The R-Day Parade A Big Change In Republic Day Parade This Year
Quitting was the only option for ‘cornered’ captain
T
he Republic Day parade will begin half an hour later than usual this year. With foggy days predicted around January 26, the parade will start at 10.30 am instead of 10 am for better visibility, the Defence Ministry has decided. “Since it is being predicted that it will be a foggy morning for a better viewing experience for spectators at the parade, 10 large LED screens five on each side of Rajpath - will be installed,” a senior Defence Ministry
official said today. Curated films combining footage from previous Republic Day Parades, short films on the Armed Forces and stories related to various events in the run-up to the Republic day 2022 will be screened before the parade begins. Later, the screens will beam the parade live. The guest list and parade have been cut short this year due to Covid. Approximately 24,000 people will be allowed to attend the Republic Day
parade this year, because of the Covid situation in Delhi. “Out of the approximately 24,000 people who will be attending the parade this year, 19,000 are invited and the rest are the general public, who can purchase tickets,” sources said. Last year too, the parade took place amid the Covid pandemic and close to 25,000 people were allowed to attend it. Before the pandemic erupted, in the 2020 parade, around 1.25 lakh people were permitted. 15

Ukraine tension:
Biden Disappointed
Biden says he thinks Putin will 'move in' HiIndia Newsdesk
A
US President Joe Biden has said he thinks his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will "move in" on Ukraine, but does not want "full-blown war".
As US Senators Stall His Push To Reform Voting Rights HiIndia Newsdesk
sked at a news conference about the threat of a Russian invasion, he said: "My guess is he will move in, he has to do something." But he warned that the Russian leader would pay a "serious and dear price" for "testing" the West. Moscow denies planning to attack or invade but has built up its forces. It is estimated to have about 100,000 troops close to Ukraine's borders. White House officials later issued a statement clarifying the US position, after some reporters at the news conference questioned Mr Biden about whether the US would allow a small incursion into Ukraine following his comments. In a statement issued on Wednesday night, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said: "If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border, that's a renewed invasion, and it will be met with a swift, severe, and united response from the United States and our Allies."
Washington: US senators dealt a death blow Wednesday to President Jo e Bi d e n ' s push to defend voting rights against what Democrats frame as an all-out assault by conservative states targeting racial minorities. Faced with a blockade from Republicans complaining of federal overreach, the ruling Democrats were unable to push through the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act passed by the House of Representatives last week. "I am profoundly disappointed that the Senate has failed to stand up for our democracy. I am disappointed -- but I am not deterred," Biden said in a statement posted to social media immediately after the vote. "We will continue to advance necessary legislation and push for Senate procedural changes that will protect the fundamental right to vote." Democrats and voting rights activists have championed the measures as a necessary response to Republican efforts to restrict voting, especially among Black and Latino Americans.

Washington: The United States and Britain opened talks on Wednesday aimed at resolving the dispute over tariffs Washington placed on imported steel and aluminum during former president Donald Trump's

administration. Citing the "serious threat" posed by excess global capacity of the metals, which is largely blamed on China, top trade officials from the two countries said they are "committed to working towards an expeditious outcome," according to their joint statement. The tariffs imposed on US allies by the Trump administration caused friction with trading partners including London, which retaliated with punitive duties on American goods. US Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo met virtually with Britain's International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan, and pledged to find "effective solutions." The officials "discussed the impact on their industries stemming from global excess capacity driven largely by China. The distortions that result from this excess capacity pose a serious threat to marketoriented steel and aluminum industries in the United States and the United Kingdom, and to the workers in those industries."
Both ANA and Japan Airlines said they were restoring service on Thursday after assurances from regulators at the US Federal Aviation Administration. New York: Telecom giants AT&T and Verizon began 5G service in the United States Wednesday without major disruptions to flights after the launch of the new wireless technology was scaled back.A handful of international carriers removed flights to the United States from their schedules
Wednesday, but there were not mass cancellations and some of those companies planned to resume service on Thursday. On Wednesday, about 215 flights either planned to depart or land in US airports were canceled, according to the website Flight Aware.
Better.com CEO Vishal Garg. HiIndia Newsdesk
It was announced on Wednesday that Vishal Garg is returning to his position, weeks after the company's board had announced in a staff memo that he was "taking time off" following the "very regrettable events."
An Indian-origin chief executive of an online mortgage company, who faced criticism after firing about 900 employees over Zoom last month, is returning to his position. Vishal Garg, the CEO of Better.com, had fired almost 900 employees over a Zoom call just weeks before Christmas last year. “I come to you with not great news. If you’re on this call you are part of the unlucky group that is being laid off. Your employment here is terminated effective immediately,” Garg had said, drawing widespread criticism over the way he informed about 9 per cent of the company’s employees that they were being let go.
"No Apologies For What I Did": Joe Biden Reflects On US' Afghanistan Exit HiIndia Newsdesk
Washington: US President Joe Biden on Wednesday defended his decision to pull out from Afghanistan and said "I make no apologies for what I did". Speaking on the occasion of completing a year in the office, he said, "There is no way to

But cybersecurity group Citizen Lab says the app fails to provide encryption on many of its files. China has dismissed the concerns. Superbug Infections Killed 1.2 Million People Worldwide In 2019: Report
HiIndia Newsdesk
A New Zealand Hercules aircraft carrying emergency supplies left Auckland this morning
The first foreign aid plane has arrived in Tonga, carrying muchneeded water and supplies for the Pacific nation. New Zealand said its military plane landed at Tonga's main airport after workers cleared ash from the runway. Other planes and ships sent by New Zealand and Australia are on the way. Saturday's eruption of an undersea volcano and tsunami wave saw volcanic
ash blanketing the islands, posing a serious health risk. The ash and sea water have contaminated water supplies. At least three people have died and communications have been crippled, and Tonga has only just begun to reestablish global contact after five days cut off from the rest of the world. A thick layer of ash had covered the airport runway in the capital Nuku'alofa, preventing planes from landing.
Experts are trying to assess the impact of volcanic ash and toxic sulphuric gases in the air after a volcano erupted in Tonga on Saturday. The eruption showered the Pacific islands with ash and triggered a tsunami. People have been advised to stay away from low-lying areas and beaches. Now, the priority is to find safe shelter and clean water, and to escape the volcanic smog. The plumes of gas and debris from the volcano reached 20km (12 miles) into the sky - but the main health concerns are from ash in the air which people are breathing.
Covid-19 health emergency could be over this year, WHO says HiIndia Newsdesk
Dr. Michael Ryan, speaking during a panel discussion on vaccine inequity hosted by the World Economic Forum, said "we may never end the virus because such pandemic viruses end up becoming part of the ecosystem."
The worst of the coronavirus pandemic-deaths, hospitalisations and lockdowns could be over this year if huge inequities in vaccinations and medicines are addressed quickly, the head of emergencies at the World Health Organisation said Tuesday. Dr. Michael Ryan, speaking during a panel discussion on vaccine inequity hosted by the World Economic Forum, said “we may never end the virus because such pandemic viruses end up becoming part of the ecosystem.” But “we have a chance to end the public health emergency this year if we do the things that we’ve been talking about,” he said. WHO has slammed the imbalance in COVID-19 vaccinations between rich and poor countries as a catastrophic moral failure. Fewer than 10% of people in lower-income countries have received even one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Ryan told the virtual gathering of world and business leaders that if vaccines and other tools aren’t shared fairly, the tragedy of the virus, which has so far killed more than 5.5 million people worldwide, would continue.
Washington: Superbug infections killed 1.2 million people in 2019, according to a study published Thursday, which authors described as the most comprehensive assessment of the impact of antimicrobial resistance to date. The death count means infections by bacteria resistant to antibiotics are directly responsible for more deaths than HIV/AIDS or malaria. The report, published in the Lancet, also found antimicrobial resistance played a role in up to 3.68 million other deaths.
Czech Singer Hana Horka Dies After Catching Covid Deliberately

Utpal Parrikar is reportedly firm on contesting from Panaji and has refused the BJP’s offer of two other seats. “I will clear my stand soon,” he told reporters. The BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis said Utpal had been offered two other options. “We feel he should accept it. BJP has always given respect to the Parrikar Parivar,” Mr Fadnavis
said, hoping to stave off a revolt. But Utpal Parrikar could soon be spoilt for choice. He already has an offer from Arvind Kejriwal, who tweeted shortly after the BJP released its Goa list. “Goans feel very sad that BJP has adopted use-and-throw policy even with the Parrikar family. I have always respected Manohar Parrikar ji. Utpal ji is welcome to join and fight elections on AAP ticket,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted, sharing an NDTV report. Last week, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut had appealed to opposition parties to support Utpal Parrikar if he fell out with the BJP and contested as an independent.

resident Biden’s allies on Capitol Hill formally introduced his immigration overhaul in the House on Thursday morning, making good on his campaign promise to seek to modernize the nation’s immigration system and provide a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented Americans. “We’re here today because last November 80 million Americans voted against Donald Trump and against everything he stood for,” Senator Bob Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey, said at a virtual news conference. “They voted to restore common sense, compassion, and competence in our government. And part of that mandate is fixing
our immigration system, which is a cornerstone of Trump’s hateful horror show.”The unveiling puts a spotlight on a high-profile and thorny political issue that Mr. Biden is hoping to address, despite the steep political challenges associated with moving immigration legislation in Congress. It comes at a time when the president and Democratic lawmakers are already in the midst of another major legislative undertaking: passing another coronavirus relief package. A planned trip by Mr. Biden to visit a Pfizer vaccine manufacturing facility in Michigan on Thursday was postponed until Friday because of a winter storm in the Washington area.

he Telangana government has decided to introduce English as the medium of instruction in over 26,000 government primary and secondary schools across the state from the next academic year after demands for the same, especially from rural areas.
State education minister Sabita Indra Reddy told The Indian Express that over the next couple of years, over 26,000 government primary and secondary schools will be converted into English medium institutions. “While the enrolment in government schools has increased overall in the state, there is still some hesitancy and the reason we found was the lack of English medium instruction. In every village I visit, people suggest that their local government school should be made into an English medium school with English medium instruction. Parents who are at present hesitant to send their kids to government schools told us that they are ready to enroll them if the medium of instruction is changed to English. The demand is unanimous everywhere.” “The government Monday decided to start teaching in English from the next academic year. Of course, we have to develop a lot of infrastructure and provide training to teachers as well as prepare the primary school students for the change. Telugu will continue to be taught as a subject,’’ she said. A cabinet subcommittee of 11 ministers headed by Reddy has been formed to prepare the action plan for the implementation of English medium on a par with private schools.

REPUBLIC DAY
A Big Change In Republic Day Parade This Year HiIndia Newsdesk
T
Republic Day 2022: Approximately 24,000 people will be allowed to attend the Republic Day parade this year, because of the Covid situation in Delhi.
he Republic Day parade will begin half an hour later than usual this year. With foggy days predicted around January 26, the parade will start at 10.30 am instead of 10 am for better visibility, the Defence Ministry has decided. "Since it is being predicted that it will be a foggy morning for a better viewing experience for spectators at the parade, 10 large LED screens - five on each side of Rajpath - will be installed," a senior Defence Ministry official said today. Curated films combining footage from previous Republic Day Parades, short films on the Armed Forces and stories related to various events in the run-up to the Republic day 2022 will be screened before the parade begins. Later, the screens will beam the parade live. The guest list and parade have been cut short this year due to Covid. Approximately 24,000 people will be allowed to attend the Republic Day parade this year, because of the Covid situation in Delhi. "Out of the approximately 24,000 people who will

be attending the parade this year, 19,000 are invited and the rest are the general public, who can purchase tickets," sources said. Last year too, the parade took place amid the Covid pandemic and close to 25,000 people were allowed to attend it. Before the pandemic erupted, in the 2020 parade, around 1.25 lakh people were permitted. For the second year in a row, the parade may not have any foreign dignitary as chief guest. But a number of firsts are lined up this time. On January 26, a nationwide flagship programme of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) 'Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman' will be launched as part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' to honour the supreme sacrifices of the fallen heroes in defending the Nation. The family of some 5,000 fallen heroes will be presented with the Plaque of Gratitude by National Cadet Corp members all over the country around the same time as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi pays homage to soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
"This year's Republic Day falls in the 75th year of India's Independence being celebrated as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. You will see many firsts during the main parade on Rajpath on January 26 as also during the "Beating Retreat" ceremony on January 29," an officer said. As many as 75 aircraft are set to participate in the traditional fly-past that marks the end of the ceremony. Vintage as well as modern aircraft like Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mi-17, Sarang, Apache and Dakota will be showcased. The Fly-Past will witness 15 different formations by these aircraft/helicopters Security agencies have fortified the areas around Rajpath, the ceremonial road on which the parade takes place, with multilayer security after a bomb was found and defused at the Ghazipur flower market just days before the parade. "We have installed 300 CCTVs with facial recognition systems to keep an eye on every movement in this area," a senior officer said.

These 75 aircraft will also include five Rafale. "The grandest flypast ever to take place over Rajpath during the Republic Day parade with 75 aircraft including the planes from IAF, Army, and the Navy. Anushka Sharma pens heartfelt note as Virat Kohli steps down as India Test Captain
remember the day in 2014 when you told me that you have been made the captain as MS had decided to retire from test cricket. I remember MS, you & I having a chat later that day & him joking about how quickly your beard will start turning grey. We all had a good laugh about it. Since that day, I’ve seen more than just your beard turning grey. I’ve seen growth. Immense growth. Around you & within you." Anushka Sharma then praised the dedication and effort that Virat put in to nourish the Indian Cricket Team and mark several achievements on the way. "What you did was to always stand up for doing the right thing, the harder thing, always! You held on to nothing with greed, not even this position & I know that. Because when one holds on to something so tightly they limit themselves & you, my love, are limitless. Our daughter will see the learning of these 7 years in the father that you are to her. You did good.

Kohli changed the culture of the national team to fit his philosophy
Quitting was the only option for ‘cornered’ captain
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has stepped down as captain of India men's Test team. He captained India in a recordbreaking 68 Tests, winning 40 matches - the fourth best record of any Test captain in history. Sports writer Suresh Menon examines his legacy.
K
HiIndia Newsdesk
ohli jumped before he was pushed. Some may have been surprised when he stepped down as captain of the men's Test team on Saturday, but the signs were clear before the team even left for South Africa. Few captains have taken on the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India the way Kohli did - he virtually called its president a liar as he contradicted what Sourav Ganguly had said about Kohli being asked to stay on as the Twenty20 captain when he decided to quit that format. Board officials have long memories, and Kohli had put undue pressure on himself to succeed in South Africa. From past experience, one knew that any excuse to cut Kohli down to size
While announcing his resignation, Kohli said that in his cricket, he "left nothing out there". He didn't hold back personally either, and what you saw was what he was - committed, self-confident, and inspiring.
would be used post-South Africa. India losing the series 1-2 to a lower ranked team meant the board could claim legitimacy for its action. Kohli had pushed himself into a corner. Not so long ago, a draw was considered the equivalent of a win for Indian cricket since the alternative was usually a loss. Times have changed. Now India is expected to win everything. As skipper, Kohli has had a major role to play in this psychological reversal. With 40 wins in 68 Tests as captain (24 at home, 16 away), he is India's most successful. History will judge him more kindly than his contemporaries will. Unsurprisingly for someone who lived most of his life in the public eye - and provoked strong emotions - Kohli's actions were often overinterpreted. The temptation to look beyond the obvious meant that simpler motives were often ignored. When Kohli was an over-aggressive, self-centred teenager, the popular feeling was that unless he mellowed, he had no chance of playing for India. People failed to understand that he was merely acting his age. Kohli's response was Shavian - instead of adopting himself to the ethos of the national team, he changed the culture of the national team to fit his philosophy. Within a generation, the Indian team became aggressive, self-confident, wedded to the concept of victory and an uncompromising bunch of players who gave as good as they got. For fans, success in cricket was compensation for failure in other fields. While announcing his resignation, Kohli said that in his cricket, he "left nothing out there". He didn't hold back personally either, and what you saw was what he was - committed, self-confident, and inspiring. His belligerence was welcomed by the so-called "New India". If Sachin Tendulkar was the poster boy of the economically self-confident India, Kohli became the poster boy of the psychologically self-confident one. The age of Kohli the captain is over, but Kohli the batsman will remain, and perhaps the end of the captain will see the resurgence of the batter. He hasn't made an international century in two years, and that must be worrying Kohli, who is his own severest critic. Of the two questions that are in the air following Kohli's resignation, one needs to be answered soon while the other will be answered only in time. The second one first - Kohli's legacy. Will India play with the same spirit and
power as they did under him? At Cape Town, in his final Test as captain, Kohli made a show of walking up to the stump microphone and expressing his disappointment at a decision taken off the field by the review system. This was childish, petulant and unbecoming, and he ought to have been pulled up for it. The act also encouraged two other players to insult the broadcasters by accusing them of playing for the home team. This is the part of the legacy India can do without. Yet, there is much to be said for the positives: the self-belief and aggression, the spirit of one-for-all, all-for-one in the team. The legacy of fast bowling that seems natural now, but is a result of Kohli's role in developing a pack of world-class bowlers - from Jasprit Bumrah to those waiting in the wings. Yet, it is interesting that when Kohli returned from Australia after the first Test, stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane's team appeared less belligerent. Selfconfidence can sometimes slip into self-harming arrogance and perhaps more depends on the personality of the captain than we realise. The Kohli-driven emphasis on fitness should remain a feature of Indian teams from here on. And his support for Test cricket above all other formats too. And now, the first question: who will succeed Kohli? Rohit Sharma is older and not a long-term solution. Yet, for the immediate future, he is clearly the man (India can't ignore his claims simply because he is prone to injuries). The crucial slot here is that of the vice captain. Rishabh Pant - younger, and a certainty in all formats - is the obvious choice. A period of apprenticeship under Sharma will do him and Indian cricket much good. It's useful to know that Kohli's boys will have Kohli in their corner.

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, recently deported from Australia due to his coronavirus vaccine status, is co-founder and majority shareholder of a biotech firm developing a Covid treatment, the Danish company's CEO said Wednesday. "He is one of the founders of my company we founded in June 2020," the chief executive of QuantBioRes, Ivan Loncarevic, told AFP. According to information publicly available in the Danish business register, 34-year-old Djokovic and his wife, Jelena, together hold a stake of 80 percent in QuantBioRes, which employs a workforce of around 20 in Denmark, Slovenia, Australia and Britain. "We aim to develop a new technology to fight viruses and resistant bacteria and we decided to use Covid as a showcase," Loncarevic said "If we succeed with Covid, we will succeed with other viruses." QuantBioRes is planning to launch clinical trials in the UK in the summer, the CEO said. The unvaccinated men's world number one flew out of Melbourne on Sunday after he failed in a last-gasp court bid to stay and play in the opening Grand Slam of the year, where he was targeting a record 21st major title. His dramatic departure followed a protracted, high-stakes legal battle between the athlete and Australian authorities that cast a dark shadow over the tournament. Contacted by AFP, Djokovic's spokesman declined to comment on the tennis star's stake in the Danish biotech firm.

Fantasy documents are often used as breeder documents— fraudulent forms of identification serving as a template for which criminals create other fake IDs.
HiIndia Newsdesk
CINCINNATI, OH – Since early December, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intensified inspections on outbound shipments moving through the Cincinnati Port of Entry. During Special Operation Red Phantom, officers focused enforcement efforts on fantasy and breeder documents produced in the United States and shipped to countries on every
continent. A fantasy document is a pseudo document that has the appearance of legal documentation, but is not issued by a legitimate organization or government agency and is not recognized in the United States as an official travel or identification instrument. Fantasy documents are often used as breeder documents—fraudulent forms of identification serving as a template for which criminals create other fake IDs. From December 6, 2021-January 10, 2022, Cincinnati CBP officers have seized 617 shipments containing 2,211 fantasy documents such as international driver’s licenses and accompanying booklets. All of the licenses originated in New York or Florida by a company not authorized to produce these types of documentation. Only two companies have authorization by the U.S. Department of State to print international driver’s licenses in the United States: The American Automobile Association (AAA) or American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA). “These counterfeit documents can lead to disastrous consequences,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director, Field Operations-Chicago. “Criminal organizations use these counterfeits to avoid attracting attention to their illegal activities.”
CHICAGO, IL-The general meeting of Indian Seniors of Chicago was held recently via Zoom. About 150 members participated in the meeting successfully conducted by Mr. Dilipbhai Patel, a member of the Executive Committee. President Dr. Narsinhbhai Patel talked about the tough Covid times and the importance of maintaining one’s health. An introductory program was held for the new members who joined the Indian Seniors of Chicago Group in the year 2022. Mr. Bhupendra Suthar and Mrs. Geeta Suthar conducted flag ceremony at their home, broadcasted on Zoom, to celebrate Indian Republic Day.

HEALTH
the age bar
he biological model of ageing is defined by renowned biologist Leonard Hayflick from the different angles of cellular theories, genetic theories and control theories. • Cellular theories focus on degenerative changes that occur on a cellular level due to increase in free radicals with age. They increase in number due to biological processes as well as exposure to carcinogenic chemicals (i.e., smoking), radiation and other environmental factors. • Genetic theories deal with heredity and suggest that cellular degeneration is pre-programmed. • Control theories indicate that the efficiency of several systems that are critical to our functioning, like the neuroendocrine system, central nervous system and our immunity system gradually reduces with age. Science hasn’t discovered how to arrest the ageing process. So let us focus on how to slow down the clock. Physical activity is a lifestyle anti-ageing intervention. Exercise has shown to have great beneficial effects on the functioning of older adults. The ageing process compromises several key components of our body that are required for efficiently conducting our activities of daily living. Let’s take a look at how we can minimise
773.526.8353
Chronological age is one number. Functional age, on the other hand, is the sum of your physiological, psychological (cognitive) and social advantages or their lack. For example, an active 70-year-old may far exceed the mobility, strength and energy levels of someone who is a sedentary 60. This is called successful ageing.
the impact: Sarcopenia is defined as the loss of muscular strength with age. More specifically, it is the Type II muscle fibres (required for high intensity activity) that are lost. In fact, research points that reduction in these muscle fibres lead to insulin resistance, a fear of falling and mild cognitive impairment. In order to preserve these muscle fibres, older adults are recommended to include suitable (age-modified) high intensity interval training. Along with high intensity training, increasing muscular strength with weight training is also strongly recommended. Use of resistance bands or light weights to increase muscular load works wonders in the long run. Cardiorespiratory fitness deals with our stamina to perform activities. Ageing-related loss of cardiorespiratory fitness results in loss of autonomy, frailty and increased dependence. Taking part in a fitness programme that works on stamina can certainly help older adults improve their cardiorespiratory function. Just 20 minutes of cardio exercise 3 — 5 days a week will be a good starting point. Static and dynamic posture, balance and flexibility deal with the body’s ability to move comfortably within its
normal range of motion. Sensory and neuromuscular effects of ageing, loss of muscle strength and elasticity play an adverse effect on all these factors. Loss of balance and falls has been identified as a hazard that many older individuals face. The good news is that regaining motor control is possible through cognitive motor training. Therefore including yoga based exercises (great for flexibility and motor training) in the fitness programme is essential. Social, cognitive and emotional wellness is known to be adversely affected with age. Engaging in regular exercise immediately relieves anxiety and depression. Improvement in strength, balance and mobility is a strong confidence booster. Taking part in group fitness sessions, interactions with the coach and other participants can be social engagement for many in the senior age group. The most common problem preventing seniors from participating in an exercise programme is their belief that at their age it cannot be done! This assumption is incorrect. All that one needs to do to break this barrier is to give it a try. Always consult a professional before starting on a workout.
1. Tomatoes
3. Mushrooms
Tomatoes are a berry fruit (not a vegetable). They’re rich in vitamin C and “lycopene”, which is a carotenoid. Carotenoids are pigments produced by plants and give vegetables their bright colours. The researchers found people who did this had reduced blood levels of triglycerides (a type of fat in your blood that increases heart disease risk), as well as lower total and “bad” cholesterol levels, compared to those who didn’t have any tomatoes.
Mushrooms are rich in nutrients with strong antioxidant properties. The body’s usual processes create oxidative stress, which generates “free radicals”. These are small particles that damage cells walls and cause the cells to die. If these aren’t neutralised by antioxidants, they can trigger inflammation, contribute to ageing and development of some cancers.
Pumpkin is rich in beta-carotene, which is also a carotenoid (plant pigment). It gets converted into vitamin A in the body and is used in the production of antibodies that fight infection. It’s also needed to maintain the integrity of cells in eyes, skin, lungs and the gut.
A review of ten studies tested the effects on blood sugar and insulin levels from eating intact oat kernels, thick rolled oats or quick rolled oats compared to refined grains. These found eating intact oat kernels and thick rolled oats led to significant reductions in blood glucose and insulin responses, but not after eating quick rolled oats.

H
umans are diurnal, which means exposure to natural light is crucial to our wellbeing. Mental and physical health gets supported by viewing light through the eyes which then gets transmitted to all parts of the body. Sitting in the sun, or even exposure to natural sunlight on a daily basis, has more benefits than just helping boost vitamin D levels.
Better sleep
A 2014 study by the National Library of Medicine titled Optimal Schedules of Light Exposure for Rapidly Correcting Circadian Misalignment found the best way to adjust to a new time zone is by exposing yourself to the sunlight in the morning. It helps keep your circadian rhythm in harmony as natural light signals your body to wake up and sets your internal clock in motion. This, in turn, also helps you sleep at night as melatonin, triggered by darkness, is released.
Weight loss
Exposure to sunlight in the AM has also been associated with a lower body mass index, according to a 2014 study published
in Plos One journal, titled ‘Timing and Intensity of Light Correlate with Body Weight in Adults‘. Mass index is a measure that takes weight and height into account. This was also attributed to better sleep cycles which is important in one’s weight loss and management journey. One of the best ways to burn calories as well as get some sun is to take your workout outdoors in the morning, or going for a brisk walk.
Eye health
Getting moderate amount of light during teen and young adult years has been proven to lessen the risks of near-sightedness, says a 2016 study published by Michigan State University titled The Benefit of Daylight for Our Eyesight.

BJP’s Attempt to Save Face By Inducting Mulayam’s Daughter-in-Law May Well Fall Short
Aparna Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law, being greeted by BJP national president J.P. Nadda, at BJP HQ in New Delhi, Wednesday, January 19, 2022. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, UP Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and its BJP state chief Swatantra Dev Singh are also present.

ven as the Samajwadi Party was caught in a family feud ahead of the 2017 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, with party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav on one end and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on the other, Aparna Yadav, Mulayam’s second daughter-in-law, had drawn attention. As Akhilesh was pulling strings in the party to get total control, Mulayam had decided to stay away from the election campaign. The only time he came out to address a rally was for Aparna, who was contesting from Lucknow Cantt against Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the former Pradesh Congress president who had switched over to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the run-up to the polls. In the rally, he made an emotional appeal to the crowd to support Aparna, his daughter-in-law, and asked people to think of their vote for Aparna as not a mandate for SP but for an integral member of his family.

HiIndia Newsdesk
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said visitors to Australia who enter on a student or working holiday visa will get a rebate on their application fee, in an attempt to incentivize them to fill some of the country’s “critical workforce shortages”. Australia’s government will give visa rebates to students and backpackers who want to come to the country, in a bid to get them to fill a record number
of job vacancies caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said visitors to Australia who enter on a student or a working holiday visa will get a rebate on their application fee. Morrison said he hoped the new arrivals would be able to help fill some of Australia’s “critical workforce shortages,” particularly in hospitality and agriculture. “My message to them is ‘Come on down. Come on down now,’” Morrison said at a press conference in Canberra on Wednesday. Australia’s economy has come under increasing pressure in recent months following a widespread outbreak of the Omicron Covid-19 variant. Workers made to isolate as a result of catching the virus have sparked supply shortages across the country, leaving some supermarket shelves empty. A number of food and logistics firms were reporting between 10% and 50% of their employees were away from work on any given day.

Sania Mirza To Retire After This Season HiIndia Newsdesk
India tennis ace Sania Mirza said she is planning to retire after the current season. “There’s a few reasons for it. It’s not as simple as ‘okay I’m not going to play’. I do feel my recovery is taking longer, I’m putting my 3-year-old son at risk by travelling so much with him, that’s something I have to take into account. I think my body is wearing down. My knee was really hurting today and I’m not saying that’s the reason we lost but I do think that it is taking time to recover as I’m getting older,” said Sania

The restriction does not apply to international cargo flights, those approved by the DGCA and flights from countries with which India has entered into an air bubble arrangement.
Foreign flights ban till Feb 28 HiIndia Newsdesk
The suspension of scheduled international passenger flights in the country has been extended till February 28, aviation regulator D GCA said on Wednesday. Scheduled international passenger flights have been suspended in India since March 23, 2020. However, special passenger flights have been operating between India and approximately 40 countries since July 2020 under air bubble arrangements formed with them. In a circular on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated: “The competent authority has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of February 28, 2022.” This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flight specifically approved by the DGCA, it mentioned. Fights under air bubble arrangement will not be affected, it noted.

Tweaks In BJP’s UP Seat Strategy Follow Rash Of Defections HiIndia Newsdesk
While the BJP has declared 107 candidates for the 403-seat assembly that begin voting in seven phases starting February 10 with results on March 10, discussions are still underway for others. New Delhi: With just a few weeks to go for the Uttar Pradesh elections, the ruling BJP is busy making changes to its seat distribution strategy - being more generous with its allies as well as incumbent legislators than earlier planned, sources in the party have said. While it has announced 107 candidates for the 403-seat assembly, discussions are still underway for others. UP votes in seven
phases starting February 10 with results on March 10. The BJP, which had earlier planned to drop as many as 100-150 MLAs, now finds itself in a spot after a string of defections led by former minister SP Maurya that has seen two more ministers and a clutch of MLAs switch sides to its main challenger Samajwadi Party.
AAP Picks Bhagwant Mann For Punjab, Says He Scored 93% In Televote
New Covid Treatment Guidelines:
Test For Tuberculosis If Cough Persists HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
Mohali: Bhagwant Mann is Aam Aadmi Party (AAP’s) chief ministerial candidate for Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal said today in a dramatic reveal of the results of the televoting drive in which people were asked to phone in their choice for the top post. Bhagwant Mann, a two-time AAP MP from Sangrur, received more than 93 per cent of the votes cast through phone and WhatsApp, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal told reporters. More than 21 lakh people participated in the vote, AAP said. Around 3 per cent votes were in the name of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mr Kejriwal shared. Some even chose Mr Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, but those votes were considered invalid.
China’s Race In Winter To Finish Illegal Bridge Over Pangong HiIndia Newsdesk
Satellite images indicate that the bridge could be complete in a few months, giving China an edge in the area.
New Delhi: A new Chinese bridge being constructed across the Pangong Lake is now more than 400 metres long and once completed, will give Beijing a significant military edge in an area which has been a key flash-point between India and China in Eastern Ladakh. The bridge, which is 8 metres wide, lies just south of a Chinese army field base on the North Bank of Pangong where Chinese field hospitals and troop accommodations were seen during the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020. The construction of the bridge across the Pangong, first identified by The Print earlier this month, and shown here for the first time in high-resolution satellite imagery, gives Chinese forces the ability to quickly mobilise soldiers to either bank of the Lake.
The revised COVID-19 treatment guidelines spelt out the conditions for mild, moderate and severe disease. New Delhi: Doctors should avoid giving steroids to COVID-19 patients and advise tuberculosis tests if their cough persists, the government has said in its revised clinical guidelines for coronavirus treatment, days after its task force chief expressed regret for the overuse of the drug during the second wave. The revised guidelines said that drugs like steroids can increase the risk of a secondary infection like invasive mucormycosis or ‘black fungus’, when used too early, at a higher dose or for longer than required. Spelling out the doses for the drugs if necessary for three kinds of infections - “mild, moderate and severe”, the guidelines said that if cough persists for more than two-three weeks, patients should be tested for tuberculosis and other conditions.
