Ex-Fugees musician Prakazrel
“Pras” Michel has been found guilty of 10 counts, including corruption, stemming from allegations he used money to peddle influence in the US.
US prosecutors said Michel had received more than $100m (£80m) from Malaysian billionaire Jho Low that was used in two efforts to influence US politics.
The self-identifying “celebrity surrogate” was also convicted of lobbying on behalf of China’s government.
The rapper now faces years in prison.
Michel, 50, was convicted in a Washington DC court of campaign finance violations, acting as an unregistered foreign agent, witness tampering and lying to banks.
China police question staff at US firm Bain & Company
US consultancy giant Bain & Company has confirmed that Chinese police have visited its office in Shanghai and questioned some staff. “We are cooperating as appropriate with the Chinese authorities,” a spokesperson for the firm told the BBC.
It comes as relations between Washington and Beijing have deteriorated in recent months. Last month, another US firm Mintz was raided in Beijing and five local employees were detained.
“We can confirm that the Chinese authorities have questioned staff in our Shanghai office,” Bain said.
Disney has accused Florida Governor Ron DeSantis of organising a campaign of “government retaliation” in a lawsuit. The new legal action sharply escalates the battle between the entertainment giant and the Republican politician.
The two sides have been fighting since Disney criticised a state law banning discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in primary schools.
The lawsuit came after state officials voided a development deal involving the firm’s Florida theme park.
Disney said Mr DeSantis’ steps to assert

control over its operations threatened its business and violated its constitutional rights. It asked the court to undo the moves. “Disney regrets it has come to this,” the company’s parks division said in the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida. “But having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponise government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain state officials.”
US and South Korea agree key nuclear weapons deal
When China’s foreign minister visited the Philippines last weekend, he had a stern message for President Ferdinand E. Marcos Jr. of the Philippines: It was vital that Manila “properly handle issues” related to Taiwan and the South China Sea, and follow through on its earlier commitment not to choose sides, he said.
On Wednesday, Marcos turned up at the Philippines’ annual military drills with the United States dressed in an army fatigue jacket and closely inspecting an American rocket launcher. Later, he sat next to the American ambassador as they watched artillery units take out a target ship nearby. Philippines, the Filipino government is again pivoting toward its oldest ally, the US.

In return, South Korea has agreed to not

develop its own nuclear weapons. The Washington Declaration will strengthen the allies’ co-operation in deterring a North Korean attack, US President Joe Biden said. Concern has been rising on both sides about the nuclear threat posed by North Korea. Pyongyang is developing tactical nuclear weapons that can target South Korea, and refining its longrange weapons that can reach the US mainland. The US already has a treaty obligation to defend South Korea, and has previously pledged to use nuclear weapons if necessary. But some in South Korea have started to doubt that commitment and call for the country to pursue its own nuclear programme.
Johnson & Johnson’s newly formed consumer health unit Kenvue has been named in claims that the company’s talcum powder can cause cancer, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. The news comes as Johnson & Johnson (J&J) said it’s seeking up to a $42.95 billion valuation for Kenvue in its initial public offering.
US Blacklists Sri Lanka Governor Over War Killings
A new bipartisan proposal introduced in the US Senate seeks to set a national age limit for use of social media across the country. The federal bill proposes anyone under the age of 13 from using social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and others. The Protecting Kids on Social Media bill also proposes that tech companies need
to get parents’ consent before creating accounts for teenagers, as per a report in CNN. The bill seeks to address what experts say a mental health crisis fuelled by social media, the outlet further said. Under the provisions of the bill, children aged 13 and below would be barred from creating accounts or interact with other users, though they would still be able to view content without logging into an account, according to the draft text of the legislation.
The companies would also be banned from using teens’ personal information to target them with content or advertising. However, some relaxations have been offered, like limited targeted recommendations to teens by relying on other contextual cues.
Washington, United States: The United States said Wednesday it would refuse visas on human rights grounds to a Sri Lankan provincial governor who had been charged with killings during the island’s long civil war.
A Sri Lankan investigation accused former navy chief Wasantha
Karannagoda, among others, of abducting teenage children of wealthy families and killing them after extorting money. Authorities in 2021 dropped charges, prompting an outcry from human rights groups, and he was soon named governor of North Western Province by then president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who served as defense chief when Sri Lanka defeated the Tamil Tiger rebels in 2009.
“The United States reaffirms its commitment to upholding human rights, ending impunity for human rights violators, acknowledging the suffering of victims and survivors and promoting accountability for perpetrators in Sri Lanka,” Blinken said in a statement.

The Vatican announced on Wednesday that the pope would for the first time allow women to vote at a coming meeting of bishops, a fresh sign of Francis’ efforts to give women more say in the affairs of the Roman Catholic Church.
The pope also increased the number of lay people who will participate next October at the meeting, the Synod of Bishops, which periodically meets at the Vatican to discuss important issues such as how to deal with divorced couples. The coming synod is centred on fostering greater involvement of the faithful as the church moves forward.
In 2021, Francis amended the church’s laws so that women could be Bible readers at Mass, serve at the altar and distribute communion — practices already common in many countries. But women are still barred from becoming deacons.

Mystery over Sudan ex-dictator
SYDNEY: Australia proposed on Thursday overhauling its immigration system to speed up getting highly skilled workers into the country and smoothening the path to permanent residency. The federal Labor government said the current system used to select skilled migrants - the points test - will be modified to identify people with the correct skill sets the Australian economy needs going forward.“Our migration system ... is broken. It is failing our businesses, it is failing migrants
Australia has been competing with comparable countries, like Canada and Germany, to lure more skilled migrants, with the surge in demand exacerbated by an ageing population. The government said the visa process for high-skilled professionals will be made quicker and easier, while steps would be taken to retain international students. Temporary skilled visa holders, who had been denied even the opportunity to apply for permanent residency, will be able to do that by the end of this year, O’Neil said. But it will not add to Australia’s annual intake of permanent migrants, she said.
As Sudan descends into chaos in a battle between rival generals, one question was swirling around the country on Wednesday: Where is the former dictator Omar Hassan al-Bashir? AlBashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. In Sudan, he still faces charges related to the 1989 coup that propelled him to power, and he faces a death sentence or life in prison if convicted. The uncertainty over his whereabouts was another sign of Sudan’s descent into lawlessness and could deal a blow to the receding hopes of bringing democratic rule to the country.

India’s Antitrust Law Increases Penalty
PM Modi Addresses BJP Workers Virtually in Poll-Bound Karnataka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed through virtual mode tens of lakhs of BJP workers exhorting them to strengthen booth-level campaigning for the coming Karnataka Assembly elections, and made a strong pitch for ending “revdi culture” (culture of distributing freebies).
Modi also hit out at the Congress on the issue, stating what is the meaning of its guarantees when that party’s warranty itself has expired.
Changes to India’s antitrust law will allow the regulator to impose much larger penalties and require companies to pay part of the dues before an order can be appealed, a move some analysts say signals protectionism.
Parliament this month permitted the Competition Commission of India to levy penalties for anti-competitive behavior and abuse of dominance based on global turnover of the firm, where earlier the up to 10% penalty was on the turnover of the affected business in India. It also said any party challenging a CCI order must first pay 25% of the penalty as deposit.

Tamil Nadu Minister In A Spot After State BJP Chief’s Audio Clip Attack
HiIndia NewsdeskChennai: Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has released a second audio clip, where his party claims state finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan is heard denigrating the ruling DMK and accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin’s family of corruption. In the audio clip – which NDTV cannot independently verify -- the speaker is heard saying, “The CM’s son and son-in-law take away a bulk of the spoils”.
In what appears to be a reference to his quitting a party position after becoming minister, the speaker is also heard praising the BJP’s “one man one post” rule and slams DMK for “lack of system”. In his tweet, Mr Annamalai has thanked “PTR” for “drawing a proper distinction between DMK and BJP”.
A similar audio had surfaced recently, in which the speaker -- purportedly PTR -- is heard saying, “Udhayanidhi (Chief Minister M K Stalin’s son) and Sabareesan have accumulated 30,000 crore”.
Calling the clip “fabricated”, the minister had said that “no malicious attempts to divide us will succeed”. He had also said “more such audios and videos” could come. On April 14, Mr Annamalai released what he calls the “DMK files” in which he alleged that key DMK leaders have accumulated assets worth ₹ 1.34 lakh crore. The list included including Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other ministers including Durai Murugan, EV Velu, K Ponmudy, V Senthil Balaji, and former Union Minister S Jagathrakshakan.
Telangana HC completes hearing on CBI plea
In the audio clip tweeted by K Annamalai, the speaker, purportedly Tamil Nadu finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, is heard saying, “The CM’s son and son-in-law take away a bulk of the spoils”
He had also alleged that in 2011, during the DMK’s earlier tenure, Mr Stalin was paid a ₹ 200 crore bribe for favouring a private company get a contract to supply coaches for Chennai Metro Rail.
The rail company has denied this, saying “a fair process was followed”.
The ruling DMK has denied allegations and issued legal notices to Mr Annamalai, demanding an apology and huge cash damages of upto ₹ 500 crore.
Mr Annamalai has refused to apologise and denied he has violated any
defamation law. He has also demanded an independent forensic analysis of the audio. Mr Annamalai has hit back, challenging the minister to produce an incriminating audio clip with his voice. Since the minister “is resting on an argument that this audio is fabricated, we challenge him to produce an audio clip with similar content but instead in my voice,” Mr Annamalai said. The state BJP leadership has urged Governor RN Ravi to order a forensic audit of the audio clip. The BJP, which has marginal presence in Tamil Nadu, is also witnessing a strain in ties with ally the AIADMK. The south party has suffered three consecutive defeats in elections it contested in alliance with the BJP, after which some leaders had aired suspicion that the BJP could engineer a split within its ranks ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

EU Considers Retaliatory Tariffs over India’s Electronics Duties
New Delhi: The European Union has reportedly said that it will impose retaliatory tariffs on India if New Delhi doesn’t abide by a World Trade Organisation ruling and do away with the customs duties it imposes on electronic goods like smartphones. “In the event there is an appeal to the nonfunctioning WTO Appellate Body (i.e. an ‘appeal into the void’), the EU has in place legislation (the Enforcement Regulation) that allows it to enforce its rights by imposing customs duties or other restrictions in response to an appeal into the void, should the EU decide to do so,” an EU spokesperson told the Business Standard.
According to the newspaper, the EU has claimed that 600 million euros of its technology exports to India were adversely impacted annually due to India’s imposition of tariffs on ICT products.
Last week, on April 17, the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body had said that India’s tariffs on
information and communication technology (ICT) violated the country’s zero-tariff commitment under the Information Technology Agreement enforced by the multilateral trade body.
Indian officials, Business Standard reported, have said since that New Delhi plans to appeal this decision at the Appellate Body, and so it has no immediate repercussions. However, the Appellate Body has been non-functional for a while now as
the US has been blocking the appointment of judges. Perhaps that is why the EU spokesperson referred to it as “the void”.
The EU spokesperson also told the newspaper that India did have the right to appeal the Dispute Settlement Body’s decision. “India has consistently underlined and made clear its support for the multilateral trading system and the WTO. In this context, it has the right to appeal the panel report if it genuinely considers that there is a need to correct it. In the absence of a WTO Appellate Body, this would imply an appeal to the MPIA (multi-party interim appeal arbitration arrangement) or using alternative appeal arrangements. The EU has over the last months offered to engage in discussions with India on these two different appeal routes,” the spokesperson said. India had earlier rejected the EU’s suggestion that the patter be taken to the MPIA, as it prefers to fight for the restoration of the Appellate Body system.
Who Is BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, at the Heart of Serious Charges By Wrestlers?
New Delhi: “I have committed a murder in the past. Let people say what they want…I did commit a murder.” This is not the confession of a convicted criminal, but a bold declaration made by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP leader and six-time Lok Sabha MP who has never been tried for murder.
Though tales of the muscle power wielded by Singh, the MP from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, are well-known, especially in Gonda and its surrounding districts, it is likely that no one knew that Singh had committed a murder until an interview he gave to a web portal in 2022. His affidavit submitted for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections did mention four criminal cases, including one under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other serious crimes.
Singh has also been the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) since 2011, and there are allegations that he often resorts to the use of muscle power in running the federation. As a result of his tyrannical attitude, Olympic-level wrestlers were
forced to hold a protest against him, staging a dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar from January 18.
The protestors made serious allegations against Singh, including sexual harassment of women wrestlers, physical abuse, dictatorial functioning and financial irregularities in the management of WFI. The players called off the protest after a late-night meeting with sports minister Anurag Thakur on January 20, in which they were given an assurance that Singh would be relieved of his duties as WFI president and an inquiry committee would be set up. Now, saying that they have lost faith in the committee, the wrestlers are back on protest. They have filed a police complaint against Singh, which also includes allegations of sexual assault on a minor. However, the police are yet to register an FIR – and the protesting wrestlers have said they will not leave Jantar Mantar until an FIR is filed. They have even approached the
Supreme Court on the matter.
Meanwhile, regarding the allegations levelled against him, Singh claimed that he would hang himself if the charges were found to be true. He refused to resign from his post as president, calling the allegations politically motivated and terming it a Congresssponsored protest. He even warned that if he opened his mouth, it would bring a ‘tsunami’. He compared the wrestlers’ protest with the Shaheen Bagh protest and added that a few players whose careers are over are levelling allegations against him.
However, Singh, who calls the protesting sportspersons as pawns of the Congress, does not have a slate as clean as he pretends. While he himself proclaimed on camera that he has committed a murder, on another occasion he reportedly confessed that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had held him responsible for “another murder”.

Never thought I would survive this long in an industry that is driven by box office
Manoj Bajpayee turns a year older today. He is one of the most versatile actors in the country. Bajpayee debuted his feature film with a oneminute role in ‘Drohkaal’ (1994) and a minor role as a dacoit in Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen (1994). After a few unnoticed roles, he played the gangster Bhiku Mhatre in Ram Gopal Varma’s 1998 crime drama ‘Satya’, which proved to be a breakthrough. He received the National Award in Supporting Role for his performance in ‘Satya’. However, the minor roles he got in the following years did not help boost his career. It was his performance in films like ‘Rajneeti’ and ‘Gangs Of Wassyepur’ that gave him much-deserved recognition.
At a recent press conference, Manoj Bajpayee admitted that he did not expect to survive in the industry for so long. “I never thought I would survive this long in an industry that is driven

Now standing here, I am only thankful to God and all my family and the people out there who believed in me and all the directors who never lost hope in me and believed in my ability and kept on pushing me,” he told the reporters.
However, with the boost of OTT platforms, Manoj Bajpayee got roles that did justice to his talent. With shows like ‘The Family Man’, Bajpayee received critical and audience appreciation and love. “I never sought image, my approach was always towards character and that has slowly become possible, now more than ever as there are more mediums. I think this is a love story that is far more important to me than anything else. Me and my craft of acting, that is something that is going to go on forever. USCIS Provides Clearer Guidance On Citizenship And Naturalization Requirements For Adopted Children
HiIndia NewsdeskWASHINGTON, DC- Effective immediately, the USCIS Policy Manual is being updated to provide clarification on how U.S. citizenship and naturalization provisions apply to adopted children. This update consolidates and clarifies existing information in Volume 5 and supplements policy in Volume 12 of the Policy Manual on citizenship and naturalization.
The updated guidance provides detailed requirements for adopted children to meet the definition of a child for citizenship and naturalization purposes. It emphasizes the importance of having an adoption that is considered full, final, and complete for immigration purposes to be eligible for U.S. citizenship. It also provides information on how to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship for adopted children who reside in the United States
USCIS Extends Biometrics Pause for Form I-539 Applicants
WASHINGTON, DC- USCIS has extended the temporary suspension of the biometrics submission requirement for certain applicants filing Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status, requesting an extension of stay in or change of status to H-4, L-2, or E nonimmigrant status. The previously announced suspension, which was initially in place until May 17, 2023, has been extended through Sept. 30, 2023.
We will allow adjudications for those specific categories to proceed based on biographic information and related background checks, without capturing fingerprints and a photograph. However, we retain discretion, on a case-by-case basis, to require biometrics for any applicant, and applicants may be scheduled for an application support center appointment to submit biometrics.
As a reminder, if you are a Form I-539 applicant meeting the biometrics suspension criteria, you do not need to submit the $85 biometric services fee for Form I-539 during the suspension period. We will return a biometric services fee if submitted separately from the base fee and will reject paper Form I-539 applications if you meet the above criteria and submit a single payment covering both the filing fee and the $85 biometrics services fee. If we reject the paper application because you included the $85 biometrics service fee, you will need to re-file Form I-539 without the biometric services fee.
and how to apply for citizenship and issuance of a certificate for adopted children who reside outside of the United States.
Furthermore, the updated guidance provides guidance on the acquisition
of citizenship and naturalization when an adoption is disrupted or dissolved. It aims to help adoptive families and adoptees understand the requirements for U.S. citizenship and documentation of their citizenship, if they are eligible.
It is important to note that the updated guidance does not change the requirements for adopted children to become U.S. citizens. Some children immigrating based on adoption automatically acquire U.S. citizenship when they are admitted to the United States as lawful permanent residents. However, for those who do not, their adoptive parents need to take additional steps before the child turns 18 years of age for the child to obtain U.S. citizenship through an adoptive parent. Adoptees who do not obtain citizenship through their adoptive parents before turning 18 may be eligible to apply for naturalization after the age of 18.
USCIS welcomes feedback on this update and encourages individuals to visit the Policy Manual Feedback page to comment on this update. Any comments received will be considered in future updates to the Policy Manual.

Ohio Lawmakers Remove Childcare Assistance Proposal for
Critical-Care Workers
Veera Saiesh (25), hailing from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, was killed at a gas station on West Broad Street, Franklinton in Columbus on Thursday morning.
According to information received by his family, the assailant shot Saiesh at 12.50 a.m. local time at the Shell fuel station, where he was working as a clerk. Saiesh, who was pursuing his master’s course and also doing a part-time job at a gas station, was rushed to a hospital and was pronounced dead after a while. The Columbus Police have released the photos of the suspect and appealed to the people to share any information about him.
Though the motive behind the shooting was not established yet, police suspect it to be a case of robbery.
Saiesh, who lost his father a few years ago, had gone to the United States in
November 2021 for studies. To help the family financially, he had also taken up a part-time job at a gas station. His mother and elder brother, who stay in Eluru, were shocked on receiving the information. They have appealed to the Indian government to help in bringing home the mortal remains.
COLUMBUS, OH—Ohio state lawmakers have removed $150 million from Governor Mike DeWine’s budget plan, which would have provided child-care scholarships for about 12,000 children of critical-care workers across the state. Child-care advocates have expressed disappointment, arguing that the money is necessary to help workers such as nurses, first responders, and child-care workers who are struggling to pay for child care, which can cost up to $10,000 per year.
The money, which would have come from Ohio’s share of federal coronavirus aid, would have been used to offer onetime payments to workers earning less
than 200% of the federal poverty line, or $60,000 per year for a family of four. State lawmakers did not touch a different proposal in DeWine’s budget to offer money to subsidize childcare costs for Ohioans making up to 160% of the federal poverty line ($48,000 per year for a family of four). Several prominent business organizations, including the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, have urged state lawmakers to approve the $150 million, along with other childcare funding included in the governor’s budget plan. House Speaker Jason Stephens declined to comment on the removal of the money, stating that it was part of the budgeting process.

Oakton College partners with 30+ organizations to address neurodiversity needs
NEW YORK, NY- The New York City (NYC) subway, bus, and commuter rail riders now have the option to bring personal electric vehicles (PEVs) such as scooters and ebikes on board as part of a new policy by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The policy aims to expand access to MTA transit points for commuters who don’t live within walking distance from stations, as part of a broader strategy to offset some of the financial losses incurred by the agency over the past few years. However, not all PEVs are allowed on board. Hoverboards and rentals such as Citi Bikes are prohibited, and express buses are also off-limits. In addition, the PEV must not be charged or ridden on any MTA train, subway, bus, platform, station, facility, or terminal. If the PEV is foldable, it must be compacted and carried, and the doors, seats, aisles, and emergency equipment must remain clear. Other rules include a 100-pound weight limit, a wheel diameter limit of 27 inches, and a length and height limit of 80 inches and 48 inches, respectively. The PEV must use Underwriter Laboratory (UL)certified batteries and must not emit environmental contaminants or have damaged batteries. Violations of these rules may result in penalties, fines, or expulsion from the transit system.
SKOKIE, IL-Oakton College recently organized an event called “Neurodiversity Resources in our Community” at their Skokie campus, which brought together over 30 local organizations to discuss resources and ways to support the neurodiverse community.
This event was part of Oakton’s commitment to creating just and thriving communities and ensuring that the needs of all members of the community, including the neurodivergent population, are understood and met.
Neurodiversity is a concept that acknowledges that brain differences are normal, and neurodivergent individuals refer to people with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or other neurodiverse conditions. According to the National Cancer Institute, neurodivergent individuals make up 15-20% of the world’s population and may require special accommodations and support in school and work. However, the unemployment rate for neurodivergent adults runs as high as 30-40%, which is three times the overall rate for people with disabilities and eight times the rate for people without disabilities, as per the University of Connecticut’s Center for Neurodiversity & Employment Innovation.
The event saw participation from
organizations offering postsecondary disability-related programs, high schools, and libraries.
Panelists from the Anixter Center, Options for College Success, and the Douglas Center led a discussion on how local organizations can collaborate to serve the neurodiverse population better. The goal of the event was to identify the needs, challenges, and experiences of the neurodiverse community and brainstorm how successful alliances could enhance the services offered to them.
Oakton College is committed to providing equitable access to education
for all students and advancing equity by providing educational opportunities for its diverse student body. The college’s new strategic plan, Vision 2030: Building Just and Thriving Communities, includes commitments to advancing racial justice, strengthening the student experience, enhancing workforce readiness, and community engagement. The college’s Access and Disability Resource Center Manager, Teresa O’Sullivan, expressed her satisfaction with the event’s outcome and the potential for partnerships that could make a lasting impact in the community.

lawmakers made changes to a proposed immigration bill that would no longer make it a felony to transport individuals without legal status within the state. Religious leaders had raised concerns that the initial language of the bill would have exposed them to felony charges if they transported undocumented individuals to church or Sunday school. The revised bill expands human-smuggling penalties for transporting five or more people without legal status into Florida, outside of the state, or if the defendant has a prior human-smuggling conviction. The bill, which is a top priority for Gov. Ron DeSantis, also requires businesses with 25 or more employees to verify immigration status through E-Verify and prohibits undocumented immigrants from practicing law in Florida.

IPL franchises tempt 6 English players with multimillion pound deals to quit international cricket
Discussions have already taken place with a number of high-profile Australian players about full-time deals but this has now been extended to English players. Contracts could be worth upwards of GBP 2 million a year and even as high as GBP 5 million — more than five times the value of the highest England central contracts
Owners of top IPL franchises are trying to convince as many as six premier England players to quit international cricket and take up handsome annual contracts ranging up to 5 million pounds in order to play T20 leagues round the year, the ‘Times London’ reported. Almost all the 10 IPL franchises have branched out in various leagues, including CPL (West Indies), SA T20 (South Africa), Global T20 League (UAE) and the upcoming Major League T20 in the US. The report, however, doesn’t state which are the franchise that have approached and who are the players involved in the discussion.
There will also be an ambitious Saudi T20 league where some of the IPL franchises might be investing.
‘The Times’ report quotes: “Initial discussions have taken place after at least six English players, including some international stars, were approached by IPL franchise owners and asked whether, in principle, they would accept a deal that would make an Indian team their main employer, rather than the ECB or an English county.” “This development follows discussions among players’ unions around the world about the potential implications of 12-month franchise contracts, which would be a significant step towards the football model of elite players being primarily contracted to their team
“We Share Love...”: Shoaib Malik Opens
and released for international duty, rather than the other way around.
“One source told The Times that contract offers could come as soon as the end of the year.” There is no doubt that T20 cricket is here to stay and T10 is also fast catching the imagination of the public. While ICC has always thought about putting a cap on the number of leagues that an active contracted player can take part in a year, one can’t rule out a possibility of a lot of young players either retiring from international cricket or giving up on central contracts to become free agents. The only hurdle in such a scenario could be ‘NOC’ from the respective country’s cricket board. “The probability of such a model being adopted has grown increasingly likely in recent years as some IPL franchise owners have bought stakes in several T20

Pakistan star cricketer Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis great Sania Mirza are a power couple who have massive fan following. The former Pakistan cricket team captain Malik and Sania, one of the best Indian tennis players ever, got married in 2013, and have a son, Izhan Mirza-Malik. Late last year, there were speculations that the relationship between Shoaib and Sania had soured. Now, Malik has broken silence over the rumours. “Khabre chal rahi hai, taluqat acche nahi hai. What do you want to say?” Malik was asked on Geo News programme ‘Score’.
“Nothing on it. On Eid I would like to say that had we been together it would have been great. But she has got commitments in IPL. She is doing shows in IPL. That’s why we are not together. We share love like always. I miss her a lot, that I can say,” Malik said. “There are (professional) commitments. But Eid is a day when you miss a lot the people who are close to you.” He added that, the duo does not pay heed to such rumours.
“This is why neither I released a statement nor did she,” he added.
tournaments in the UAE, South Africa, Caribbean — and now the United States with the new Major League Cricket venture which begins in July,” the newspaper was quoted as saying.
The paper also claimed that a discussion on similar lines took place with star Australian T20 specialists also.
“Discussions have already taken place with a number of high-profile Australian players about full-time deals but this has now been extended to English players. Contracts could be worth upwards of GBP 2 million a year and even as high as GBP 5 million — more than five times the value of the highest England central contracts.” The paper also spoke about the possibility of having partial contracts both with ECB or county and the IPL franchise, especially, the ones who play white-ball cricket.
“Reduced IPL deals — covering at least three of the rounds — would also be on offer. It is unlikely that any of England’s Test stars will walk away from their central contracts in favour of a franchise contract but the sheer amount of money on offer makes that a risk in the future. “What is more likely is that players will arrange “bespoke” deals depending on their own circumstances, which could result in them being part-contracted to their county or the ECB and partcontracted to a franchise.”
Allegations against WFI chief should be investigated: Bhupinder Hooda
Ravi Shastri’s Message to BCCI Selectors on WTC Final Squad
Former Haryana chief minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday said the allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be investigated with impartiality. India’s top wrestlers on Tuesday
intensified their protest against Singh and asserted that they won’t leave the protest site at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, who is facing sexual harassment charges, is arrested. While interacting with reporters here, Hooda said that justice should be given to the sportspersons who have brought laurels to the country. He was asked about the protest by the wrestlers. “The players protesting at Jantar Mantar have made serious allegations against the wrestling federation. It is necessary to investigate them with impartiality,” the leader of Opposition in the state assembly said.

The wrestlers continued to receive support from politicians and farmers’ organisations as former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik visited the protest site and said it was a matter of shame that athletes who are honoured in the country for their success are now fighting for justice on the streets.
Country’s top wrestlers resumed their agitation against the wrestling federation’s chief on Sunday, three months after they ended their sit-in protest following the formation of an oversight committee to probe into the serious allegations.
India on Tuesday announced the squad for World Test Championship final against Australia that is slated to kick off on June 7 at the Oval, London. The highlights of the selection were the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane into the team and the exclusion of Suryakumar Yadav from the 15-member squad. From the Indian squad that featured against Australia in the 3rd and 4th Test, Kuldeep Yadav and Ishan Kishan were also also among the notable absentees. Shreyas Iyer couldn’t be a part of the team owing to an injury.
On the other hand, all-rounder Shardul Thakur has also been included in the squad for the WTC final.
Impressed by the squad named for the summit clash, former India captain and ex-coach Ravi Shastri lauded the BCCI selectors and management. “Best Indian team selected. Well done selectors and team management,” wrote Shastri on Twitter.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spent more than ₹ 45 crore on renovating his residence, the BJP said on Wednesday, accusing him of extravagant hypocrisy, and prompting emphatic rebuttals involving videos of crumbling ceilings by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Mr Kejriwal, who leads the AAP, had betrayed his promise of promoting
honesty and simplicity when he entered politics. He called him a “Maharaja,” or king, and said he had a “lust for luxury and comfort.” Mr Patra also alleged, without evidence, that Mr Kejriwal had offered ₹ 20 to 50 crore to media houses to suppress the story, but they had ignored his offer. He cited documents that showed that Mr Kejriwal’s residence had been fitted with expensive marble from Vietnam, pre-fabricated wooden walls and curtains that cost lakhs of rupees each. One curtain alone cost more than ₹ 7.94 lakh, he said.

Washington, April 26 (IANS) Ro Khanna, a US lawmaker of Indian descent, has urged those among the Indian diaspora who have been raising the bogey of growing “Hinduphobia” lately, to focus on unifying issues.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a day-long conference he is hosting on Capitol Hill on India-US elections, the lawmaker also indicated that he will push for an invitation to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi to address a joint session of Congress during his June visit, which, to be clear, has not been announced officially. Khanna is one of US Congress’s three Hindu Americans and his home state California is currently a battleground for Hindu Americans who are trying to prevent the enactment of a proposed law that seeks to ban castebased discrimination, which they have blamed on, among other things, those opposed to Hindus.
The phrase “Hinduphobia” is used by these Hindu Americans to describe and define all and any real or imagined slights.
“I grew up Indian American, Hindu American, in the 1980s, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was 97 per cent, white and Christian. And I didn’t know the word Hinduphobia or feel Hinduphobia at any single point in my life growing up,” he said recalling something he said in an earlier conversation with someone.
