Russia invades Ukraine
Now that the Russian military operation in Ukraine has begun, there are looming fears about the risks that come with it for the rest of Europe and the world. Over the last several weeks, the U.S. and European allies have moved troops, naval ships and warplanes eastward on the continent, near where the Russian military is operating, to deter Putin from further aggression. Ukraine is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but it borders four nations that are—Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Biden and other NATO allies have pledged to protect their eastern and central European members under the NATO treaty’s mutual defense commitments.

Lawmakers in the House of Commons voted 185 to 151 to affirm the powers. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said earlier that the powers were still needed despite police ending the occupation of the nation’s capital by truckers over
the weekend and police ending border blockades before that. Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair said the protesters were going for the “lifeblood of this nation, which is trade with the United States”. Trudeau noted there were some truckers just outside Ottawa who might be planning further blockades or occupations. His public safety minister said there was an attempt to block a border crossing in British Columbia over the weekend. The emergencies act allows authorities to declare certain areas as no-go zones. It also allows police to freeze truckers’ personal and corporate bank accounts and compel tow truck companies to haul away vehicles. The trucker protest grew until it closed a handful of CanadaUS border posts and shut down key parts of the capital for more than three weeks.
America’s Doctor, Family Get Safeguards despite COVID-19 HiIndia Newsdesk
Vivek Murthy
WASHINGTON — Surgeon General Vivek Murthy announced Friday that he and his young family have COVID-19 despite their best efforts to avoid infection by getting vaccinated and taking other precautions. Writing on Twitter, America’s doctor said, “When you’ve been as safe as you can, getting COVID-19 can be frustrating and disappointing. I’ve felt that. It can also be a source of shame. Many people assume you must have been careless to get sick. Our safety measures reduce risk but they can’t eliminate risk. Nothing can.” As new cases and hospitalizations plummet, and deaths have finally started to decline, the Murthy family’s bout with COVID calls attention to the lingering risks of a virus that many people have started assuming is finally on the way out.
Murthy, a regular participant at White House COVID task force briefings, said he and his wife, physician and political activist Dr. Alice Chen, have mild symptoms. She has a headache and fatigue, and he said he was dealing with muscle aches, chills, and a sore throat. Murthy served on President Joe Biden’s transition team as co-chair of the coronavirus advisory board, and is said to enjoy a close personal relationship with Biden. His trademark is a soft-spoken, empathetic style of public speaking. Even before the pandemic, he was warning about the toll of loneliness in America. Murthy’s family roots are in India, but as a youngster he lived in Miami. His father had a medical clinic, where both parents worked. The son spent weekends helping out and says that’s where he discovered the art of healing.

Did China help Pakistan build bridges to Russia? Imran Khan nods yes & then slams Modi’s India
D
id China play a “subtle but very significant role” in facilitating diplomatic convers at ions b etwe en Pakistan and Russia? Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan nodded vigorously in the affirmative when asked this during an interview with Russia’s stateowned media outlet Russia Today (RT) Tuesday, ahead of his maiden two-day visit to Moscow amid its tensions with Ukraine. He also nodded in corroboration when asked about his own suggestion (made while in Beijing) that Islamabad can act as a “mediator between Beijing and Washington”. On whether China would agree to such a possibility, he said that cooperation between China, the US and Russia “will benefit mankind much more than a conflict”. “The America I know is very diverse… Surely there are sensible voices in the US who believe that conflict is not the way, there is another way, where it could be win-win for everyone. I certainly believe that cooperation between China and the United States and even for that matter Russia, would benefit mankind much more than a conflict,” said Khan. During the interview, he also spoke at length about India, and alleged that the country has been taken over by “Nazi” ideology, adding that it is “no longer the India of Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi”.
‘Not the India of Nehru and Gandhi’
Calling it “extreme nationalism”, Khan told RT that India “is no longer the country of Jawaharlal Nehru and
‘Would love to debate Modi on TV’
Asked about navigating the Kashmir issue with India, Khan remarked: “I would love to debate with Narendra Modi on TV.” Earlier this month, Pakistan National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf had said that Kashmir remains an “integral” issue to Pakistan, adding that it is not wise to “basically give up on your cardinal national interests”.Asked whether he will leave the Kashmir issue with India to his successors or try to resolve it during his tenure, the Pakistan PM claimed that he had wanted to actively engage with India upon entering office in 2018. “Do you know, when my party came into power in 2018, the first thing I did was to reach out to India and I told them you know our only issue is Kashmir. Let’s sit down on the table and resolve it, let’s have a roadmap. But I didn’t realise, and remember I’m the one who knows India better than anyone because cricket is a passion…in the subcontinent and because…me being captain of cricket here and sort of playing lots over 10 years against India, I know India better than most people, so I immediately reached out,” he said. Khan added that he then discovered, to his “horror”, that “this is not the India I used to know because it’s been taken over by this mad ideology”. “It’s a racist ideology, which was inspired by the Nazis. The founding fathers were inspired by the Nazis… You see there is negative nationalism and positive nationalism. You must distinguish between the two,” he added.
In an interview with state-owned media outlet Russia Today, the Pakistan PM alleged that India has been taken over by ‘Nazi’ ideology & is ‘no longer the India of Nehru and Gandhi’.
Mahatma Gandhi”. “What is happening in India is not what Indians are like. This is not the India of Nehru and Gandhi, this is the India of Narendra Modi. A tiny, highly organised elite has taken over India just like the Nazis took over Germany,” he claimed. Khan accused the Modi government of focusing on Hindu politics instead of bringing development to the people of India. “Indian leadership — I wish they would concentrate on raising people out of poverty rather than proving to the world that the Hindus are the most superior race,” he said. Islamabad has not yet commented on Putin’s decision to recognise two separatist territories in eastern Ukraine — a move that prompted sanctions from the US and European Union (EU) countries to agree to an initial sanctions package.

ami Gautam says her constant endeavour is to make a place for herself in the industry, where her existence is not dependent on who she’s working with or her male counterparts. “If I’m getting work, it should be because they want to work with me and feel I have the potential to perform that character. I don’t want to have a holding in a film by working with certain actors only,” Yami told. Yami wants people to organically like her work, instead of her coercing them to watch and react to it. In her latest movie A Thursday, she plays a playschool teacher who takes 16 kids as hostages to get her demands met. Though Yami said playing Naina was emotionally overwhelming, she refused to call her a negative character. “Negative is subjective. I’ll say don’t judge the book by its cover. There are several layers to her.” Ever since A Thursday’s trailer released, many are calling it a ‘spiritual sequel’ of Naseeruddin Shah starrer A Wednesday. But Yami disagrees. “Maybe the connection is there because Ronnie Screwvala has produced both, and because of the title or the structure. Why would someone make two similar films when you know the audience is so aware in 2022? I’d request you to watch it as a new independent film,” she said.

Why Was Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik Arrested? Sources say Nawab Malik was grilled over alleged transactions with Dawood Ibrahim’s associates and land deals. HiIndia Newsdesk
N
awab Malik, the second Maharashtra Minister to be arrested by a central probe agency in four months, faces charges related to a land deal involving terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. The Enforcement Directorate is investigating money-laundering linked to the underworld and had recently carried out multiple raids besides filing cases against the underworld. Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood Ibrahim’s brother, was arrested in the case last week. Some evidence showed transactions between Nawab Malik and associates of Dawood Ibrahim, said Enforcement Directorate sources. The agency first searched Nawab Malik briefly before taking him to its south Mumbai office. The minister was arrested after five hours of questioning. “He gave evasive replies and did not cooperate with us,” said an official. Sources also said Nawab Malik was grilled over alleged transactions with Dawood Ibrahim’s associates and land deals. Some evidence related to the property bought by Nawab Malik surfaced during the investigation, officials said. Nawab Malik, a five-time MLA, is the national spokesperson of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which is a part of Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena-led government. He is the minister in charge of minority affairs. He is among the most vocal critics of the BJP and in recent months, became the face of the opposition’s allegations at the Centre over the drugs arrest of megastar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan by the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Reacting to the Enforcement Directorate’s move, Sharad Pawar said, “Which case have they dug up? It is simple. They take the name of Dawood, especially if there is a Muslim activist (against whom a case is dug up)...There is no relation (between the activist concerned and underworld), but it is done.” Last week, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted raids at the home of Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar in Mumbai in the money laundering case. The agency had also questioned Dawood’s nephew and Parkar’s son Alishah Parkar and Chota Shakeel’s henchman, Salim Qureshi, also Salim Fruits.

Sanju Samson has been drafted into the squad and it would be interesting to see whether the management gives him a go in the playing XI. “Speaking of Samson, I think you know that guy has got talent man. Now that is the whole point about this sport, a lot of people have skill-set, have talent, but it is how you utilise them is the most critical part and I think, it is up to Sanju to understand how he want to utilise the talent and how he can maximise it. “Because as a team, as a team management, we see lot of potential, we see lot of talent and we see lot of match-winning abilities in that individual,” elaborated the skipper.
“Brotherhood Continues”: Suryakumar Yadav
HiIndia Newsdesk
Former national team captain Anand Amritraj feels Indian players should exploit their Danish opponents’ weakness on grass to prevail over the visitors in their Davis Cup World Group I playoff tie on March 4 and 5 here. “The fact that we got the opportunity to hold matches on grass will be a massive advantage. Danish players will be used to slow hard courts or clay surfaces, and they will not prefer the faster grass courts one bit,” Amritraj said. “India needs to capitalise on this and prove they are superior grass players. However, it will not be a straightforward task. But I really reckon that we are firm favourites,” the 70-year-old two-time US Open quarterfinalist in doubles said in a release.
The post, which had two photos of Suryakumar hugging Pollard, was captioned, “& the brotherhood continues”. Both Suryakumar and Pollard have been teammates in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several years now, even before Suryakumar made his international debut. The two players share a great bond and will continue to play with each other after Mumbai Indians decided to retain both players ahead of the IPL mega auction. The photo shared by the Indian middle-order batter just goes to show the bond that modern day cricketers share, despite representing their national teams against each other.

Orlando, FL –United States Attorney Roger B. Patel has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, three counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and eight counts of money laundering. Patel faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison for each count of conspiracy and wire fraud and up to 20 years in federal prison for each count of money laundering. But now they will be joined by homeless and mental health outreach workers at major transit hubs and end-of-the-line stations like 168th Street and Broadway, the end of the C train line. Early Monday morning, there was trouble on the No. 4 train near the 167th Street Station in the Bronx. A disturbed man who appeared homeless erupted into an unprovoked violent rage, then swung a pipe and hit a 30-year-old woman in the head. And that followed a weekend of violence on the city’s subway platforms and trains in which at least six people were stabbed. Adams’ plan, announced Friday, involves sending more police, mental health clinicians and social service outreach workers into the subways. Adams spokesperson Fabien Levy said Monday that a “phased-in” implementation was beginning.

HEALTH
Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day Water is the elixir of life. Human beings need water to survive as it “directly affects the body’s blood circulation, body temperature, digestion, transfer of nutrients and several biochemical reactions” Carry a water bottle Carry a portable water bottle wherever you go — preferably not a singleuse, plastic one. Keeping a water bottle with you at all times will ensure that you don’t get caught in a situation with no access to drinking water. Doing so will also help you keep track of your daily water consumption. A reusable water bottle is always a sustainable option.
Use a hydration app on your phone If you can’t keep track of your water consumption on the regular, consider installing a hydration app on your phone that will calculate how much water you need. It’s ingenious for people with highly engrossing work that keeps them at their desk for long hours — just keep an ear out for the alarm and drink away.
Detox water
Opt for fresh fruit juices, smoothies and soups Having water is not the only way you can hydrate yourself! If you don’t like sipping on plain water, there are a ton of options out there for you. Choose fresh fruit and vegetable juices, tender coconut water, smoothies and hearty soups to keep yourself full and hydrated.
Differentiate between hunger and thirst Do you often get hunger pangs throughout the day even though you’ve had meals? It might be a cause of dehydration– your body’s way of telling you to replenish. If you’ve been wanting to eat too many snacks lately, consider having a glass of water each time and notice the difference.

US government plans to make high-quality masks available for kids
High-quality masks for children soon might be easier to find in the United States, if government plans come to fruition. The US government plans to make high-quality face masks available for children, and “that process is underway,” Dr. Tom Inglesby, senior adviser to the White House Covid-19 Response Team, told on Wednesday. The forthcoming plan appears to be an extension of the White House’s ongoing effort to distribute 400 million free N95 masks from the Strategic National Stockpile for the public to access at pharmacies and community health centers nationwide. “Already, 230 million masks have been delivered to pharmacies and community health centers as part of the administration’s efforts to deliver high-quality masks around the country, and that process will continue,” Inglesby said during a virtual White House briefing Wednesday. “We are now in the process of planning for the distribution of masks for children, and we’ll have more to say about that in the days ahead,” he added. “But there is a commitment to do that.”

Online is the best way to provide the volume and variety of information that consumers need to make quick and easy informed decisions.

Inside Sobhita Dhulipala’s sari wardrobe Actor Sobhita Dhulipala made her marquee debut in 2016, but it was her turn as wedding planner Tara Khanna in web series Made in Heaven (2019) that really catapulted her into the limelight. Her poignant performance won her acclaim, while her carefully curated costumes singled her out as a rising fashion star. The star of her wardrobe in the show? A versatile edit of saris —be it contemporary scene-stealers from 431-88 by Shweta Kapur or thoroughly classic drapes from Raw Mango, Galang Gabaan and Ekaya among others; both of which the actor carried with equal ease.
Reasons Why A Face Massager Should Be A Beauty Must-Have
E
veryone enjoys heading to a spa once in a while for a deeply rejuvenating facial. However, as much as you may like it, it’s not always possible to take out the time for it or pay an exorbitant price for an expensive treatment every week. Therefore, having a hand-held face massager at home can be a blessing. By incorporating a quick DIY massage routine into your daily skin care, you can take years off your skin and brighten up your complexion.
For a radiant skin
Ever since, it has become apparent that when it comes to her style (both onscreen and off it too), Dhulipala doesn’t believe in boxing herself into the confines of just one particular sartorial sensibility. The style chameleon can pull off streetwear from Huemn as easily as she can heritage weaves from Raw Mango.
‘Never imagined such fame’: Mammikka, the daily wage labourer
A 60 year old daily wage labourer — Mammikka — from Kerala’s Calicut found instant internet fame as his photoshoot for a wedding suit company went viral on social media. The aesthetically shot pictures by photographer, videographer and
graphic designer Shareek Vayalil Shk, who is also the founder of SHK Digital Wedding Studio, were initially shared on Instagram. “Mammikka is my neighbour; he has a special photography look, and was hence a natural choice,” Shareek told
Give Your Day A Healthy Start With Poha
P
oha, a dish cooked from flattened rice, is a popular breakfast meal in many Indian households. You can cook it with peanuts and curry leaves, or with vegetables. Besides being easy to prepare, poha has numerous health benefits too. It is widely considered as a probiotic food. It also aids digestion, contains carbohydrates and proteins and is healthy for your gut.
Poha as a health fix Poha has a high carbohydrate content; its fat content, on the other hand, is way less. The combination keeps the body fit, flexible and provides a steady dose of energy to last you through the day. The low calorie count of poha is complemented well by its high iron content. The benefits increase when cooked with curry leaves, which are rich in antioxidants. Poha is also rich in fibre, which helps control blood sugar levels. It is also easily digestible, does not cause bloating and is gluten-free.
How to serve poha Top your poha with a little sev or bhujia and serve it with home-made mint chutney. You could also squeeze a bit of lemon juice if you want to make it tangy.
Erratic sleeping and eating patterns and poor lifestyle habits such as sitting in an air-conditioned room for long hours, combined with external factors such as exposure to air pollution and smoke, can take a massive toll on your skin— making it dull, lifeless, puffy and pale. A simple DIY facial massage with a manual roller or an electric massager can do you tonnes of good. It not only helps improve the blood and oxygen flow in your skin but also deep cleanses it. The circular motion of the roller or the brush is also great for opening blocked pores and removing dead skin, excess oil and blackheads.
The right way to do it
How to go about it, you may ask. In an Elle article, Julia Baba, an aesthetician with The Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, suggests you “start upward. Massage the neck and décolletage area, gently working toward the forehead and tending to the pressure points along the way. Be sure to concentrate on the delicate skin around the eye area with gentle circular motions.” If you are stepping out of a hot shower, Baba suggests, you splash some cold water on your skin because the contrast “helps to stimulate blood circulation”.
Helps relieve stress
We all lead high-pressure lives, trying to manage too many things simultaneously which can be very stressful. With hectic work hours and so much anxiety, our facial muscles constantly feel tense and tight. Just the way a facial at a salon or spa helps release stress and tension, the same way, a handheld face massager can help roll the blues away. By focusing on the pressure points on your face with the massager, you can relieve muscle tension and stress in a few minutes.
Aids absorption
Besides tightening your skin, brightening your complexion and helping you release stress, face massager also aids better absorption of skincare products like serums and creams, making them more effective.

Russia Says “Premature” To Organise Biden- Putin Summit On Ukraine HiIndia Newsdesk
Moscow: The Kremlin said Monday it was too early to discuss organising a summit between the Russian and American presidents, after Paris announced the possibility of a meeting to calm tensions over Ukraine. The French presidency announced early Monday that an agreement had been reached in principle for US President Joe Biden to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, so long as Moscow holds back from sending troops into Ukraine.“It’s premature to talk about any specific plans for organising any kind of summits,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
million in cash. According to court documents, Ateeq worked in the Islamabad office of Home Health Care Consulting, an entity that controlled Medicare billing and maintenance of electronic medical records for over 20 home health agencies located in Illinois, Indiana, Nevada and Texas. While working at Home Health Care Consulting, Ateeq used a variety of fake identities, including “Nilesh Patel,” “Sanjay Kapoor” and “Rajesh Desai,” to acquire and manage home health agencies in the United States. Once the agencies were under Ateeq’s control, Ateeq caused the agencies to submit fraudulent claims to Medicare for home health services, resulting in over $40 million in payments for services that were never rendered. he FBI Chicago Field Office and HHS-OIG investigated the case. Trial Attorney Sarah Wilson Rocha of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeremy Daniel and Patrick Mott of the Northern District of Illinois prosecuted the case.
Lalu Yadav Gets 5 Years In Jail In Fodder Scam Case, Fined Rs. 60 Lakh HiIndia Newsdesk
Patna: Lalu Yadav was sentenced today to five years in jail and fined Rs. 60 lakh in a fifth case linked to the fodder scam. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader was convicted in the case last week. The case involves the illegal withdrawal of Rs. 139.5 crore from the Doranda treasury, as part of the fodder scam that took place in the 1990s, when Lalu Yadav was Chief Minister of Bihar. The three-time Chief Minister was found guilty along with 39 others. Lalu Yadav, who is out on bail and is unwell, joined the court hearing through video conferencing.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, said Russia is planning “the biggest war in Europe since 1945”. Moscow: Moscow today said shell fired from Ukraine destroyed a Russian border facility. Western countries fear a build-up of Russian troops near Ukraine in recent weeks is a prelude to an invasion and say this would trigger “massive” sanctions against Moscow. Russia denies any plans to invade but wants sweeping security guarantees. Tensions between Moscow and the West have been growing for weeks over a feared Russian attack on Ukraine and a large build-up of Moscow’s troops around Ukrainian borders. Western intelligence agencies claim that around 1.6 lakh Russian troops are ready to attack Ukraine.
