major winter storm with millions of Americans in its path brought a mix of rain, freezing rain and snow to the central US as airlines canceled thousands of flights, officials urged residents to stay off roads and schools closed campuses. The blast of frigid weather, which began arriving Tuesday night and continued Wednesday, put a long stretch of states from New Mexico and
Colorado to Maine under winter storm warnings and watches. On Wednesday morning, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan saw freezing rain, sleet and snow. Russia condemns 'destructive' US troops boost in Europe HiIndia Newsdesk
Russia has condemned a US decision to send extra troops to Europe to support its Nato allies amid continuing fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. Moscow said it was a "destructive" step which heightened tension and reduced the scope for a political solution. The Pentagon said 2,000 US troops would be sent from North Carolina to Poland and Germany, and a further 1,000 already in Germany would go to Romania. Russia has some 100,000 troops near Ukraine. It denies planning to invade. The tensions come eight years after Russia annexed Ukraine's southern Crimea peninsula and backed a bloody rebellion in the eastern Donbas region.

A top lawmaker from the powerful US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has condemned China's decision to make an army officer, who was injured in a clash with Indian soldiers, the torchbearer for the Beijing Winter Olympics. T h e C h i n e s e a r my ' s re g i m e nt a l commander, who was severely injured in the violent faceoff with Indian troops in Galwan valley in June 2020, became the torchbearer at the Beijing Games, local media reported. The move is a clear indication that the Beijing Games has been politicised, China watchers have said. "It's shameful that Beijing chose a torchbearer for the Olympics 2022 who's part of the military command that attacked India in 2020 and is implementing genocide against the Uyghurs. The US will continue to support Uyghur freedoms and the sovereignty of India," tweeted Jim Risch, US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member.

US State Dep. spokesperson Ned Price
US State Department spokesperson Ned Price was asked about Gandhi's comments at the Lok Sabha Wednesday during a press conference.
The United States does not endorse Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment that China and Pakistan are closer than ever due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ineffective policies, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said Thursday. Price was answering a question about Gandhi’s comments in the Lok Sabha Wednesday. “Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, he made a remark in the Indian parliament today suggesting – saying, stating that it is due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ineffective foreign policies that Pakistan and China are closer than ever. Does the State Department agree with that assessment?,” a reporter asked Price. “I will leave it to the Pakistanis and the People’s Republic of China to speak to their relationship. I certainly would not endorse those remarks,” he replied. Price was further asked if Pakistan and China have become closer because “they feel abandoned” by the US. “We’ve made the point all along that it is not a requirement for any country around the world to choose between the United States and China. It is our intention to provide choices to countries when it comes to what the relationship with the United States looks like. And we think partnership with the United States conveys a series of advantages that countries typically would not find when it comes to the sorts of partnerships that – “partnerships” may be the wrong term; the sorts of relationships that the PRC has seeked to – has sought to have around the world,” he replied.

ince the Myanmar military brutally put down the mass protests that began following the February 1 coup last year, flash mobs have repeatedly gathered in major cities such as Yangon and Mandalay to protest against the military junta. The mostly young demonstrators unfurl posters, chant slogans and walk through the streets, only to disperse into the side streets shortly thereafter. social media clearly show that women are always on the frontline. Htet Htar, 25, says that street protests are no longer enough. Last June, she joined the so-called People’s Defense Forces, which is spearheading the armed resistance against the regime. “What other option do I have? The military has taken away everything from us. I joined the resistance to liberate my country,” she told DW. “I keep thinking about a liberated Burma,” she added. It was evident from the very beginning that women and their position in
society played a special role in the protests. In February and March 2021, when there were large street protests throughout the country and the military began to violently put down the demonstrations, the protesters used the superstitions of the approaching soldiers against the military. They hung women’s traditional wraparound skirts over the streets or barricades and used them as flags. The superstition is that if a man passes under women’s clothes, he loses physical and spiritual virility.

2 Pak Military Bases Attacked Before Imran Khan Heads To China HiIndia Newsdesk
Quetta: Separatist insurgents in the Pakistani province of Balochistan have attacked two military bases, killing one soldier while losing four of their own men, the army said, in the latest violence in the resource-rich province where China is investing. The overnight attacks came hours before Prime Minister Imran Khan set off for Beijing for the opening of the Winter Olympic Games."We salute our brave security forces who repulsed terrorist attacks," Khan said in a statement on Thursday. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLF) insurgent group claimed responsibility in a statement sent to a Reuters reporter, saying its suicide bombers had detonated explosive-laden vehicles at the entrance of the bases killing more than 50 soldiers. Last week, the insurgents killed 10 soldiers in an attack on a post near the port of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea, the heaviest casualty for the army in the Balochistan insurgency in years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West on Tuesday of deliberately creating a scenario designed to lure it into war and ignoring Russia's security concerns over Ukraine. In his first direct public comments on the crisis for nearly six weeks, a defiant Putin showed no sign of backing down from security demands that the West has called non-starters and a possible excuse to launch an invasion, which Moscow denies. "It's already clear now ... that fundamental Russian concerns were ignored," Putin said at a news conference with the visiting prime minister of Hungary, one of several NATO leaders trying to intercede with him as the crisis has intensified. Putin described a potential future scenario in which Ukraine was admitted to NATO and then attempted to recapture the Crimea peninsula, territory Russia seized in 2014.
World News in Brief India Gives Sri Lanka $500 Million Loan To Pay For Oil Colombo: Sri Lanka was handed temporary relief from energy shortages and rolling blackouts on Wednesday with a $500 million loan from India to finance urgent oil purchases for the cash-strapped nation. Frequent breakdowns at a huge coal power plant have compounded unannounced electricity cuts and households are also struggling to source cooking gas and kerosene.

Herd Immunity To Fight Covid “Foolish Idea”: WHO Chief Scientist
Gen Naravane mentioned that restructuring, rebalancing and reorienting of the Indian forces have already been initiated, and added, “we are further consolidating, from our operational experiences to these changes, and this shall remain a work in progress.”
Almost all modern technologies have the potential for military application and disruptive impact on modern-day warfare, said the Army Chief.
I
ndia has already witnessed “trailers” of what conflict in the future will look like, along the country’s unsettled and active border, Indian Army Chief General M M Naravane said on Thursday. He said India faces “unique, substantial and multi-domain challenges” and “disputed borders with nuclear neighbours, coupled with statesponsored proxy war, stretches our security apparatus and resources”.
Speaking, along with the chiefs of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force (IAF), at the Pragyan Conclave organised by the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) think tank, Naravane said, “We are already witnessing trailers of future conflicts. They are being enacted daily on the information battlefield, in the networks and cyberspace. They are also being played along with our yet unsettled and active borders. It is for us to visualise, the battlefield contours of tomorrow, based on these trailers.” The theme of the event was contours of future wars and countermeasures. Naravane said that the “creation of the Defence Space Agency, Defence Cyber Agency, and the Armed Forces Special Operations Division, are steps to synergise resources and expertise, and build integrated capabilities in these domains.”
A Vote For Congress An BJP moves privilege “Indirect Vote For BJP”: motion against Rahul Arvind Kejriwal HiIndia Newsdesk

Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal said the Congress has ruled Goa for several years, but has been turned into a “cadre feeder” for the BJP. “People join the Congress to become a leader and then switch to BJP,” he said.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal today took a swipe at the Congress, saying a vote for it in Goa will mean an “indirect vote” for the BJP, given the trend of Congressmen joining the ruling party. The battle in Goa, therefore, is between the AAP and the BJP, he added, urging people to vote for his party to see the BJP out. “The people of Goa have a choice between AAP and BJP. If you want a clean, honest government, you can vote for AAP. The other option is to vote for the BJP directly or indirectly. Indirect voting is when you vote for the Congress, that Congress man will win and go to the BJP,” Mr Kejriwal said at the NDTV townhall.
Such a step can be taken if individuals or authorities violate or disregard any of the privileges, powers, and immunities of the House
Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Nishikant Dubey on Thursday moved a breach of privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi for “inciting” people through the speech that the Congress leader made in Parliament on Wednesday slamming the government for allegedly destroying the idea of India by ruling a union of states as a “kingdom”., according to hindustantimes.com. Instead of a “Union of States” that converses and negotiates with its citizens, “the idea of the king has come back. A shahenshah, a master”, Rahul told the House during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address on Wednesday. Dubey called Gandhi “script reader” and a “drawingroom politician” and added he has not even read the Preamble of the Constitution.
Dr Soumya Swaminathan HiIndia Newsdesk
New Delhi: The idea of attaining herd immunity through natural infection to fight against Covid is “foolish” as there are huge costs to be paid, Chief Scientist at the World Health Organisation Dr Soumya Swaminathan told NDTV today, adding that the WHO has always maintained this stand. About the new Omicron sub-variant, she said that BA.2 is more potent than BA.1 and its transmission is more than other sub-variants. It’s taking a grip in some countries, especially India and Denmark, she added.

TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
Through public spend, there will be crowding in of pvt investments: FM Message for the middleclasses
HiIndia Newsdesk
Characterise the budget
T
his Budget is a Budget for continuity, it certainly is a Budget for sustaining the stimulus, which is being given. We want to honestly undertake the public investment in asset creation, public infrastructure expenditure and only through this we feel, there will be a crowding in of private investments. So the virtuous cycle can happen only by the government leading the way and we have unhesitatingly come forward. Otherwise, within one year, capital expenditure going up from Rs 5.5 lakh crore to Rs 7.5 lakh crore in not small and … within this Rs 7.5 lakh crore, we have given Rs 1 lakh crore to the states as a 50-year interest free grant and that’s not going to be cutting down on their borrowing.
I fully recognise, every section of the society has suffered, middleclass has definitely suffered but when we talk about middle-class I understand, you understand, all of us understand and each of us also perceive that there is an element of middle-class in us also and therefore we understand the element of suffering. But yet we also belong to some other group, for instance if you or your brother or your son would start a startup and he gets benefits, isn’t that middle-class? If his children are going abroad and if I give them all the facility to transfer money for their education abroad and give them also a passport, which is going to be futuristic and ensure that when they come back they can have a skilling programme and I also make sure that high-class universities are set up in India, isn’t that not addressing the middle-class? And similarly, would we want to think that the farmers are not middle-class? Would they not get benefits, will we think that the MSME running person is not middle-class, so middle-class is a large spectrum, which has that middle-income as being the common factor, but are spread across the board, in one or the other way the government is dealing with it. Affordable housing, is that not for middle-class?
A growth of 11.1 Per cent
I
t’s not underpromising, it’s being realistic, one. And secondly, when last year’s Budget was brought in, we hadn’t seen Omicron, we hadn’t seen the second wave, at that time, before the second wave, I had given the, Budget. Now second wave has come, hopefully it has gone, now Omicron is on, but even more you have the US Fed, you also have the international crude oil prices going up, metals have become very expensive. So, we will have to keep all this in mind. We are not getting into details of which is considered a challenge, which is considered a headwind, which is not, but at the same time, I think Prime Minister has been very clear that we will have to work out to make the Budget a lot more…a speaking document, it should say what it has, there’s no point in saying things beyond a certain…and that’s what we have followed.
Recognise cryptos
as an asset class but not as a currency
I
am not yet doing a ny of t h at … I want you to give me the opportunity to explain it. There is a process of consultation, which is going on, about crypto … Before the consultation is completed, I won’t be able to do anything on regulating them or formalising a framework for regulation for them, this is one side of the story. Second is, everything that is crypto cannot be a currency. What is a currency? A currency is something which is issued by as a fiat. It is issued by the authorities concerned, by the government or the central bank. If they show something,
even if it is digital, only then can it be currency. What happens in the world of crypto, otherwise, is they are creating very many different types of assets, using the digital technology and also using the distributed ledger technology. All of them are not necessarily currency. Currency is that which comes from a central bank, which has the authority to issue currency. So what we have now made a provision for, is for the Reserve Bank of India to issue a digital currency. And that obviously will be riveted in, or based on certain value of gold, or money or government assets or something of that kind. So it will be asset-backed. It will be sovereign-backed in a way, so that is what is currency. The rest … we don’t know yet how we are going to regulate them, because consultation is going on. However, because there is a lot of buying and selling and transacting, resulting in some kind of a profit and it is a sovereign right to tax such transactions and profit making, I have come up with a proposal for a taxation on them and that is to an extent of 30 per cent for profits earned out of such transactions and also a TDS. So that I know who is buying and selling. In the sense, what is the transactions about, money trail, whether it is a) money or b) money … whatever. So, the taxation is on those activities, which are not currency, currency is with the Reserve Bank, but these are some kind of assets being bought and sold, various types of it, I am taxing them.

"India Is Isolated Outside, Fighting Inside": Rahul Gandhi To Centre In a fiery speech in parliament, the Congress leader also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the "idea of a king is back", and accused the BJP of weakening India. HiIndia Newsdesk

ongress leader Rahul Gandhi today accused the government of using the judiciary, the Election Commission and Pegasus spyware as "instruments to destroy the voice of the union of states". In a fiery speech in parliament, the Congress leader also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the "idea of a king is back", and accused the BJP of weakening India. There are now two distinct Indias, he said, one of the rich and the other of the poor. "The gap between the two is growing," he said in the Lok Sabha. "You keep talking about Make in India, Make in India. Make in India is not possible anymore. You have destroyed 'Made in India'. You need to support small and medium industries, otherwise 'Make in India' is not possible. Small and medium industries are the only ones who can create jobs. You keep talking about Made in India, New India, Start-Up India, etc. And joblessness is only increasing." The Congress MP tore into the government over unemployment and said it was because of "your flawed vision that two Indias are being created." Mr Gandhi also accused the ruling BJP of bringing back the idea of a "king of India". "You will never ever in your life rule over the people of Tamil Nadu. No matter what fantasies you have, you will never ever rule over the people of a state of India," he said as he illustrated his point on cooperative federalism, "conversation and negotiation". "That is the only way India has been ruled. You can look at Ashoka, Maurya, the country has always been ruled by conversation and negotiation," he said. "My great grandfather was jailed for 15 years while he was building this thing. My grandmother was shot 32 times. My father was blown to bits. So I understand a little bit about what
this country is. You are fiddling with something very, very dangerous. I am advising you to stop. Because if you don't stop you will create a problem. The problem has already started in the Northeast, in Tamil Nadu - it's not visible to you right now - Jammu and Kashmir," Mr Gandhi said. It demonstrated "a complete lack of understanding of history", he said, calling it a clash between the idea of a Union of States versus the idea of a king. "We smashed that idea of a king in 1947. Now the idea of a king has come back. A king, a shahenshah. A ruler of rulers, a master of masters..." Mr Gandhi once again alleged that only a handful of industrialists are benefiting because of the BJP government. "One person gets every port in India, every airport, tower, transmission, mining, green energy, gas distribution, edible oil. Everywhere there is (Gautam) Adani ji. The entire wealth of the country is going to a chosen few." The BJP and its ideological mentor RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) are weakening the foundations of the country, said the Congress MP. "Ask yourself why you are not able to get a guest on Republic Day. We are completely isolated and surrounded... You have brought Pakistan and China together and this is the single biggest crime you could have committed against the people of India," he said. "The nation is at risk from outside, the nation is at risk from inside. That is a very dangerous place and I am very uncomfortable with my nation standing where it is standing - completely isolated on the outside, fighting on the inside, institutions captured, states not able to speak to each other. This worries me." The BJP attacked Rahul Gandhi over the speech, accusing him of making a "directionless, confused speech" without any understanding of India's history.
Rahul Gandhi's Top Quotes In Parliament "There are two Indias, one India is for the extremely rich people - for those who have immense wealth, immense power, for those who don't need a job, those who don't need water connection, electricity connections, but for those who control the heartbeat of the country. And then another India for the poor. The gap between these two Indias is widening." "Poor people can see India's richest 100 have more wealth than 55 crore people. Prime Minister should start uniting these two Indias at the earliest. You are giving everything to few people who put you on TV, WhatsApp." "I am very worried about my country standing where it's standing. You're putting this nation and its people at huge risk. You (the government) have brought China and Pakistan together. We have made huge strategic mistakes in Jammu and Kashmir."
"My understanding is that the RSS and the BJP are playing with the foundation of our country. They are ensuring not a single youth can get a job. Ask yourself why you are not able to get a guest on Republic Day. India today is completely isolated and surrounded."
"The Judiciary, the Election Commission, and Pegasus... these are all instruments used for destroying the voice of the union of the states."
"You talk of "Make in India". But there cannot be "Make in India" today. The matter has ended because who are the people involved in "Make in India"? Small and medium industry, unorganized sector that you have finished. "Make in India" is not going to take place."
"I'll speak on emergency as well. I don't fear talking about it. There are two visions of India. No power has been able to challenge this bouquet of flowers. The idea of king has come back which the Congress removed in 1947. Now there is a "Shehanshah". Now the instruments of the conversations between our state, people are being attacked by one idea. Farmers protested for one year, the King doesn't listen."

The New York Times report said that the FBI too had bought a version of Pegasus, “NSO’s premier spying tool.” It was around last summer that the

She plays a quirky character who is caught in a time loop as she tries to save her boyfriend from an imminent death. Talking about the process of making Looop Lapeta, Taapsee jokes that it was like “college ka experimental cinema” that she was doing on the side and it gave her quite a kick. She says, “It felt like we were working on ‘college ka experimental cinema’. The cast and crew were filled with so much ‘josh’ and passion, we all wanted to make something ‘zabardast’. And does she not fear getting lost in the sea of “non-conventional” roles she has been doing recently? “I have made a career out of playing tricky roles, as I’ve never got conventional roles to play,” the actor says. Taapsee, who plays Savi in the Aakash Bhatia film, says, “People used to say that a certain film is commercial and some were ‘off-beat’, film used to be categorised this way. But, for me, there are only two types of films, one that is entertaining, by which I mean that it will keep you glued. Or the film that is not entertaining. A film can keep you glued because it is so intense, or it can keep you glued because it is so funny. There can be multiple reasons, but the end result should be that it should keep you glued.”

"Data centers and energy storage systems including dense charging infrastructure and grid-scale battery systems will be included in the harmonized list of infrastructure," Nirmala Sitharaman, India's finance minister, said Tuesday as part of the annual budget speech in Parliament. "This will facilitate credit availability for digital infrastructure and clean energy storage." The policy tweak, effective from April 1, comes as Asia's no. 3 economy seeks to keep its data within its borders as well as stoke a massive boom in online payments, e-commerce and quantum computing. Roll out of ultra-speedy 5G telecom services will further increase demand for data center services, spurring conglomerates helmed by Adani and Mittal to rapidly scale up. benefit from this reclassification. The infrastructure tag "is expected to provide access to cheaper and longterm institutional funds, which will promote investments," Radha Dhir, chief executive officer and India head at real estate consultancy JLL, said in an email. She expects India's data center capacity to double from 499 megawatts in the first half of 2021 to 1,008 megawatts next year. Adani, Asia's second-richest person, said in November that he wants his conglomerate to be a world leader in green data storage, with sites run entirely on clean power, in sync with India's goal of turning carbon net zero by 2070. The Adani Group plans to initially build data centers in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and in and around New Delhi. Bharti Airtel Ltd., the country's No. 2 wireless carrier overseen by Mittal, announced plans in September to invest 50 billion rupees ($671 million) to triple its data center capacity to 400 megawatts by 2025. Reliance's digital unit has also been looking to build a data center, according to a local media report. Representatives for Adani Group, Reliance and Bharti Airtel did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comments on the policy change announced in the budget.

PM's Instruction Was Very Clear, "No Additional Taxes": Nirmala Sitharaman HiIndia Newsdesk

P
rime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed that taxes not be raised amid the Covid pandemic, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters today after presenting the Union budget in parliament. PM Modi, she added, had given the same direction last year as well. "Didn't want to increase tax at the time of pandemic... PM Modi's instruction was very clear --'No additional taxes'," Ms Sitharaman said. Accordingly, Income tax slabs have not been changed in this budget. The finance minister has also proposed that both Centre and states government employees' tax deduction limit be increased from 10 per cent to 14 per cent. This will help state government employees with social security benefits and bring them at par with the Central government employees, she said. Earlier today, PM Modi said the budget will benefit all, especially the poor and those from backward sections of society. "This budget is full of new possibilities for more infrastructure, more investment, more growth, and more
jobs," the Prime Minister said, adding that it will also open up the field of green jobs... An important aspect of this budget is the welfare of the poor". The government said the budget aims to boost economic growth amid the continued disruption from the Covid pandemic and the rising inflation. Ms Sitharaman also said this year's budget will be a "blueprint to steer economy from India@75 to India@100". The budget this time includes a huge push for infrastructure and estimates the effective capital expenditure of the Central government at Rs. 10.68 lakh crore in 2022-23, comprising around 4.1 per cent of the GDP. Talking of revenue, Ms Sitharaman said the gross GST collections for January is Rs. 1,40,986 crore — the highest since the inception of the tax in 2017. Ms Sitharaman said the government will soon be issuing a digital rupee using the blockchain technology by the Reserve Bank starting 2022-23, which will be a big boost for economy. Income from the transfer of any virtual digital asset will be taxed at the rate of 30 per cent.

Central government announces hike in sports budget
For an aging champion who has earned his reputation as one of the greatest competitors in sports, it was a fitting way to stand alone with 21 Grand Slam men’s singles titles. Down, two sets to none, in the Australian Open final, against the higher ranked and considerably younger Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal did not simply count himself fortunate to have made it so far in a tournament he once considered himself
unlikely to play. Instead, he did what he has done since he burst onto the tennis scene nearly 20 years ago as a longhaired teenager in pirate pants. He fought. He thought. He fought and thought some more, and his prize was his most unexpected major title and a victory, 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5, that was utterly suitable for archiving.

I am proud to share this era with you and honored to play a role in pushing you to achieve more, as you have done for me for the past 18 years. I am sure you have more achievements ahead but for now enjoy this one!" he added.

Indian American Man Sentenced To Prison For Sexually Abusing
PHILADELPHIA, PA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Philadelphia seized two shipments of dangerous controlled substances – a date-rape precursor and an LSD-like hallucinogenic – on January 20 that arrived in express delivery parcels from overseas. The first parcel, which was destined to an address in Chicago, arrived on January 18 from Germany and was manifested as “Butanediol Samples.” Butanediol is a solvent used as a floor stripper and paint thinner. CBP officers examined the shipment and discovered 10 bottles of a clear liquid packaged as a cleaning solution. Officers tested the liquid using a handheld elemental isotope analysis tool and identified the liquid as gamma butyrolactone (GBL), a DEA Schedule 1 controlled substance. The GBL collectively weighed nearly 3.5 gallons. According to the DEA, GBL is a chemical analogue
of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a highly addictive central nervous system depressant that poses potentially severe health consequences. Sexual predators have used GBL as precursor chemical in a date-rape drug, and others abuse GBL as a bodybuilding supplement and human growth hormone. The second parcel arrived on January 19 from the Netherlands and was manifested as “Mimosa Tenuiflora.” CBP officers inspected the Dutchess County, N.Y., bound shipment and discovered 57 pounds of tree bark pieces. Customs and Border protection officers in Philadelphia seized two shipments that contained dangerous controlled substances — gamma butyrolactone (GBL) and dimethyltryptamine (DMT) — on January 20, 2022.

The new update provides examples of evidence that may satisfy the O-1A evidentiary criteria and discusses considerations that are relevant to evaluating such evidence, with a focus on the highly technical nature of STEM fields and the complexity of the evidence often submitted. The update also emphasizes that, if a petitioner demonstrates that a particular criterion does not readily apply to their occupation, they may submit evidence that is of comparable significance to that criterion to establish sustained acclaim and recognition, and it provides examples of possible comparable evidence that may be submitted in support of petitions for beneficiaries working in STEM fields. In addition, the update explains that when evaluating whether an individual of extraordinary ability is coming to work in their “area of extraordinary ability,” officers will focus on whether the prospective work involves skillsets, knowledge, or expertise shared with the occupation(s) in which the individual garnered acclaim.

NEW YORK, NY — Sickly, smoky odor caused on morning in New York, the cause was likely a fire burning miles away at a scrapyard in Newark, New Jersey. The fire broke out late Monday at the Eastern Metal Recycling Terminal in Newark, where it continued to burn as of Tuesday morning. In a Notify NYC alert, authorities said that smoke from the fire could be seen and smelled by residents of Manhattan and the Bronx. In fact, the odor seemed to travel further than that — as far as Astoria, Queens, and even further east in Forest Hills and College Point, according to Twitter users. “Currently commuting home from lower Manhattan and I can still smell it by city field,” one user wrote just before 7 a.m. “I just freaked out and called the fire department after running up and down the stairs in my building sniffing the air,” wrote another user in Lower Manhattan.

The more fruitful we make this session, the better is the rest of the year for the country to touch economic heights,” the Prime Minister said in his traditional pre-session comments.

I
mmunity has become a buzzword now, but it has always been fundamental to our practice. It’s the basics of what we do and a part of the five fundamental intelligent systems within the human body involved in prevention, recovery, and rebuilding. In fact, every programme and protocol for our clients and patients is built around angiogenesis, DNA repair, immunity and inflammation, the gut microbiome, and stem-cell regeneration after a thorough diagnosis and prognosis. Whether it is a common cold, diabetes, or cancer, it is connected to our immune system considerably, and the very fact that a disease has made its way into a body means that the immune system was compromised at some point Immunity is dependent on your internal and external environment. This is what shapes your immunity. The external environment covers the quality of air, surroundings, people around us, the energies we are exposed to, and the internal environment consists of the food we eat, water intake, products we use, thoughts that cross our mind, our breathing patterns, and so on. The effect of the environment on our genes is also significant (epigenetic), and certain environmental factors can turn on or turn off the right genes or vice versa. This is precisely why it is important to live a balanced lifestyle because there is a possibility of turning on a bad gene through a fault habit. For example, inflammation. While inflammation is a necessary part of our immune function, and we need it as a protective mechanism, chronic inflammation can serve as a trigger to turn on faulty gene expression. So, it all comes down to lifestyle. We n e e d d i s c i p l i n e f o r everything, even for making the right food choices. We cannot wake up one day and decide to start eating healthy and expect it to work for us the right away. One needs to be consistent with whatever efforts one takes to boost immunity. You cannot practise pranayama just for a day and expect it to boost your respiratory function. Immunity is built over time. We see how people who once overdid antibiotics during childhood have actually weak immunity today. So, consistency has a compounding effect, and it plays a massive role in boosting our immune systems. By practising meditation, silent reflection, learning to accept, let go, forgive, and the power of tolerance. Deep prayer and laughter are powerful medicines. Get those few minutes of laughter every single day. Watch some comedy, perhaps a video on YouTube, or a hilarious show. Even if you have to fake laughter, do it because laughter is scientifically proven to be effective for your immune system. Spend time in nature. If you live in the city, try to grow plants or flowers on your balcony. But, even if it is your little slice of green heaven, be close to nature as far as possible. Try to watch a sunset or sunrise, very important for you. The focus has always been on immunity, but it’s been even more deliberate with the pandemic. Firstly, practising social distancing and hygiene protocols. Sleep

immunity All about
and ways to boost it
Stress is the most significant contributor to a low immune system. We are not talking about day-to-day stressors that are good for us. What we are referring to is chronic emotional stress... where you allow resentment, guilt, anger, and other negative emotions to control your life and affect the way you eat, sleep, think and live...
Your key to good mental health
T
he key is connecting back to your spirit and inner being, so you do not give away your power and peace to what happens in the outer world, whether it’s events, people, or their opinions. While stress will continue to be there in everyone’s lives, what matters is the way we relate and perceive it. For anyone looking to improve their mental health, it’s essential to change the way they look at stress. It is also important to stay grounded, stop trying to control things that are not in our control, and learn acceptance, mindfulness, forgiveness, and letting go. Know that there is going to be struggle in our lives and learn that it is okay to have them. There are good and bad days in everyone’s lives, and no one is entitled only to have good days. Entitlement to only happy days leads to misery because our lives and happiness can start to crumble when faced with struggles.
is important for immunity, so you make sure you get enough of it daily. Eating clean is another one, with a complete drop in the intake of refined sugar, junk, and processed foods. Must exercise regularly and work on your emotional state of mind. Even though there is stress, You have learned how to look at it differently and change your relationship with it. You also meditate regularly, engage in hobbies, and immerse yourself in work to keep yourself busy to help you be in a happy state of mind, which ultimately reflects on your immunity. As for nutrition, you have increased intake of spices like turmeric, ginger, black pepper, garlic, clove in various forms and continued to take the immunity-boosting powder throughout the pandemic and before that too.
Immunity-boosting foods are: • Garam masala • Rasam/ sambhar • Khichri (rice and lentil mix) • Amla (Indian gooseberry) • Loose black tea leaves and good quality coffee • Local and seasonal fruits • Cruciferous vegetables and leafy greens • Chickpeas and sattu (one can make a drink out of it too) • Nuts and seeds • Cold-pressed, good quality oils • Basic Indian spices like turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, jeera, ajwain, fennel • Herbs like thyme, oregano, rosemary • A2 Gir cow ghee

Hair Colour Trends That Are Going To Rage In 2022 The energy shift felt in the new year is quite apparent. 2022 brings with it a promise of a fresh start, and we’re all here for it. What better way to get your groove on for the new year than hopping on to the hair colour train? Ushering in new trends and styles while keeping the winners of last year still going strong comes the possibility of a new colour with a fresh calendar. Whether you want to enhance your existing colour and add dimension or change your personality entirely – we’re looking at some drastic and not-sodrastic changes to mark your feed this year. And staying up to date on the hottest colour trends is what we do best; so, check ’em out –
Putting The ‘Hot’ In Chocolate
Warm Me Right Up, Winter Sun
Icy Blonde
Over the past year, we’ve seen several blonde girls gravitate to the brunette side of the spectrum. And we predict this year to have the same if not more conversions to the rich chocolate look. Making sure that it’s not a single flat colour all over is essential because this look is characterised by depth and dimension at its core.
The most identifiable colour trend will be a continuance of the warm reds and coppers, bringing us major 2010 RiRi energy, and we’re all here for it. The shades are predicted to sweep through Hollywood rapidly, alternating in vibrancy and depth of colour. According to leading hairstylists, the warmer the tone, the better the red.
We’re moving on from the staple California sun-kissed blonde to a more colour-blocked and bleached look. Everyone wants a bit of blonde in their look, as was witnessed towards the end of 2021 and now, the beginning of 2022. The cool, statement and woven this icy blonde look is to die for.
Toasty Caramel For Winter Mornings
Dramarama With Vivid Overlays
The chill in the air seems like it’s not going away anytime soon, and if you need some warmth to spice up the remaining days of winter, a toasty caramel is perfect. 2022 is the year for migrating back to warm tones in the brunette world and giving a twist to your existing basic brown hair by adding auburn, caramel, and copper tones.
Highlights, money pieces, and bold ombrès – dipping your hair in a pop of colour (blue, green, orange, the entire rainbow, you name it) make your hair look fresh, fun, it the new own your fashion look. Overlays make your hair stand out.
The (Man)Icure Is Here To Stay.
M
anicures, traditionally considered a “feminine” pastime, are no longer classified as such, courtesy to men across the globe thwarting all such notions. Men with nail polish is now considered mainstream. Whilst we appreciate the shift in the rhetoric surrounding beauty and machismo, men wearing nail polish isn’t a new phenomenon. Artists David Bowie and Kurt Cobain have made headlines for wearing nail paint for more than a decade. Well, it’s visibly made its way back into our lives (yay), but this time around with a different aesthetic, with modern celebrity men like Harry Styles and Machine Gun Kelly donning not only basic painted nails but also elaborate nail art with some even launching their own nail paint lines.
Besan pyaz ka KARARA Ingredients 200gms gram flour 1 tsp desi ghee 1 cup yoghurt ½ tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp mustard oil ½ tsp carom seeds 1 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste 1 tsp red chilli powder ½ tsp turmeric powder ½ tsp asafoetida 1 tsp ginger chopped 1 tsp garlic paste 1 cup water
Method
W
ant to add an extra oomph to your look? Well, let MGK teach you how, with his extravagant nail art choices. MGK has always been in the press, whether it’s for some style inspiration, couple goals, or even his nails, there is really nothing to stop’em. In addition to his artistic manicure picks, he has entered the beauty space by launching his own nail paint line, UNDN/ LAQR, with the tagline “Don’t huff the paint.” He makes men with nail polish look fabulous.
Take gram flour (besan) in a bowl, add salt and red chilli powder Mix it well Add a little water and mix it until small lumps are formed Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida Add the lumps to the tadka (tempering) and roast properly until they turn brown Add more water to this to make a gravy (as per your need) Add turmeric powder and coriander powder Boil for five minutes Slowly add 1 cup blended curd, and stir in one direction until it boils Add chopped green chillies to give it an extra flavour For tadka, heat a pan and oil. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Cool down, add red chilli powder and mix well. Spread over the Karare now Enjoy it with hot chapatis or roti ka choorma.

UP Election Will Decide India’s Destiny: - Amit Shah HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
The decision to ease curbs was taken at a meeting between the Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
New Delhi: The weekend curfew has been lifted in Delhi, odd-even curbs for markets removed and restaurants and cinemas can reopen with 50 per cent capacity, the government said today, with Covid cases dropping in the capital. Schools will, however, remain shut for now. The decision to ease curbs was taken at a meeting between the Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. Shops can be open every day and the number of guests in weddings has been raised to 200 from 50. The 10 pm to 5 am night curfew in place since December will remain. No decision was taken on schools in today’s meeting though Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had yesterday flagged worries about the prolonged school shutdown affecting education and mental health of children.

Key details are awaited from the government, they said.
Amit Shah said there was a time when even the Uttar Pradesh police feared gangsters and criminals in the state. “Now gangsters and criminals are so fearful of the police that they are surrendering voluntarily - that too with a ‘patta’ (collar) around their necks” New Delhi: Union Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav today, saying electing him would mean a return to “goonda raj” (lawlessness) in Uttar Pradesh”. Mr Yadav is seen as the strongest competitor to the BJP, which is hoping for a second consecutive term in power in the assembly elections beginning on February 10. “Azam Khan was arrested... and there were so many charges against him. Akhilesh babu... you talk about law... you should be ashamed,” he added at a public meeting in Mathura, part of the crucial western Uttar Pradesh where the BJP is seen as being at a disadvantage owing to the alliance between Mr Yadav and Jat leader Jayant Chaudhary. Addressing the limited gathering as per the Election Commission rules, he said, “There was a time when gangsters and criminals spread such panic that even the state police feared them. Women and young girls feared venturing out. But that has changed now. The gangsters and criminals are so fearful of the police now that they are surrendering voluntarily - that too with a ‘patta’ (collar) around their necks”.“We have taken criminals and gangsters to task and put them behind bars. We have taken Uttar Pradesh away from the ‘parivaarvaad’ and ‘jaati-vaad’ (casteism) and focussed on development - and you all can see it for yourselves,” he said. “India cannot progress unless Uttar Pradesh - with 200 million people - is not progressing. Mr Shah said.

Covaxin Maker Bharat Biotech’s Nasal Booster Dose Trials Get Approval
V
HiIndia Newsdesk
accine manufacturer Bharat Biotech has received approval to conduct Phase-III clinical trials of an intranasal booster dose on people who have received both doses of Covaxin. The Drug Controller General of India today gave the go-ahead for the Phase-III trials. The trials will be conducted at nine locations in the country. An intranasal vaccine as a booster will be easier to administer in mass vaccination drives. Bharat Biotech has said that the nasal vaccine, BBV154,
stimulates immune responses at the the site of infection -- the nose -- and is very effective in blocking infection and transmission of Covid-19. It has also underlined how easily a nasal vaccine can be administered and the fact that it would not need trained healthcare workers. The Hyderabadbased vaccine manufacturer had last month sought the drug regulator’s approval to conduct phase-III trials of the nasal vaccine.
Maha govt faces Fadnavis ire HiIndia Newsdesk
Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday welcomed the Supreme C our t’s judgement, in which it termed the suspension of 12 BJP MLAs from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as “unconstitutional” and “irrational”. The Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly said the apex court’s decision is “another tight slap” on the face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress for its “unconstitutional, unethical, unfair, illegal and undemocratic actions”.
Raj Babbar’s Tweets Fuel Talk Third Covid-19 wave approaching plateau: Union health ministry Of Switch Before UP Polls HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
UP Elections 2022: Reports have been in circulation about Raj Babbar returning to his former party, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, ahead of the UP election.
New Delhi: The Congress may be staring at another big exit in Uttar Pradesh with Raj Babbar giving off worrying signals. Raj Babbar’s recent tweets have been divergent from the party line and he has not bothered to clarify. When a Padma Bhushan award for Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad provoked barbs from other party leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Raj Babbar effusively congratulated him. “Congratulations Ghulam Nabi Azad Sahab! You’re like an elder brother and your impeccable public life and commitment to Gandhian ideals have always been an inspiration. The Padma Bhushan is an ideal recognition of five decades of your meticulous service to the nation,” tweeted the actor-turned-politician. An award becomes more meaningful when an opposition party leader’s achievements are honoured. Anybody can do it for their own party leaders. I think the row over the Padma Bhushan is needless,” he tweeted on Thursday.
The number of omicron sequences found through a nationwide genome sequencing effort increased over sevenfold from 1,292 during December to 9,672 during January
I
ndia’s third Covid-19 wave is approaching a plateau, the Union health ministry said on Thursday, amid declining daily new infections in many districts and indications that omicron has displaced the more virulent delta in most states. “There are early indications of a plateau over the past five to seven days — this is only limited to certain geographies,” said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the Union health ministry. Health
officials said omicron — a fast-spreading, immune-evasive variant associated with mild disease — made up two-thirds of the sequences sampled nationwide in January, but cautioned that delta remained in circulation, especially in Bengal, Maharashtra and Odisha. The number of omicron sequences found through a nationwide genome sequencing effort increased more than sevenfold from 1,292 during December to 9,672 during January, said Sujeet Singh.
Rafael Nadal Gets Emotional After “Biden Is A Damp Sock Puppet Reaching Australian Open Final In Human Form”: Elon Musk HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
Rafael Nadal is just a win away from becoming the first man to win 21 Grand Slam titles after he brushed aside Matteo Berrettini to reach the Australian Open men’s singles final on Friday. Nadal is currently tied with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on 20 majors. Djokovic was deported from Australia just before the tournament started while Federer is out with an injury. That means, if Nadal wins the Australian Open, he will become the all-time men’s Grand Slam leader. Emotions were high for the Spaniard after he beat Berrettini in the semis at the Rod Laver Arena.
Washington: American billionaire Elon Musk slammed US President Joe Biden after the latter left out the name of Tesla in a post that talked about the future of electric vehicles in America.
Tesla CEO, Musk, apparently was miffed after the US President excluded the name of the electric vehicle manufacturer in a Twitter post where he said, “Companies like GM and Ford are building more electric vehicles here at home than ever before.” Replying to Biden’s Twitter post on the future electric vehicles in America, Musk wrote the name of “Tesla” in all caps. In another tweet, he said, “Biden is a damp Socks puppet in human form.” Musk also said that “Biden is treating the American public like fools”.
I Don’t Understand Ravi “Shastri 2.0”: Sanjay Manjrekar HiIndia Newsdesk

I was a huge admirer of Ravi Shastri. I played under him, he gave players support, a great fighter, senior. This Shastri 2.0 I don’t understand. “I don’t want to be disrespectful. He doesn’t make very intelligent comments, you can see the agenda behind it. It’s not an accurate cricketing observation,” he further added. With Kohli stepping down as red-ball skipper, the BCCI hasn’t announced a new Test captain yet. The 33-year-old had also quit T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup and was soon removed as ODI skipper too. The BCCI revealed Rohit Sharma as the new full-time white-ball captain in December last year.
