US uncovers Capitol raid plot

The police force that guards the US Capitol said on Wednesday it has obtained intelligence pointing to a possible plot by a militia group to breach the building on Thursday, an alleged plan with echoes of the January 6 Capitol attack. A US Capitol Police statement did not name the organisation but called it “an identified militia group”. Authorities have said Right-wing extremists were part of a mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump that stormed the Capitol and interrupted the formal congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory. Thursday marks the date when some Right-wing conspiracy theorists have claimed that Trump, defeated by Biden in the November 3 election, will be sworn in

for a second term in office. Among those arrested in connection with the January 6 rampage were members of the Right-wing groups the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Five people including a police officer died in the riot. The Capitol Police said it is working with local, state and federal agencies “to stop any threats to the Capitol”, adding, “We are taking the intelligence seriously.” No further details on the threat were provided. The Capitol Police statement noted that the department already has made “significant security upgrades” at the Capitol, home to the US House of Representatives and Senate. It was unclear if these upgrades were made in response to this latest threat or were measures put in place following the January 6 riot.

HiIndia Newsdesk ORLANDO, Fla. -- A majority of small businesses are not requiring their employees to get tested for the new coronavirus or get any COVID-19 vaccines, though the health care and hospitality industries are ahead of the curve on this requirement, according to a report released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau's most recent Small Business Pulse Survey showed 70% of the small businesses surveyed said “no" when asked if they had required employees to test negative for COVID-19 before

coming to work in the last week. Another 10% said “yes" and almost 20% said the question was not applicable. Of the small businesses, two sectors, health care and accommodations/ food service had higher rates than the national average — respectively 15.5% and 14.3%. When asked if employees were asked to have proof of COVID-19 vaccination in the past week, 2.2% of the small businesses answered “yes" and 78.4% answered “no," with 19.4% saying it wasn't applicable, according to the survey.

Google first announced it would get rid of third-party cookies, which for decades has enabled online ads, early last year to meet growing data privacy standards in Europe and the US. The Capitol Police said in a statement that it has obtained intelligence about the plot planned by an "identified militia group" and already made "significant security upgrades" to the Capitol starting earlier this week, Xinhua news agency reported. The security upgrades include "establishing a physical structure and increasing manpower to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers," said the statement, adding that the force is "working with our local, state, and federal partners to stop any threats to the Capitol.""We are taking the intelligence seriously. Due to the sensitive nature of this information, we cannot provide additional details at this time," the statement said.

Health officials expect the entry of more private hospitals to accelerate the vaccination campaign that expanded on Monday to include age-linked priority groups from the general population through over 10,000 government and 12,500 private hospitals.

This is for the first time that the CM will be speaking directly to voters over the phone, seeking votes for the TRS in the elections. Rao is learnt to have directed ministers and party leaders to provide him with the phone numbers of graduate voters in six districts that are going to the polls. The CM asked them to categorise the voters as graduates, postgraduates, private employees, government employees, women, IT employees, advocates and other professionals and provide their phone numbers accordingly.

The little flavours Farhad (Samji) has given to Myra, my character, makes her stand out.” “I have almost completed the film and I am left with just a week of work without Akshay sir in Mumbai that I will be doing in May,” she added. Having wrapped Bachchan Pandey, the actress has already started with Bhediya in which she will be starring alongside Varun Dhawan and will start shooting for Ganapath from June. Talking about the variety of roles coming her way, she said, “I

am glad and I am fortunate that I am getting to work on projects that I always wanted. I like the fact as an actor these are all very different genres, the characters are different, so I as an actor will get to show range. Where Bachchan Pandey is an entertaining and very engaging script, Bhediya is a completely different genre, which is horror comedy which I have not done before. I can call it a monster comedy because of the wolf aspect. Ganapath is a very unique slightly fictional action flick. And as you saw the teaser and motion poster, my character has more action to her also. That's going to be a first for me and who better to do it with apart from Tiger. I am so glad that after 7 years we are doing a film together in his favourite genre and that too a first for me.” While today the actress is getting to be a part of different genres there was a time when she feared being stereotyped, “I kind of felt that I might get stereotyped with the small town characters that I was playing. But the characters were so different that it didn't matter. I think as an actor it is very boring to be repeating yourself all the same time.”

This is why I jumped on to it so that I could create a memorable character, something I would be proud of years later. It’s not a run-of-the-mill story and that makes it really exciting for me. Given it’s a new channel, they wanted to try out something different. The trend in programming is also changing, and people are accepting newer concepts.

There is a certain expectation when you are a face of a project. Does that add pressure for you? I am amazed, amused and extremely grateful. I sometimes cannot fathom how I get so much love. But I have always taken all the appreciation with a pinch of salt. As an actor, I am most comfortable when I am led by a good team of writers and director. When you have a strong base, you can go on to add colours to it. I think it’s always a team effort.

Gone are the times, when the shishya would go and stay in the guru’s ashram and learn the skills and also imbibe how to conduct oneself in life. But whether there is an ashram or not, what is essential in this parampara is that not only the technical skills are imparted and perfected by the shishyas, but also the intangible aspects of the art form, its soul, understanding of what it really means as also life’s values and how to conduct oneself in life.

With fewer calories and less sugar, diet soda promised to be a healthier alternative to regular soda. But like most promises in life that sound too good to be true, it probably is. Can you tell the difference between a glass of regular and diet soda? Turns out, neither can your body. And that's where the trouble starts. Until recently, everything we ate contained some amount of calories. When we ate something sweet, for example, the brain sent signals to our pancreas. Which started

Scientists at Northwestern University are doing a dream job—literally: they’re questioning people who are deep in dream-filled REM sleep. The crazy part? Those dreamers are actually answering basic questions by moving their eyes back and forth. By prompting people to lucid dream and asking questions, these scientists are proving dreams are permeable in both directions. That’s big. We’ve known for a while that dreams can include things prompted by real life, like a monster that turns out to be a stifling pillow or an alarm clock noise that joins the dream action. But this is one of the first experiments to show that people having dreams can reach out from their dreaming state into real life. “Individuals who are asleep and in the midst of a lucid dream (aware of the fact that they are currently dreaming) can perceive questions from an experimenter and provide answers using electrophysiological signals,” the researchers write in Current Biology. In the study, the subjects exhibited “various capabilities” during REM sleep, the scientists say, including making “distinctive eye movements and selective facial muscle contractions” and correctly answering questions “on 29 occasions across 6 of the individuals tested.” Polysomnography, a fancy word for sleep study, “records your brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as eye and leg movements during the study,” according to the Mayo Clinic. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates revived the old 'iPhone vs Android' debate when he recently revealed that he has a personal preference for Android devices. In an interview on the audio chat app Clubhouse, the billionaire said that he prefers an Android smartphone to an Apple iPhone because the former comes with some pre-installed Microsoft software. According to Geek Wire, journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin interviewed Bill Gates on the invite-only app Clubhouse on Wednesday night. Mr Gates spoke about several topics, including cryptocurrency bitcoin, the coronavirus pandemic and why he prefers Android over Apple smartphones. Ironically, Clubhouse is only available on Apple iOS at the moment and does not support Android. Mr Gates said that has used iPhones, but the device he is using these days is Android. "I actually use an Android phone," Bill Gates said. "Because I want to keep track of everything, I'll often play around with iPhones, but the one I carry around happens to be Android." When questioned further by Mr Sorkin, the Microsoft co-founder said that some Android devices come pre-loaded with Microsoft software. "Some of the Android manufacturers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easy for me," Mr Gates said. "They're more flexible about how the software connects up with the operating system. So that's what I ended up getting used to. You know, a lot of my friends have iPhone, so there's no purity." In 2019, Bill Gates had said that his "greatest mistake ever" was Microsoft losing to Android as the standard platform for non-Apple devices, reports The Verge. "The greatest mistake ever is whatever mismanagement I engaged in that caused Microsoft not to be what Android is. That is, Android is the standard non-Apple phone platform. That was a natural thing for Microsoft to win," he said.

When he’s consulting with a client on how to style his beard, Thad steers him to a style that will compliment: 1) the way his facial hair grows in, and 2) the shape of his head. As Thad explains: “If a guy tries to grow a beard that looks good on a celebrity but wouldn’t compliment their own face and facial hair, they’re just going to look silly. You’ve got to work with what you got.”

Round Face. If you have a roundshaped face, you want to pick a beard and hairstyle that will give some length to your face. A longer beard will do just the trick. “Avoid really short beards or stubble if you have a round face,” Thad advises. “It just highlights the fact that you don’t have a chin.”

Oblong/Rectangle Face. “With a rectangle face, you’ve got to be careful with a few things because the face is longer than it is wide,” Thad says. “You want to avoid hairstyles and beard styles that make your head look longer and skinnier”

The popularity of beards has waxed (the mid 19th century) and waned (the 1950s), and for the past decade or so has been on the definite upswing. Maybe you’ve tried growing one out yourself. If your beard is patchy, keep your beard short. “If mother nature has endowed you with a patchy, sparse beard, your options are going to be limited on beard styles,” Thad said. “If you try to grow a long beard, it’s just going to look stringy and unkempt.”

Criteria #2 for Selecting a Beard Style: Consider the Shape of Your Face

After looking at whether you have patchy or full facial hair, Thad recommends looking at your face shape when determining your beard style. “The goal is to make your head look as oval as possible.”

Diamond Face. Men with a diamondshaped face have wide cheekbones but narrow jaw and brow lines. “A nice full beard can expand the skinny jawline on a diamond-shaped face,”

Square Face. The square-shaped face is a classically masculine face shape. You want to avoid beard styles that make your face look wider. “Guys with square-shaped faces can’t go wrong with keeping their beard and hairstyle closely cropped. Think Jason Statham: buzz cut and stubble. It’s a really good look,” Thad says.
