On Oct. 8, 2020, DHS issued an IFR titled, Strengthening the H-1B Nonimmigrant Visa Classification Program. On Dec. 1, 2020, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the IFR. CHICAGO, IL- CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot made it official: Lollapalooza will return to Grant Park. The four-day music fest’s line-up is scheduled to be revealed Wednesday, when tickets are set to go on sale. Folks who plan on attending this year should be prepared to show proof they are fully vaccinated or proof of a negative COVID-19 test 24 hours before each day of the festival, city officials said. More details on the festival entry process will be available in early July, city officials said. “Here in Chicago, the word ‘Lollapalooza’ has always been synonymous with summer, great music and four days of unforgettable fun – which made last year’s decision to postpone it all the more difficult,” Lightfoot said. “Now, less than a year later and armed with a vaccine that is safe, effective and widely available, we are able to bring back one of our city’s most iconic summer music festivals. I want to thank the Lollapalooza team for working closely with the City to create a reopening strategy that prioritizes safety and can’t wait to see festivalgoers return to Grant Park this summer Lollapalooza organizers celebrated the news on social media with a video announcing, “We’re back!!!!”

NEWS BREIF Trump blasts NY criminal inquiry as ‘witch hunt’

HiIndia Newsdesk Former US President Donald Trump has lashed out after the New York attorney general said her inquiry into the Trump Organisation was now a criminal probe. Letitia James, the state’s top prosecutor, has been scrutinising the ex-Republican president’s financial dealings before he took office. A spokesperson for Ms James said the inquiry into Mr Trump’s property company was “no longer purely civil”. Mr Trump on Wednesday said she was “in desperate search of a crime”. Ms James’ spokesman, Fabien Levy, told the BBC on Tuesday: “We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the Organization is no longer purely civil in nature.

Fauci: Reasonable for businesses to keep masks

HiIndia Newsdesk The nation’s top infectious disease expert is acknowledging confusion after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week said fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks in most instances, even indoors. Dr. Anthony Fauci tells ABC News, The problem and the issue is that we don’t have any way of knowing who is vaccinated and who’s not vaccinated. He says it is reasonable and understandable that some businesses and localities are maintaining mask requirements because they can’t be sure of an individual’s vaccination history.

35 Republicans buck Trump, back study of Jan 6 Capitol riot

HiIndia Newsdesk Thirty-five House Republicans joined Democrats Wednesday in voting to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the Capitol, risking the wrath of former President Donald Trump and flouting GOP leaders who condemned the proposal as unfairly partisan and unneeded. The Republican mavericks were led by New York Rep. John Katko, who wrote the measure with Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss. Katko, that panel’s top Republican, was battling two tides that have overwhelmed Congress in recent years: the nearly overwhelming potency Trump still has among Republicans and a jagged-edged partisanship that often confounds even mundane legislation. Rep. Benny Thompson, D-Miss., talks to reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington, “I encourage all members, Republicans and Wednesday, May 19, 2021, about legislation to create an independent, bipartisan Democrats alike, to put down their swords for commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol Complex. once, just for once, and support this bill,” Katko Thompson is the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and said before the House approved the measure. negotiated the bipartisan legislation

Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Can Be Stored In Fridge For A Month: US

HiIndia Newsdesk Washington: The Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine can be stored at refrigerator temperatures for up to a month in the United States, the country’s health regulator announced Wednesday, in a change expected to help distribution of the shot. The US Food and Drug Administration

said it had made the decision “based on a review of recent data submitted by Pfizer,” and will allow vials of the vaccine to be stored at refrigerator temperatures of 2-8 degrees Celsius (35-46 degrees Fahrenheit) for up to one month. The vials were previously only allowed to be kept at such temperatures for five days. “This change should make this vaccine more widely available to the American public by facilitating the ability of vaccine providers, such as community doctors’ offices, to receive, store and administer the vaccine,” said Peter Marks, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

Texas governor signs restrictive new law HiIndia Newsdesk The governor of Texas has signed a law banning abortion from as early as six weeks - before most women know they are pregnant. Governor Greg Abbott signed the legislation at a ceremony on Wednesday. It bans abortions after the detection of what anti-abortion campaigners call a foetal heartbeat, something medical authorities say is misleading. The law is also unique in giving any individual the right to sue doctors who perform the procedure past this point. Doctors and women’s rights groups have heavily criticised the law, which will take effect in September if it is not stopped by a court.

India reiterates support for ‘just Palestinian cause’ and ‘two-state solution’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday tweeted the national flags of 25 countries, from the United States to Albania, that he said were “resolutely standing with Israel and supporting our right to self defence”. Indian flag was not among them. Ambassador Tirumurti’s statement made two things clear. One, he said the “violence began in East Jerusalem a week back”, referring to the clashes in the Al-Aqsa compound and East Jerusalem’s neighbourhood. This means, India doesn’t see Hamas’s rocket firing on May 10, which followed Israeli forces storming Al-Aqsa Mosque in the morning, as the trigger of the conflict. Second, India has expressed “our deep concern over the violence in Jerusalem, especially on Haram esh-Sharif/Temple Mount during the holy month of Ramzan and about the possible eviction process in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighbourhood in East Jerusalem.” Dozens of Arab families in the occupied East Jerusalem face eviction by the Israelis, which was one of the triggers of Arab protests in the last week of Ramzan. India has also urged both sides to “refrain from attempts to unilaterally change the existing status quo, including in East Jerusalem and its neighbourhood.” Here, it is Israel which is trying to unilaterally change the status quo by moving to evict the Palestinian families, and deploying troops to the Al-Aqsa compound. India called for “the historic status quo at the holy places of Jerusalem, including Haram esh-Sharif/Temple Mount must be respected”. So, without mentioning any country, India has, in effect, called for the eviction process to be stopped and status quo ante to be restored at the Al Aqsa compound.

Why did India not support Israel straightaway? India is a follower of peaceful coexistence. It is also a follower of Non Alignment Movement. So even though India receives and provides support to Israel, it would always be on Palestinian side here as it strongly says the land of the Palestine was occupied forcefully. Moreover, facing similar problems in its own homeland via Pakistan and China, India would find it difficult to accept forceful occupation of the Jewish territory.

What was said by India?

At the United Nations Security Council on Sunday, India, a nonpermanent member, reaffirmed its support for Palestine, but stopped short of making any direct reference to the status of Jerusalem or the future Israel-Palestine borders. Wrapping up his over-4-minutelong speech at the Security Council, T.S. Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN said: “In conclusion, India reiterates its strong support for the just Palestinian cause and its unwavering commitment to the two-state solution.”

Tirumurti in his statement said, “the events of the last several days have resulted in a sharp deterioration of the security situation. The indiscriminate rocket firings from Gaza targeting the civilian population in Israel, which we condemn, and the retaliatory strikes into Gaza, have caused immense suffering and resulted in deaths, including women and children.” As per India’s stance, both sides were urged to show restraint to the highest level and were asked to begin negotiations. TS Tirumurti also talked about the city of Jerusalem and its connection with various Indians. He said,” The Old City also houses the Al Zawiyya Al Hindiyya – the Indian Hospice, which is a historic place associated with a great Indian Sufi saint Baba Farid and located inside the Old City. India has restored this Indian Hospice” He also said in the end which changed the entire dynamics, “in conclusion, I reiterate India’s strong support to the just Palestinian cause and its unwavering commitment to the two-state solution.”

CMs sit like puppets, not Received 40,300 govt requests allowed to speak at Covid meet for user data from India: with PM Modi: Mamata Facebook report

HiIndia Newsdesk West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with chief ministers as “casual and superflop” as, she said, none of the chief ministers, including herself, were given a chance to speak. Banerjee, after attending the meeting with the PM on the Covid-19 situation, said all chief ministers were made to sit like “puppets” and claimed a “dictatorship” is prevailing in the country. “The Prime Minister called a meeting and invited the chief ministers. And all the chief ministers were sitting like puppets. Nobody was allowed to speak. Then how do we speak about the public demands? We are not bonded labourers. We feel insulted and humiliated. A dictatorship is going on. The Prime Minister is feeling so insecure that he did not even listen to the chief ministers. What is this fear about?” Banerjee asked.

HiIndia Newsdesk Social media giant Facebook said it has received 40,300 requests from the Indian government for user data in the second half of 2020. This was 13.3 per cent higher from the January-June 2020 period when India had made 35,560 total requests, according to the Facebook’s latest Transparency Report. The US-based company restricted access to 878 items in India during the second half of 2020 in response to directions from the IT Ministry for violating Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, including content against security of the state and public order. According to the report, India made 40,300 total requests in the July-December 2020 period, of which 37,865 were legal process requests and 2,435 were emergency disclosure requests. The number of total requests made by India ranked second to the US, which had made 61,262 requests during the July-December 2020 period.

HiIndia Newsdesk In a high-level meeting chaired to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took note of reports about ventilators lying unutilised in some states and directed that an immediate audit of installation and operation of ventilators provided by the Centre should be carried out. Lockdown In Bengal For 2 Weeks From Tomorrow

HiIndia Newsdesk Alphabet Inc’s Google on Friday said that it is leading nearly 30 companies and trade organisations to oppose a lawsuit that seeks to stop thousands of spouses of foreign workers on H-1B visa from working in the United States. Catherine Lacavera, V-P, Legal at Google, said in a blog post that a fair immigration system is necessary to preserve America’s “laudable history” of welcoming immigrants from different parts of the world and “to fuel a virtuous cycle of innovation.” “Unfortunately, an impending court case is putting both at risk at the most inopportune moment,” wrote Lacavera, an immigrant herself. The spouses of H-1B visa holders, a majority from India and China, receive H-4 visas and only in certain cases, they can apply for an employment authorization document. Earlier, the work permit was usually given to H-4 visa holders where their H-1B spouses were well on track to receive a permanent resident card, also known as a green card.

HiIndia Newsdesk Chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday that the city recorded 6,500 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours and the positivity rate further dipped to 11 per cent. This was one per cent lower than Friday. “In the last 24 hours, 6,500 Covid-19 cases have been reported in

Delhi and the positivity rate has further gone down to 11 per cent. So the impact of the virus is going down in Delhi. As many as 1,000 ICU beds have been set up within 15 days, our doctors and engineers have set an example. I thank them,” he said.

HiIndia Newsdesk B engal will go under complete lockdown from Sunday till May 30, with only essential services allowed to remain open, amid a surge in Covid cases across the state. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s brother Aseem succumbed to Covid on Saturday, after a month’s battle with the disease. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the state had crossed the 20,000 mark with the highest number of cases in neighbouring North 24-Parganas followed by Calcutta, prompting the government to go for stricter curbs, though Mamata was opposed to such stern measures considering the economic impact on the livelihood and lives of the people.

HiIndia Newsdesk Beijing: China on Friday said the prices of some of the COVID-19 medical supplies like oxygen concentrators being procured by Indian companies from Chinese manufacturers have gone up as they had to import raw materials to meet the excess demand from India. Responding to a question from the official media here on India’s Consul General in Hong Kong Priyanka Chauhan’s recent remarks calling on China to stop surging prices of medical supplies to India, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing that China has been encouraging its companies to meet India’s procurement to meet the country’s surge in coronavirus cases. Soaring prices of medical supplies like oxygen concentrators and disruption of cargo flights to India are slowing arrivals of medical goods, Chauhan said this week.HILL SIEGE THE US CAPITOL

HiIndia Newsdesk Adilabad: Mukhra (K), a remote village in Adilabad, has several achievements to its credit but the most notable and laudable has been its efforts to keep the coronavirus at bay not just in the second wave but also in the first. The village has not reported a single case of Covid so far, and has thus emerged as a model village for other rural civic bodies to emulate. The village, with a population of 705, adopted a slew of measures and managed to prevent the virus from spreading among the residents. For instance, the gram panchayat kept a strict vigil on entry of outsiders to check the spread of the disease and conducted thermal screenings to identify persons with fever. Gadge Meenakshi, sarpanch of the village, told Telangana Today: “A tab was kept on outsiders entering the village. A wooden gate has been erected at the entrance of the village to stop outsiders from entering without registering themselves. Covid guidelines are strictly enforced here. With the cooperation of locals, we have succeeded in making the settlement Covid-free,” the sarpanch said.

Israel’s Netanyahu ‘determined’ to continue Gaza operation

At least 219 Palestinians have been killed in the current fighting, including 63 children and 36 women, with 1,530 people wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not break the numbers down into fighters and civilians. HiIndia Newsdesk Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Wednesday to press ahead with a fierce military offensive in the Gaza Strip, pushing back against calls from the United States to wind down the operation that has left hundreds dead. Netanyahu’s tough comments marked the first public rift between the two close allies since the fighting began last week and could complicate international efforts to reach a cease-fire. His pushback also plunges the pair into a difficult early test of the U.S.-Israel relationship.

Israel continued to pound Hamas targets in Gaza with airstrikes, while Palestinian militants bombarded Israel with rocket fire throughout the day. In another sign of potential escalation, militants in Lebanon fired a rocket barrage into northern Israel. After a visit to military headquarters, Netanyahu said he appreciated “the support of the American president,” but he said Israel would push ahead to return “calm and security” to Israeli citizens. He said he was “determined to continue this operation until its aim is met.”

Jabs work against Indian variant: UK

HiIndia Newsdesk Britain is increasingly confident that vaccines work against the coronavirus variant first found in India, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday, with a leading epidemiologist saying it may be spreading less quickly than at first feared. Johnson has warned that the emergence of the B.1.617.2 variant might derail his plans to lift England’s lockdown fully on June 21, but on Wednesday he said the latest data had been encouraging. “We have increasing confidence vaccines are effective against all variants, including the Indian variant,” he told parliament. Johnson last week said the extent to which the variant could disrupt the planned exit from lockdown would depend on how much more transmissible it was.

HiIndia Newsdesk They’ve been hailed as virus success stories - places that have seen virtually zero or single-digit Covid cases since the start of the year. Both places have gone into a heightened state of restrictions, limiting the size of social gatherings and closing schools. By global standards, these numbers may seem small - but for these places, these figures would have been unthinkable just months ago.

n the beginning of 2020, just as Chicago based Dr Mehbub Kapadia had made all his plans to retire after decades of serving the community and gaining tremendous goodwill, something unimaginable happened. The Covid-19 pandemic hit the world and the US badly, leaving people in a state of fear and anxiety and in dire need of medical attention. Dr Kapadia, a first generation immigrant from India, who came to the US in the 1980’s had spent his life caring and curing the sick and downtrodden, could not imagine just sitting back and enjoying his retirement as he had originally planned. Dr Kapadia already had a spark in mind to contribute to the society; just in time his two sons Dr Sameer, a surgeon who is completing his fellowship and Zul who is pursuing his masters’ in public administration from Harvard University came to his rescue. The family decided to embark on an ambitious, even intimidating project – to provide Covid testing to every person in the Chicagoland area who may need it and most of all to make it accessible to the underserved and minority communities. As soon as the Covid vaccine was made available the Kapadia family dove right into their vision and thought of an extraordinary vaccination drive. While younger son, Zul, had developed an operational technology for mass Covid testing and vaccination, older son Sameer, a surgeon alongwith his wife Dr Shivika Trivedi Kapadia were working on the infrastructure and practical necessities required for their family mission. Dr Mehbub Kapadia, who had years of experience and massive goodwill in his community convinced the authorities to give him permission to vaccinate. Talking to Hi! India Dr Kapadia says, “It was a lot of hard work, a lot of

They have a vaccine wastage rate of less than 0.1%, that they ensure vaccinations even if they have to work till midnight. Dr Mehbub Kapadia says, we have been able to vaccinate 150,000 people despite the fact that we have been struggling with grants, if the authorities support me with funds I am confident that I can replicate the model in the country and get every American vaccinated.” The family treats the gratitude and blessings they get from people as their ultimate reward. Dr Sameer Kapadia says, “Our first vaccination drive was in a Hispanic neighborhood and people were full of gratitude that we reached out to them. Dr Mehbub adds, “A 98-yeay-old Chinese lady hugged me and said – doctor you have given me a new life. Another African American lady told me when we reached the Naperville neighborhood, that none of their community doctors had reached them. From Hispanics to Indians to Pakistanis – our doors have been open to everyone who is needy. That is the essence of my work.” THE EARLY YEARS The Kapadias are a first generation Indian immigrant family in Chicago. Dr Mehbub Kapadia was the first from the family to make America his home back in the 80’s. He is a well-known and popular face in the Devon Avenue

neighborhood as he was the first ever doctor to set up a clinic in the Devon area in Chicago. In 1988, when he opened his clinic – Prism Holistic Care, there were no doctors in this heavily Indian immigrant populated area. On why he chose to be in Devon, even though he had a million dollar job waiting for him in Galena, Illinois is another interesting story. Dr Kapadia recalls, “I had applied at the Galena Strauss Hospital for the national emergency service and when I got the call, I rushed there to find that they were in a dire need of a doctor else the facility would have closed down. I got to work straight away and next morning we were able to admit 25 patients in a 20 bed hospital. I worked there for three months for no money as those were early days in my career. Impressed they offered me a job that paid half a million dollar in the first year and a million dollar in. next year. But I chose to not take up that offer and

Brothers Dr Sameer and Zul have been instrumental in helping their dad through the Vaccinaton drive came back to Chicago instead. My heart was in Devon as I saw how acutely the Indian and South Asian population needed a physician there. I found another doctor and opened a medical center in Devon. At that time, it was a poor neighborhood where people worked at $4 for an hour. I had 16 patients on my first day and over all these years, I can say this on record I have never sent reminders to my patients to pay me. If they can pay me, they pay, if not, I just let it go. There was a time when 90 percent of my patients would get consultations for free. I never had the heart or nerve to ask them for money. Initial days of my career, while we were seeing a lot of patients for free and making hardly any money, I would still keep my staff as I felt letting them go would mean they would have to fend for their families. Many thought this was crazy but someone up there was taking care of me. I had a great career and was planning to completely retire when Covid-19 hit and change my plans. From not finding a place to set up vaccination spots to realtor Mark Ahmed offering me a parking lot, putting up a tent for Home Depot that blew off in two days in Chicagos’ weather to getting 10 then 15 reaching to 50 to 100 and them more and more people coming in, we have had a long eventful journey. We are now a 350 employee unit with million dollar payroll. We bought the minority employees, taught them expertise, 90 percent of our employees are African Americans who we put on a $21 per hour pay roll at a time when people were not even paying $14 per hour. PASSAGE TO AMERICA Dr Kapadias’ zeal to give back perhaps comes from his own journey that has

Dr Kapadia with Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Manav Seva staff been one of ups and downs. He came to the US as a young doctor to attend a conference. It wasn’t easy for him to get a visa as a young, unmarried, doctor but his willingness to help people saw him through. He recalls, after he had applied for the US visa to attend a medical conference, he happened to meet the director of American Center Library in Mumbai (then called Bombay) he was carrying an audio tape from an acquaintance at the Rotary International in his home town of Baroda to hand over to the director as it contained a speech that had to be transcribed. While Dr Kapadias’ job ended there, he heard the director talking to his staff how they were short of people and it was impossible for them to transcribe the contents of the tape. Dr Kapadia decided to pitch in here and offered to do it for them voluntarily. He recalls, “I sat for 12 hours straight with no food, and got the job done. I did it because I felt I was a good typist and could help them out. I thought nothing of it, until the director asked me why I was there and impressed. He wrote a letter to the consulate applauding my association with Rotary international.” He recalls, “I didn’t realize the importance of this letter, until I was turned down the visa by the officer. When I produced the letter, the story of my life changed and I was granted the visa, as the person who had recommended me was the highly respected official.” Dr Kapadia came to the US and after his conference decided to volunteer with the Salvation Army during the days he had on his visa. His work ethics and research he did was so impressive that people began recommending him and he bagged another volunteer research job with Red Cross. After his brief visit he went back to India but was sponsored again by American Red Cross. He came back to the US and worked tirelessly to carve a place of himself in America. Dr Kapadia also met his wife Seema Kapadia in Chicago. He says, “She used to live in the same building as I was and I saw this young lady taking utmost care of her mother. I knew I wanted a caring person like her in my life. She belongs to Karachi, Pakistan but grew up in Canada and was living in the US when I met her. She has been the backbone in giving my sons exceptional parenting and values.” FAMILY AND COMMUNITY The Kapadia family has been an example of how South Asian culture and values can seamlessly mingle in the American heartland. The Kapadias lived in a multi-generational household along with Dr Mehbub Kapadias parents until they passed away a few years ago. Recalling their growing up years, Sameer says, “It was a pleasure to share the space with my parents and grandparents in the same house. It wasn’t very common amongst our peers in school. Also we had a very diverse group of friends. Our family was typically Indian and sometimes my white friends would be perplexed to see how many people were visiting in and out of home. But it was fun. The credit goes to my mom who managed it all so well and taught us what family values are.” The Kapadias belong to the Ismaili community that is very well-knit and integrated. Dr Kapadia says, “We are a very progressive community, where you will find women are more educated than men. We believe a lot in extending help. We are always there not just for each other but for the world at large. THE NEXT STEPS After the very successful vaccination drive in Chicagoland, the Kapadias are now looking at India. Dr Kapadia says, “I am already in talks with organizations to provide us with permits and necessary requirements so that we can take our vaccination drive to India. Our aim is to reach every small village and town in India and ensure that people get their Covid vaccines. It’s a big dream but we are positive that we will be able to achieve it, “ says Dr Kapadia with an infectious smile.

India’s world record holder weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has learned her lessons from the in Rio meltdown five years ago and is now confident of doing well at the Tokyo Olympics. Last month, Mirabai had revealed that she was “completely broken” after the failure at the 2016 Rio Olympics and talking to a psychologist helped her get back on track. She said she has evolved as a weightlifter since the last Olympics, changing and tweaking techniques. “I learned a lot by participating in the Rio Olympics. In fact, I have learned everything from Rio — from my weaknesses to how to rectify them, how to improve myself in terms of training and performance in competition,” Mirabai said in a video posted by Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Monday. Mirabai had put up a highly disappointing performance at the Rio Games as she could not get an overall total in women’s 48kg after failing to lift the weight in any of her three attempts in clean & jerk section. But since then, she has won the gold medal in the World Championship and Commonwealth Games, and things are looking bright for the 26-year-old Manipuri athlete. Asked about deriving inspiration, it was no surprise when she mentioned the name of Kunjarani Devi, the first superstar of Indian weightlifting. “I would look up to Kunjarani madam a lot, she was a top player, and from Manipur. I would also think that I have to be like madam, win lots of medals like her. “Whenever I am in any doubt or under any sort of pressure, I look at my videos and try to motivate myself,” Mirabai said. Among others, Kunjarani, 53, won seven world championships silver medals and two Asian Games bronze during a decorated career.

He said Amazon mistakenly delivered him a Redmi Note 4 and he has raised the issue with them through an email as well to get the smartphone sent its actual owner. When A Frustrated Jeff Bezos Told Alexa To “Shoot Yourself”

Scammers are adapting to the changing, tech-driven world and finding new ways to defraud people of their hard-earned money. In the latest case to surface, online scammers duped a cryptocurrency investor of £9,000 (roughly ₹ 9.28 lakh) using the name of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has repeatedly supported Dogecoin, a meme currency, on his social media accounts and once even said crypto could be the world’s future currency. Now, the victim of the fraud has come forward to warn others to not commit the same mistake she did. Julie Bushnell said she lost the money she had saved for a new home after falling for

a Bitcoin fraud that used a fake story that featured Mr Musk. The BBC reported that the fraudsters created a website that appeared similar to its own BBC News website to add authenticity to the fake news item. It also shared a s cre enshot of the fake rep or t. Bushnell told the British TV network that she felt ashamed and embarrassed after falling for the fraud. She said she thinks about it “every minute of every day”. Detailing what had happened, the Brighton teacher said she paid £9,000 after reading a news on a website that resembled BBC News and claimed that Mr Musk would pay back double the amount of any Bitcoin deposit. When no money came, she realised she had been conned.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos once told an early prototype of his company’s virtual assistant Alexa to “shoot yourself in the head” in frustration, a new book has revealed. Jeff Bezos was testing the device at his Seattle home in 2013 when he lost his temper at its lack of understanding, Brad Stone wrote in his book ‘Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,’ which was released on Tuesday. “In pique of frustration over its lack of comprehension, he told Alexa to go ‘shoot yourself in the head’,” Mr Stone wrote in his book. The harsh words were delivered during the testing of an early device powered by Alexa. At that time, the project was referred to as “Doppler” - and engineers who reviewed the interaction said they thought the project was doomed. “We all thought it might be the end of the project, or at least the end of a few of us at Amazon,” one engineer told Mr Stone. Engineers at Amazon eventually did figure out how to make Alexa smarter. The first version of the AI technology was launched in 2014 along with the Amazon Echo smart speakers.

Sanjana Ganesan Is All Smiles Man Left Dangling From 330-Foot Glass After Reuniting Bumrah At Bridge As Strong Winds Shatter Panels Home After IPL 2021

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s wife Sanjana Ganesan was all smiles as she reunited with her husband after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was postponed indefinitely. Sanjana and Bumrah, who got married in March, were part of the IPL 2021 and returned home after the tournament was postponed indefinitely midseason earlier this week. While Bumrah played for the Mumbai Indians, Sanjana was one of the presenters appointed by the official broadcasters of the tournament. In the loved up picture Sanjana posted on Twitter she can be seen sporting a broad smile, while siting next to her husband. The picture also shows the power couple wearing the same colour t-shirts.

A man in China was left dangling from a 330-feet-high, glass-bottomed bridge after its panels were damaged by strong winds. The terrifying incident occurred on Friday when the man was visiting the bridge located in the Piyan Mountain Cultural Tourism Scenic Area outside the city of Longjing, reports CNN. China is home to a number of glass bridges, walkways and slides - and they have become popular destinations for tourists and thrill-seekers. In this instance, however, one tourist got more than he bargained for when bad weather and high winds blew away glass pieces from the bottom of the bridge. Officials say that the bridge was hit by high winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour when the incident occurred. An image that was posted on Chinese social media site Weibo, and has since gone viral online, shows the man clinging to the railing of the bridge. According to BBC, rescue teams and firefighters were called to help the man and rushed to the scene on Friday. However, the stranded tourist managed to get back to safety with help from on-site staff. He was taken to a hospital and discharged after observation. “The staff of the scenic area rushed to the scene as soon as possible, brought emergency equipment and successfully transferred the trapped person to a safe area,” said a statement posted to Longjing City’s Weibo page. It added that there were no casualties.

Impressed by the technology, one user said, “Sometimes you just got to stare at these videos, amazed at how they’re actually a reality. Too awesome.” However, many others also had a bunch of questions regarding the usability of the suit in a conflict zone. For instance, one user asked how the officer would be able to tackle an enemy if both his hands were strapped to the suit. “How do you shoot back if fired upon?” he asked. Offering a suggestion, a user who goes by the name Tom Saunders, said, “The progress y’all are making is incredible! Keep up the great work, and maybe

move the hand system to the feet with an exoskeletal support frame around the hips and legs to free up that soldier’s hands.” Another user asked, “What do you do if you fall into the water? I don’t know how much the equipment weighs but would be able to shed it quickly so you don’t sink?”

California Governor Candidate Brings 500 Kg Bear To Rally

One of the many Republican candidates vying to replace the governor of California in an upcoming vote caused a stir Tuesday by bringing a bear to his political rally. John Cox is campaigning on the theme of “beauty and the beast” -- the “beauty” being current Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, known for his primped appearance in the state that is home to Hollywood. bCox has cast himself as the “beast” who will shake up politics in the most populous US state, where a brown bear features prominently on its flag. “The beautiful politicians have failed California,” Cox said during a rally in Sacramento, the state capital. “We need big, beastly changes to save it. I’ll cut taxes, make California more affordable and shake up Sacramento.” For a publicity stunt, Cox brought a Kodiak bear, considered the largest ursine species, to his rally. The bear, named “Tag,” weighs about 1,100 pounds (500 kilograms) and was born in captivity and trained to appear in films and television series.

Now, unique roles are written for actors my age: Neena Gupta

N

eena Gupta vividly remembers sharing the post on Instagram in 2017, seeking work. If she felt trepidation about how the post would be received, it was overridden by her frustration of not finding equal opportunities and her determination to pursue the craft nonetheless. “I remember when I posted that [message] a few years back, and I am grateful that I have so much work today. Please nazar mat lagao,” laughs Gupta, who fought her way back into the industry that would not acknowledge senior female actors, let alone write roles for them. A stream of noteworthy films with her in pivotal roles, and awards followed. And with it, came a lesson for Bollywood — the often-propagated idea that female actors have a short shelf life was a thing of the past. Today, as she stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Arjun Kapoor as the central character of Sardar Ka Grandson, Gupta, 63, is proud to be a catalyst in the changing ways of the industry. “Things have changed for actors my age. Now, unique roles are being written for us, which never used to happen before.”

Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe’ is Among His Worst Rated Films on IMDb

Veteran actor KD Chandran, known for his role as Juhi Chawla’s father in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, passed away on Sunday morning. The actor, who was admitted to Criti Care Hospital in Mumbai, died due to a heart attack. His daughter and actor-dancer Sudha Chandran confirmed the news. In a conversation with Aaj Tak, the actor said that her father was not keeping well. KD Chandran has acted in films such as Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Tere Mere Sapne, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, China Gate, Pukar, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Shararat, Koi Mil Gaya and TV series Gulmohar.

Salman Khan and Disha Patani starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai has seemingly failed to strike the right cords with the watchers. After the movie opted for a hybrid release model, there was the option to watch it from the comfort of one’s home. However, the ratings on IMDb suggest that it did not impress those who watched it as it secured a low rating of 2.5 out of 10, becoming one of Salman’s lowest rated films. Saawan… The Love Season (2006) and Race 3 (2019) score worse than Radhe, with IMDb ratings of 2.2 and 1.9 respectively. It’s quite evident that it has bombed on arrival. Meanwhile, The Outlaws, which has inspired Radhe, has a good IMDb rating of 7.2. Even the early reviews of Radhe have been lukewarm. News18 gave 1.5 out of 5 stars to the movie as it mentioned that it is just a star vehicle for Salman without any coherent screenplay or character development. “Radhe is a collage of high-pitched songs and slow-motion shots that made us cringe even five years back. You need to have a high appetite for Salman’s antics to enjoy this one,”

Have Too Much Craving for Pickles? WHO believes that to lower the risk of heart disease, adults should reduce salt intake to less than 2 grams a day. According to National Center for Biotechnology Information, the close relationship between hypertension and dietary sodium intake is widely recognized and supported by several studies. A reduction in dietary sodium not only decreases the blood pressure and the incidence of hypertension, but is also associated with a reduction in morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that to lower the risk of heart disease, adults should reduce sodium intake to less than 2 grams a day, or the equivalent of about one teaspoon of table salt. Hypertension can lead to cardiovascular diseases. The rise in blood pressure caused by eating too much salt may damage the arteries leading to the heart. According to a study published in the journal Hypertension, about half of adults living in Asia are suffering from the high blood pressure. While lifestyle factors, including diet and stress, are behind the high hypertension rates in Asia, one common problem is high salt intake, the study showed. Asians not only tend to have diets high in sodium, but they are genetically more sensitive to sodium, the researchers said. “Raised blood pressure due to high salt consumption is the biggest single contributing risk factor for non-communicable diseases and damage to your kidney,” Bhupendra Gandhi of the NGO Amar Gandhi Foundation. High blood pressure can harden your arteries, which decreases the flow of blood and oxygen. An impairment of the flow of oxygen, to an organ such as your face, can cause your skin to dry and wrinkles faster which can make one look less youthfuL. Health is wealth. So, cutting down on salt consumption in everyday life, including fried foods, processed foods, can not only curb the problem of hypertension but also save multiple organs from damage and pave way for a healthy and a happy life.

Onion Oil For Hair Fall, Thinning And Dandruff Issues Onion hair oil helps nourish your hair strands to make them look healthy and lustrous.

O

nion hair oil helps nourish your hair strands to make them look healthy and lustrous. It enables hair growth, therefore improving thinning and adding volume to their hair. Massaging onion oil with consistent small circular motions into the scalp can boost blood circulation which in turn helps in strengthening the roots.

According to report, Shrey Jain and Dr. Vivek Mehta, co-founders of Corporation, underline the benefits of onion oil: • Onion is highly nutritious, which helps in enabling hair growth • It helps to add strength to weak hair strands especially caused due to pollution • Due to its organic nature, onion hair oil nourishes the hair follicles to increase hair volume and improve strength • Onion oil when massaged into the scalp by applying simple massage techniques enables good blood circulation that helps moisturise the scalp, reduces thinning and breakage • Juice of onion also helps control dandruff and reveals sparkling stronger hair • The potent antibacterial properties in onion hair oil help fight infections of the scalp. This reduces hair fall as scalp infections can cause massive loss of hair • Onion is rich in naturally potent antioxidants, which is why it helps reverse the effects of premature greying. • This magical vegetable lends a healthy shine to the hair, which can become permanent when used regular • The rich in sulphur vegetable has so many advantages that it makes for the best daily use. Thanks to its infection-fighting capabilities it can also prevent lice infestation.

Top New York fine dining restaurant turns vegan in pandemic

Eleven Madison Park has been one of New York’s top fine dining restaurants. It has decided to take out all meat-centric dishes from its menu, a move that could shock its elite pre-pandemic patrons looking to go back to devouring American cuisine. The report states that Daniel Humm is the “driving force” behind the restaurant. He has said in a statement posted on the eatery’s website: “We have always operated with sensitivity to the impact we have on our surroundings, but it was becoming ever clearer that the current food system is simply not sustainable, in so many ways… It was clear that after everything we all experienced this past year, we couldn’t open the same restaurant.”

A 2-Hour Dose of Nature Each Week Could Make You Happier and Healthier Forget your complicated and expensive wellness regime and just . . . go outside.

I

f you’re feeling stressed and want to take advantage of the health benefits of spending time in nature—which studies say can reduce depression and anxiety, lower blood pressure, cut the risk of other diseases, and boost creativity and cognitive abilities—you might want to aim for two hours outside a week. A study looked at data from a U.K. government survey that asked nearly 20,000 people in the U.K. to track their activities for a week. Those who spent two hours in nature, whether that happened in one trip or several smaller visits to a park, were If you’re feeling stressed significantly more likely to report better health and want to take advantage and well-being than those who spent less time outside. After about 200 to 300 total minutes of the health benefits of outside, the effect peaked. spending time in nature— It’s one of the first studies to try to quantify which studies say can reduce exactly how much time people should spend outside. The researchers, based at University of depression and anxiety, Exeter Medical School, saw that doctors were lower blood pressure, cut beginning to get questions from patients about the risk of other diseases, the benefits of exposure to nature. “They’re coming to us and saying ‘Doctor, how long and boost creativity and do I have to spend?’” says Mathew White, an cognitive abilities—you environmental psychologist and senior lecturer might want to aim for two at the university and lead author of the study. hours outside a week. “And doctors are saying, ‘We don’t really know.’ So what we’re trying to do here is give doctors and patients the kind of evidence base that they can say, why don’t you try two hours a week?’ If you’re trying to count up your minutes, know that outside doesn’t just mean walking to the store or spending time in your backyard. The study says it looked at “open spaces in and around towns and cities, including parks, canals, and nature areas; the coast and beaches; and the countryside including farmland, woodland, hills and rivers.” So it will take some effort to get the time you need—though most of the locations the subjects visited were within two miles of their homes—but it may be worth it. The benefits were separate from any exercise that people got while outside. “The exercise is good in and of itself,” he says. “This is the benefit on top. And one way we know that is because a big proportion of our sample are not exercising—let alone in a park—and they’re still showing benefits to the health and well-being from sitting down and having picnics and that kind of stuff.” It could be the first step in developing a new government guideline that recommends a particular amount of time outside, similar to the guidelines for exercise. Doctors in some health centers are already beginning to “prescribe” nature to patients; in Scotland, for example, the National Health Service in the Shetland Islands recommends walks on the beach and other outdoor activities. But more studies like this could help make those prescriptions most effective. The next step, White says, will be to build on this research, which looked at data from a single week. “What we really need is a longitudinal cohort of a few thousand people that we monitor for a few years to see what happens when they change their exposure to nature and what happens in the period afterward—months and years—to their health and well-being,” he says.

Habits of Super-Healthy People Have Breakfast: It’s important for a

bunch of reasons. It jump-starts your metabolism and stops you from overeating later. Plus, studies show that adults who have a healthy breakfast do better at work, and kids who eat a morning meal score higher on tests. Just don’t skip it.

Plan Your Meals: It’ll help you save time

and money in the long run. Block out some time, then sit down and consider your goals and needs. Do you want to lose weight? Cut back on sugar, fat, or carbs? Add protein or vitamins? Meal prep keeps you in control. You know what you’re eating and when.

Drink Plenty of Water :

It can do so many good things for you. Staying hydrated is at the top of the list, but it may also help you lose weight. Another reason to go for H2O? If you aren’t a fan of plain water, add flavor with slices of orange, lemon, lime, watermelon, or cucumber.

Take an Exercise Break: Don’t just grab

another cup of coffee -- get up and move. Do some deep lunges or stretches. It’s great for your body and mind. Just 30 minutes of walking five times a week may help keep the blues at bay.

Go Offline: Checking your email and

social media a lot? Sure, your friends’ and family’s latest updates are just a click away, but do you really need to see pictures of your cousin’s latest meal? Let it wait until morning. Set a time to log off and put the phone down. When you cut back on screen time, it frees you to do other things. Take a walk, read a book, or help your cousin chop veggies for their next great dinner. [more in next issue]
