Three US men guilty of murdering black jogger HiIndia Newsdesk
Three white men have been found guilty of killing a black jogger last year in a case that became a rallying cry to racial justice protesters. Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was shot on 23 February 2020 in a confrontation with Travis and Gregory McMichael and their neighbour, William Bryan. The defendants said they acted in self-defence during a citizen's arrest; prosecutors said race was a factor. The men now face minimum sentences of life in prison. A mainly white jury of 12 people deliberated for
Pentagon to study UFO sightings in restricted US airspace HiIndia Newsdesk
US defence officials have announced the launch of a task force to investigate reports of unidentified flying objects in restricted airspace. The group will assess objects of interest and "mitigate any associated threats", the Pentagon said on Tuesday. A highly anticipated military report in June failed to explain dozens of reported UFO sightings and warned of possible national security risks. The new group will be overseen by top military and intelligence leaders.
Apple digital-ID scheme delayed to 2022 HiIndia Newsdesk
Apple's much promoted digital driver's licence feature is now to be delayed to early 2022. Announced in September, the scheme will allow residents in eight US states to store state IDs and driver's licences inside the Apple Wallet app on their iPhone. The delay follows Apple's announcement it was looking for "sole control" over how states rolled out the feature. Reports have stated the new feature will come at a cost to the taxpayer. The delay was first noticed on an update to Apple's iOS 15 page, by technology website MacRumors. Apple has not provided a specific release date for the feature beyond the early 2022 timeframe. And there is conflicting information on the company's site, with the software's All New Features page still stating the ID feature is coming in "late 2021".
Travis McMichael (from left); his father, Gregory McMichael; and William "Roddie" Bryan have been on trial over the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man who was fatally shot while out for a run last year in Georgia.
about 10 hours before returning their verdict at around midday on Wednesday. The trio were found guilty of murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal intent to commit a felony. n February the three men will face another trial in a federal hate crimes case, alleging that they targeted Arbery because he was black.
US restricts trade with a dozen more Chinese technology firms HiIndia Newsdesk
The US government has added a dozen more Chinese companies to its restricted trade list, citing national security and foreign policy concerns.
Washington says that some of the firms are helping develop the Chinese military's quantum computing programme. This latest move comes as tensions grow between the US and China over the status of Taiwan and other issues. Trade was among the items discussed at a virtual summit between the leaders of both countries earlier this month. Eight Chinese-based technology firms were added to the so-called "Entity List" for their alleged role in assisting the Chinese military's quantum computing efforts and acquiring or attempting "to acquire US origin-items in support of military applications". This entity list has increasingly been used for national security reasons since the previous Trump administration. The US Commerce Department also said 16 individuals and entities operating in China and Pakistan were added to the list due to their involvement in "Pakistan's unsafeguarded nuclear activities or ballistic missile program."
Mission to smash into FBI calls dealing with Dimorphos space rock ‘Havana Syndrome’ a top priority launches HiIndia Newsdesk
A spacecraft has launched on a mission to test technology that could one day tip a dangerous asteroid off course. Nasa's Dart mission wants to see how difficult it would be to stop a sizeable space rock from hitting Earth. The spacecraft will crash into an object called Dimorphos to see how much its speed and path can be altered. If a chunk of cosmic debris measuring a few hundred metres across were to collide with our planet, it could unleash continent-wide devastation. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Dart spacecraft blasted off at 06:20 GMT on Wednesday from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It is the first attempt to deflect an asteroid for the purpose of learning how to protect Earth, though this particular asteroid presents no threat.

The FBI said on Wednesday that dealing with the issue of “anomalous health incidents” – widely known as Havana Syndrome – is a top priority and that it will keep investigating the cause and how to protect staff. About 200 U.S. diplomats, officials and family members overseas are believed to have been struck by the mysterious ailment – with symptoms including migraines, nausea, memory lapses and dizziness. It was first reported among U.S. officials in the Cuban capital in 2016. “The issue of anomalous health incidents is a top priority for the FBI, as the protection, health and well-being of our employees and colleagues across the federal government is paramount,” the agency said in a statement.

Shah asks industries to invest in Northeast HiIndia Newsdesk
Addressing the annual session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce virtually, Union Home Minister adds peace has been restored in the region in the last seven years Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asked industries to invest in the Northeast and said the Narendra Modi government has created a conducive environment for the industrial growth of the region. Addressing the annual session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce virtually, Shah said peace has been restored in the Northeast in the last seven years, militancy has come to an end and there is political stability in all the eight states in the region. He said massive development work has been going on in the Northeast, infrastructure has been improved a lot, road, rail and air connectivity has also been improved. By 2024, the Modi government will connect capitals of all the eight states by air, seven of the
eight state capitals will be connected through rail, and a network of roads is operational. "Time has come to invest in the Northeast, empower the Northeast, give a boost to the Northeast and bring the Northeast into the nation's development trajectory," Shah said. The home minister said he understood that making investment is a big issue for any businessman but the Modi government has created an environment for investment in the Northeast with proper infrastructure. He assured the industries that all the state governments will cooperate if they come to invest in the region. Shah said there are opportunities in sectors like tourism, Information Technology, agriculture and organic food, which the industries can explore in the Northeast.
Cabinet nod a formality: Farmers HiIndia Newsdesk
Farmer leaders on Wednesday described the Union cabinet approval for a bill repealing the contentious farm laws as “just a formality” and asked the government to resolve their other demands, such as legally guaranteed minimum support prices for crops. They welcomed the cabinet decision but said this was only the farmers’ first victory and that their agitation would go on. The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, approved after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the three laws would be revoked, is to be introduced in the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament, which begins on November 29. “Today’s cabinet approval of a bill repealing the three farm laws, of which the announcement had already been made by Prime Minister Modi, was just a formality,” Shiv Kumar “Kaka” of the Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh (RKM) told PTI. “It is just a process. Now, what we want from the government is to take up our other demands. Ideally, after they finally decided to repeal the laws they should have had another round of talks with us during which we would have discussed the MSP issue as well. This way the government could have gone ahead with both the bills — repealing the farm laws and legalising MSP — simultaneously.”

At least 31 people dead after boat capsizes in English Channel

EU public health agency, recommended vaccine boosters for all adults, with priority for those over 40, in a major shift of policy Coronavirus infections broke records on Wednesday in parts of Europe, once again the epicentre of a pandemic which has prompted new curbs on movement and made health experts think again about booster vaccination shots. Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary all reported new highs in daily infections as winter grips the continent and people gather indoors in the run-
up to Christmas, providing a perfect breeding ground for Covid-19. The disease has swept the world in the two years since it was first identified in central China, infecting more than 258 million people and killing 5.4 million. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the EU public health agency, recommended vaccine boosters for all adults, with priority for those over 40, in a major shift of policy.

At least 31 people died on Wednesday after their dinghy capsized while crossing the Channel from France to Britain, in the worst disaster on record involving migrants in the waters separating the countries. The Channel is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes and currents are strong. Overloaded dinghies often barely stay afloat and are at the mercy of waves as they try to reach British shores.\ One fisherman called the rescue services after seeing an empty dinghy and people floating motionless nearby. Franck Dhersin, deputy head of regional transport and mayor of Teteghem on the northern French coast told Reuters that the death toll had reached 31 and that two people were still missing.

'Impossible to stop everybody crossing': French official
HiIndia Newsdesk
It is "impossible" to prevent people from leaving the French coast for the UK, a French official has said. Franck Dhersin, vice-president of transport in the Hauts-de-France region, which includes the ports of Calais and Dunkirk, told the BBC's World Tonight programme that law enforcement officials were fighting a losing battle to stop migrants making the crossing. "The police and the gendarmerie stop hundreds of boats each day, but there are many, many, many boats. It's impossible along the coast between Boulognesur-Mer and Dunkirk - it's 100km. "It's impossible to stop everybody and when they are stopped they make the trip another time, the day after." He added: "It's impossible to say: 'Don't cross the British Channel - it's forbidden, it's too dangerous.' No, they have only one idea - to go to England."
Germany has already held an official commemoration event to honor its Covid-19 dead. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the federal president, met with families of victims in April. At that point, the death toll was just over 70,000. Weeks later, he made remarks as the number climbed to 80,000. “The burden of the pandemic is exhausting and we struggle with finding the right way forward. That’s why we need a moment to pause,” he said at the time. “We should just think about the 100,000 dead, but also those who died from loneliness in the first wave. Or those who died because a cancer treatment had to be postponed,” Dirk Pöschmann, the museum director, told DW.
Australia to send Eight civilians killed in peacekeeping Somalia explosion troops amid riots HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
Australia has said it will send peace keeping troops to Solomon Islands as riots rocked the capital city of Honiara for a second day. The violence began on Wednesday when protestors stormed parliament in a bid to topple PM Manasseh Sogavare. The rioting crowds set fire to government buildings, a police station and businesses in Chinatown. Australian prime minister Scott Morrison said the troops would provide stability and security. He added that he had received a request for assistance from Mr Sogavare.
The blast occurred during the morning rush hour
Local news repor ts say a car bomb targeted an African Union peacekeeping convoy close to a busy junction in the Hodan district in the north-west of the city.
Police in Somalia have confirmed the death of eight civilians in a car bombing in the capital, state television has reported. Some 17 other people have been wounded, including 13 children from a school near the blast scene. An al-Shabab suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden vehicle targeted a convoy of a private security firm, Duguf, in Mogadishu. The police did not say if UN staff were hurt in the attack. Local media reports said the blast occurred during the morning rush hour near the busy Kilometre Four junction. The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab militants have confirmed carrying out the attack. Pro-al-Shabab media sources said the militants targeted “white military officers”. Al-Shabab frequently targets security forces and government officials in

F
or years, Mukesh Ambani has studied the ways in which billionaire families, from the Waltons to the Kochs, passed on what they'd built to the next generation. Recently, that process has intensified, with Asia's richest man eyeing a blueprint for the next stage of his $208 billion empire that seeks to avert the succession warfare that's torn apart so many wealthy clans - including his own. The 64-year-old Indian tycoon's favored plan shares elements with that of Walmart Inc.'s Walton family, people familiar with the matter say, and could provide the framework for one of the biggest transfers of wealth in recent times. Ambani is considering moving his family's holdings into a trust-like structure that will control the Mumbai-listed flagship Reliance Industries Ltd., the people said, asking not to be identified on a topic they're not authorized to discuss publicly. Ambani, his wife Nita, and three children will have stakes in the new entity overseeing Reliance and be on its board, along with a few of Ambani's long-term confidantes as advisers. Management, though, will largely be entrusted to outsiders, professionals who will handle the day-to-day operations of India's most influential company and its businesses that span oil refining and petrochemicals to telecommunications, e-commerce and green energy. The stakes are high. Of the more than 1,000 publiclylisted family-owned or founded companies tracked by Credit Suisse globally, the clans of Asia dominate, with a combined market value of about $5.8 trillion. The total wealth of India's family empires is valued at some $1.5 trillion alone, fueled by the opening up of the economy over the past 10 years. While Ambani hasn't publicly disclosed any plan to step away from his responsibilities as Reliance's chairman and managing director, his children are becoming more visible. Addressing shareholders this June, Ambani gave the first indication his offspring twins Akash and Isha, 30, and Anant, 26 - will play significant roles at Reliance. "I have no doubt whatsoever that the next generation of leaders at Reliance, led by Isha, Akash and Anant,

The magnate is drawn to the way the family behind Walmart managed the transfer of control after the death of founder Sam Walton in 1992, the people familiar with his thinking said. The Walton family model reflects unusual prescience on the part of founder Sam, who built the now global giant from a handful of five-and-dime stores. He started preparing for succession in 1953 - almost 40 years before he died - by passing 80% of the family business to his four children: Alice, Rob, Jim and John. That minimized estate taxes and helped the family retain control even as the company grew into

"The fact that the family owns close to 50% of the company means that the managers they hire know where the real power lies," Lichtenstein said. t's clear Ambani's children are already being groomed for greater prominence. The twins played pivotal roles in the company's shift toward retail and technology, including talks with the Facebook Inc., now Meta Platforms Inc., that secured a $5.7 billion investment by the social-media giant in Reliance's Jio Platforms Ltd., the vessel for Ambani's e-commerce ambitions. Anant is a director at Jio Platforms Ltd., the oil and chemicals business, as well as the renewable energy units of Reliance. "What Ambani is doing is quite rare," said Peng at the Tanoto Center in Hong Kong, referring to his forward planning. "Normally these patriarchs hold onto it all until the last minute. HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi,: Australia on Monday announced easing of its stringent pandemic-related travel restrictions from next month, a decision that is expected to help thousands of Indian students return to that country. From December 1, fully vaccinated eligible visa holders, including students and skilled workers, can come to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption, a statement by the Australian government said. It said the visitor would have to be fully vaccinated with a "completed dosage" of a vaccine approved or recognised by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and hold a valid visa for one of the eligible visa subclasses. The travellers will also have to provide proof of their vaccination status and present a negative Covid Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test taken within three days of departure for Australia. The statement said travellers to Australia must comply with the quarantine requirements in the territory of their arrival.

New Delhi,: Next time if you see shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa c omp e t e i n an i nt e r n at i on a l tournament, the flag on the back of his jacket could be the Maple Leaf Flag of Canada instead of the Indian Tricolour. Bajwa, who represented India at the Tokyo Olympics in skeet, has received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) to represent Canada. It is understood that the shooting body received a request from Bajwa over a month back. Bajwa’s family is settled in Canada, where his father Gurpal Singh has a flourishing business. Other than getting back to the family environment that he so craved, the move will also help Bajwa to train with his current coach and three-time Olympics gold medallist Vincent Hancock, who stays in the USA. Neither Bajwa nor his father was available for comments. NRAI secretary general K Sultan Singh said the decision to grant Bajwa the NOC was taken as the athlete has shifted base and will not be available for the federation’s training and competition schedule.
Singapore has reached an agreement with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation on the resumption of scheduled commercial passenger flights between the two countries, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said on November 21. Singapore's vaccinated travel lane (VTL) with India will start on November 29, with six designated flights daily from Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai, it said. Applications for vaccinated travel passes (VTP) for short-term visitors and long-term pass holders from India will start on Monday. Airlines can also operate non-VTL flights between India and Singapore, although passengers on non-VTL flights will be subject to the prevailing public health requirements, CAAS said. "CAAS understands that travellers are looking forward to the launch of the VTL and would like to assure travellers that there is no need to rush to apply for the VTP," Channel News Asia reported, citing the authority.
Bathinda,: After massive floods devastated the British Columbia province in Canada, the Sikh community has come out in support of the affected people by way of providing food and other essential commodities to people. Volunteers from Surrey's Dukh Nivaran Sahib Gurdwara are pulling out all the stops to make sure people stranded by washouts, mudslides and floods don't go hungry. They are even renting out a helicopter to deliver meals and other supplies to affected communities. In Surrey, volunteers at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib cooked more than 3,000 meals for travellers who were stranded in Hope because of the double mudslides that came down on Highway 7. The meals were shipped by a helicopter as per volunteer Amarjit Singh Dhadwar.

Indian-origin man sentenced to 8 years corrective training, caning in Singapore HiIndia Newsdesk
Singapore: A 26-year-old Indian-origin man was on Monday sentenced by a Singapore court to eight years of corrective training and 24 strokes of the cane for supplying weapons, including a baton and a samurai sword, that were used in a serious slashing incident in 2018. Arjun Retnavelu was also sentenced to an extra 360 days in jail for reoffending while on remission, TODAY newspaper reported. The court sentenced Arjun to eight years of corrective training. He was also sentenced to 24 strokes of the cane, the paper said. Corrective training is a more serious form of imprisonment imposed when a court finds that an offender needs training of a corrective character for a substantial period. It usually lasts between five and 14 years, and the offender is unlikely to be given early release for factors such as good behaviour.

Encroachment in lake and sewage drains led to flooding : CM B. Bommai HiIndia Newsdesk
“The width of the rajakaluves need to be widened from the present 8-10 feet to 30 feet. Necessary measures would be taken for smooth flow of flood waters in the rajakaluves,” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said. Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday vowed to step into the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly again only after returning to power. In an emotion-filled tone, the Leader of the Opposition said in the House that he was pained by the continuous slur on him by the ruling YSR Congress members. “For the last two and a half years, I have been bearing the insults but remained calm. Today, they have targeted even my wife. I was always lived with honour and for honour. I can take it no more,” Naidu said. Though he continued to speak, Speaker Tammineni Seetaram cut the mike even as the ruling party members called Naidu’s remarks a “drama”. The former Chief Minister vented his frustration following an acrimonious exchange of words between the two sides in the House during a short discussion on the farm sector.

Hyderabad Zoo Staff Rescue Man From African Lion's Moat Area
With many parts in Bengaluru north affected due to water logging and floods, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who visited several places, said encroachments on lakes and drains have led to the flooding. After visiting Kendriya Vihar apartment in Yelahanka, Manyata Tech Park in Nagawara and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre For Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Jakkur, he said the heavy rains is one of the factors but lake encroachment and rajakaluve (Sewage drains) encroachment led the disaster. “The problem had its source at Yelahanka lake which is connected to 11 more lakes upstream. Supreme Court Rejects Plea Big third wave Against Central Vista unlikely, say experts “Will we start asking the common man now where will the residence of the Vice President be?” the court asked.
New Delhi: A petition that claims the Central Vista Redevelopment Project will impact a “public recreational” zone was dismissed by the Supreme Court today as it stressed, “everything can be criticised but there should be constructive criticism.” “It’s not (a) private property being created there. The Vice President’s residence is being created.
There is bound to be greenery around. The plan has already been approved by authorities unless you are alleging malafide in that process,” Justice AM Khanwilkar said during the hearing in a series of tough remarks. “Will we start asking the common man now where will the residence of the Vice President be?” he further asked The project involves a do-over of a 3.2 km stretch in the heart of Delhi - designed by the British before Independence - at the cost of Rs.20,000 crore. In his petition, social activist Rajeev Suri had said that land use in some areas was changed from “public recreational” to “residential” for the project. He argued that it would affect the area currently meant for public recreation.

Ahead of the first Test, Gambhir speaking on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’, said that he will like to see Shubman Gill come in at the No.4 position with Mayank Agarwal opening the innings along with KL Rahul. “I am going to open with Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul because he had opened in England. And then probably Shubman Gill will bat at No.4. That is what I would want to see. Rahane is pretty fortunate that he is still part of this side because he is probably still leading. The kind of England series he has had. But he has another opportunity now and hopefully he can make that count,” Gambhir said.

‘Hybrid’ immunity, vaccination behind low Covid cases Covid cases may rise, perhaps across late December-February, but the impact of will be milder than what India experienced in the second wave when thousands died and many thousands more were hospitalised. It may not take off in a coordinated manner across the country, provided no far more transmissible variant comes along, explained Gautam Menon, professor, Departments of Physics and Biology, Ashoka University, in Sonepat. Several epidemiologists had predicted a third wave peaking in October and November because of large gatherings in the festive season, which includes Durga Puja and Diwali. But the much feared spike thankfully hasn’t happened. On Tuesday, India recorded 7,579 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 543 days, taking the country’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,45,26,480, while active cases were the lowest in 536 days, according to Union Health Ministry data. The daily rise in new infections has been below 20,000 for 46 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 149 consecutive days. What it suggests is that the impact of the second wave, where a substantial fraction of Indians were infected, continues to manifest itself, Menon told PTI. In addition, a stepped-up vaccination campaign has meant that more people are protected against severe disease, hospitalisation, and death, he added.

An Indian American neuro interventional radiologist Dr Suresh Reddy has been appointed as the president of the Indian American Medical Association of Illinois. Dr Reddy was appointed in a ceremony held at Oakbrook, Illinois. The event was attended by dignitaries including Consul General of India in Chicago Amit Kumar, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Illinois state Representative Deanne Mazzochi. Reddy, a Chicago area resident, is also the trustee of the Village of Oak Brook. He is also lead chief of radiology for the states of Illinois and Wisconsin Veterans Administration.
Anil Ghanwat, one of the members of the Supreme Court committee on the farm laws, appealed to the apex court on Tuesday to release the panel’s report. In a letter to the Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, Ghanwat said, “After the Government’s decision to repeal the farm laws in the coming Winter Session of the Parliament, the Committee’s report is no longer relevant with regard to those laws but there are suggestions in the report on farmers’ issues that are of great public interest.”
He added, “The report can also play an educational role and ease the misapprehensions of many farmers who have, in my opinion, been misguided by some leaders who do not seem to appreciate how a minimally regulated free market can allocate national resources to their most productive use.” In the letter, Ghanwat has also requested the Supreme Court to direct the government to implement a robust policy process. Addressing a press conference on the issue on Tuesday, Ghanwat said, “We should have a policy that is in the interest of farmers and does not distort the market.” Ghanwat, who is a senior leader of Shetkari Sanghatana, added that in the next 2-3 months, he would travel across the country and over 1 lakh farmers will gather in support of reforms in the agriculture sector. He further said that the demand for a guarantee of the minimum support price is not feasible at the moment. On January 12 this year, the Supreme Court, while staying implementation of three farm laws, had constituted a committee to look into these laws. The committee submitted its report on March 13, 2021, but its yet to be made public

Kangana faces FIR for post against Sikhs HiIndia Newsdesk

Domestic flights - similarly restricted during the Covid lockdown - were allowed at full capacity from October, after also having been restricted initially
New Delhi: International flight operations are expected to return to normal “by the end of the year”, Rajiv Bansal, the Aviation Ministry Secretary, was quoted by news agency PTI on Wednesday. All international flights (except those on repatriation missions and carrying essential goods, like medicines and food) were grounded in March last year, as the country went into a Covid lockdown.
Restrictions were eased once the number of cases dropped and as vaccination coverage increased, with ‘air bubble’ arrangements negotiated with other countries. India currently has 25 such deals. Under an air bubble arrangement, international passenger flights can be operated by member countries’ respective carriers into each other’s territories, subject to certain conditions. Last week Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the government was evaluating the process of normalising international flight ops. He said that while the government was keen for things to return to normal, it would take measures to guard against a renewed wave of coronavirus infections, particularly since several major European nations have recorded frightening surge in daily new cases.

The farmers have been protesting at the Delhi borders for almost a year. They refuse to vacate the protest sites till the laws are formally repealed in parliament. New Delhi: A bill to withdraw the three controversial farm laws was cleared by the Union Cabinet today. “It will be our priority to take back these three laws in the upcoming session of parliament,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur said at a cabinet briefing, adding that the “formalities have been completed”. Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a stunning U-turn, announced the cancellation of the three agricultural laws and urged the protesting farmers to return to their homes. “In the Parliament session starting the end of this month, we will complete the process of repealing the three laws,” PM Modi had said in an address to the nation. Before the big climbdown, the Prime Minister defended the laws saying they were meant as reforms, mainly for small and marginal farmers in the country. “Whatever I did was for farmers. What I am doing is for the country.” The farmers have been protesting at the Delhi borders for almost a year. Rakesh Tikait, a top farmer leader, said the protesters would wait till the laws were formally repealed in the winter session of parliament starting on November 29.
New Zealand has unveiled its plans to reopen borders and will allow foreigners to enter next year. Fully vaccinated visitors can enter from 30 April, and will have to self-isolate for seven days upon arrival. More New Zealanders will be allowed to travel home from early next year as well, under similar rules. The move eases strict curbs that have locked out many citizens and tourists since borders were slammed shut at the start of the Covid pandemic. Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins outlined the staged re-opening plans on Monday, calling it “the safest approach to ensure risk is carefully managed”.
Security has been beefed up outside the residence of BJP MP Gautam Gambhir here after he received an alleged death threat from “ISIS Kashmir “, officials said on Wednesday. Not concerned about my form: Rahane HiIndia Newsdesk

Film awards in India can build credibility too : Nawazuddin Siddiqui Ahead of International Emmy, Best Actor nominee Nawazuddin for Serious Men lauds global awards for honouring merit; says Indian award galas must take a cue
N
ew York can be an intimidating/ overwhelming city for most people. Evidently not for the perennially unfazed, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. As we watch him, like in his films, merging into the Manhattan crowd — an Everyman, as it were, only on occasion disturbed by desi selfieseekers; he generously obliges, while you can tell, he’d rather not! Sometimes reticent to a fault (as with interviews as well), no point asking if the atheist Nawaz is going to do a special namaz (prayer), leading up to the International Emmy — the Olympics of world television — where he is nominated for Best Actor (film/series) for Sudhir Mishra’s Serious Men, a Netflix production. This automatically puts his performance among the year’s best in movies and series, across streaming services and network TV worldwide. “Nomination is a good enough measure for your choice of film, since the world is recognising it,” Nawaz says.
‘This is not Kartik 2.0 but …’
Even Emmy is not new for him, though: “I actually held that trophy [on the stage], when McMafia won [the Best Drama Series in 2019].” He adds, “This silsila [or procession, in a red-carpet sense] really began with Cannes in 2012. That was the first time in my life, I found myself surrounded by people from across the world, who only spoke of art and creativity. That’s when I decided to do at least one film every year, just so I can participate in such a mahaul [environment]. I was just fascinated by this world. The other world started making less [sense] to me.” With the other world, maybe the reference is to similar film awards in Mumbai, that aren’t so similar, actually! “Well, the point is that Emmy, Oscars, or Cannes have built their credibility over decades — by being only interested in rewarding pure artistic merit. We’ve also had film awards for as long. But one hears, lately in the news, that they’re actually sold out. What happens as a result is that [the performers themselves] start taking these [award shows] for granted. Although if they want, the Indian film awards can build on credibility as well. I guess the money involved is too huge. Which is all fine, but creativity should be nurtured and protected too. It’s not necessary to turn everything into a dhanda!”

Have you heard? Amitabh Bachchan sends legal notice to pan masala brand
Amitabh Bachchan has sent a legal notice to a paan masala company for airing commercials featuring him after he stepped down as brand ambassador. Last month, on his 79th birthday, he ended his contract and had returned the money he received. Big B’s move followed the backlash for endorsing a product harmful to health. The veteran superstar wasn’t aware that it “falls under surrogate advertising”. In September, the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication appealed to Bachchan to not promote paan masala.
It’s finally over
The filmmaker, who entered Bollywood as a Chief Assistant Director, candidly shared that in the 90s, at the start of his film journey, his salary was just Rs 35. The actor mentioned that his family’s financial condition was not good. Rohit Shetty’s father was also an action director, but he said that his journey was not an easy one. The director shared how he had to sometimes choose between travel and food at times.
As Kartik Aaryan celebrates his birthday today, he opens up about his Netflix release Dhamaka, directed by Ram Madhvani. The actor spoke about consciously picking good scripts, making his OTT debut and 'Kartik 2.0'. Actor Kartik Aaryan says he can never be a news reporter in real life. “I don’t know how to balance my personal and professional life because you’re always on your toes. I have gotten that immense respect for journalism,” he exclusively told indianexpress.com. Kartik plays the role of a news anchor in his latest release Dhamaka which is streaming on Netflix. The actor, who is getting a lot of appreciation for his performance, is also celebrating his birthday today. Kartik’s Arjun Pathak is caught between a call with an unknown bomber who demands him to do certain things, and the race for ratings for his channel. In the midst, he also sports grey shades as an ambitious man who can go to any length to climb the ladder of success, manipulate and put emotions at stake. Calling it his most challenging role till date, Kartik gave a credit to director Ram Madhvani for holding him through the difficult scenes. “A lot was happening on set and it was something which would drain you as an actor, but there was Ram Madhvani sir who was always there,” he said. Dhamaka also happens to be Kartik’s first release on the OTT. He called it the “right film at the right time” due to the global reach the streaming platforms have. He added that the future is co-existence of theatres and digital medium.

Prashant Kishore Again As Trinamool Jolts Congress In Meghalaya Exodus HiIndia Newsdesk
Guwahati: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has given a long list of reasons why he and 11 of the 17 MLAs in the state have quit the Congress. For one, Mr Sangma lamented the Congress has failed in working as an effective opposition party. The announcement by Mr Sangma and the 11 MLAs that they would join the Trinamool Congress comes after months of festering disappointment over party colleague Vincent Pala being made Meghalaya Congress chief. Mr Sangma had then gone to Kolkata, where he met the Trinamool's election strategist Prashant Kishor for a "courtesy visit". However, as the events unfolded last night, that meeting likely served as a springboard for Mr Mukul to switch sides. Mr Kishor's election strategy team is in Meghalaya's capital Shillong to
prep the Trinamool for the 2023 assembly election. "There has to be equilibrium in democracy. We need an effective opposition. We have raised this to the leadership in Delhi. We have made many trips to Delhi, but nothing happened... While looking for options for an opposition space, I ended up meeting my good friend Prashant Kishor ji, whom we all know, who can make a difference. I'm very happy to disclose, when we interacted, we shared the same objective - interest of the people supersede everything," Mr Sangma said. "This is a culmination of our long analysis and due diligence as to how best we can serve our people and the nation... In 2018, we became the single-largest party, but for reasons known to all of us we could not form the government," Mr Sangma, flanked by the 11 other MLAs, told reporters today.

NEW YORK, NY- Thomas Jefferson’s banishment from New York City Hall is complete. Crews on Monday moved a statue of Jefferson from the Council Chambers where it stood for 184 years. The statue is headed to its new home at the New-York Historical Society after a public art board listened to objections about its position in the heart of the city government. Opponents argued that Jefferson, as a slaveholder, failed to heed his own words that “all men are created equal.” “This was a slaveholder who owned over 600 human beings,” said Council Member Adrienne Adams. But the statue’s removal was decried by largely conservative or far-right people on Twitter. GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw responded with a dig at New York City itself, courtesy of a quote from Jefferson himself. Kyle Becker, a conservative journalist, wrote the statue’s removal was not a condemnation of slavery, but of liberty. “Despite being a flawed man, Thomas Jefferson did more to emancipate mankind – including slaves – than anyone else of his era,” he tweeted. But not all of Twitter was opposed to the removal or saw it as a sign of historical revisionism. “Anyone who questions why this is happening and truly believes Thomas Jefferson is a good man should read his thoughts on slavery in ‘Notes on The State of Virginia’ it’s not even questionable, just disgusting,” one person tweeted.

CHICAGO, IL- The United States filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois today seeking to bar a Chicago area tax return preparer from preparing federal income tax returns for others. The complaint alleges that Melissa Gasca, individually and doing business as Su Familia Income Tax, and a related tax preparation business, FinancialPlus Services Inc., prepared nearly 5,000 federal income tax returns during 20172020, including over 900 returns in 2020. According to the complaint, in a substantial number of these tax returns, the defendants significantly overstated the customers’ tax refunds by falsely reporting inflated Form W-2 federal income tax withholdings. By rep eatedly understating her customers’ tax liabilities, the complaint alleges, Gasca and her tax preparation businesses caused the United States to lose over $5 million in tax revenue from
2017 to 2020. Acting Assistant Attorney General David A. Hubbert of the Justice Department’s Tax Division made the announcement. Return preparer fraud is one of the IRS’s Dirty Dozen Tax Scams and taxpayers seeking a return preparer should remain vigilant. The IRS has information on its website for choosing a tax return preparer and has launched a free directory of federal tax preparers. In the past decade, the Department of Justice Tax Division has obtained injunctions against hundreds of unscrupulous tax preparers. Information about these cases is available on the Justice Department’s website. An alphabetical listing of persons enjoined from preparing returns and promoting tax schemes can be found on this page. If you believe that one of the enjoined persons or businesses may be violating an injunction, please contact the Tax Division with details.

What to Know About COVID Vaccines for Children Ages 5 Through 11
773.526.8353 MIDWEST / EASTCOAST
“Ekal Foundation” Raises over $4 M HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
Why do children need to get vaccinated?
While children were less likely to get COVID-19 early in the pandemic compared with adults, kids now get the disease as often as adults. Some children develop serious COVID-19 symptoms requiring hospitalization. With the highly contagious Delta variant, 1 in 5 new COVID-19 cases have been in children and sometimes they have serious and long-term health effects.
What are the side effects for children?
Every person in the country 5 years old and older is now eligible to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Parents and caregivers face decisions about protecting their children from COVID-19 and have questions about vaccines. Read on for answers to questions that families have about making a COVID vaccination decision for their children.
Are the vaccines safe for children?
Parents should take comfort that the COVID-19 vaccines have undergone – and will continue to undergo – the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history. Robust clinical trials featuring thousands of children were conducted to evaluate the safety and immune response to a COVID vaccine in this age group. In the United States, the vaccine will be given in a smaller dose and is specially formulated for children in the 5-11 age group.
It’s very unlikely that COVID-19 vaccines will cause long-term health problems. The risk for serious health problems due to the vaccine is lower than the risk of health problems if they’re unvaccinated and get COVID-19. COVID-19 can leave children, as well as adults, with heart and lung damage and other conditions that require long-term treatment. The benefits from COVID-19 vaccines outweigh any potential risk from the vaccine. Getting your children vaccinated will give them the strongest possible protection from COVID-19.
Why should children get the vaccine now?
Vaccines are now available to protect more kids as they prepare to gather with family during the holidays, spend more time indoors due to cold weather, and continue going to school in person. Children who are getting sick from COVID-19 can also spread the virus to others, including older families who may live with them.
Where can I find a vaccine for my children?
Vaccines for kids ages 5 and older are now available through a range of providers, including pediatricians, family doctors, children’s hospitals, pharmacies, and community health centers. More than 25,000 pediatricians and primary care providers have enrolled to administer vaccines, and the numbers are growing. Tens of thousands of local pharmacies across the country in the federal pharmacy program offer vaccination for kids ages 5 through 11, as well as for adolescents and adults. COVID-19 vaccines are given at no cost.
Indian Overseas Congress, USA Post Pandemic Spectacular Pays Tributes to Pandit Nehru Diwali Celebrations in Atlanta HiIndia Newsdesk
QUEENS, NY- Indian Overseas Congress, USA paid their tributes to India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru in a meeting convened at the Santoor restaurant in Queens, New York, on his 132nd birth anniversary. November 14 is celebrated in India as Children’s Day as a mark of respect to Nehru. IOCUSA was continuing its tradition of honoring his great legacy as the architect of modern India on the same day. Mr. Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President of the IOCUSA, characterized Nehru administration after the hard-fought independence as a visionary one that laid an excellent foundation for an enduring democracy. His words and deeds inspire our generation to carry on with that vision of freedom and fraternity. Mr. George Abraham, a Vice-chairman, said, “What I admire most about him is his self-effacing service to India. He spent almost ten years of his life in prison, fighting for freedom and justice at a time when there was no assurance that it would happen in his lifetime. Among the founding fathers of modern India, Nehru alone had given serious thought to India’s place in the global community. He was able to educate the Indian populace on external affairs even before independence”.

Decisions came from purely thinking about team values
India's successful run India under coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli, especially in Test matches, wouldn’t have been possible without Bharat Arun, who made the Indian bowling something to be feared and envied. HiIndia Newsdesk
Shastri brought fearlessness and honesty. During his tenure, there was absolutely no agenda. The decisions might have been right or wrong, that is irrelevant, but they came from the right place, purely thinking about team values and what we stood for as a team. Honesty encompasses criticism, self-introspection. It was in telling the team that ‘accept that we messed up’. It helped us evolve the team.
Ravi told the importance of having a senior member like Dhoni in the team. It was about giving a lot of respect and he would definitely help him. Kohli understood that of course and it was a seamless transition. You could see the respect in the way Kohli would often let Dhoni handle little details and prowl on the boundary in ODIs. That kind of stuff can’t have happened without trust and respect. And Dhoni also saw he was given the space and responded so well.

After a near-two-year pandemic-forced hiatus, the world of hockey returns to a familiar playing ground: Bhubaneswar. This time, however, with an unmistakable difference. The cavernous Kalinga Stadium, normally buzzing on match eve, is stripped off its usual fanfare. There’s just a smattering of guards ensuring only those entitled enter this sprawling facility.
Suryakumar could get the nod ahead of Iyer HiIndia Newsdesk
In a separate enclosure of nets were Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai teammates. At least one of them would likely make their debut the day after. It was hard to tell who. Iyer was mostly facing spinners, without a cap, his flowing mane girdled by a hair bow. Yadav was batting with a bat that resembled a large plank of wood with wafer-thin edges. A little later, Yadav joined Ajinkya Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha at the main nets, while Iyer unstrapped his pads, did a bit of catching practice and began bowling his leg-breaks.
China has said the controversy surrounding tennis star Peng Shuai has been "maliciously hyped up", in its most direct response to the issue yet. Ms Peng disappeared from the public eye for almost three weeks after making sexual assault allegations against China's former vice premier, triggering widespread international concern. She has since re-appeared, but questions remain over her wellbeing. On Tuesday, China's foreign ministry said it was "not a diplomatic matter". "I believe you have all seen that she recently attended some public events and had a video call [with the president of the International Olympic Committee]," spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters. "I think some people should stop deliberately and maliciously hyping [the issue] up, let alone politicise this issue," he said. Ms Peng, 35, is one of China's top tennis players. In a 1,600-word post on Chinese social media platform Weibo earlier this month, she said former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli - who is 75 - had "forced" her to have sexual relations with him. "Even if it's just striking a stone with a pebble, or a moth attacking a flame and courting self destruction, I will tell the truth about you," she wrote. After sharing her post on Weibo, the tennis player was not heard or seen publicly for several weeks. Her safety became a matter of international concern, with prominent players including Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka joining calls from governments and tennis officials demanding to know she was safe.

Ashwin is an attacking option HiIndia Newsdesk
In three matches at the World Cup, the 35-year-old offie claimed six wickets at an economy rate of 5.25.
“He (Ashwin) is always an attacking option for his captain. When you have someone like him in the squad, it always gives you the opportunity to take wickets in the middle, and we understand how important that middle phase is. That’s where you need to put the brakes on run-rate and try keep taking wickets. Ashwin provides that in the middle, along with Axar (Patel),” India’s T20 captain said at the post-match press conference after a 3-0 clean sweep over New Zealand. Washington Sundar’s injury paved the way for
Ashwin’s return to the shortest format, as he was picked for the T20 World Cup. However, he wasn’t selected for the first two matches in the tournament, against Pakistan and New Zealand, and belatedly, on the heels of back-to-back defeats, Ashwin was included in the playing eleven for the game against Afghanistan.
Pujara said, "As far as my hundred is concerned, when it has to happen it will happen. My job is to bat well for the team and it's not that I haven't been getting runs. I have got 80s and 90s. As long as I am batting well and contributing for the team, I am not bothered about my hundred. It's matter of one innings." Vice-captain for the opening Test in Kanpur, with Ajinkya Rahane taking over captaincy duties in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli, Pujara said the designation wouldn't bring a lot of change to his role in the squad.

oth sources of carbohydrates, sometimes people consume them simultaneously. I bet most people often replace white rice with noodles, with the assumption that the calorie intake is not as high as when you consume rice with side dishes. Still, what are advantages and disadvantages of eating either carbohydrate?
Know the type of carbohydrate Before further discussing rice vs. noodles, its best to determine what constitutes a carbohydrate. Carbs are among nutrients needed by the body. They serve as a primary energy source. In the body, carbohydrates are converted to glucose, which then serves as fuel for our body cells. In consuming carbohydrates, according to Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, the type or quality of carbohydrate consumed is more important than the quantity you consume, so quality over quantity, folks. In general, there are two types of carbohydrates, simple and complex. Examples of simple carbohydrates are bread, pastries and cakes. These kinds of simple carbohydrates are also known as refined grains, meaning that these foods come from processed grains. The processing of those grains aims to increase the shelf life of the product, but at the same time resulting in many loss nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. This type of carbohydrate plays a major role in increasing your body weight and causing a fast increase in your blood sugar level, which may trigger insulin resistance in the long run, leading to diabetes mellitus. Meanwhile, complex carbohydrates are the healthier type of carbohydrate. Complex carbohydrates usually do not go through processing, or very little. Examples are whole wheat bread, quinoa, brown rice, black rice, cereals, grains, vegetables and fruits. This type of carbohydrate is rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients. Bad News for the Highly Intelligent
Superior IQs are associated with mental and physical disorders, research suggests.
In a study just published in the journal Intelligence, Pitzer College researcher Ruth Karpinski and her colleagues emailed a survey with questions about psychological and physiological disorders to members of Mensa. A “high IQ society,” Mensa requires that its members have an IQ in the top 2 percent. The survey of Mensa’s highly intelligent members found that they were more likely to suffer from a range of serious disorders. The survey covered mood disorders (depression, dysthymia and bipolar), anxiety disorders (generalized, social and obsessive-compulsive), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. It also covered environmental allergies, asthma and autoimmune disorders. Respondents were asked to report whether they had ever been formally diagnosed with each disorder or suspected they suffered from it. With a return rate of nearly 75 percent, Karpinski and her colleagues compared the percentage of the 3,715 respondents who reported each disorder to the national average.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja starts a new chapter in fashion
The conjurer of iconic looks, one who can pull off pretty much any ensemble, and never shies away from experimenting, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s wardrobe has always been an object of envy. From her jaw-dropping red carpet looks at Cannes to never missing the memo of airport fashion, the Aisha actor has been there and done it all. Yet, she continues to push her envelope, establishing herself among the world’s fashion elite and a sartorial force to be reckoned with. Bolder than ever, she is never not making waves with her boundary-pushing outfits. As such, her recent Egyptian goddess-like look in a Vivienne Westwood corset piece styled by Elad Bitton with a stunning neckpiece is as fierce as ever, and yet another example that she’s not interested in playing safe.
Are lipsticks harmful? A dermatologist answers "Lipsticks are essentially a blend of oils and wax. Colour of the lipstick comes from various dyes and pigments," dermatologist said Lipsticks are essentially a blend of oils and wax. Colour of the lipstick comes from various dyes and pigments,” she captioned the video, adding that pigments are a blend of “various metals (typically the oxides), but the levels of metal used are well within safety limits (despite some controversial studies in the recent past).” However, she pointed out that those with a history of eczema, sensitivity, dark lips may face adverse reactions from the pigment, if applied daily. “These pigments can cause or aggravate lip eczema or even perioral dermatitis causing lip darkening or pigmentation around the mouth,” she added. The dermatologist shared some helpful tips about using lipsticks safely and for overall healthier lips. They are: • Apply a layer of lip balm with SPF before your lipstick. Some extra sun protection never hurt anyone! • Use glossier nudes more often than darker mattes. They are in vogue and contain lesser pigments than your favourite reds. • Do not retouch your lipstick more than twice a day. • Take a break from lipsticks whenever possible. Try to have days where you only wear a lip-balm with SPF to step out. • Check the expiry date of your cosmetics without fail. This goes without mention that you should be checking the expiry dates of all your lipsticks regularly.
Why ‘mishti doi’ is the healthier alternative to sweets
“Mishti doi is a fermented sweet dahi and is a very popular dessert throughout the country… Mishti doi is prepared by boiling milk until it is slightly thickened, sweetening it with gur (jaggery) and allowing the milk to ferment overnight.”
Those who have a sweet tooth know how difficult it is to stay away from their favourite sweets and desserts. Experts warn that while occasional eating is all right, one should not consume a lot of sweet food, especially in one sitting. That is because it can lead to overeating and a sudden spike in the blood sugar level which, if repeated, can lead to many lifestyle disorders including diabetes. One such healthy alternative is ‘mishti doi’. The sweetened curd gets its brownish tinge from the jaggery present in it. Many households in India have replaced processed sugar with jaggery, which serves the same purpose — of giving a sweet kick to food and beverages — but with a healthier outcome. Mishti doi is a staple in Bengali households, and also works as a dessert option in festivities. Such is its taste that it has become popular throughout the country. “Mishti doi is a fermented sweet dahi and is a very popular dessert throughout the country… Mishti doi is prepared by boiling milk until it is slightly thickened, sweetening it with gur (jaggery) and allowing the milk to ferment overnight.”
The godmother of ‘plant-based’ living Lappé said she has never thought of herself as leading a revolution strictly fought in the produce aisle. As she put it, “The reward isn’t how many vegetarians I created.” Rather, she is gratified when people come up to her and say, “I read your book and it changed my life.”
F
rances Moore Lappé’s last hamburger was in 1971, the same year she published “Diet for a Small Planet,” her hugely influential book about food and sustainability, which virtually created the publishing category of food politics and turned Lappé into what she once selfdeprecatingly called “the Julia Child of the soybean circuit.” In “Diet,” Lappé argued that Americans eat too much meat, especially beef, and that our meat-centered meals are an enormous waste of resources. Both our bodies and the planet would be healthier if we ate a plant-focused diet instead. “People didn’t cut onions. They just used onion powder. You couldn’t even find a bottle of olive oil — it was Wesson cooking oil.” Adopting a vegetarian regimen was, Katzen said,
Sitting in her kitchen, with its same glass jars of grains and beans on the shelves, Lappé reflected on her longago conversion. “Not eating meat, I call it my act of rebel sanity,” she said. “It was like opening the door. The world of taste, color, texture is in the plant world. I tell people, it wasn’t a sacrifice. It was a discovery.” “definitely way off Main Street.” Over the years, many people have categorized Lappé as a cookbook author or chef, like another of her contemporaries, food activist Alice Waters. In fact, it was Ballantine who suggested that Lappé include recipes in “Diet,” to soften and make more salable what was essentially a political manifesto. Many of the dishes were crowdsourced from friends. Lappé was 25 and attending graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, when she began to question her life’s purpose. Like many in her generation, she’d read “The Population Bomb,” the 1968 book by Paul Ehrlich that predicted (wrongly, it turned out) a coming famine because of overpopulation, and she was inspired by the ecological movement that led to the first Earth Day. Lappé was also being exposed to new and different foods, including bulgur and tofu. She started auditing courses on soil science and poring over academic reports in the agricultural library at Berkeley, to better understand the food system and global hunger. She was surprised by her findings; notably, that over half of the harvested acreage in the United States at the time went to feeding livestock, leaving more than enough food to go around if those resources were redirected.

Andhra Pradesh Withdraws Vaccine Plan For Children, Controversial 3-Capital Bill Additional Doses Within 2 HiIndia Newsdesk
Three capitals were proposed in the bill - executive capital at Vizag, legislative capital at Amaravati, judicial capital at Kurnool. The state government in Andhra Pradesh has withdrawn the controversial three-capital bill after facing massive resistance from several quarters. The southern state had been witnessing protests for over two years over the proposed law. Three capitals were proposed in the bill - executive capital at Vizag, legislative capital at Amaravati, judicial capital at Kurnool. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made the big announcement in the state assembly on Monday. “We believed that decentralisation of capital is much needed in Andhra Pradesh. Government is going to take back the Bill which was introduced earlier. We will introduce a new Bill with no errors,” Mr Reddy said in the state legislative assembly.

New Delhi COVID-19 inoculation for children is among s e veral imp or t ant points to be discussed at a meeting of the g ov e r n m e nt’s t o p advisor y group on immunisation in the next two weeks,
sources have said. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India, or NTAGI, will also draw up a comprehensive plan for giving additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine to adults, people with direct knowledge of the matter said. Vaccination for children with comorbidities would likely start in January, sources said, asking not to be identified. By March, all other children are likely to become eligible for vaccination, they said. The subject of additional doses for adults is significant as some nations have also called for solid protection against the highly contagious coronavirus with booster doses.
WTA says concerns remain for Chinese tennis star after IOC call HiIndia Newsdesk
The Women’s Tennis Association has said that a call between Peng Shuai and the president of the International Olympic Committee does not address its concerns over the Chinese player’s wellbeing. An IOC statement after the call said Peng appeared to be safe and well. Peng, 35, disappeared from the public eye for almost three weeks after she made sexual assault allegations against a senior Chinese minister. Her absence triggered widespread international concern. Sports stars and governments called on China to provide proof that she was safe.
“Need Price Guarantee”: Huge Farmers’ Meet In UP To Keep Pressure On PM HiIndia Newsdesk
Lucknow : A law to guarantee Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farm produce is a must, farmers gathered at a ‘mahapanchayat’ in Lucknow said today, days after their year-long protest forced the government to announce that three contentious farm laws will be rolled back. While a decision on the future of the protest will be taken by top farmer leaders later this week, those who attended the rally at the capital of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh were unanimous in asserting the need for a law on MSP.

Spot The Difference In PM’s Pics With Yogi? Congress Did HiIndia Newsdesk
Twin pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went viral and quickly became a Twitter trend on Sunday. The set of two pictures, tweeted by Yogi Adityanath, shows the two men in deep conversation, but what caught the people’s eye, and attention, beyond the visual appeal of the two powerful men in one frame was a particular detail in the picture. The opposition Congress was quick to point out the anomaly in the picture - a part of the PM’s attire appeared to have changed between the two pictures, suggesting, an intently staged photo op rather than a candid moment. “By putting up a photo, the Chief Minister of the state is proving that everything is fine. In one photo, Modi ji has donned an angocha, in one he has a shawl. both annoyance and nervousness are clear. With this picture, more harm is caused than profit. Yogi ji. information consultant will drown,” tweeted Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
The Supreme Court Monday granted protection from arrest to former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh in criminal cases lodged against him in Maharashtra and sought responses from the state government, its DGP and the CBI on his plea. Singh, who had accused the then Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption, has alleged frame-up in criminal cases. Besides seeking protection from coercive steps, Singh has sought a CBI probe into the entire issue involving him. A bench comprising Justices S K Kaul and M M Sundresh issued notices to the Maharashtra government, its DGP Sanjay Pande and the CBI on Singh’s plea.
