.

Taliban lash women in public

Three deaths have been reported in the Chinese capital since Saturday, bringing the country’s official death toll to 5,229. The latest fatalities have plunged parts of the city home to more than 21 million back into lockdown. The deaths come amid rare protests over China’s zero-Covid policy.

Vladimir Putin touts Russia’s Arctic power

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday touted Russia’s Arctic power at a flagraising ceremony and dock launch for two nuclear-powered icebreakers that will ensure year-round navigation in the western Arctic.

The Taliban have publicly lashed women accused of adultery and trying to flee in the first large-scale use of corporal punishment since the group returned to power. The public punishments in northeastern Afghanistan mark the beginning of the Taliban’s rollout of Islamic law in the country.

Presiding via video link from the Kremlin at the launch ceremony in the former imperial capital of St Petersburg in northern Russia, Putin said such icebreakers were of strategic importance for the country.

“Both icebreakers were laid down as part of a large serial project and are part of our large-scale, systematic work to re-equip and replenish the domestic icebreaker fleet, to strengthen Russia’s status as a great Arctic power,” Putin said.

The Arctic is taking on greater strategic significance because of climate change, as a shrinking ice cap opens up new sea lanes. Vast oil and gas resources lie in Russia’s Arctic regions, including a liquefied natural gas plant on the Yamal Peninsula.

The controversial strategy - which aims to eradicate outbreaks - has seen millions locked down and citizens who have tested positive for the virus forcibly quarantined.

In Beijing, officials have already implemented a lockdown in the Haidian and Chaoyang districts, with shops, schools and restaurants closed.

Those travelling to the capital will also have to do tests for the first three days of their visit, and stay inside until they are given the all-clear.

Millions of other people across the vast country are also under Covid lockdowns, as cases continue to soar despite the efforts of authorities. On Sunday, 24,730 new cases were recorded, nearing the country’s daily infection peak in April.

Beijing reported 316 new Covid cases to 15:00 on Monday, according to Reuters news agency. Among the three deaths reported since Sunday afternoon was an 87-year-old man.

World Cup 2022: Iran players decline to sing national anthem

Iran declined to sing their national anthem before their World Cup match with England in an apparent expression of support for antigovernment protests in their home country.

Some fans shouted and jeered during the anthem and others held up signs saying “Woman, Life, Freedom”.

Iran state TV cut its coverage of the anthem and switched to a previously shown wide shot of the stadium.

Mass protests have been met with a fierce crackdown in recent months.

They have been sparked by the death in custody in September of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was detained by morality police for allegedly breaking the strict rules around head coverings. Human rights activists have said more than 400 protesters have been killed and 16,800 others arrested in a crackdown by Iran’s security forces.

After 16 months, India envoy a US ‘priority’

The White House on Monday said it was committed to ensure that its nominee for Indian ambassador, Eric Garcetti, made it through the Senate confirmation despite the process being stalled for over 16 months, resulting in the US embassy functioning without a full-time envoy for nearly two years now.

Garcetti, who is the mayor of Los Angeles and was cochair of Joe Biden’s successful presidential campaign in 2020, was nominated for the post of Indian ambassador on July 10, 2021, but his Senate confirmation was blocked by a Republican senator over the alleged mishandling of sexual harassment charges against a top aide by him and his staff.

Must Have “Best Man” As Election Body Chief: Supreme Court’s Big Remarks

New Delhi: The Constitution has vested enormous powers on the “fragile shoulder” of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and it is important that “someone of strong character” is appointed to the post, the Supreme Court has said.

The court pointed out yesterday that the “situation on the ground is alarming” and that it wants a CEC like late T N Seshan, known for bringing key electoral reforms as the poll panel chief from 1990 to 1996.

The five-judge Constitution bench headed by Justice K M Joseph was hearing a petition seeking reforms in the system of appointing election commissioners.

The bench, also comprising Justices Ajay Rastogi, Aniruddha Bose, Hrishikesh Roy and C T Ravikumar, said its endeavour is to put a system in place

so that the “best man” is selected as the CEC.

“There have been numerous CECs and T N Seshan happens once in a while. We do not want anyone to bulldoze him. Enormous power has been vested on the fragile shoulder of three men (CEC

Adani’s mega port hangs in the balance as a fishing community protests

and two election commissioners). We have to find the best man for the post of CEC,” the court said.

“What is important is that we put a fairly good procedure so that apart from competence, someone of strong character is appointed as the CEC,” the court told Attorney General R Venkataramani, who appeared for the Centre.

The government’s counsel said that the government is not going to oppose the appointment of the best man, but the question is how can it be done. “There is no vacuum in the Constitution. Election commissioners are presently appointed by the president on the aid and advice of the council of ministers,” he said.

The bench said that since 1990, several voices, including BJP veteran LK Advani, have called for a collegium-like system for appointments to constitutional bodies, including the Election Commission.

BJP Cracks Down On Gujarat Rebels, Suspends 12 More Ahead Of Polls

New Delhi: Leaving behind their bullet-proof vehicles, four US woman diplomats have taken to the streets of the capital with their “personalized auto-rickshaws” in their “out-of-thebox” diplomacy style.

Ann L Mason, Ruth Holmberg, Shareen J Kitterman and Jennifer Bywaters love to go with their Black and Pink three-wheelers by driving themselves for all their work including the ‘official trips’. These diplomats have taken to the common man’s commute not just for fun, but also to set an example. Speaking to ANI, the diplomats shared their experience of learning this distinct mode of transport and how diplomats driving the auto-rickshaws is a rare exception!

VIZHINJAM India: On the main road to billionaire Gautam Adani’s planned Vizhinjam mega port on the southern tip of India, a shelter built by the coastal region’s Christian fishing community blocks the entrance, preventing further construction.

The simple 1,200 square-feet structure with a corrugated-iron roof has since August stood in the way of ambitions for the country’s first container transhipment port - a $900 million project that seeks to plug into the lucrative shipping trade flowing between juggernaut manufacturers in the East and wealthy consumer markets in the West.

Decorated with banners proclaiming “indefinite day and night protest”, the

shelter provides cover for roughly 100 plastic chairs, although the number of protesters taking part in the sit-ins on any one day is usually much lower. Across the street, supporters of the port including members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party and Hindu groups have set up their own shelters. Even when protester numbers are low, up to 300 police officers with batons will gather nearby each day to carefully monitor the situation. Despite repeated orders by Kerala state’s top court that construction should proceed unhindered, the police are unwilling to take action against the protesters, fearful that doing so will set flame to social and religious tensions simmering over the port.

New Delhi/Ahmedabad: After facing rebel candidates on almost every third seat in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP is now facing a similar problem in its 27-year stronghold Gujarat, leading to mass suspensions of such leaders. It suspended 12 more, including a six-time MLA and two former MLAs, on Tuesday for filing nominations as independent candidates for the upcoming assembly elections after they were denied the party ticket. The number is now up to 19. The suspension is for six years, during which they can’t remain members of the party.

In Layoff Season, Google Too Preps For Purge, May Cut 10,000 Jobs: Report

Google’s outlier status amid staff cuts by fellow tech giants is set to go as its parent company Alphabet, too, plans to fire a significant chunk of its workforce -- around 6 per cent, or 10,000 people. It’ll be done after identifying those who are performing below expectations, insiders have said. But at the nub of the impending cut is the tough -- and worsening -- global financial situation, according to tech news portal The Information.

Team managers have been asked to

evaluate staff in a new “ranking and performance improvement plan”. The purge may begin by early 2023, meaning just another few weeks. In the previous performance review system,

managers were expected to put 2 per cent of employees in that bucket.

Google or Alphabet hasn’t confirmed any layoff plans as yet. NDTV has reached out to Google for a comment on the report. But chief executive Sundar Pichai had hinted at it a couple of months ago. He had said that Google believes as a company that “when you have fewer resources than before, you are prioritizing all the right things to be working on and your employees are really productive…”.

Ahead of polls, Australian MP woos Indians, Sikhs

Melbourne: (IANS) Ahead of the impending election in Australia’s Victoria state, its premier and Labour MP Daniel Andrews, visited religious shrines, and promised cultural grants for the Indian and Sikh communities upon his victory.

Led by Andrews, the incumbent Labor government is seeking a third successive four-year term in the November 26 elections in Victoria, which boasts of nearly 276,770 people of Indian origin.

On his recent visit to the New Sri Durga Temple in Melbourne last week,

Andrews promised that his government will invest A$10 million in Indian projects, if the party is re-elected at the state election.

“The story of Indian migration and its strength comes from its diversity... And there is no other community that works harder than the Indian community,” he said in September, as campaigning for elections took off.

The Labour leader on Wednesday visited a Gurudwara in Blackburn where he said that there will be significant grants for the Sikh community from the A$10 million fund. The Premier raised the

prospect of organising the ‘biggest Langar’ at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which would see participation from gurdwaras from across the state. Lighting up significant government buildings in Melbourne with saffron colour for Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday every year, will also be among the initiatives taken by the party, if voted to power. According to the 2021 census, the Sikhs form one of the largest subgroups of Indian-origin people in Australia with 210,000 adherents having grown from 12,000 in 1996, 17,000 in 2001, 26,500 in 2006 and 72,000 in 2011.

With the world’s second largest population, many feel India is underrepresented in the world’s most popular sport - the national team languishes in 106th spot in Fifa’s rankings.

Though India qualified in 1950, they have never actually made it to the World Cup. They refused to participate, partly because it would have meant their normally barefoot team having to wear football boots.

But every time the World Cup is held, India’s football fans do crazy things to express their love for the sport, and their favourite international team.

They save up for months to travel to watch the games; hold mock-matches sporting their favourite team’s jerseys; predict who will win the championship and take out colourful processions to celebrate their team’s victories.

Recently, fans erected a 30ft-tall cut-out of Lionel Messi in a river in Kozhikode. Not to be one-upped, fans of Christiano Ronaldo and Neymar soon erected cutouts of their idols. These outlandish additions to the river invited a lot of media attention, and even Fifa tweeted about them.

For many Keralites, Qatar is also like a second home, as thousands work or have set up businesses in the middleeastern country. Several of them have worked for firms who have built stadia for the World Cup.

TV networks in Kerala have also captured expatriate fans of teams from other countries, celebrating on the street, wearing the team’s colours and waving their national flag.

US varsity updates policy, allows Sikh students to wear kirpan on campus

New York: (IANS) The University of North Carolina, Charlotte, has updated its ‘Weapons on Campus’ policy to allow Sikh students to wear a kirpan, a religious expression of faith, on campus.

The move comes about two months after a Sikh student at the university was arrested on campus for wearing the ceremonial dagger.

According to the updated policy, the university will allow students to wear kirpans on campus as long as the blade length is under 3 inches and is “worn close to the body in a sheath at all times”.

The university also said other religious accommodations, including a request to wear a larger kirpan, can be made to the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX and

evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

“The Office of Diversity and Inclusion, with support from Institutional Integrity, also conducted additional awareness training this week with our police department and will continue its work to expand our cultural education and training opportunities for all of campus,” a university statement, released this week, read.

In its statement, the university thanked Sikh leaders, including nonprofit organisations -- The Sikh Coalition and the Global Sikh Council -- who provided expertise and perspective to help with the policy change.

“We will continue to use this incident as an opportunity

The ruling was effective immediately, the university, which had apologised for the incident, said.

A week after the September 22 incident, the university had shared a list of planned actions, including providing support and resources to the students affected by the event.

It had mentioned changing the school’s policy and providing additional education and training.

The matter first came to light when the student uploaded a video on Twitter and said that the police had handcuffed him for refusing to let the officer remove his kirpan.

Describing his suffering, the student wrote: “I wasn’t going to post this, but I don’t think I will receive any support from @unccharlotte. I was told someone called 911 and reported me, and I got cuffed for ‘resisting’ because I refused to let the officer take my kirpan out of the miyaan.”

The video, which was seen by more than 21,00,000 people, amassed 56,000 likes and several comments in support on social media.

The amritdhari, or baptized, Sikhs are required to carry five articles of the faith -- kesh (uncut hair), kara (steel bracelet), kanga (small comb), kachera (undershorts) and a kirpan (resembling a knife or sword).

A suspect is in police custody and is being treated for injuries. Two “heroic” people in the club subdued the attacker, police say.

Club Q, in Colorado Springs, wrote on Facebook that it was “devastated by the senseless attack” on its community. US President Joe Biden said Americans “cannot and must not tolerate hate”.

Police asked people to be patient while they worked to identify victims and finalise the number of casualties, adding that some people had taken themselves to hospital.

Officers received an initial emergency call about an active shooter at 23:57 (06:57 GMT) on Saturday, they said. The suspect was found inside the club. Two firearms were found at the scene, and the attacker is thought to have used a long rifle.

Police did not suggest a motive for the shooting but said the investigation would consider whether it was a hate crime, and if more than one person was involved.

Washington: US President Joe Biden on Sunday said that the US “cannot and must not tolerate hate,” hours after at least five people were killed and 18 injured in a mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado.

“We must drive out the inequities that contribute to violence against LGBTQI+ people,” Biden said in a statement. “We cannot and must not tolerate hate.”

He was speaking after a gunman opened fire inside an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs. In a statement on Twitter Joe Biden said: “We must address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all forms. I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly three decades, but we must do more.”

“Places that are supposed to be safe spaces of acceptance and celebration should never be turned into places of terror and violence. Yet it happens far too often. We must drive out the inequities that contribute to violence against LGBTQI+ people,” he said in a statement from the White House.

“Jill and I are praying for the families of the five people killed in Colorado Springs, and for those injured in this senseless attack. While no motive in this attack is yet clear, we know that gun violence has a particular impact on LGBTQI+ communities across our nation,” tweeted Biden.

The police said “heroic” clubgoers fought and stopped a gunman shortly after he opened fire.

Club Q Colorado shooting: Suspect held after five killed in attack at nightclub

At least five people have been killed and 25 injured after a gunman opened fire inside a gay club in the US state of Colorado on Saturday night.

A fire department spokesman said casualties had been transported to hospitals very quickly because of training for such events.

The FBI in nearby Denver said it was assisting local police with the incident. Police chief Adrian Vasquez thanked the two club-goers who intervened to stop the shooter. “Initial evidence and interviews indicate that the suspect entered Club Q and immediately began shooting at people inside as he moved further into the club,” he told a news conference on Sunday.

“While the suspect was inside of the club, at least two heroic people inside the club confronted and fought with the suspect and were able to stop the suspect from continuing to kill and harm others. We owe them a great debt of thanks.”

A statement on the Club Q Facebook page thanked “the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack”. The club was hosting a dance party at the time, and had planned to hold a performance event on Sunday

evening to celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance.Joshua Thurman, 34, was in the club at the time of the shooting. At first he thought the shots were part of the music, he told the Colorado Sun, but he later ran to take shelter in the club dressing room.

“When I came out there were bodies on the floor, shattered glass, broken cups, people crying,” he said.

“There was nothing keeping that man from coming in to kill us. Why did this have to happen? Why? Why did people have to lose their lives?”

Police received numerous 911 calls starting at 11:56 pm, officers were dispatched at 11:57 pm, an officer arrived at midnight and the suspect was detained at 12:02 am, police said. A total of 39 patrol officers responded, police said, and Fire Department Captain Mike Smaldino said 11 ambulances went to the scene, reported CNN.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who in 2018 became the first openly gay man in the country to be elected as a governor, commended the “brave individuals who blocked the gunman” in a statement released on Twitter in which he called the shooting “horrific, sickening, and devastating.”

At least two people inside the club confronted and fought the gunman and prevented further violence, said Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez. “We owe them a great debt of thanks,” he said.

Police identified the suspect as Anderson Lee Aldrich, a 22-year-old

man, who shot at patrons with a long rifle, a powerful weapon that can inflict devastating wounds. He was taken into police custody shortly after the shooting began and was being treated for injuries, according to officials.

The violence lasted just minutes.

The shooting location is reminiscent of the 2016 attack at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where a gunman who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State killed 49 people and wounded at least 53.

Colorado has been the site of some of the most heinous mass shootings in US history, including the 1999 shooting in Columbine High School and the 2012 movie theatre shooting in Aurora, reported CNN.

In a statement on social media, Club Q said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community” and thanked “the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack.”

Club Q posted earlier that its Saturday night lineup would feature a punk and alternative show at 9 p.m. followed by a dance party at 11.

Washington: Mass tech layoffs have left hundreds of workers living in the US on temporary visas with little time to find another job, or they’ll have to leave the country. And many say they’re getting inadequate guidance from the companies that sponsored them.

Doha: A US journalist said he was briefly detained on Monday when he tried to enter a World Cup stadium in Qatar while wearing a rainbow shirt in support of the LGBTQ community in a country where same-sex relations are illegal.

Grant Wahl, a former Sports Illustrated journalist who now has his own website, said World Cup security denied him entry to the United States’ opener against Wales at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan and asked him to take his shirt off.

He said his phone was taken away when he tweeted about the incident. “I’m OK, but that was an unnecessary ordeal,” Wahl wrote on Twitter. He said a security commander later approached him, apologized and allowed him into the venue.

In October, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 people. Modi had in June asked various government departments and ministries to undertake the recruitment of 10 lakh people on a “mission mode” in the next year and a half. The module is an online orientation course for all new appointees in various government departments. It will include a code of conduct for government servants, workplace ethics and integrity, human resource policies and other benefits and allowances that will help them to get acclimatized to the policies and transition smoothly into the new roles.

The tech industry has long relied on the H-1B visa program to meet its need for workers in specialized fields such as computer science and engineering. Amazon, Lyft, Meta, Salesforce, Stripe and Twitter have sponsored at least 45,000 H-1B workers in the past three years, according to a Bloomberg analysis of data from US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Reports compiled by employees at Meta and Twitter indicate that the latest round of job cuts at those two companies alone has affected at least 350 immigrants. H-1B holders who become unemployed can remain in the US legally for only 60 days without finding new employers to sponsor them.

Cianjur, Indonesia: A powerful earthquake killed more than 160 people in Indonesia’s West Java province on Monday, with rescuers searching for survivors trapped under the rubble amid a series of aftershocks.

The epicentre of the 5.6 magnitude quake was near the town of Cianjur in mountainous West Java, about 75 km (45 miles) southeast of the capital, Jakarta. The region is home to over 2.5 million people.

Highlighting a popular saying in Hindi the envoy added that there is nothing more important than friendship and the mission of the festival is to increase people-to-people ties. “Tonight we are resuming the wonderful tradition of reciprocal cultural festivals of Russia and India and India and Russia. Death in gyms is because of ‘supplements’ and ‘steroids Suniel Shetty

Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty highlighted the reasons for the rise in fatal incidents at gyms. In light of actors like Puneeth Rajkumar, Siddhaanth Vir Surryavanshi, and Raju Srivastava who either died before or after working out, Suniel said that the issue is with supplements and steroids they consume.

In an interview with Times Of India, Suniel said that the workout is not the problem because they are not stretching themselves beyond their limits. “It’s heart failure and not heart attack..,” he added.

The actor added that eating right and sound sleep are equally important. And by eating properly, he didn’t imply going on a diet; rather, he meant that the nutrition should be adequate and correct. Additionally, he questioned whether the gyms were taking the necessary precautions before subjecting clients to hardcore workout.

Another reason Suniel gave was Covid. “I must add here that post COVID, we need to do the test that tells us whether our blood is forming clots (D-Dimer Test). COVID is leading to blood clotting and that can be dangerous.”

Siddhaanth‘s death at 46 left the industry in deep shock. On November 11, the actor had a heart attack in the middle of a gym workout. Reacting to the same, as reported by Zoom, director Vivek Agnihotri had said, “It is very sad. The madness of building an aggressive body without medical advice is proving to be dangerous. Due to Instagram, excessive gymming has reached the extent of madness. It needs to be balanced.”

Was told nobody would want me after 25: Parvathy

An actor is like a moong dal packet, with a shelf life.” This was among the scariest things that Parvathy Thiruvothu, then 18, was told on entering the Malayalam film industry.

Sixteen years later, she is

among the most successful actors in the south movie industry today, happy to turn archaic notions on their head, one film at a time. “[When I joined the movies], everyone said, ‘You are in your 20s. Make a lot of money in the next five years because nobody will want you after you’re 25.’ I am 34, and still here,” she asserts. If it takes a revolution to make the industry realise that talent has little to do with gender and age, Thiruvothu is glad to take charge. “Just making sure I don’t leave the industry is my biggest revolution. Sometimes, the most silent actions can be the [most impactful].”

Her movies — from Bangalore Days (2014) to Take Off (2017) and Uyare (2019) — reflect the impact and change she bats for. Director Anjali Menon’s English film, Wonder Women, is the latest addition to the list. The SonyLIV film tells the story of six pregnant women, finding strength in each other as they navigate confusion and questions regarding pregnancy and childbirth. “I chose to play Mini because of her personality, her situation, and what happens to her in the end. That transformation was interesting to me, especially as a bit of an introvert.”

In a new promo dropped by Colors Tv from the latest episode, one could see Kajol joining other judges—Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar, and Nora Fatehi-as a show guest. She has also seen bonding with her good friend Karan and the two also played a game where they answered questions about each other. In the game, Maniesh Paul who hosts the show, asked Karan, “Kajol mam ka Bollywood crush kaun raha, Ajay sir ke alwa (Who was Kajol’s crush in Bollywood except Ajay)?” Karan replied, “She had a big crush on” and turned a slate in which he had written ‘Akshay Kumar’. His answer left Kajol in splits.

Those eligible could claim benefits, such as the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit, the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and more tax credits. each qualifying adult or child. The Child Tax Credit is worth up to

$3,600 per child. Eligible families can get as much as $6,728 through the Earned Income Tax Credit based on family size.

The only way to get the benefits is to file a 2021 tax return, even if you are not usually required to file one.

The letters were typically sent to people who don’t usually have to file a tax return because their incomes are lower than the threshold for filing one.

To make the process easier, the IRS is making its Free File software available until midnight ET on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Free File gives people, who make less than $73,000, an opportunity to file their taxes for free online.

ChildTaxCredit.gov is also another place where you can file your taxes for free.

New Jersey Is The No. 1 State For Robberies During The Holidays: FBI Report

EDISON, NJ- A new FBI report finds that New Jersey is the No. 1 state for burglaries during the holiday season. Last year, New Jersey had 83,000 burglaries at holiday time.

Officials say more than $130 million in items was stolen from homes last year alone.

Intruders were dressed like law enforcement., they knocked on the door at 9 a.m.

FAIR LAWN, NJ- A Bergen County family was victimized in an armed home invasion Thursday morning, police say.

Police say around 9 a.m., intruders knocked on the door of a home on 28th Street near Berkshire Road. Once a resident answered, they entered the home. According to a homeowner that lives across the street, those intruders were dressed like law enforcement.

Three renters were inside the home at the time and at least one was hurt during the incident. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Police have canvassed the neighborhood asking for surveillance footage from neighbors in the hope of seeing something that could help with the investigation. The neighborhood was shocked by the incident. “I see cop cars all the time always policing to make sure people are safe here, so that’s why I’m surprised something like this has happened here, ” says Danny Shah of Fair Lawn.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Cincinnati, in coordination with the FDA stopped several illegal cosmetic treatments that were headed to locations like Florida, Texas, Virginia and the island of Puerto Rico.

CINCINNATI, OH—On November 5, Cincinnati U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized 6 shipments of unapproved U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drugs. The drugs included Phenibut Hydrochloride, Botulinum Toxin, and fillers containing Lidocaine. Each one of these drugs to include Injectable cosmetic treatments, are regulated by FDA.

The six illegal shipments originated in China, South Korea, and Hong Kong with ultimate destinations in many states including Florida, Puerto Rico, Texas, and Virginia. One shipment contained Phenibut Hydrochloride, also known as Fenibut, which has never been an approved drug product in the U.S. Phenibut Hydrochloride is a psychoactive drug originating in Russia, used both under prescription and recreationally, and has the potential for a variety of serious adverse effects for users. Phenibut Hydrochloride is also not permitted as a dietary ingredient, therefore when a dietary supplement

includes Phenibut as an ingredient, it is misbranded and considered an unapproved new drug by FDA. The remaining five shipments of prescription drugs included injectable cosmetic treatments, also restricted by the FDA. The 100- and 200-Unit vials of Botulinum Toxin, Juvederm and Restylane fillers contain ingredients that are unknown, and consumers risk serious adverse health concerns and negative side effects. Had the products been genuine and FDAapproved, the combined value for all the prohibited injectables and unapproved Phenibut Hydrochloride would have been $542,928.

CBP works jointly with the FDA to detect and prevent harmful products entering the U.S. through International mail facilities. Sharing information and knowledge between agencies help with the detection of unapproved drugs. CBP recommends consumers purchase regulated cosmetic products from reputable sources, and ensure they are administered by properly trained and licensed medical professionals.

CBP provides basic import information about admissibility requirements and the clearance process for e-commerce goods and encourages buyers to confirm that their purchases and the importation of those purchases comply with any state and federal import

“Entire teams representing critical infrastructure are voluntarily departing the company, leaving the company at serious risk of being able to recover. We are skilled professionals with lots of options, so Elon has given us no reasons to stay and many to leave,” the engineer said.

Musk had issued his now notorious ultimatum a day before the resignations rolled in on Thursday. In a companywide email, the new owner asked employees to brace for long hours at “high intensity” adding that for Twitter to succeed “we will need to be extremely hardcore.”

The staff were supposed to complete the online form by the end of the day on Thursday or leave and accept three months severance.

Morning exercise lowers risk of heart disease and stroke: Study

Apple Watch can help detect silent heart disease, reveals study

With a focus on identifying heart abnormalities like left ventricular dysfunction, a recent study has taken a closer look at the ECG capabilities of the Apple Watch.

HiIndia Newsdesk

Morning physical activity is associated with the lowest risk of heart disease and stroke, as per a new study.

According to the study, which was published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, the findings were consistent regardless of total daily activity.

“It is well established that exercise is good for heart health, and our study now indicates that morning activity seems to be most beneficial,” said study author Gali Albalak of Leiden University Medical Centre, the Netherlands.

“The findings were particularly pronounced in women, and applied to both early birds and night owls,” she added.

The study used data from the UK Biobank (a large-scale biomedical database and

More than 1 billion teens and young people are potentially at risk of hearing loss because of their use of headphones and earbuds and attendance at loud music venues, new research has showed.

“There is an urgent need for governments, industry, and civil society to prioritise global hearing loss prevention by promoting safe listening practices,” the researchers said.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that over 430 million people worldwide suffer from disabling hearing loss.

According to the research published in journal BMJ Global Health, young people are particularly vulnerable due to their use of personal listening devices (PLDs) such as smartphones, headphones, and earbuds, as well as their attendance at loud music venues, amid poor regulatory enforcement.

As per previously published research, PLD users frequently choose volumes as high as 105 dB, while average sound levels at entertainment venues ranging from 104 to 112 dB, exceeding permissible levels (80 dB for adults; 75 dB for children), even if only for short periods of time.

In a pooled analysis of data, PLD use and attendance at loud entertainment venues are associated with unsafe listening practices in teens and young people worldwide - 24 per cent and 48 per cent, respectively, according to

research resource). It included 86,657 adults between the ages of 42 and 78 who were free of cardiovascular disease at the start. The average age was 62, and 58 per cent were women.

Over the course of six to eight years, 2,911 participants developed coronary artery disease, and 796 had a stroke, said the study.

When peak activity times were compared over a 24-hour period, being most active between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. was associated with the lowest risks of both heart disease and stroke.

In a second analysis, the researchers divided participants into four groups based on peak physical activity time - midday, early morning (8 a.m.), late morning (10 a.m.), and evening (7 p.m.).

After adjusting for age and gender, participants who were most active in

the early or late morning had 11 per cent and 16 per cent lower risks of incident coronary artery disease, respectively, compared to the reference group, the study added.

“Our findings add to the evidence on the health benefits of being physically active by suggesting that morning activity, and especially late morning, may be the most advantageous,” said Albalak.

More than 1 bn young people potentially at risk of hearing loss

San Francisco: (IANS) With a focus on identifying heart abnormalities like left ventricular dysfunction, a recent study has taken a closer look at the ECG capabilities of the Apple Watch.

Left Ventricular dysfunction of the heart is usually followed by congestive heart failure that can lead to a multitude of cardiac disorders.

It would be a major breakthrough if something like the Apple Watch could detect it passively or help diagnose it, the report added.

The study included 2,454 patients from the US and 11 other countries. From August 2021 to February 2022, these participants sent over 1,25,000 ECGs via their Apple Watch. These results were then “scrubbed and processed via a proprietary AI algorithm developed by the researchers”, according to the report.

By using the mean prediction within a 30-day window or the closest ECG relative to the echocardiogram that determined the EF, the AI algorithm detected patients with a low EF (ejection fraction) with an area under the curve of 0.885 (95 per cent confidence interval 0.8230.946) and 0.881 (0.815-0.947), said the report.

the research. Based on these numbers, the researchers calculate that there are between 0.67 and 1.35 billion teens and young adults worldwide who may be at risk of hearing loss. However, the researchers acknowledge that their findings have significant limitations, such as the varied study design -a particular feature of the studies on entertainment venues -- and the absence of standardised methodology.

The findings showed that “consumer-watch ECGs acquired in nonclinical environments can identify patients with cardiac dysfunction”.

The study also infers that “the potential of smartwatches to assist with conducting remote digital health studies is just in the beginning phases”.

Valentino opens its new boutique in New Delhi

Valentino announced the opening of its Valentino boutique at DLF Emporio, the luxury mall in the heart of New Delhi.

The boutique, which is over 110 square meters, marks an important step in the development of Valentino’s worldwide retail network expansion with a renewed store concept geared toward adapting to the changes in the retail market. The boutique’s experiential design will provide customers with a global experience and a bespoke client experiential journey. The facade features a special installation with standlights and ultraclearview vinyls on the windows glass. The windows on display feature the iconic Valentino Pink PP Collection. The boutique carries all women’s and men’s product categories: ready-to-wear, Valentino Garavani bags, shoes and accessories. “The brand’s infectious romanticism, signature codes and bold use of colour has strong resonance in India. This partnership will help make the brand more accessible to its Indian customers and build a new tribe of Valentino connoisseurs,” said Darshan Mehta, MD of Reliance Brands Limited.

Winter fashion styles to get you through the cold season

Even though most people dread the cold season, it does come with some perks. Winter blues are a great excuse to invest in cozy clothing and accessories that will keep you warm for the rest of the year-and help you look stylish in the process! We all know that a winter wardrobe should be filled with natural fabrics like cotton, wool, and cashmere.

But while these materials are arguably the most practical when it comes to staying warm during chilly days, they also have a downside: they aren’t exactly as fashionable as other options. Fortunately, there are ways to stay warm and trendy at the same time! Santosh Srivastava, Marketing Manager at Numero UNO shares three different winter fashion styles that will get you through this season in style.

The jogger

The jogger, essentially a loose-fitting pair of pants with a wide leg, has been gaining popularity in the fashion world for a few years now. This style is efficient for winter since it will allow you to move freely without feeling constricted by tight clothing. Whereas jeans are often too heavy to wear during the winter, joggers made of lightweight fabrics such as cotton, and linen, or synthetic materials such as polyester or spandex will keep you warm without weighing you down. Joggers are also a great option if you’re looking to add a casual touch to an otherwise formal outfit. For example, you can wear a pair of black joggers with a loose-fitting shirt and a pair of sneakers.

The fur-lined hoodie

Though the fashion world has been exploring the relationship between fur and style for many seasons, fur is still heavily associated with winter clothing. If you’re looking for a garment that will keep you warm without being too heavy or bulky, a fur-lined hoodie could be the perfect option. Unlike a regular hoodie, a fur-lined version will make sure you stay warm even on the chilliest days. This is because fur naturally traps warm air, which makes it a great insulating material. Furthermore, a fur-lined hoodie is a great option if you’re looking for a way to play with textures in your winter outfit. While a regular hoodie would look too casual with a fancy pair of pants.

The faux fur coat

The faux fur coat is an investment piece that will help you stay warm during the entire winter season. Unlike real fur, faux fur is cruelty-free and doesn’t shed-which means that it’s a great option for people who don’t want to wear real fur yet want to stay warm and stylish at the same time. Fur is a very visually appealing fabric, so a faux fur coat will instantly add a stylish touch to any winter outfit. These coats come in various colours, so you can choose one that will complement the rest of your wardrobe. A faux fur coat is a great option if you’re looking for a stylish yet functional garment to wear on the coldest days.
