Biden administration looks to set up ‘red phone’ to China for emergency communications HiIndia Newsdesk Wa s h i n g t o n ( C N N ) T h e B i d e n administration is examining the possibility of setting up an emergency hotline with the Chinese government similar to the so-called “red phone” established between the US and the Soviet Union during the Cold War, which allowed for direct communication with the Kremlin as a way to avert nuclear war. While the concept is still in its infancy and has yet to be formally raised with the Chinese, the Biden administration wants to develop a rapid communication tool that could be folded into a broader effort to reduce the risk of conflict between the US and China, according to a US official and another source familiar with early conversations about the device. A hotline to Beijing would let President
The Biden administration wants to develop a rapid communication tool that could be folded into a broader effort to reduce the risk of conflict between the US and China Joe Biden, or top officials on his national security team, immediately send encrypted phone calls or messages to
President Xi Jinping or those around him, according to the two sources. For example, urgent information could be shared about sudden military movements or warning messages sent about cyber hacks. The idea of setting up a hotline with Beijing dates back to at least the Obama administration, though the concept wasn’t codified into a classified national security memo until the final year of the Trump administration, according to a source familiar with the memo. Biden administration officials have continued to pursue the idea, sources said, but there remain numerous details to work out, including whether the Chinese would even agree to use the device. There have long been issues with securing rapid responses from Beijing when it comes to urgent matters, current and former US officials told.
FBI failed to investigate US drug overdose deaths USA Gymnastics abuser, hit record number amid Covid pandemic watchdog finds HiIndia Newsdesk
The FBI disregarded allegations about a prolific USA Gymnastics child abuser and later made serious errors in the investigation, a watchdog has found. The long-awaited report gave a scathing assessment of the FBI’s investigation into former team doctor Larry Nassar.Nassar is serving an effective life sentence for molesting young gymnasts.Numerous missteps and cover-ups by FBI agents allowed his abuse to continue for months after the case was first opened, the report found. In a statement on Wednesday, the FBI acknowledged the findings, calling the handling of the Nassar file “inexcusable and a discredit to this organisation”. “We will take all necessary steps to ensure that the failures of the employees outlined in the report do not happen again,” the agency said.

A record number of Ame r i c ans d i e d from drug overdoses last year in the midst of t he coronav ir us pandemic, according to official data.In total, an estimated 93,331 Americans died of overdoses in 2020 - a nearly 30% increase from the previous year. Experts say the spike indicates how deadly some drugs have become, and the disruptive impact the pandemic has had on society. The surge was partly driven by the increase in fentanyl. The powerful synthetic opioid is said to be about 50 times stronger than heroin.Experts say it has “contaminated” other drugs, as dealers add pharmaceutical fentanyl to street drugs to make them stronger. Isolation and feelings of loneliness due to the coronavirus pandemic have also been blamed for an increase in drug deaths. The family struggled to find him a rehab clinic, with many beds occupied by coronavirus patients.
Britney Spears can hire own lawyer in conservatorship case, judge rules
HiIndia Newsdesk A Los Angeles judge has said US pop star Britney Spears can choose her own lawyer in the fight to end her controversial conservatorship. The ruling came on Wednesday as Spears addressed a court for the second time in less than a month. Spears demanded once again that her father, Jamie Spears, be removed from the legal agreement that has controlled her affairs for years. In court last month, she made a dramatic plea to end the agreement. On Wednesday she repeated that appeal in an emotional statement in which she called for her father to be charged with “conservatorship abuse”. “I’m here to press charges. I’m angry and I will go there,” Spears said, speaking to
image captionThe singer has expressed a preference to select her own legal team
the court over a lawyer’s phone. “You’re allowing my dad to ruin my life. I have to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse,” she said. The singer’s supporters rallied outside
the court, and also gathered on the other side of the country in central Washington DC as the hearing was being held. Spears, 39, has been under the conservatorship since 2008, when concerns over her mental health prompted her father to petition the court for legal authority over his daughter’s life. Last month a judge denied the pop star’s request to remove her father from his role overseeing her conservatorship. Judge Brenda Penny said she could not make a ruling until the singer files a formal petition to terminate the arrangement. Wednesday’s court ruling paves the way for Spears’ lawyer of choice, former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, to take charge of the complex legal battle.

US Prez Biden Cancels Trump Proposal to Time-limit Student Visas
HiIndia Newsdesk President Joe Biden’s administration has announced it is cancelling a proposal by his predecessor Donald Trump to limit student visas to a four-year term for scholars from India and most other countries. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published the decision on Tuesday and said that it would also drop the proposed limits on visa for journalists. The DHS said that it had received about 32,000 public comments, of which 99 per cent were critical of the proposal made by the Trump administration
last September and, therefore, it was withdrawing the proposed changes. It said that it “is concerned that the changes proposed unnecessarily impede access to immigration benefits.” By keeping the current visa regulations, students on F and J visas would be able to keep their visas in the US as long as they are continuing their studies and journalists on I visas while keeping their jobs. If the changes had gone through, they would have had to apply to the Citizenship and Immigration Service for extensions or leave the country and apply to the Customs and Border Protection agency for readmission. The Trump administration proposal would have further reduced the limits on student visas to two years for certain countries a large number of whose citizens were overstaying their visas. The DHS reported that those opposing the time limit said “would significantly burden the foreign students, exchange scholars, (and) foreign media representatives” and “impose exorbitant costs.”

HiIndia Newsdesk Washington,: India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu travelled to the city of Atlanta this past week during which he had multiple engagements with think tanks, academicians, corporate world, lawmakers and eminent members of the Indian American community to advance bilateral relationship between the two largest democracies of the world. Sandhu, in his address to the Atlanta Council on International Relations, touched upon key aspects of the India-US bilateral relations, including bipartisan support, increased trust, people as the focus, role of industry and strategic community. I’m obviously not from India, I’m American. But having Indian relatives and parents, it makes me appreciate the culture and everything that goes with it,” he said. Incidentally, four Indian players have won Junior Grand Slam titles: Yuki Bhambri (2009 Australian Open), Leander Paes (Wimbledon 1990 and US Open 1991), Ramesh Krishnan (French Open and Wimbledon 1979) and Ramanathan Krishnan (Wimbledon 1954). For Banerjee, a New Jersey resident, this was his second Junior Grand Slam appearance — the first at this year’s French Open ended in an openinground loss, lowering expectations in London. “I was contemplating if I could compete at the Grand Slam level because this is where the best players in the world are. I just wanted to get my foot in the door and win one round. Then I won another and I started building confidence. I had more belief in my game. And then I found myself in the final and I played my best tennis today,” Banerjee said.

China’s Sichuan Indonesia’s daily cases surpass India, reports human case of marking new epicenter H5N6 bird flu
HiIndia Newsdesk Indonesia surpassed India’s daily Covid-19 case numbers, marking a new Asian virus epicenter as the spread of the highly-contagious delta variant drives up infections in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. The country has seen its daily case count cross 40,000 for three straight days — including a record high of 54,517 on Wednesday — up from less than 10,000 a month ago. Officials are concerned that the more transmissible new variant is now spreading outside of the country’s main island, Java, and could exhaust hospital workers and supplies of oxygen and medication. Indonesia’s current numbers are still far from India’s peak of 400,000 daily cases in May, and its total outbreak of 2.7 million is barely a tenth of the Asian giant’s 30.9 million.
Experts believe that the infection was an occasional case and “the risk of an invisible epidemic is extremely low”, the media said. Experts believe that the infection was an occasional case and “the risk of an invisible epidemic is extremely low”, the media said.

Dire Nothing vulgar about Priyadarshan comedies a ba - Paresh Rawal Pick any Hindi film directed by Priyadarshan, and chances are Paresh Rawal plays a pivotal role in it. The duo has collaborated on over 10 films together, including Hera Pheri (2000) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). So, when the director developed 'Hungama 2', the second instalment in the franchise, Rawal was an obvious choice. The senior actor says, “Priyadarshan’s comedies have innocence to them; there is nothing vulgar about them. Also, he has a keen sense of economics and will never overshoot [the budget]. He knows how much leeway to give to his actors. As a result of these factors, the experience of working with him becomes unmatchable.” “If you have a wife looking like Shilpa Shetty, any husband would be insecure. What I like the most about her is that she is so passionate about her work.” The senior actor adds that the film — also featuring Meezaan and Pranitha Subhash — is the perfect example of a well-written laugh riot, which does justice to every character. “One should not sacrifice a character for the sake of laughter.

Indian Idol 12: Ashish Kulkarni eliminated, fans call it biased
Ashish and Shanmukhpriya were in the danger zone after their performances.
After Sawai Bhatt, Ashish Kulkarni’s journey came to an end on Indian Idol 12. In the Sunday episode of the popular music reality show, Ashish was eliminated while Shanmukhapriya was allowed to remain on the show. As Ashish hugged and left the sets of Indian Idol, many of his co-contestants were in tears, including Shanmukhpriya. However, not all fans were on board with Ashish’s eviction, with a few expressing their disappointment on social media, calling it ‘unfair’ and ‘biased’. The episode, which saw the presence of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle, marked the beginning of the race to the finale. While the contestants gave energetic and vibrant performances, it was Ashish and Shanmukhapriya who were left in the danger zone. Ashish had sung Dil Dena Khel Hai Dildaar Ka, while Shanmukhapriya sang Duniya Mein Logon Ko.
‘I think judges don’t want to hurt the contestants by and large’ - Javed Ali Ajay Devgn shows off grey hair and beard
Ajay Devgn seems to be embracing his greys as his new look with a salt-andpepper beard went viral on social media. Reportedly, Ajay will be seen in this new avatar in his upcoming film Thank God. The actor, who is currently preparing for the shoot of Indra Kumar’s film, has been spotted with a grey beard, a look he has not tried before. Ajay’s new look first appeared on the actor’s trainer, Gautam’s Instagram page. He had shared photos of his birthday celebration which also featured Ajay Devgn. Fans have been calling his new look ;graceful’ and ‘dashing’ on social media.
This season of the singing reality show, Indian Idol has been marred by controversies. Ever since Amit Kumar’s comment on makers asking him to praise the contestants, several others have talked about the show giving them similar instructions for TRPs. But singer-composer Javed Ali holds a different opinion. He recently shared that he has never been asked by any of the reality show makers to praise the contestants and he has always expressed his honest opinions. When asked if contestants’ sob stories are a way of attracting votes, Ali told, “Let me tell you that people want entertainment and masala; they are intrigued to know about their lifestyle. Like recently, I myself participated in a show and spoke about the hurdles in my early days.” He added, “But thinking of it on the other side, I want to tell you that a contestant I was judging not long ago went on to, unfortunately, win a music reality show simply because he could appeal with his talking. Still, I would say at the end of the day, it’s an individual’s personal opinion whom to vote for. I don’t think anybody is compelled to vote for any particular contestant.”

Vikrant Massey: Sequel looks like a genuine possibility With 'Haseen Dillruba', two things were firmly established — that there are enough takers for a twisted romantic thriller. Secondly, there is little that Vikrant Massey, who perhaps got the most delicious part in the love triangle, can't pull off with conviction. For the actor, playing Rishu in the Taapsee Pannu and Harshvardhan Rane-starrer was a way of shattering his good-boy perception. A week into the film dropping online, we start our chat with the question everyone is asking on Twitter: Is there a sequel on the cards? “It looks like a genuine possibility. People want it, and if there is public demand, we will think about it. The film ends at a delicious point, and Kanika [Dhillon] is a masterful writer. Sequels depend on producers; if they are game, we will be too. When this film came to me, I was looking to play a grey part. Basis my off-screen personality, the public perception is, ‘How sweet is this boy!'

Scarlett Johansson: Didn’t want Black Widow to be an espionage film
Scarlett Johansson has had quite a bit of time to think about a Black Widow movie. After all, she’s played the character in seven movies spanning 10 years. Yet unlike many of her fellow Avengers who got grand introductions in movies and sequels bearing their names on the marquee, she built the enigmatic Natasha Romanoff as a sideline scene-stealer beginning with her introduction in 2010’s Iron Man 2 through her exit in Avengers: Endgame. By the time her name was called for a coveted standalone, she knew that, above all, she wanted Black Widow’s film to be unexpected. And as the first lead actor to serve as a producer on a Marvel film, she actually had a say.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas was one of the spectators at the ongoing Wimbledon. She, along with socialite Natasha Poonawalla, watched the Women’s Singles finals between Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova. The actor shared snippets of it on her Instagram story and we are very much taken by her outfit.
We all have days when we struggle to follow even our basic routine which includes having a good workout. This could be due to a variety of reasons. But instead of side-stepping these feelings, it is important to acknowledge them, said fitness enthusiast Ankita Konwar. The 29-year-old said that the past week was quite “noisy” for her which meant that she had to focus even more on her mind. “The best cure for the body is a quiet mind. The past week was quite noisy for me and I had to shift my focus even more towards my mind. That meant sometimes just sitting quietly in a corner with my thoughts, taking the time to understand them without being judgmental. That also meant lesser time for physical workouts. But the best part about the body is that it follows the mind,” she penned a note on Instagram.

The biggest event after Covid
Lollapalooza 2021 returns to Chicago The biggest music festival in the city will kick off the long awaited celebrations that were marred due to Covid-19
I
t looks like Chicago is in a serious mood to celebrate and make up for the lost time due to the pandemic. Later this month, Lollapalooza, the city’s largest music festival returns with a renewed zing. To be held from July 29 – August 1 at Grant Park the festival will see 8 stages and more than 170 bands from all over the world. What is significant about this years’ Lollapalooza is that it returns in its original avatar after a year. In 2020, the event was cancelled due to Covid-19. However to keep the spirit of festival going the city of Chicago had offered a live streamed event held on the initially scheduled dates. The live streamed event featured acts from artists such as Outkast, Lupe Fiasco and Brockhampton but the music lovers missed the original experience that has become the city’s trademark event for many years now. The annual four-day music festival got a go-ahead this May from the authorities for the year 2021 and it seems that the enthusiasm could not be contained. It is evident that the public is more than willing to leave the not-so-fond memories of social distancing and restrictions behind as the tickets for the big events are almost sold out. The tickets according to the organizers are going out fast. The tickets range from $150 upwards for general admission and go up to $8000 for platinum admission for certain performances.
What’s Special for 2021?
As is expected that this years’ Lollapalooza will hold a special significance as many aficionados have been awaiting this event. For many others, the event marks the symbolic return of life as we knew it before the
Zofeen Maqsood Covid-19 pandemic turned things upside down. This years’ festival is also seen as a great way to promote vaccination amongst the public. Chicago city officials are using the festival to encourage vaccination. On Saturday, the city gave out 1200 single day tickets at a
Lollapalooza will be held from July 29 – August 1 at Grant Park. It will be the first largest public gathering after Covid-19 vaccination drive as reported by Chicago’s top doctor Allison Arwady. The promotion was part of an initiative titled Protect Chicago Music Series. Late last month, four vaccination sites in the city were also turned into a Lollapalooza experience where a DJ performed and Lollapalooza- branded giveaways were distributed.
The Performances The 2021 line up is one of the most sought after
and the festival begins with Miley Cyrus, Illenium, Kaytranda, Playboi Carti amongst other line up. Day 2 will see Marshmello, Roddy Ricch, Tyler – the Creator, Jack Harlow and Polo G along with others. Day 3 highlights include Post Malone, Journey, Megan Thee Stallion, Limp Bizkit and Slander with many others. The concluding day would see Foo Fighters, DeBaby,
Brockhampton, Modest House, Young Thug along with many others. The festival will also offer some of the most sumptuous food and drinks from Windy City’s famed restaurants. Each year in what has become a Chicago tradition the city’s legendary park comes alive with a carnival like atmosphere, best music against the backdrop of the beautiful Chicago skyline and stunning shores of Lake Michigan. For those who are ready to spend more money for a greater experience there are VIP and platinum tickets that provide access to exclusive lounges, great views and luxury experiences. The city is doing everything to ensure that this years’ event is a safe and memorable experience for everyone. Lollapalooza has also announced a lineup of after shows like every year for those who cannot cough up big ticket prices to see some of the performances at other smaller venues.
History of Lollapalooza Lollapalooza started as a touring event back in 1991
by Perry Farrell, singer of Jane’s Addiction. An annual sell out event it holds up to 400,000 people in Chicago’s Grant Park. One of the largest and most long-standing music events in the country, it attracts attendees from across the country. From its first edition itself Lollapalooza was a roaring success and has been a revered name in music calendars. Lollapalooza was revived in 2003 and it continued as a touring event. However it was in 2010 that it was decided to make it a Chicago event, even though it inspired versions elsewhere internationally too.

The bill is complemented by a PBS series called “Asian Americans,” a five-episode documentary series and corresponding K-12 school curriculum released in Spring 2020. Pritzker praised the TEAACH Act as a way to “address harmful stereotypes.” The bill struck a chord with many throughout the legislative process, including youth organizers—current Illinois public school students—who played a key role in the passage of the legislation, noted the release. The bill will go into effect during the 2022-2023 school year. “Students from all backgrounds need to learn about the history of people from different cultures and ethnicities to understand the systemic inequities that exist today,” Villivalam had said in an earlier statement.

Duo Charged With Human Trafficking, Harboring Foreign Workers in NJ Chicken Slaughterhouse Business HiIndia Newsdesk
BRONX, NY — Two New Jersey businessmen were arrested Wednesday after an indictment was filed in federal court charging them with forcing employees to work at a Halal chicken slaughterhouse in Middlesex County. The charges resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the U.S. Department of Labor, the IRS and FBI. The employees were not paid more if they worked more hours, nor were they given overtime pay. The employees lived in a boarding house in front of the business, for which Wahid allegedly deducted $40 a week from the employees’ paychecks. The boarding house did not have heat or hot water and was infested with insects. The defendants also employed two Muslim individuals to slaughter the chickens and forced them to continue working at the slaughterhouse.

O
ne of the most important ways to preserve and enrich your health is physical training, fitness, and movement—and it only becomes more important the older you get. It also gets more important to do it right. If you’re 50 or older and just getting started in fitness, doing it wrong might make your health worse. You might get injured, and injuries incurred as we age become more catastrophic. You probably won’t bounce back from injuries like you did when you were 20 years old; you might never make it back. So how should you get into fitness at age 50 and beyond? What should you avoid? What should you do? Let’s dig right in.
Have a compelling reason to get moving
Let’s face facts: It’s been this long and you haven’t done anything. You can’t just “decide” to start training and have it work out, or else you would have done it years before. No, you need a compelling reason to get moving. You need a reason that you can’t say no to, that you can’t rationalize your way out from under. A reason that sticks in your gut and won’t let go. Physical strength and muscle mass is one of the best predictors of both mortality and morbidity. The stronger you are, the longer you’ll live and the better you’ll be at moving, playing, and taking care of yourself. Cardiovascular fitness protects you not just against losing steam on an uphill run. It protects you against any and all insults to your heart. The more stamina you have, the longer and better you’ll live.1 Physical fitness translates to sexual fitness. Everything works better the more fit you are—for both men and women. If you aren’t fit—and don’t mean “ripped” or “can lift 300 pounds” or “has a six pack”—you’ll miss out on the rest of your life. You’ll never reach the heights your genes want you to reach. You’ll never be able to appreciate the simple moments, like playing with a grandkid or hiking in the mountains or taking care of your own affairs in the later years.

Getting Into
24
at
Age 50 and Beyond
Get help from a professional.
It gets easier and easier to mess up and get injured the longer you wait to start fitness. It’s like being on extended bed rest: you don’t just pick up where you left off. You have to ease into it. This is where a professional can really help. Dive right in but then go slow. You need to start today. Right away. Get moving. Start working out. Get a plan together. But you don’t need to kill yourself or break something. Don’t throw yourself into heavy weight lifting if you’ve never done it before. Don’t start training by running a marathon. Be consistent, don’t let up, but be smart about it.
Download Primal Blueprint Fitness.
This is a great starter ebook to get going with a basic workout plan. It doesn’t require any weights (but can be easily modified or graduated into weights). It’s all
This is life, isn’t it? Life is all about balancing the ego. A good heuristic for making sure you’re on the right path is to try to beat your own performance but not the other guy’s or gal’s. Don’t worry about what someone else is doing or accomplishing. Worry about whether you’re getting better. dancing. Dancing isn’t just fun. It can be a potent training tool, too. And everything seems to work. Whether it’s Turkish folk, traditional Thai dance, or Scottish country dance, dancing can really increase functional capacity and even strength in older adults. If you haven’t been able to muster the will to train already, figuring out an active way to play could be your way around the block. Find your game. Find your way to play. Play keeps your mind and body young.
Walk as much as possible.
Walking is the most essential human movement around. And very few of us do enough of it. So don’t think you have to walk a set number of miles each day. Just walk, walk, and walk some more whenever you get the chance. If you did nothing else but walk for miles each day, you’d be pretty darn healthy. Throw in a couple days of strength training and you’re better than 95% of your age group. The beauty of walking doesn’t only lie in its direct physical effect on your fitness. It also helps pump the lymphatic system, improves your cognitive function, and keeps your tissues “lubed up” and ready for more intense activity.
Develop a vision.
A reason isn’t enough, usually. It’s a good start, but you need to bring that reason to life with a powerful, visually stimulating vision of what your new self will look like. What will you be doing? How will you look in the mirror? What will people say and think when they see you? Maybe you’re training under the midday sun in a pair of shorts, doing sets of pullups, kettlebell swings, and dips. Your sweat is glistening. Someone your age is going by in a wheelchair or walker, and here you are, glowing and resplendent. Maybe you’re sprinting after the mail carrier to flag him down after dropping off the wrong package. You dodge a dawdling neighbor, leap over a wiener dog, vault over a fence and sprint down the road to catch up to the mail truck. Get as specific as you can. Truly make it real in your mind. And then use that vision as fuel to do the work that makes the vision reality.

Take or eat extra collagen and protein.
The big 5-0 rolls around and you start grappling with your own mortality. You wonder about your place in the world and how long you have left. Sure, 50 is just another number, but it’s a number that society has placed a large bolus of meaning. For better or worse, whether it’s real or not, turning 50 makes you re-evaluate everything. Especially your health. bodyweight. It is scaled for all levels of fitness. You don’t even have to be able to do a single full push-up to get started with it. And ultimately it is good enough for the average 50+ year old to use for perpetuity.
Play as much as possible.
Playing with your romantic partner, friends, co-workers, pets, and children is a sure (and fun) way to fuel your imagination, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and emotional well-being. Adult play is a time to forget about work and commitments, and to be social in an unstructured, creative way. Play could be simply goofing off with friends, sharing jokes with a coworker, throwing a frisbee on the beach, dressing up on Halloween with your kids, building a snowman in the yard, playing fetch with a dog, acting out charades at a party, or going for a bike ride with your spouse with no destination in mind. There doesn’t need to be any point to the activity beyond having fun and enjoying yourself. By giving yourself permission to play with the joyful abandon of childhood, you can reap oodles of health benefits throughout life.Another good one to consider is
The older you are, the worse you are at utilizing the protein you eat. You need more of it in your diet to do the same job it did when you were 15 years younger. In studies where they compare resistance training seniors who eat extra protein with resistance training seniors who don’t, only the seniors eating extra protein gain muscle mass.5 You also need more collagen. Well, we all do, but especially older folks. Taking 20 grams of collagen with 100 mg of vitamin C 30 minutes before a workout can improve the health of your connective tissue, actually making it stronger and more resistant to injury.6 Aim for a 2 grams of protein per kilogram of weight and about 20 grams of collagen each day.
Control your ego.
I won’t say “leave your ego at the door,” because a little ego can be a healthy, helpful companion. You want enough ego to spur you on to make yourself better, healthier, fitter, and faster. You don’t want so much ego that you try doing something in the gym you aren’t prepared for. You don’t want to kill yourself trying to get bigger, stronger, and faster. This is life, isn’t it? Life is all about balancing the ego. A good heuristic for making sure you’re on the right path is to try to beat your own performance but not the other guy’s or gal’s. Don’t worry about what someone else is doing or accomplishing. Worry about whether you’re getting better.
