US ready to assist Pakistan address its electricity woes
Continuing his blazing hot form, Shubman Gill brought up his 4th ODI century, in the 3rd match of the series against New Zealand on Tuesday. Having scored 208 and 40-not out in the first two matches of the series, Gill is already the top-scoring batter in the 3-match assignment by a distance. As Gill touched the 112-run mark in the match at Indore, he matched Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s record of scoring the ‘most number of runs in a 3-match ODI series’.
Until being equalled by the young India opener, Babar had solely held the record of scoring the most number of runs (360) in a 3-match ODI series. Gill needed 113 runs to surpass the Pakistan stalwart’s record but he was dismissed for 112.
Thousands of crores of rupees have been pumped in by the BJP and the RSS systematically to distort my image but the truth always comes out, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Tuesday on him being derisively referred to as ‘Pappu’ on social media.
The Congress will teach the BJP that truth works in this country and not money, power and arrogance, Gandhi said as his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ continues in its final leg. “Thousands of crores have been spent to distort my image. This was done systematically by the BJP and its leaders. Thousands of crores can’t hide the truth and you have witnessed it. The truth always comes out,” the 52-year-old said when asked if the Congress was spending crores of rupees to counter his ‘Pappu’ image. He alleged the RSS and the BJP leaders think that anything can be achieved with money and power.
The US is ready to assist Pakistan in resolving its electricity woes, a top official in the Biden administration has said, hours after the South Asian country faced a nationwide power breakdown due to a “frequency variation” in the national grid.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the system of frequency of the national grid went down at 7:34 am local time on Monday, resulting in the breakdown on Monday, leaving millions of people without electricity, the second such outage in nearly four months.
“Of course, (we) have seen what has transpired in Pakistan. Our thoughts are with all those who’ve been affected by the outages. The US, of course, as you mentioned, has assisted our Pakistani partners across any number of challenges,” State Department Spokesperson Ned Price told reporters at his daily news conference on Monday.
“We’re prepared to do so in this case, if there is something that we’re able to provide. But I’m not aware of any particular request yet,” he said. Pakistan is grappling with one of the country’s worst economic crises in recent years amid dwindling foreign exchange reserves.
