COP26: US joins India-led US prices rising at 6.2%, fastest rate for three decades global solar alliance HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
The United States on Wednesday joined the International Solar Alliance, becoming the 101st member of the India-led initiative that seeks to make solar energy accessible and affordable to all.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the development as “wonderful news”. “This will further strengthen the alliance in our shared quest for harnessing solar energy for a sustainable planet,” he said in a tweet. US Special Presidential Envoy on Climate John Kerry submitted the joining document at the India delegation office in Glasgow on Wednesday afternoon. “It has long been coming, and we are happy to join the International Solar Alliance, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the lead in making. We worked out the details and this is a process we are pleased to be part of,” Kerry said.
Americans' cost of living is rising faster than it has for three decades, with food and fuel driving the increases.
The consumer prices index for October showed prices rose 6.2% over the last
twelve months. It marks a sharp jump from September when prices were already rising at 5.4%. Inflation has been a growing concern for shoppers and policymakers this year as the impact of the pandemic persists. Rising prices for food, shelter, used cars and trucks and new vehicles were among the larger contributors, the Bureau for Labour Statistics said. Meat, fish and eggs rose more than other foodstuffs, while petrol, or gasoline, prices are at seven-year highs. Almost every sector saw some price inflation, except for airfares and alcoholic beverages.
Google loses appeal China Is Evading U.S. Spies —
in $2billion European Union antitrust case HiIndia Newsdesk
In a major ruling that bolsters the EU’s efforts to clamp down on the world’s largest technology companies, Google lost an appeal on Wednesday to overturn a landmark anti-trust ruling by European regulators against the Internet giant. The decision by the Luxembourg-based General Court related to a 2017 decision by the European Commission, the bloc’s executive branch, to fine Google $2.8 billion for giving preferential treatment to its own price-comparison shopping service over rival services.
and the White House Is Worried
Under Xi Jinping, China has become an even harder target for America’s spying operation. A lack of top-tier intelligence on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s inner circle is frustrating senior Biden administration officials struggling to get ahead of Beijing’s next steps, according to current and former officials who have reviewed the most sensitive U.S. intelligence reports. Those officials, who asked not to be identified discussing sensitive issues, say China is becoming a harder target, more opaque, just as the demand for insights into Xi’s decision-making is soaring and tensions with the U.S. are heating up over issues from Taiwan to high technology. That reality comes after officials in both the Trump and Biden administrations said they were surprised
by Beijing’s rapid moves to consolidate control of Hong Kong, project military power across the South China Sea, limit probes into the origins of Covid-19, undercut Chinese companies going public in the U.S. and ramp up hacking against adversaries. The current and former officials emphasize that America’s spy agencies have long struggled to provide the insights policy makers demand on China. The hurdles facing the U.S. intelligence community are both deep-seated — Beijing did significant damage to American spy networks in China prior to Xi’s presidency — and basic, including a continuing shortage of Mandarin speakers. “Our human intelligence has been lagging for decades,” former National Security Advisor John Bolton said in an interview, when asked about China. “I never feel I have enough intelligence. I’m always willing to hear more. I’m never satisfied. No decision maker should be.”
Uber sued by Justice Department Kyle Rittenhouse: US teen for overcharging disabled people gunman's lawyers seek mistrial HiIndia Newsdesk
The US Justice Department (DoJ) is suing ride-hailing app Uber over allegations it has been overcharging disabled people.
The DoJ claims Uber's "wait time" fees are discriminating against disabled passengers who need more than two minutes to get into a car. It says Uber needs to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). But Uber said wait time fees were not intended to apply to disabled riders and that it had been refunding fees. Kristen Clarke, assistance attorney general for the DoJ's civil rights division said the lawsuit aimed to
HiIndia Newsdesk
send a "powerful message that Uber cannot penalise passengers with disabilities simply because they need more time to get into a car". Uber and other companies that provide transportation services "must ensure equal access for all people, including those with disabilities," she added. However, Uber said it disagreed that its policies were in violation of the the ADA. A spokesman said the company had been in talks with the DoJ before the "surprising and disappointing" lawsuit. Wait time fees were "never intended for riders who are ready at their designated pickup location but need more time to get into the car", he said. Uber had a policy of refunding wait time fees for disabled riders whenever they alerted the firm that they had been charged, the spokesman said. "After a recent change last week, now any rider who certifies they are disabled will have fees automatically waived," he added.
Kyle Rittenhouse breaks down during testimony
Lawyers for a teenager charged with shooting three people amid civil unrest in Wisconsin last year have called for a mistrial. Kyle Rittenhouse's defence asked that the case be dismissed after the judge angrily rebuked prosecutors for airing apparently inadmissible evidence. Mr Rittenhouse, 18, sobbed earlier in court as he took the stand. He testified that he killed two men and
injured a third on 25 August 2020 on the streets of Kenosha in self-defence. Mr Rittenhouse is facing counts of reckless, intentional and attempted homicide after he fatally shot Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, 28. Riots erupted on the streets of the city two days earlier after police shot a black man, Jacob Blake. Mr Rittenhouse travelled to the city from his home in Illinois and, with a semi-automatic rifle in tow, he said he sought to help protect property from unrest on the streets. On Wednesday, day seven of the trial, lead prosecutor Thomas Binger and Judge Bruce Schroeder loudly quarrelled in court. Mr Binger's line of questioning incurred furious reprimands from Judge Schroeder, who accused him of violating pre-trial rulings on introducing evidence not relevant to the trial. "You're an experienced trial lawyer," shouted the judge. "I don't know what you're up to." The judge added: "When you say you were acting in good faith, I don't believe you."

China’s leaders ‘don’t understand variety of cultures’: Dalai Lama HiIndia Newsdesk
The 86-year-old Dalai Lama, taking part in an online news conference anchored in Tokyo, was answering a question about whether the international community should consider boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics over the suppression of minorities, including those in the western region of Xinjiang.
HiIndia Newsdesk
China and the US have agreed to boost climate co-operation over the next decade, in a surprise announcement at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
US climate envoy John Kerry said that "cooperation is the only way to get this done"
The world's two biggest CO2 emitters pledged to act in a joint declaration. It says both sides will "recall their firm commitment to work together" to achieve the 1.5C temperature goal set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement. They called for stepped-up efforts to
close the "significant gap" that remains to achieve that target. Scientists say that limiting global temperature rises to 1.5C will help humanity avoid the worst climate impacts. This is compared to pre-industrial temperatures. At Paris in 2015, world leaders pledged to try to keep the world from warming by more than between 1.5C to 2C through sweeping emissions cuts. China's top climate negotiator Xie Zhenhua told reporters that on climate change "there is more agreement between China and US than divergence". US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are expected to hold a virtual meeting as early as next week. The two countries are seen as global rivals on a number of issues.

Tibet’s spiritual leader the Dalai Lama criticised the leaders of China on Wednesday saying they “don’t understand the variety of different cultures” there and there is too much control by the main Han ethnic group. But he also said he had nothing against “Chinese brothers and sisters” as fellow humans and he broadly supported the ideas behind Communism and Marxism. The 86-year-old Dalai Lama, taking part in an online news conference anchored in Tokyo, was answering a question about whether the international community should consider boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics over the suppression of minorities, including those in the western region of Xinjiang. “I know Communist Party leaders since Mao Zedong. Their ideas (are) good. But sometimes they do much extreme, tight control,” he said from his base in India, adding he thought things would change in China under a new generation of leaders.”

Boeing agrees deal with families of Ethiopia crash victims HiIndia Newsdesk
Boeing has reached an agreement with the families of the 157 people who died in the Ethiopia 737 Max crash in 2019. The plane maker accepts liability for their deaths, according to court documents in Chicago.
In return, families of the victims will not seek punitive damages from the company. Lawyers for the victims' families said Boeing would still be held "fully accountable", welcoming the agreement as a significant milestone. Boeing shares fell 1% to $218.50 on the news. The agreement opens the way for families outside the US, in countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya, to claim compensation through the US courts, rather than in their home countries, which might be more difficult and result in lower payments. Mark Pegram in the UK, whose son Sam was one of the victims, said: "The main positive for us is that Boeing is admitting liability, and not diverting blame onto Ethiopian Airlines or the pilots... we wanted them to hold their hands up."
Iran will ratify the landmark Paris agreement on climate change only if sanctions against it are lifted, a senior leader has told the BBC. Ali Salajegheh said sanctions were impeding Iran in areas like renewable energy. Iran is the world's eighth largest CO2 emitter, yet is one of the few countries not to ratify the Paris pact.
Haiti water shortage: 'We pray for rain every day' HiIndia Newsdesk
A fuel shortage brought about by gangs blocking the access roads to distribution terminals is throwing Haiti into further chaos. Residents of the capital Port-au-Prince say they cannot get hold of drinking water as water pumps have stopped running due to the lack of petrol. Deliveries of bottled water have also been disrupted meaning that many residents have to rely on rain water. "We pray every day that it rains," one woman told Reuters news agency. National Police Chief Frantz Elbé said on Tuesday that measures taken so far to allow for the safe distribution of fuel had failed to work. Mr Elbé said that the police had set up a security corridor from the Varreux terminal in Port-auPrince and that goods such as rice, cooking oil and cement were getting through to consumers.

The coin is a fitting tribute to an influential leader who inspired millions of people around the world, Rishi Sunak said.

Available in a range of standards, including gold and silver, the special collectors'' coin is designed by Heena Glover and features an image of a lotus, India''s national flower, alongside one of Mr Gandhi's most famous quotes - "My life is my message". "This coin is a fitting tribute to an influential leader who inspired millions of people around the world," said Mr Sunak, in his role as the Master of the Mint in the UK. "As a practicing Hindu, I am proud to unveil this coin during Diwali. British-Sikh female Army officer Polar Preet sets off for South Pole adventure HiIndia Newsdesk
Captain Harpreet Chandi, known as Polar Preet, will be travelling 700 miles while pulling a pulk or sledge with all of her kit, battling temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of up to 60mph London: A 32-year-old British Sikh Army officer and physiotherapist is on a mission to become the first Indian-origin female to complete a solo, unsupported trek to the South Pole and is flying out to Chile on Sunday to begin her adventure. Captain Harpreet Chandi, known as Polar Preet, will be travelling 700 miles while pulling a pulk or sledge with all of her kit, battling temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of up to 60mph. Writing on her online blog, she notes that the journey will take approximately 45-47 days during which she plans to upload a live tracking map for people to be able to follow her daily voice blogs. “I want to take as many of you as possible on this journey with me so I hope you enjoy following,” writes Chandi. Currently based at a Medical Regiment in the north-west of England, Chandi’s primary role is
to organise and validate training for medics in the Army as Clinical Training Officer. She is completing her masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine, part time, at Queen Mary’s University in London and has been using two large tyres as a substitute for the heavy sledge she will be dragging along in Antarctica for her polar training. “Antarctica is the coldest, highest, driest and windiest continent on earth. Nobody lives there permanently. I didn’t know much about the continent when I first started planning and that is what inspired me to go there,” she explains. “Hopefully doing something that pushes me so far out of my comfort zone will inspire others to believe in themselves and push their boundaries. There are only a few female adventurers that have completed a solo, unsupported trek on this continent. It is time to add some more names, diversity and to make history,” she says.
Bathinda: Punjab-origin Swaranjit Singh (in pic) made history by becoming the first Sikh to get elected to a city council in Connecticut (USA). Swaranjit Singh Khalsa (36), who runs small businesses in Norwich where he lives with his wife and daughter, said the election speaks volumes about the fact that voters were acknowledging all the work he had been doing on the Board of Education and for equity and cultural awareness. Indian community in UAE hails new civil law for non-Muslims HiIndia Newsdesk
Abu Dubai: The Indian c om mu n it y i n t h e United Arab Emirates on Monday hailed the landmark new civil law for non-Muslims in Abu Dhabi, the capital and the second-most populous city of the Gulf nation, which has been introduced by the emirate with an aim to maintain its competitive edge as a regional commercial hub and emerge as the most attractive destination for talent and skills. In his capacity as the Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday issued a law to regulate personal status matters for non-Muslims in Abu Dhabi to provide a flexible and advanced judicial mechanism for the determination of personal status disputes for non-Muslims. The decision, which is the first of its kind in the world, will enhance the Emirate's position and global competitiveness as one of the most attractive destinations for talent and skills, the official WAM news agency reported. Reacting to the decision, Ipshita Sharma, International Publishing Sales Manager, termed it as "an incredible gesture for those of us who think of the UAE as home." "I have been here for 12 years now and it feels more and more like we're being included in the narrative of the country despite our religion, nationality and beliefs,” says Sharma, who is based in Dubai. The law, which is in line with international best practices, guarantees the right of non-Muslims to be subject to an internationally acknowledged law that is familiar to them in terms of culture, customs and language, according to a report in the Khaleej Times.

The police commissioner, advocate Karam Komireddy said that one needed to distinguish between a scene of offence or crime and a random search. “Police cannot conduct random checks. Taking away one’s phone is an infringement on the right to privacy. So, if police want to check someone’s phone, they are well within their rights but it has to be backed by an order. That is not the case here. Although certain provisions empower police to do so, there have to be cogent reasons to do it and they cannot do it randomly,” he said.

Missing top police officer HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
On 1 October, Indian authorities made a sensational announcement: the former police chief of Mumbai, the country's financial capital, was missing
P
arambir Singh, a high-profile officer with a swashbuckling reputation, had been elevated to head the 45,000-strong force barely two years ago. Now, Mr Singh, 59, was unavailable at office, his apartment in Mumbai and his family home in the northern city of Chandigarh, some 1,600km (994 miles) away. Even as the police launched a hunt to find one of their own, Mr Singh's family - his wife and daughter who lived with him in Mumbai and his son who is abroad - and his lawyers went silent about the officer's whereabouts. It all began in February with a fiendishly tangled whodunit involving an SUV full of explosives which was found outside the house of Mukesh Ambani, Asia's richest man. In the following days, the body of the alleged owner of the vehicle washed up in the sea near the city - the police later determined that he had been murdered and his body was dumped in the water. Things turned murkier when a police officer reportedly known to t he de ad man was arrested. Investigators believe Sachin
Vaze, an assistant inspector with the elite crime branch, was part of plans to park the car with explosives outside Mr Ambani's house and also in the murder of the vehicle owner. Mr Vaze has denied the allegations. In March, Mr Singh was removed from his position and moved to head Maharashtra's - of which Mumbai is the capital - home guards, a poorly-resourced force which assists the police. In Indian media-speak, Mr Singh had been "shunted" to a rather unglamorous department. "This is not a routine transfer. Being the head of Mumbai police, serious mistakes have been made by officers working at the police commissioner's office. These mistakes are serious and that's why he has been transferred," the state's then interior minister, Anil Deshmukh, said. It was never made clear what these errors were.He shot to limelight by working with "encounter policemen" - controversial crack shots belonging to a unique, unofficial policing system - to weed out gangsters who often held businessmen and film actors and producers to ransom. S Hussain Zaidi, a journalist who has chronicled crime in the city, wrote that Mr Singh along with another senior officer were "assigned the task of wiping out the underworld from the city" and the two "formed three elite encounter squads" for the job. Mr Singh is due to retire next year when he turns 60. "I am very much in India and have not left the country," Mr Singh told a journalist who spoke to him on the phone in August. Except his own force doesn't appear to know why he has not come forward, nor where he is.
Now What?
For all the bravado that has been strutted across the IPO red carpet, Falguni Nayar has displayed both her entrepreneurial chops and her financial expertise.
F
or Falguni Nayar, life has come full circle. As an investment banker at Kotak Mahindra Bank for close to two decades, Nayar steered many businesses into the equity market port. This time round, she brings her own labour of love – Nykaa – to the primary market, valued at a staggering $7 billion plus.
Valuation
Valuations for Nykaa are certainly expensive. Nykaa at IPO has been valued at a lofty 21.8 times FY21 EV to sales and 16.1 times FY22 enterprise value/sales on a post issue and annualised basis. The irony here is that even with those valuations, it is cheaper than some recent listed unicorns like CarTrade and Zomato. What stands out is Nykaa’s bottom-line; it is one of the rare unicorns that turned net profit positive in FY21. Nykaa’s revenue have grown at a brisk 48% CAGR over FY1921. It has also managed to keep a strong margin profile alongside – gross profit margins for the quarter was 40.6% compared to 39% for the full year FY21. By the end of its first trading session, Nykaa trades at an eye-popping 18.5x -19x FY24E sales.
Fashion
While Nykaa has enjoyed first mover advantage in the BPC market, the going may not be as smooth with its fashion foray. It’s a highly populated space and one that has many existing players. As Elara Capital points out, successful execution in the fashion segment is the key to a valuation re-rating for Nykaa in the mid-to-long term as it doesn’t enjoy the first-mover advantage in the fashion segment.
11
That’s currently dominated by incumbents like Ajio, Myntra, Amazon, Flipkart etc.
Own brand vs others
Nayar has stated that the fashion and beauty unicorn plans to enter the Middle East market initially and is also looking at the UK, which may lead its way into other countries in Europe. She has also voiced her vision of transforming the company plans from a multi-brand retailer into a ‘house of brands’ going ahead. But the trick will be maintaining brands on an “even platform” and not pushing or promoting Nykaa’s own brand, something Amazon has done quite aggressively. The other potential downside for Nykaa is ironically its own customer base. Just like the FMCG market, the BPC space can see quite a bit of elasticity and downtrading – to put it simply, in an environment where spending and consumption drops, consumers quickly shift to a lower priced product for the same item, or as could be the case for BPC, even a knock-off lip liner or moisturiser. No such bonhomie was evident for Nykaa. With a market cap of Rs 1 lakh crore, looks like they don’t need it either.

The medicine is meant for adults who are at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 or hospitalization.
New Delhi: Emergency Use Authorisation for the Merck drug Molnupiravir -- an oral antiviral medicine for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 -- is likely "within days", Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Chairman of the Covid Strategy Group, CSIR, told on Wednesday. The medicine is meant for adults who are at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 or hospitalization. Another pill from Pfizer, Paxlovid, may take some more time, he added.
The two drugs, he said, will make a difference and "as we move from pandemic to endemic, these are the ones which are going to be more important than vaccination". Calling the drugs the "final nail in the coffin of the virus by science", he said, "I think Molnupiravir will be already available to us. Five companies are sitting with the drug manufacturer... I think any day we will have approval of Molnupiravir". Data for Molnupiravir has been "sitting with the regulator" here before the UK regulator's approval, he said. "So already SECs are looking at it. And I think they will they will get faster approval now. And therefore, it would it be safe to say that within the next one month, there would be a decision on approval for the Merck drug". Pfizer has said according to clinical trial, its Paxlovid cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by 89 per cent in vulnerable adults.
Covid-19: No Bali Yatra Kerala government suspends senior cop over in Cuttack this year links with alleged conman HiIndia Newsdesk
The famous Bali Yatra in Cuttack will not be held for the second consecutive year with the district administration deciding against it in view of the Covid-19 epidemic. The weeklong festival that recalls Odisha’s rich maritime tradition begins every year on the Kartik Purnima day which falls on November 19 this year. The yatra, organised on the banks of Mahanadi river in the silver city (Cuttack), commemorates the business trips that traders of the state used to make through the sea route to far away islands such as Bali, Sumatra and Java in Indonesia. Odisha in those days was known the world over for its maritime trade links with different countries and the boat making skills of its people. Bali Yatra festival not only brings back those memories but also offers traders a big business opportunity with stalls being put up at the fairground on the bank of Mahanadi. Business worth around Rs 500 crore takes place almost every year during the yatra.

Bio-bubble fatigue
Nawab Malik said Fadnavis has “connections with underworld” and that he, as Chief Minister, protected those behind a fake currency racket probed by Sameer Wankhede Mumbai: Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik today dropped a “hydrogen bomb” - which the BJP laughed off as a phuljhadi - in the ongoing back-andforth with ex-Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that began with the arrest of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case. Mr Malik said the senior BJP leader had “connections with underworld members” and that he, as Chief Minister, protected those behind a fake currency notes racket investigated by Sameer Wankhede - the NCB officer removed from the Aryan Khan case over R. 8 crore payoff claims. He also accused Mr Fadnavis of “diverting my issue”, and said the former Chief Minister was trying to “defend one officer (Mr Wankhede) ... a man who is framing innocent people in fake cases”; Mr Malik has routinely accused the opposition BJP of using the antidrugs agency to entrap Aryan Khan. An hour later Mr Fadnavis responded with a quote from author George Bernard Shaw that said: “I learned long ago never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.” HiIndia Newsdesk
BCCI will take the lead in resting players
Until now, the selectors used to take a call on players to be rested for a series. But with fatigue being listed as one of the key reasons for the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup, sources said the BCCI wants to prevent biobubbles from taking a toll on the mental well-being of overworked players.
TAKING NOTE of comments from top Indian cricket stars, such as Virat Kohli, about exhaustion due to playing in bio-bubbles without adequate breaks, the BCCI will now assess and decide on the workload management of players — before the selectors pick a team. New coach Rahul Dravid will be part of this process along with BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Dravid had referred to player fatigue as an issue to be addressed when he appeared before the Cricket Advisory Committee earlier this month. “The BCCI will decide on which player needs to be rested depending on how much cricket is being played. We are aware of the fatigue issue. The player who has been rested will get his place back in the team even if the replacement does well,” a BCCI official told. Ahead of the T20 World Cup game against Pakistan in which India was outplayed, Kohli had called for a balanced approach to workload management. “I understand we’ve lost some time without cricket (during the pandemic) but in trying to cover that up, if you lose players then world cricket is not going to be better off. So there has to be a balance in the future,” he said.

Chennai floods: Heavy rains bring Indian city to standstill HiIndia Newsdesk
Heavy showers and thunderstorms have caused severe flooding in the southern Indian city of Chennai.
No deaths have been reported, but officials in the state of Tamil Nadu, of which Chennai is the capital, have issued warnings to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Local media footage showed uprooted trees and cars submerged as water quickly rose to block roads. This is the heaviest rainfall in the city since 2015. Although the city is frequently hit with heavy rains this time of the year, experts say unchecked development and bad urban planning leads to the destruction and chaos. Climate change caused by global warming has also contributed to the problem, making extreme rainfall more likely and more frequent. On Sunday, parts of Chennai faced power cuts for several hours as the power department shut off supply as a precautionary measure to avoid incidents of electrocution. The National Disaster Response Force and the army are helping in the rescue work.

Players should prioritise nation over IPL: Kapil Dev HiIndia Newsdesk
World Cup-winning former India captain Kapil Dev believes the country’s cricketers “prioritise IPL” over national assignments and the onus is on the BCCI to make better schedules to avoid the “mistakes” committed during the ongoing T20 World Cup. India failed to make it to the semifinals of the ICC event, paying heavily for the back-to-back early losses in the Super 12 stage. New Zealand clinched the last available semifinal spot on Sunday to knock Virat Kohli’s men out of the tournament.
According to Mediapart, the CBI received a set of documents, which included the ‘fake invoices’, from the attorney-general’s office in Mauritius on October 11, 2018. New Delhi: French investigative website Mediapart on Monday published a set of “fake invoices” that it claimed allowed aircraft maker Dassault Aviation to pay over seven million euros in kickbacks to influential defence middleman Sushen Gupta between 2007 and 2012. Gupta is currently the subject of a money laundering investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the VVIP chopper scam. Reports published by Mediapart earlier this year exposed Gupta’s deep business connections to Dassault and Thales over a 15-year period, which allegedly involved paying him “several million euros in secret commissions to offshore accounts and shell companies” using inflated invoices for software consulting.

El Paso CBP Officials Discuss Upcoming Travel Restriction Changes HiIndia Newsdesk
EL PASO, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are asking for preparedness and patience as travelers are able to take advantage of the first stage of re-opening following pandemic travel restrictions.
Beginning in March 2020, to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, travel across the land border into the U.S. has been restricted to essential travel only. While U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents of the U.S. were able to cross the border, travel by visa holders from other nations was not permitted for non-essential reasons, such as tourism or family visits. On November 8, fully vaccinated foreign nationals with appropriate documents for entry will be permitted to cross into the U.S. from Mexico at land border crossings for non-essential reasons again. These travelers are required to be prepared to attest to vaccination status and to present proof of vaccination to a CBP officer upon request. By January, foreign nationals traveling across the land border for both essential and non-essential reasons will be required to be fully vaccinated. This includes individuals who have previously been crossing the border for essential travel, such as work or medical appointments.

The change Monday effectively lifted an extended travel ban on tourists from 33 countries, including European Union members, China, India, and Iran, the Associated Press reported. With world number one and holder Ash Barty sitting out this week’s WTA Finals, the only certainty for the eight players competing at the season-ending showdown in Guadalajara, Mexico, is that a new champion will be crowned. Barty, who counts Wimbledon among the five titles she captured this season, said last month that she would end her 2021 season early due to COVID-19 travel and quarantine restrictions in Australia and start preparing for her home Grand Slam in Melbourne in January. Her absence means world number four Karolina Pliskova, who is competing in her fifth consecutive WTA Finals, and Spanish No. 5 Garbine Muguruza, back for the first time since 2017, are the only two players with previous experience in the event. The rest of the field for the Nov. 10-17 WTA Finals will consist of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (No. 2), Czech Barbora Krejcikova (No. 3), Greece’s Maria Sakkari (No. 6), Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit (No. 8), Poland’s Iga Swiatek (No. 9) and Spain’s Paula Badosa (No. 10).
Rohit Sharma To Lead India In T20I Series Against New Zealand, Virat Kohli Rested HiIndia Newsdesk

Rahul has been appointed vice-captain of the 16-member squad. Virat Kohli, who stepped down from India's T20I captaincy at the end of the team's campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup, and premier paceman Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the series. Sources in the BCCI told NDTV that while several senior players were rested, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was dropped from the squad. Hardik scored a total of 69 runs in the three innings that he played in the T20 World Cup. He bowled a total of four overs in two matches and went for 40 runs without picking up any wickets.

Rohit Sharma "Best Man" For India's T20I Captaincy: Gavaskar HiIndia Newsdesk
Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has backed Rohit Sharma to do well as Team India captain in T20Is, saying that the Indian team management doesn't have to think long-term in terms of appointment to the role. Gavaskar pointed out that the next edition of the T20 World Cup will be played in Australia in 2022. Virat Kohli's tenure as T20I skipper ended with a disappointing T20 World Cup in the UAE. "Long term is in case the next World Cup is maybe two or three years away. The next World Cup (T20) is just 10-12 months away. You don't really have to look long term then," said Gavaskar. "But right now, you have to look at the best man who can guide India to an ICC trophy. And that man is Rohit Sharma with his record for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, he is the obvious choice. So, I think, he should be given the captaincy and maybe after the next year's World Cup is done in Australia, maybe have a look at another T20 captain, but right now it's only Rohit," he added. India will host New Zealand for a three-match T20I series, starting from November 17 in Jaipur. Both teams will also play two Tests, in Kanpur and Mumbai.

HEALTH
Slashes Your Risk of Heart Attack
If you're someone who takes their heart health seriously, there's a good chance you have a daily routine. After all, staving off cardiovascular disease typically involves maintaining a good diet and exercising regularly. But according to a study, there's also a daily supplement that can significantly reduce your risk of having a heart attack. Read on to see what you should be adding to your health regimen.
The researchers concluded high omega-3 oils consumption should be part of a heart-healthy routine.

Taking daily omega-3 Results also found that daily supplements can greatly reduce higher doses reduced the risk your risk of a heart attack. of heart attack even more. In 2019, a team of researchers at Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston performed a meta-analysis to better understand the potential link between high consumption of omega-3 fish oi l supplements and improve d cardiovascular health. Overall, the group considered 13 studies from around the world that included data from over 120,000 participants. Results of the analysis found that people who took a daily omega-3 fish oil supplement saw a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease other than strokes compared with those who took a placebo. Specifically, those who took an omega-3 supplement daily saw an eight percent risk reduction of heart attack or death from coronary heart disease.
The study's authors concluded that an eight percent reduction might seem like an insignificant number in terms of risk reduction. But given the millions of cardiovascular disease-related deaths reported each year, they argued that the numbers could potentially translate into hundreds of thousands of lives saved. "Although public health recommendations should focus on increasing fish consumption, having an overall hearthealthy diet, being physically active, and having other healthy lifestyle practices, this study suggests that omega-3 supplementation may have a role in appropriate patients," JoAnn Manson, MD, the study's senior author, said in a statement. The meta-analysis wasn't the first to link omega-3s with significant health benefits—whether it's in supplement
Besides regular consumption, the study also found that quantity also had a positive effect on heart health. Data revealed that those who ingested more than the typical daily dosage of 840 milligrams of omega-3 fish oil per day saw an even greater reduction in their risk of cardiovascular disease. "This meta-analysis provides the most up-to-date evidence regarding the effects of omega-3 supplementation on risk of multiple CVD [cardiovascular disease] outcomes," Yang Hu, the study's first author and a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Nutrition at Harvard Chan School, said in a press release from the university. "We found significant protective effects of daily omega-3 supplementation against most CVD outcome risks, and the associations appeared to be in a doseresponse manner."
form or its natural state. In one such study published in BMJ in 2018, researchers followed 2,622 adults with an average age of 74 from 1992 and 2015 to see if they developed any chronic diseases or other mental or physical ailments. fter investigators measured the level of certain omega-3 oils in participants' blood samples, results found that those in the top one-fifth percentile of high omega-3 levels were 18 percent less likely to show signs of unhealthy aging, The New York Times reports. "In our study, we found that adults with higher blood levels of omega-3s from seafood were more likely to live longer and healthier lives. So it is a great idea to eat more fish," Heidi T.M. Lai, PhD, the study's lead author and a postdoctoral fellow at Tufts University, said.
Never Use This Popular Ingredient Never Wear These Kinds of When Cooking, CDC Warns Shoes If You Have Back Pain
Luster dusts—typically used to add a decorative sheen or sparkle to baked goods—have gained popularity in recent years. However, the CDC warns that consuming decorative ingredients that aren't explicitly marked as edible or safe for consumption puts you at risk of serious illness. "Labeling indicating that a product is nontoxic does not imply that the product is safe for consumption," warns the CDC. "Luster dusts that are safe for consumption are typically marked 'edible' on the label. Some luster dusts used as cake decorations are not edible or food grade; labeled as 'nontoxic' or 'for decorative purposes only,' these luster dusts are intended to be removed before consumption," the health authority adds. Though use of luster dust has become widespread in the world of baking, experts say that consuming inedible versions of the product may put you at risk of heavy metal poisoning. Heavy metal poisoning occurs when the body's soft tissue accumulates toxic levels of these metals, according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). NORD warns that "serious damage may occur" in events of metal poisoning, with arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury being the metals most frequently associated with heavy metal poisoning cases. While our bodies need some heavy metals—including copper, chromium, iron, and zinc—to function, these can become toxic when present in large quantities.
High heels are often associated with back pain, and for good reason.
Wearing heels, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) says, can force your center of gravity forward, which will cause you to involuntarily arch your back when you stand. Wearing them also makes your spine sway unnaturally from side to side as you shift your weight while walking, per Women's Health. The muscles in your feet connect to your calf muscles and your hamstrings, which connect into your pelvis and back. To wit, if your heel is unhappy, your back will be, too. "High heels put the foot at an angle and pull muscles and joints out of alignment, so the effects aren't limited to the feet," Sajid A. Surve, DO, an associate professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, told the AOA. "It's not unusual for people who spend lots of time in high heels to have low back, neck, and shoulder pain because the shoes disrupt the natural form of the body."
flip flops can cause ankle injuries or worse.
According to Prevention magazine, flip flops require that you scrunch your toes up to keep them on, often forcing you to overcompensate in your hips and back. Flip flops can also tire you out: Because you're scrunching your toes as you're walking, you'll naturally have a shorter step. Plus, flip flops don't offer any support for your arches, so you're slamming your foot down with each step.

As expected, the actor was spotted in many looks, and we must say that she stood out in all — giving massive ethnic style goals. A faithful copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa dating from more than 400 years ago will go under the hammer at a Paris auction on Tuesday, months after another reproduction of one of the world’s most recognisable portraits sold for a record price. Leonardo’s original, which French King Francois I bought from the painter in 1518, can be found in Paris’ Louvre museum and is not for sale. But the copy that is on sale, dating from around 1600, is so similar to the original that it is likely that the artist had close access to Leonardo’s version, the Artcurial auction house said. It estimates the copy will fetch 150,000-200,000 euros ($173,000$230,000). “Mona Lisa is the most beautiful woman in painting,” Artcurial’ auction house expert and auctioneer, Matthieu Fournier, said as the painting went on public display ahead of the sale.

‘Alpine girl’ Treks to 50 high-altitude lakes in Kashmir Braving arthritis, a Bengaluru woman created a record of sorts by trekking to 50 high-altitude lakes, located about 10,000 feet above sea level, in Kashmir within a span of four months, earning the sobriquet of ‘Alpine Girl’. Probably the first female to trek to these high-altitude lakes, Namratha Nandish, who stays in the Bengaluru’s Bellandur area, started with Tulian Lake, which is sandwiched between the Pir Panjal and the Zanskar mountain ranges in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, and concluded with Shilsar Lake in the higher reaches of the AnantnagKishtwar area. Alpine lakes are located above 10,000 feet from sea level. “Nothing was predetermined. It all started with an idea of my husband, Abhishek, adding a visit to Srinagar in the previous winters. He wanted to see the frozen Dal Lake,” says Nandish. “Work hard and play hard. On my weekends, I packed my bags and joined a trekking group to achieve my goal which started with Tulian Lake,” she said. Her local trek leader Syed Tahir, who accompanied her to most of the lakes, recalled his meeting with the Bengaluru women.

Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik said the ICU had been newly built to treat Covid patients, and the fact that a fire had broken out was a “very serious issue”
Ahmednagar: Ten patients have died after a fire broke out in the ICU (intensive care unit) of the Civil Hospital in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar at around 11 am today. Another patient has been seriously injured. The fire was in the hospital’s COVID-19 ward, in which 17 patients had been admitted. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has ordered a probe into the tragedy. The remaining patients have been shifted to a Covid ward in another hospital, District Collector Dr Rajendra Bhosle told reporters, adding that a ‘fire audit’ of the structure had been conducted. The cause of the blaze, which has now been extinguished, is as yet unknown, but preliminary investigations by the fire department suggest it started due to an electrical short circuit, Dr Bhosle said. Visuals show smoke pouring out of the lower floors of the hospital. Others show some people slowly re-entering the ward after the fire was put out, with soot-stained walls and broken ceiling panels visible.
Ravindra Jadeja’s Twist In Aryan Khan Case? BJP Leader Makes Epic Reply Sensational Claims HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
BJP leader Mohit Kamboj has said there’s a threat to his life after his press conference today.
Eight killed after crowd surge at Texas festival HiIndia Newsdesk
When asked about this scenario during the press conference post India’s win over Scotland, Ravindra Jadeja came up with a blunt answer to leave everybody in splits. If Afghanistan beat New Zealand, only then do we have a chance. But what if Afghanistan can’t beat New Zealand, then? asked a journalist. “Toh phir bag pack karke ghar jayenge, aur kya (Then, we will pack our bags and go home, what else,” replied Jadeja.
At least eight people have died and scores of people have been hurt after a crowd surge on the opening night of a music festival in Houston, Texas.
Panic broke out after the crowd began to press towards the front of the stage at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, emergency officials said. Eleven people were taken to hospitals in cardiac arrest and eight died. Some 300 people were treated for injuries such as cuts and bruises at the event, attended by 50,000 people. Local politician Lina Hidalgo, county judge of Harris County, described what had happened as an “extremely tragic night”. “Our hearts are broken,” she said. “People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories - it’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities.” The incident began around 21:15 on Friday (02:15 GMT Saturday), Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said. “The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic,” he told reporters. According to the Houston Chronicle, Travis Scott, who founded the festival, stopped multiple times during his 75-minute performance when he spotted fans in distress near the front of the stage.
Mumbai: A “fake narrative” is being created around the drugs-on-cruise case involving Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, BJP Mumbai leader Mohit Kamboj has alleged. He has suggested that some Maharashtra ministers might be trying to extort money from Mr Khan and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has links to the high profile drugs case. NCP leader Nawab Malik has called the allegations an “unsuccessful attempt to misguide and divert the attention from the truth”. He further said he will “reveal the truth” tomorrow. Mr Kamboj claimed a man named Sunil Patil, who he says is an NCP leader close to former state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, is the mastermind behind the “conspiracy” in the case.

Ambanis Deny Move To UK HiIndia Newsdesk
Reliance Industries Limited said a recent report “has led to unwarranted and baseless speculation in social media regarding the Ambani family’s plans to partly reside in Stoke Park, London.”
New Delhi: After several reports claimed Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family are likely to move to London, following their acquisition of Stoke Park estate there, the Reliance group on Friday issued a statement rejecting the “baseless” reports. “A recent report in a newspaper has led to unwarranted and baseless speculation in social media regarding the Ambani family’s plans to partly reside in Stoke Park, London,” the statement said. The company said it would like to clarify that Mr Ambani and his family have “no plans whatsoever to relocate or reside in London or anywhere else in the world.”
