Biden pitches ‘once in a generation investment’ to Congress
HiIndia Newsdesk US President Joe Biden has laid out sweeping proposals for jobs, education and social care in his first speech to a joint session of Congress. Delivered on the eve of his 100th day in office, the Democrat pitched plans involving some $4 trillion (£2.9tn) in spending - the largest overhaul of US benefits since the 1960s, analysts say. He called it a “once in a generation investment in America itself ”.But the proposals face strong opposition from the Republican party. Republican Senator Tim Scott called Mr Biden’s agenda a “liberal wish list of big government waste” while senior Republican official Ronna McDaniel said his first 100 days had been an “unqualified failure”.

Stressing Diplomacy, Biden Says Not Seeking Conflict With China, Russia HiIndia Newsdesk Washington: US President Joe Biden said Wednesday he was not seeking conflict with China or Russia as he put a renewed focus on diplomacy in his first address to Congress. In a speech focused on selling major investments at home, Biden told lawmakers who months earlier had dodged a deadly insurrection that they needed to show democracy can work. “We’re in a competition with China and other countries to win the 21st century,” Biden said, warning: “Autocrats think democracies can’t compete.” Biden said he told President Xi Jinping in a twohour first phone conversation after taking office: “We welcome the competition -- and that we are not looking for conflict.”
Gilead announces steps to expand availability of remdesivir in India HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk A bipartisan group of US senators on Tuesday urged the Biden administration to slap more sanctions on the military junta in Myanmar, including choking revenues to a state energy company, in response to its coup and violent crackdown on protesters. Senators Jeff Merkley, a Democrat, and Marco Rubio, a Republican, and four others urged secretary of state Antony Blinken and treasury secretary Janet Yellen in a letter to “explore new avenues to support the people of Burma in their ongoing struggle for democracy in the face of escalating crimes against humanity”.
US eases mask guidance
HiIndia Newsdesk Americans who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus no longer need to wear masks outdoors if they’re walking, running, hiking or biking alone, with members of their household, or if they attend small outdoor gatherings, federal health officials announced on Tuesday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stopped short of telling those people that they could shed their masks altogether in outdoor settings — citing the worrying risk that remains for transmitting the coronavirus, unknown vaccination levels among people in crowds and the still highcaseloads in some regions of the country.
American biopharmaceutical company Gilead has announce d steps to expand t he avai labi lity of remdesivir, a key therapeutic medicine used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, in India. “The recent surge of COVID-19 cases in India is having a devastating impact on communities and has created unprecedented pressure on health systems,” Johanna Mercier, chief commercial officer of Gilead Sciences said on Monday. The company announced that it was

providing its voluntary licensing partners technical assistance, support for addition of new local manufacturing facilities and donation of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to rapidly scale up the production of remdesivir. Remdesivir is approved in India for restricted emergency use for the treatment of suspected or laboratoryconfirmed COVID-19 in adults and children hospitalised with severe disease. In addition to providing support to its licensees to expand their local manufacturing capacity, Gilead will also donate at least 450,000 vials of Veklury (remdesivir) to help address the immediate needs of Indian patients, the company said.
Hope Biden asks Pfizer CEO to allow India to develop its vaccines: Congressman Ro Khanna
US Is “On The Move Again”, Says Biden In First Address To Congress
HiIndia Newsdesk With millions of lives at stake amid a rapid spread of COVID-19, IndianAmerican Congressman Ro Khanna said he hoped President Joe Biden would call the Pfizer CEO to let India produce its vaccine at least for six months or a year. “Allow India to develop that vaccine, and this is good in your own longterm interests. It’s good for the United States and our interests with the role with India and the rest of the world,” Khanna told the media.
Lauding the success of mass vaccination against Covid-19, Biden told Congress and the nation on primetime television that “in America, we always get up.”
Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins dies at 90
HiIndia Newsdesk Washington: President Joe Biden triumphantly declared Wednesday that the United States is “on the move again” in a rousing speech to Congress, calling for trillions of dollars to rebuild the postCovid US middle class and give new life to “forgotten” workers. Lauding the success of mass vaccination against Covid-19, Biden told Congress and the nation on primetime television that “in America, we always get up.” “America is ready for takeoff,” he said. “We are working again, dreaming again,
discovering again, leading the world again.” Biden, who was celebrating the eve of his 100th day in office, called the vaccine rollout one of “the greatest logistical achievements” in the nation’s history. But he quickly pivoted to insisting that this national effort must now focus on rebuilding the economy and fighting inequality with “the largest jobs plan since World War II.” In a line that could have come from his populist Republican predecessor Donald Trump, Biden said working class Americans had been ignored, while the top one percent got richer, and that his plans would give them a chance. You feel left behind and forgotten in an economy that’s rapidly changing. Let me speak directly to you,” Biden said, before going on to promise Americans “goodpaying jobs that can’t be outsourced.” n every aspect of the primetime television speech, Biden echoed his almost daily mantra that “America is back” -- both in recovering from the coronavirus disaster and in putting the turbulence of the Trump era behind.

He died on Wednesday after “a valiant battle with cancer. He spent his final days peacefully, with his family by his side,” they said. Collins had stayed in lunar orbit as his colleagues Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon. Aldrin, 91, is now the only surviving member of the mission.

Covid: Turkey prepares for China launches first module Brazil health regulator rejects of new space station Russia’s Sputnik vaccine its first full lockdown
HiIndia Newsdesk The streets are crowded, the shopping centres busy and the traffic heavy. Some flock to the main bus terminal to get out of Istanbul, while others are trying to stockpile alcohol amid news of a “booze ban”. This is the mood as Turkey prepares later on Thursday to enter its first full lockdown of the pandemic, to curb a surge in infections and deaths. WhatsApp groups are now dominated by messages about how life will be in the coming days. This time last year, Turkey was seen as a success story for its early combative action and was even praised by the WHO. One year on, it is among the countries worst affected by Covid, with the highest infection rate in Europe.
18 hurt in knife attack in China school
HiIndia Newsdesk China has launched a key module of a new permanent space station, the latest in Beijing’s increasingly ambitious space program. The Tianhe module - which contains living quarters for crew members - was launched from the Wenchang Space Launch Centre on a Long March-5B rocket. China hopes to have the new station operational by 2022. The only space station currently in orbit is the International Space Station, from which China is excluded. China has been a late starter when it comes to space exploration. It was only in 2003 that it sent its first astronaut into orbit, making it the third country to do so, after the Soviet Union and the US.
HiIndia Newsdesk The Brazilian health regulator Anvisa on Monday rejected importing the Russian-made Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine requested by state governors battling a deadly second wave of the virus that is battering Latin America’s largest nation. Anvisa’s five-strong board voted unanimously not to approve the Russian vaccine after technical staff had highlighted “inherent risks” and “serious” defects, citing a lack of information guaranteeing its safety, quality and effectiveness. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which markets the Sputnik V vaccine abroad, rejected Anvisa’s comments, saying the shot’s safety and efficacy had been assessed by regulators in 61 countries which approved it for use.

Myanmar call: Don’t pay bills, skip school
Activists opposed to Myanmar’s military junta called on people to stop paying electricity bills and agricultural loans from Monday and to keep their children away from school, raising new doubts about a bid by a regional bloc to end a post-coup crisis. Scattered protests took place in Myanmar’s big cities on Sunday, a day after Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reached an agreement at a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in Indonesia on steps to bring peace.
HiIndia Newsdesk Brussels: Russian and Chinese media are systematically seeking to sow mistrust in Western COVID-19 vaccines in their latest disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing the West, a European report said on Wednesday.` From December to April, the two countries’ state media outlets pushed fake news online in multiple languages sensationalising vaccine safety concerns, making unfounded links between jabs and deaths in Europe and promoting Russian and Chinese vaccines as superior, the EU study said.
B r i t a i n’s P r i n c e Charles on Wednesday made an impassioned plea as he backed an emergenc y app eal launched by his charity, British Asian Trust, and urged people to help India as it copes with a “horrific” second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 72-year-old heir to the British throne spoke of his “great love” for India, where he has paid several visits, and said that those suffering the effects of this pandemic in the country are in his “thoughts and prayers”. “For well over a year the pandemic has had a devastating impact on so many of us around the world. This week, I have been deeply saddened by the tragic images we have all seen as COVID-19 takes its horrific toll in India,” read a statement by Prince Charles, released by Clarence House.
Ramaphosa admits to ANC’s Saudi Arabia’s crown prince seeks good relations with Iran failure to stop corruption HiIndia Newsdesk South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has admitted to the failure of the ruling party to prevent corruption during former president Jacob Zuma’s rule. He said the African National Congress (ANC) should have done more to prevent corruption, as he gave his testimony before a judicial inquiry probing allegations of corruption during Mr Zuma’s term as president. He said the ANC had not lived up to the expectations of the South African people in enforcing accountability, noting that corruption had undermined the rule of law. “We all acknowledge that the organisation could and should have done more to prevent the abuse of power and the misappropriation of resources that defined the era of state capture,” he said. The president was speaking before the commission as head of the ANC and is expected to continue his testimony on Thursday.
HiIndia Newsdesk Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman says it wants “good relations” with its archrival Iran. The prince told Al Arabiya T V t hat h is c ou nt r y wanted Iran to help push the Middle East towards prosperity. But he noted that it had an issue with “Iran’s negative behaviour”, citing its nuclear programme, missile launches and support for “outlaw militias”. He added that Saudi Arabia was working with its regional and global partners “to find solutions to these problems”. The prince’s comments come days after reports emerged that top Saudi and Iranian officials had held secret talks in Iraq in a bid to repair relations.

HiIndia Newsdesk Washington: The United States is sending supplies worth more than $100 million to India to help it fight a surge of COVID-19 cases, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday. 1.33 crore register for vaccines
“It Appears You Want People To Die”: High Court On Centre’s COVID-19 Protocol On Remdesivir
HiIndia Newsdesk
The government on Wednesday extended the Covid-19 vaccination drive to a larger and younger population group by opening up registrations on the Co-WIN platform to those in the 18-44 age bracket. By the end of the day, the number of registrations touched almost 1.33 crore. Given the scale of the ‘rationed’ vaccination — an average of 25-30 lakh doses a day — the first day registration of about 1.33 crore points to the daunting task the government faces in the coming weeks. First policy shift in 16 yrs: India open to foreign aid, ok to buying from China India now has “no conceptual problem” in procuring oxygen-related equipment and life-saving medicines from China, a source said, adding that on Pakistan, New Delhi has still not made up its mind on whether to accept aid — though it is unlikely to accept it. India now has “no conceptual problem” in procuring oxygen-related equipment and life-saving medicines from China, a source said, adding that on Pakistan, New Delhi has still not made up its mind on whether to accept aid — though it is unlikely to accept it. Besides, state governments are also free to procure these life-saving devices and medicines from foreign agencies, and the Central government will not come in the way.

Vaccine: ‘Merciful’ Poonawala
HiIndia Newsdesk The Serum Institute of India has cut its offer price for states from Rs 400 per dose of vaccine to Rs 300, projecting it as a “philanthropic gesture” amid outrage at what is being seen as profiteering from a pandemic that is devastating the country. “As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of Serum Institute India, I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs 400 to Rs 300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives,” Adar Poonawalla, chief executive of Punebased Serum Institute, said in a tweet on Wednesday. Different prices for the same vaccine — Rs 150 per dose for the Centre, Rs 400 for the states and Rs 600 for private hospitals — had earned the world’s largest vaccine maker bad publicity. Bharat Biotech, the other vaccine maker, has announced far higher prices for the states and private hospitals — Rs 600 and Rs 1,200, respectively — than the Rs 150 per dose for the Centre.

Didn’t Ask Facebook To Drop #ResignModi, Report “Mischievous”: Government
HiIndia Newsdesk New Delhi: The central government on Thursday permitted the import of 17 medical devices for three months with mandatory declarations required under the Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 after custom clearance and before sale amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Union Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed the news on Twitter. “Government under the leadership of PM @NarendraModi Ji permits importers of medical devices for making mandatory declarations required under Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 after custom clearance and before the sale. This will help fulfill the demand of medical devices required for COVID-19,” Mr Goyal tweeted. The importer, importing the said medical devices under the permission shall inform all such imports with quality imported to the Director (Legal Metrology) and Controller (Legal Metrology) in the state, where the import is made,” the ministry statement read.
PM Modi reviews Army’s preparedness, initiatives for management of Covid crisis
HiIndia Newsdesk Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reviewed Army’s preparedness and initiatives for Covid-19 management when Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane called on him. “They discussed various initiatives being taken by the Army to help in Covid management,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement. General Naravane informed PM Modi that medical staff of the Army is being made available to various state governments. HiIndia Newsdesk Social media giant Facebook on Thursday said it had temporarily blocked a hashtag calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation “by mistake” and that it wasn’t done on government orders. The development comes amid reports that social media companies are being asked to remove posts that are critical of the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. “We temporarily blocked this hashtag by mistake, not because the Indian government asked us to, and have since restored it,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement.
HiIndia Newsdesk New Delhi: A Wall Street Journal report that alleged that the temporary blocking of the hashtag #ResignModi was an attempt to curb public dissent is “misleading” and “mischievous”, the government said today, emphatically denying that it directed Facebook to do so. “A story by Wall Street Journal attributing removal of a certain hashtag by Facebook to GOI’s efforts to curb public dissent is misleading on facts and mischievous in intent,” the government said in a statement on the report titled “Facebook Blocks, Then Restores, Content Calling on Indian Prime Minister Modi to Resign”. “The government has not issued any direction to remove this hashtag. Facebook has also clarified that it was removed by mistake,” it said. The government also referred to what it called a “completely fake and manufactured” report on March 5 in the Wall Street Journal. “It is pertinent to mention that on 5th March 2021 also, Wall Street Journal had published a fake news with heading - ‘India Threatens Jail for Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter Employees’. Government had sent an official rebuttal of this completely fake and manufactured story to Wall Street Journal,” the statement said.

‘National need’: SC allows Vedanta to run Sterlite plant
HiIndia Newsdesk The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Vedanta to operate its closed oxygen plant at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, saying the order has been passed in view of “national need” for oxygen. A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao and S Ravindra Bhat said Vedanta, however, shall not be allowed to enter and operate its copper smelting plant under the garb of this order. Special Report
Modi Government on the target of global mediaa
The situation in India has been deteriorating since the second wave of Corona. Looking at the state of special medical services for Corona, people are having to fight for hospital beds, oxygen and essential medicines. There are long lines in cemeteries and graveyards even if the corona dies. Under these circumstances, the foreign media is raising many sharp questions against the Modi government
Time Magazine: PM Modi fails to stop corona in India, vaccination is also slow
The BBC says India’s healthcare system has been hit hard
The prestigious Time magazine, in an April 23 article by Rana Ayub, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a failure in the Corona battle. The article questions whether any preparations were made in view of the increasing cases of corona. Targeting the Prime Minister, he wrote that the responsibility lies with those who ignored all the precautions. The responsibility lies with the cabinet which praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he had fought a successful battle against Corona in the country. Even testing slowed down. There was not much fear among the people about the terrible virus.
In an article published two days ago, Britain’s news agency BBC said that India’s healthcare system had been completely shattered by the recordbreaking Corona cases. People have to wait for hours for treatment. Hospitals do not have beds and oxygen. The reason for the increase in Corona’s case is the relaxation of health protocols, non-wearing of masks and the presence of millions of people at Kumbh Mela.
The Washington Post: Corona resurfaced in India as soon as restrictions were eased
The Washington Post, an American newspaper, wrote in its opinion on April 24 that the second biggest reason for the Corona wave in India was the rapid relaxation of controls. Of these, the people took the epidemic lightly. Examples of large-scale attendance of spectators at events like Kumbh Mela, Cricket Stadium. The risk of an epidemic in one place means the risk in all places. The Corona variant has become more lethal.
Australia’s Financial Review: Modi’s cartoon goes viral on social media The harshest reaction has been seen in the Australian newspaper Australian Financial Review. Cartoonist David Rowe has shown in a cartoon that India is a country as big as an elephant. It has fallen to the ground in a dying condition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sitting on a red cushioned seat on his back. He has a turban on his head and a mic in one hand. They are in a speech position. This cartoon is going very viral on social media.
The New York Times: Wrong decisions and government negligence have made Corona uncontrollable in India
The American newspaper The New York Times wrote in reference to India on April 25 that a year ago the world’s toughest lockdown was imposed and full control over the Corona was achieved, but later the warnings of experts were ignored. Today Corona’s case is going out of control. Hospitals do not have beds. Some states have imposed lockdowns. India has found it difficult to ignore the wrong decisions of the government and the difficulties to come.
The Guardian: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overconfidence responsible for bad situation in India
The British newspaper The Guardian has lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the dire situation of Corona in India. The second wave of the deadly Covid-19 is at a record high in the country due to the overconfidence of the Indian Prime Minister. People are now living in the worst conditions. Hospitals do not have both oxygen and beds. 6 weeks ago he declared India as a World Pharmacy, while even 1 per cent of the population in India has not been vaccinated.

HiIndia Newsdesk Hyderabad: Even as oxygen is turning out to be in severe shortage across the country, Telangana having taken up steps on a war footing, appears to be all set to tide over the intense second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic with sufficient oxygen in stock. The sustained efforts of the State government over the last one year, with timely decisions coming in from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, have seen procurement of additional stocks of medical oxygen through various sources and establishment of infrastructure to ramp up internal production, thus ensuring that there is no major shortage of oxygen anywhere in the State. To further augment the bed capacity in government hospitals for Covid patients, the State government will start utilising the 550-bed ESIC Hospital in Nacharam and utilise another 200 beds at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) from Wednesday. At present, the demand for medical oxygen among patients in Telangana hovers between

The KTCB members led by its convenor Sriramoju Haragopal found ‘Saptamatrukula shilpaphalakam’ belonging to Chalukya dynasty along with ‘Shivalingas’ and the face of ‘linga’. A flint arrow point of pre-history period and dual shaped axe with double convex belonging to neolithic period were also discovered apart from pottery dating to Shatavahana period. Haragopal said the KTCB members had already shared the information with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) about the exploration carried out in Kondapaka and its surroundings. He said the members of KTCB regularly visit the areas at Kondapaka and Mallannagutta and interact with farmers. “Whenever farmers carry out tilling in the area, they find colourful glass beads and terracotta beads and other rare objects,” he explained. He said microliths were also found in Kanchanapally, Ratanpur and Hasthalapur during their exploration.

Apart from that, Telangana has an internal production capacity of 120 metric tonnes with the Union Health Ministry recently permitting the State to draw an additional 70 metric tonnes of oxygen from the nearby Bellary Steel Plant. All this will add up to over 470 metric tonnes of oxygen, with which the State is expected to ride over the second wave. Apart from this, the State has been provided five oxygen concentrators, capable of producing oxygen from ambient air, which have been installed in five government hospitals. The oxygen concentrator at Gandhi Hospital can produce 29 lakh litres of oxygen per day, while at TIMS, Gachibowli, the machine can produce 14 lakh litres per day. At Khammam, it can produce 8.6 lakh litres per day, while at the Bhadrachalam Government Hospital, the oxygen concentrator can produce 4.5 lakh litres per day and at Karimnagar, the capacity is 5.6 lakh litres per day

HiIndia Newsdesk Hyderabad: The Health Minister, Eatala Rajender on Tuesday asked the private hospitals to follow the price capping guidelines that were fixed during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. “To reduce the burden on private hospitals, we did not put price cap on medicines and many other healthcare services and had left it to them. However, for certain services the private hospitals must stick to the price that was set by the State government,” Rajender, while interacting with press persons on Tuesday said.

Australian cricketers in IPL will have to make own arrangements for return: PM Morrison Australia on Tuesday suspended all direct passenger flights from India with immediate effect until May 15 due to the “very significant” spike in COVID-19 cases. HiIndia Newsdesk Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Tuesday said cricketers competing in the IPL will have to make their “own arrangements” to return home after his country banned all flights from India in the wake of a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic there. Australia on Tuesday suspended all direct passenger flights from India with immediate effect until May 15 due to the “very significant” spike in COVID-19 cases. “They have travelled there privately. This wasn’t part of an Australian tour. They’re under their own resources and they’ll be using those resources too, I’m sure, to see them return to Australia in accordance with their own arrangements,” Morrison was quoted as saying.Cricket Australia, on its part, has adopted a wait and watch approach for now.
More frequent testing, no We’ll ensure you reach outside food allowed as biohome seamlessly: BCCI assures foreign players at IPL bubble gets stricter
HiIndia Newsdesk The BCCI on Tuesday said it would do everything to ensure that foreign players competing in the IPL reach their respective countries seamlessly once the tournament ends, a day after three Australians quit the event amid an upsurge of COVID-19 cases in India. Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals) and the duo of Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa (both Royal Challengers Bangalore) withdrew as apprehension set in after a couple of weeks went by smoothly for the league held in front of empty stands across six venues. “We understand that many of you are apprehensive about how you will get back home once the tournament concludes… We want to apprise you that you have nothing to worry about,” BCCI COO Hemang Amin said in a letter addressed to the players.
HiIndia Newsdesk In light of the severe Covid situation in the country, the Indian Premier League has enforced stricter restrictions in the bio-bubble in place. Those inside will now be tested for the virus every two days, instead of once every five days as was the case till now. Though they have virtually no contact with the outside world, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any chances at this moment. In another decision aimed at preventing infection, the IPL has barred the players and others inside the biobubble from ordering food from outside the hotel where they are staying. There had been several instances when food had been ordered from joints and outlets outside the bubble. The BCCI had allowed such deliveries so that people don’t get bored eating the same hotel food for long.
‘Shooter Dadi’ Chandro Knee surgery performed, T Tomar contracts coronavirus, Natarajan thanks BCCI and admitted to hospital medical team HiIndia Newsdesk
Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, nicknamed ‘Shooter Dadi’, has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to a hospital due to difficulty in breathing. The Twitter page of the 89-year-old legendary shooter, hailing from the Baghpat village in Uttar Pradesh, posted the development. “Dadi Chandro Tomar has tested positive for coronavirus and has been admitted to a hospital due to breathing problem. God protect all – Family,” a tweet on her page read. Chandro was already 60-plus when she picked up the gun for the first time but went on to win many national competitions, even inspiring a Bollywood movie on her.
HiIndia Newsdesk India’s yorker sensation T Natarajan on Tuesday underwent a surgery to treat a knee injury that had ruled him out of IPL-14. The Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer was ruled out of the League last week due to the injury that he originally picked up during the tour of Australia earlier this year. He thanked the BCCI and medical team for looking after him. “Today, I underwent knee surgery – and am grateful for the expertise, attention and kindness of the medical team, surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff. I’m grateful to @bcci and to all that have wished well for me,” Natarajan tweeted.

Brett Lee donates bitcoin to Crypto Relief for India’s fight against COVID-19
Inspired by his countryman Pat Cummins’ gesture, former Australian pacer Brett Lee on Tuesday decided to donate one bitcoin (approximately Rs 40 lakh) to help India in its fight against the raging COVID-19 pandemic. Cummins on Monday won hearts when he announced a USD 50,000 donation towards the PM CARES Fund for oxygen supplies in India’s hospitals ravaged by a deadly second wave of the pandemic. “It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic. I feel privileged to be in a position of making a difference and with that in mind, I’d like to donate 1 BTC (Bitcoin) to Crypto Relief to help with the purchase of oxygen supplies for the hospitals across India,” Lee said in a statement which he posted on Twitter.
IPL has safest bio-bubble but COVID-19 situation outside is grim: Ricky Ponting
The IPL has created the “safest” bio-hub for its participants but Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting says he is also well aware of the “grim” COVID-19 situation outside the bubble in India and often discusses it with his players. The Australian great, while admitting that IPL can be a welcome distraction in these tough times, said that COVID-19 has dominated the conversations within his team. “This IPL, probably more than any other, has become more about what’s happening on the outside rather than what’s happening here. We are probably the safest people in the country probably because of the bubbles we are in,” Ponting told the DC ‘YouTube’ channel. “Continually, I am asking the boys at the breakfast as to what’s happening on the outside and if their families are safe, happy? That’s really an important thing. “I think IPL in a situation that the country is in, cricket can bring a lot of joy to people,” he added. “Here in DC, we are talking about being one big family and it’s important that we are thinking about extended family not just us here because it’s quite grim.

5 Things You Should Do First Thing In The Morning
To Be Happier All Day
1. Pick a wellness habit, then link it to an a.m. ritual you already have. This first tip is pretty broad, and that’s on purpose. Because the truth is there are many evidence-backed strategies people can use to try to boost happiness. An essential daily guide to achieving the good life So you might take some time to cultivate awareness through meditation. (One simple strategy: Close your eyes and focus on the act of taking 10 breaths.) Or you might be intrigued by the research that shows incorporating exercise into your daily routine can help boost happiness. Maybe you’d like to spend a few seconds every morning simply focusing on whatever nature you see outside your window, whether it’s the grass in your yard or the sky over the city. There really are so many different wellness habits that can help you, according to psychiatrist Murray Zucker, chief medical officer of the health care platform Happify. The key is simply to start with one — whatever it is— then attach it to a routine that you already have. You’re linking habit to ritual, he explained. So maybe every morning you get up, go to the bathroom, then make your bed. Link a moment in that routine (say, the bed making) to the habit you want to cultivate (maybe it’s reading 10 pages in a book). By tacking it on to something you already do, you’re much more likely to actually stick with it. And consistency really is the key to boosting happiness over time, Zucker said. “Start slow and build gradually,” he added. He encourages people to really just start with one new habit you want to link to your existing routine, then go from there.
2. Get your phone out of your room “Do not have your screen in your room,” said Allison Task, a career and life coach who said that she insists on this as a non-negotiable with her clients. That’s because when you reach for your phone (or tablet, or computer, or click on the TV) first thing in the morning, you’re really inviting the outside world to dictate your mood first thing, she said. And there really is a lot of evidence supporting the idea that screens hamper happiness. Studies have linked frequent social media use to decreased mood over time; other research has shown that a high volume of emails is connected with overall feelings of unhappiness. Furthermore, screens can get in the way of sleep, which is deeply connected to people’s overall sense of well-being. “Sleep is just a game changer,” Task said.
25
Many religions do a morning prayer,” said Task, who added that spending a moment doing something similar — whether you’re religious or not — can be a doable morning habit to cultivate. “Take that pause to appreciate that you’re alive, whatever that means to you,” she urged. Say to yourself: “I’m so glad I’m alive, and I get to play with my 2-year-old daughter,” Task offered by way of example. Or that you get to go to work. Or you get to walk your dog. Or even that you get to hit the snooze button again — yes, even if experts generally say it’s not a great idea.
4. ... and somebody else. “Make a social contact with somebody you have positive regard for,” Zucker said. This could really be anyone — a spouse or child, a friend, an extended family member. What that “social contact” looks like really depends on your personality and your schedule. “For someone who is busy, it may be a phone call or a text. If you have more time, meeting someone for a cup of coffee to start your day is really a boost,” Zucker said. But research suggests that even if you don’t actually meet up with someone or send them an email or text, it can be enough to simply send good thoughts their way. “You can start with a simple appreciation practice,” Cortland Dahl, a research scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds, previously told HuffPost. Just bring a friend or loved one into your mind, then consciously focusing on the things you really cherish about them.
5. Incorporate gratitude.
If you roll out of bed feeling tired or stressed, these a.m. habits can help you turn your mood around. Mornings can be rough for many people who tend to feel sleepy pretty regularly, which in turn makes them report feeling irritable a lot of the time. And yes, it’s hard to feel cheery when you’re overtired and stressed — much of which, alas, is outside of people’s control But happiness experts say there are simple habits people can practice in the morning that will that have a profound influence on how they feel throughout the day. “If you use your own name in your self-talk, you’re more likely to follow cognitive advice,” Zucker explained. If, for example, you have a big presentation at work and you notice that you’re spending the morning psyching yourself out, telling yourself that you’re 3. Talk to yourself... going to flop, you really can make Zucker noted that people tend to spend yourself pretty nervous, Zucker said. a lot of time talking to themselves in “But if I say: ‘Murray. You’ve done this their own heads, particularly in the before. You like doing this,’” you really morning when feeling frazzled or can take some control over your own stressed about what’s to come. He is a thoughts, which can set you up for big fan of noticing self-talk and self- greater happiness throughout the day. correcting using this simple technique: “Just using your own name can be very say your name. helpful,” Zucker said.
You might not be able to control what time your toddler shuffles into your room in the morning or what time your alarm starts to blare, but you can at least try to protect your sleeping hours by keeping screens out of your room.
While it’s true that there is a huge range of habits that can help boost happiness in the morning, researchers and clinicians tend to return to one again and again because it’s so powerful: gratitude In research trials, people who journaled about the things they’re thankful for during the week scored much higher on measures of happiness than people who instead noted things they’d been irritated by. And a daily gratitude practice may even contribute to improved physical health — which, in turn, contributes to overall feelings of happiness. There are many different ways to work gratitude into your morning routines, but it can (and should!) be simple. “Many religions do a morning prayer,” said Task, who added that spending a moment doing something similar — whether you’re religious or not — can be a doable morning habit to cultivate. “Take that pause to appreciate that you’re alive, whatever that means to you,” she urged. Say to yourself: “I’m so glad I’m alive, and I get to play with my 2-yearold daughter,” Task offered by way of example. Or that you get to go to work. Or you get to walk your dog. Or even that you get to hit the snooze button again — yes, even if experts generally say it’s not a great idea. Just find some way to express some gratitude in the morning, because it truly can be enough to put you in a better frame of mind all day.

Best and Worst-dressed celebs at Oscars 2021
Zendaya :
Manish Malhotra has tested negative twice, days after sharing he had contracted Covid-19 virus and was on home quarantine. The designer took to Instagram to share the news, attributing his recovery to being vaccinated. “Tested COVID NEGATIVE twice… Gratitude to all your wishes and prayers . Being vaccinated has helped me get well faster. Vaccination is a must everyone Stay Safe,” he wrote. On April 16, the 54-year-old had taken to Instagram to announce: “I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have immediately isolated myself and will be under home quarantine. I am following all safety protocols under the advice of my doctors. Please stay safe and take care.” “More innovation and re-invention. It has helped us tap into our true potential and the survivors of this have really proved their mettle.
WORST DRESSED
Reese Witherspoon
Zendaya gave us all her gorgeous Cher moment, and we are all living for it. She tops the best-dressed list in her Valentino haute couture dress and Bvlgari jewellery. In the fluorescent yellow chiffon dress, Zendaya looked like a literal ray of sunshine.
‘Being vaccinated has helped me get well faster’: Manish Malhotra

Reese walked the red carpet in a belted gown by Dior, paired with jewels by Bvlgari. Her simple look was too simple for the Academy Awards red carpet and, therefore, did not make it to the bestdressed list.
Regina King :
Glenn Close
Regina King brought all the drama and glamour on to the 93rd Academy Awards red carpet with her custom Louis Vuitton dress featuring butterflywing sleeves. She looked like a literal butterfly in the icy-blue gown adorned with 62,000 sequins and more than 4,000 crystals.
Glenn Close had a not-so-flattering moment in a jewel-tone blue embellished jacket from Armani Prive, which she paired with dark pants and gloves for her red-carpet appearance.
Adding hair removal creams to your vanity is a good idea
One of the reasons why hair removal creams aren’t as popular as waxing or threading, is that there are some myths that surround it If you are looking for a quick fix, adding hair removal creams to your vanity is not such a bad idea. Regardless, removing or not removing hair is your choice and you can always flaunt that dress with hair, too. One of the reasons why hair removal creams aren’t as popular as waxing or threading is because of the myths that surround the same. For the longest time, we have been told that hair
removal creams are a big no-no simply because they have a lot of harmful chemicals and darken the skin post multiple uses. As opposed to waxing, shaving etc., that have seemingly fewer disadvantages than depilatory creams, hair removal creams are easy to use, painless, economical and effective on both large body parts as well as for smaller, harder-to-reach body parts.
