Biden builds momentum with lead in Georgia US correspondents and others on social media are pointing out that Donald Trump could well be taking a hit in the states of Georgia and Arizona because of his earlier criticism of two American heroes. Biden currently has a lead in both states, which have voted Republican in recent presidential elections, although not all votes have been counted yet. Trump has repeatedly attacked the late Arizona Senator John McCain, questioning whether he should be considered a US war hero because he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Last year, Trump said McCain "didn't get the job done for our great vets and the VA" by refusing to repeal Obamacare and attacked him for "a war in the Middle East", in reference to the senator's support for the Iraq War. "Not my kind of guy," the president said. "But some people like

him and I think that's great." Meanwhile, Trump appears to be falling behind in Clayton County, Georgia, which is the home district of the late Democratic Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis. In 2017, Lewis questioned Trump's legitimacy as a president, pointing to an investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election. Trump responded by saying that Lewis was "all talk" and should focus on his constituents. "Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime-infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. Days after schools reopened in Uttarakhand for class 10 and class 12, over 80 teachers in 20 government schools have tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection in Pauri Garhwal district. The administration has closed these schools for five days and has directed to start contact-tracing to check if the infection has spread among the students who attended the classes taken by those teachers. Schools in the state reopened on Monday this week after the state government decided to permit the schools to reopen for classes 10 and 12, issuing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for precautionary measures. Chief Education Officer Madan Singh Rawat of Pauri district told The Indian Express that 80 teachers have tested positive in 20 different government schools in four blocks of Pauri, Kot, Khirsu, and Paabo.

Govt yet to take call on China’s entry into 5G, says Union home secretary

HiIndia Newsdesk The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has announced the commencement of the countdown for the launch of the 51st mission of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The carrier will deliver 10 satellites as its payload with EOS-01 as the primary satellite. An announcement on Isro’s website said that the PSLV rocket will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, tentatively on November 7 at 3:20pm. The primary payload would be the earth observation satellite EOS-01 designed for its uses in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. The space agency has also planned to launch nine other customer satellites - one R2 satellite from Lithuania, four Kleos (KSM 1A/1B/1C/1D) satellites from Luxembourg and four Lemur satellites (Lemur 1/2/3/4) from the United States. The carrier vehicle that is the PSLV C49 is a fourstage rocket and measures 44.5m in total height, as per statistics released by Isro.

HiIndia Newsdesk Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday said the government has not taken any call on allowing Chinese telecom companies to enter into the 5G trials in India but acknowledged that the penetration of the neighbouring country into the existing network is too extensive. Bhalla, however, also made it clear that the government is making special safeguards to ensure safety and security of the country’s communication network. “On 5G, the government in any case has not taken any call. Discussions are still on...when it will be allowed and who are the people to be allowed. Point is very valid. The penetration of existing telecom hardware and software is too extensive,” he said at the Diamond Jubilee webinar organised by National Defence College. He was replying to a question on participation of Chinese telecom players in India’s 5G trials. The home secretary said unless India gets a substitute, the existing facilities cannot be closed down abruptly.

HiIndia Newsdesk A Punjabi truck driver, who killed 16 Canadian junior hockey players and injured 13 others by jumping red light in April 2018, faces deportation to India. Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, 31, crashed his semitrailer into a bus carrying the hockey players at an intersection near the town of Armley in Saskatchewan province on April 6, 2018.

Driving almost at the speed of 100 kmph, Sidhu didn't heed the red light signal, ramming his semi-trailer into the bus which was already in the intersection. Sidhu, who came to Canada from Punjab in 2013, was sentenced to eight years for each of the 16 deaths and five years for dangerous driving in March 2019. Since he is just a permanent resident not a citizen of Canada, Sidhu faces deportation to India. The deportation decision by immigration authorities is likely to come by April 2021.Sidhu's lawyer Michael Greene said on Thursday that since his client has no criminal background, he should not be deported. Indians biggest beneficiaries as Canada to admit 401,000 new immigrants

However, what isn’t good news for the Trump campaign is that Biden is narrowing the gap in Georgia and Pennsylvania. In an early morning press conference Wednesday, Trump accused the Biden campaign of election fraud and vowed to move the US Supreme Court over the results. Despite drawing criticism, Trump’s campaign went ahead to confirm it would formally request a Wisconsin recount, citing “irregularities in several Wisconsin counties.” It also filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Michigan before the projections were made, laying the groundwork for contesting the outcome in these key battleground states.

The move would benefit over 2.91 lakh employees, an official release here said. Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ category workers and employees working in all profit/loss-making public sector undertakings will be given a bonus of 8.33 per cent and an ex-gratia of 1.67 per cent. Eligible permanent workers will receive a bonus and ex-gratia of Rs. 8,400 each. The governments gesture will enable workers of PSUs to celebrate the festival in a dignified and special way, the release said.

Ajay Devgn in war mode post Diwali

fter eight months of lockdown, Ajay Devgn is ready to don the Indian Air Force uniform again as he steps out to resume work on Bhuj: The Pride of India. It is heard that the actor will join Sanjay Dutt, Sharad Kelkar and Ammy Virk for a 12day schedule this month that will see them canning some action sequences and a few dramatic scenes. A trade source reveals that Devgn and director Abhishek Dudhaiya are currently determining the location for the shoot. "Given the prevailing scenario, the production team is hunting for a location that meets their safety demands. The final schedule is likely to kick off post Diwali. Sanjay, who is currently with his family in Dubai, will fly down after the festival to join the proceedings. After Ajay finishes his portions by the monthend, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi and the rest of the cast will be called for the patchwork." Sean Connery passed away on Saturday aged 90. He is known globally as the first James Bond, but the actor’s second career defining moment came when he starred as Irish cop Jimmy Malone in The Untouchables, which earned him his first and only Oscar trophy. The film was an adaptation of Eliot Ness’s autobiography, co-written with Oscar Fraley. It was published in 1957. Hence, I don't worry if I lose out on endorsements or film projects," said the "Mirzapur" actor. He feels that one should primarily work for love. "I often let go of lucrative offers if they don't match my value system. I am a sentimental man who decides from his heart and works for the sheer joy of art. I am thankfully past that phase where I worked for survival," said Tripathi. "Quality is important to me and I want my work to create a rich legacy that will inspire many more artistes like me. Known for his different storytelling skills, passion for cinema and love for Gujarati films, Kakkad had a heart attack in his sleep. The notable director was in Kolkata to celebrate his son's birthday. The untimely death of the 49-year-old, who is often known as a cinema purist, has left the industry shaken and devastated. Kakkad's friend and music composer Nishit Mehta, in conversation with a publication, said that he has lost a brother. Mehta and Kakkad have collaborated on quite a few projects. Just last week the late actor-filmmaker was at the composer’s studio for a recording. “I cannot fathom this," Mehta said. "Ashish was in Kolkata for his son’s birthday. He suffered a massive cardiac stroke at 3.50 pm in his sleep. The family’s planning to bring him back to Ahmedabad,” revealed Mehta to Mumbai Mirror. Kakkad's directorial debut was in 2010, with Better Half. The film was set in a changed urban milieu and was viewed as a contrast to the convention of portraying social issues in rural backdrop. His second directorial venture was Mission Mummy in 2016. Kakkad had acted in various movies including a couple of Hindi films including late Sushant Singh Rajput's Kai Po Che! Actor Bhakti Kubavat, in conversation with Mumbai Mirror, fondly remembered the director. “This is insane! I am speechless right now,” Kubavavat said.

The other accused has been identified as Rehan who is a resident of Nuh district in Haryana, the police said. he incident took place on Monday afternoon at around 4 p.m. when the deceased Nikita Tomar was returning from Aggarwal College after an exam. The two men tried to abduct the victim and when she resisted, one of the accused pulled out a revolver and fired at her, the police said.

Singer Vijay Yesudas, son of beloved musician KJ Yesudas, was involved in a car accident. Vijay’s car collided with another oncoming vehicle in Thuravoor on the national highway in Alappuzha district on Monday night. Vijay suffered no injuries. According to the police, the singer was en route to Kochi along with a friend when the accident occurred. The front portion of both the cars were damaged in the accident.

New features, more peace of mind

The MSI GF65 Thin comes with a 6GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics chip and a 15.6-inch 1080p display with 120Hz refresh rate. So, straight off the bat you know that graphics and display are in place. For almost all purposes, these configurations should work just fine. However, there’s only 8GB of memory on this, so you might want to add on some more eventually. For someone like me, that didn’t seem to be a matter of concern, but like I said, I am not this laptop’s intended audience.

Compared to how gaming laptops are expected to look - sharp lines and RGB lights everywhere - the MSI GF65 Thin is rather understated with its reds and blacks - which is rather refreshing to be honest. With its all-black metallic lid, black plastic body and the dragon logo in red along with the red backlit keyboard, this laptop looks like a no-nonsense beast that’s just on your desk to get the work done. MSI GF65 Thin seems to be a laptop you can consider if you are looking to move from a non-gaming one to a gaming one.

yson has been pushing premium air purifiers into the Indian market for a few years now and this year it has refreshed its unique line up with the Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool. This one is unique too and as the name suggests humidifies the air as it goes about cleaning it and offering a fan-like breeze too. However, the design is a lot like the earlier models, but there are interesting changes. At the bottom of the air purifiers, just below Dyson’s patented motors, is a transparent compartment which you fill with water. It is this water that is used to humidify the air. If there is no water in this container, then the humidifying is switched off on its own. With the humidifier on, you can feel that the air is a bit cooler that it should be. Dyson claims indoor air which is more dry because of air conditioners or room heaters, can actually let bacteria thrive. This is why humidifiers help in such conditions. The other change is that the tower itself does not swivel like before. Instead, there are these grooves inside the tower that open up and move to both sides when you want to oscillate the air. I found this to be a cleaner way to do it, though the theatre of the swivelling tower is now gone. There is also the diffused mode where the grooves point backward and breeze does not hit you directly.

n the surface, the Hero 9 Black hasn’t changed in terms of design and that is a good thing. It looks like the GoPro I expect it to be and is small enough to slip in my pocket. The exterior frame is metal, with rubber around the edges and on the front. It has a tough build and is made to survive drops; it’s also waterproof up to 33 feet. Like its predecessor, the Hero 9 Black has built-in mounting clips – they simply fold into the bottom and are secured magnetically. My review unit included a mounting foot and screw, as well as other mounts. Of course, there are visible changes when you compare the Hero 9 Back with the previous-generation models. For the first time, GoPro has added a front-facing LCD colour screen for framing self-shots. The 1.4-inch colour screen may be small in size, but can be really useful for Vloggers and YouTubers. The logic behind the front screen is to give users a preview of their shots and correct the frame as needed. Images are sharp and colours are warmer – but I did not face any noticeable noise in captured photos. In fact, I was surprised to see the quality of the images taken using the Hero 9. While I won’t say the image quality is as good as the one seen on the iPhone 11, the images look sharp and vibrant when viewed on a smartphone. When dropping down to 1080p, it pushes the frame rate to 240 frames per second.

Apple has announced a “One More Thing” event for November 10th, which will presumably see the company announce its first Arm-based Macs that run on Apple Silicon chips instead of the Intel processors the company has used since 2005. The language here is particularly notable: the “One More Thing” phrase has long been used by Apple — particularly by former CEO Steve Jobs — in keynotes for significant product announcements. The last time Apple used the phrase was for the announcement of the iPhone X in 2017. Even the augmented reality teaser that Apple has been recently including in its event invitations seems to point to a Mac, showing an animated Apple logo rising up towards the viewer just like it would when opening the lid of one of the company’s laptops.

For the most part, it seems like things will largely stay the same. But that’s still an important development: TikTok has been working toward cutting new details with the major record groups since it exploded in popularity to ensure that it doesn’t lose some of the world’s top songs, and this appears to be the first deal locked in. TikTok is paying “a significant increase” over its previous licensing deal, according to Bloomberg. The companies are also supposed to work together on ways to promote Sony artists and “greater levels of TikTok user personalization.”

Amazon may be looking to handle its own deliveries to rural areas rather than relying on the US Postal Service, according to several job postings, The Information reported on Monday. The e-commerce behemoth would rely on shipping hubs in rural areas under a plan called “wagon wheel,” a reference to Amazon’s hub-and-spoke supply chain. In Amazon’s terminology, a wagon wheel station provides support for smaller shipping facilities, according to The Information. Tram Runs Off Track, Plunges And Lands On A Statue

The conductor emerged shocked but unharmed and there were no passengers on board. The statue, coincidentally entitled "Saved by a Whale's Tale", had not been intended to actually save a train.

"But it's really lucky that the tail can bear the weight of the train." The suspended tram car could be seen by passers-by in the streets below. Amid calls on social media to leave it as a permanent addition to the artwork, Rotterdam Metro and local officials said it would not be safe.

10-Foot Python Found Under The Hood Of A Car

A huge Burmese python somehow snaked its way under the hood of a car in Florida, giving its owner an unpleasant surprise. Wildlife officers were called to a business in Dania Beach, Florida, on Thursday, reports CNN. They were tasked with removing the huge python from the engine compartment of a Ford Mustang. Maor Blumenfeld said people at the business found the snake when they opened to the vehicle's hood to investigate the check engine light. He recorded a video of Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission officers removing the huge snake from the car. The scary footage was later shared by FWC on social media. "We received a call about a large python under the hood of a blue Mustang!" they wrote while sharing the footage. "Our officers quickly responded and safely captured and removed the approximately 10-foot invasive snake." "Nope, would never get in that car again," wrote one person in the comments section.

The thoughtful appeal from Burger King has been widely praised on social media. Many Twitter users praised the fast-food chain for their "classy" message urging support for rivals. "This is class, from a Taco Bell fan," wrote one Twitter user in the comments section. "This is outstanding marketing, supporting people who really do need the support of the nation right now. The Queens community came together on Oct. 23 to witness the installation of the new local landmark as the intersection of 101st Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in Richmond Hill was officially given a new name, according to reports. The street has now been named Punjab Avenue as a part of a celebration commemorating the contributions made to Queens by its South Asian residents. “Today is a celebration of our great multicultural mosaic. It is so important that diverse communities like ours see themselves and their cultures represented in the historical landscape and we see the Punjabi community in every corner of Richmond Hill and our city as a whole,” said City Councilwoman Adrienne Adams, according to reports. “Today is a celebration meant to unite. The H-1B program is often exploited and abused by U.S. employers, and their U.S. clients, primarily seeking to hire foreign workers and pay lower wages,” said Acting DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli. “The current use of random selection to allocate H-1B

visas makes it harder for businesses to plan their hiring, fails to leverage the H-1B program to truly compete for the world’s best and brightest, and hurts American workers by bringing in relatively lower-paid foreign labor at the expense of the American workforce.” This effort would only affect H-1B registrations submitted by prospective petitioners seeking to file H-1B cap-subject petitions. It would be implemented for both the H-1B regular cap and the H-1B advanced degree exemption, but would not change the order of selection between the two as established by the H-1B registration requirement final rule. DHS will open a public comment period once the NPRM is published in the Federal Register. Interested parties will have 30 days to submit comments relevant to the proposed rule and 60 days to submit comments relevant to the proposed information collection. The Department will review all properly submitted comments, consider them carefully, and draft responses before issuing a final rule.

BY A STAFF WRITER SALISBURY, MD- President Trump recently announced the recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, who included one Indian American teacher, Hemalatha Bhaskaran of Maryland. Awardees were selected from schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity schools, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States territories which includes American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands. Nominations and awards were facilitated by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation, according to a press release. Bhaskaran has been teaching at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, Maryland, since 2004. In her 15-plus years as an educator, she has taught biology, chemistry, environmental science, and advanced placement environmental science across freshmen to senior levels. She has also served as a mentor-teacher in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s program “Teachers on the Estuary Data Edition,” which is a professional development program that provides hands-on outdoor learning experiences for teachers. Bhaskaran earned an M.S. in environmental science from Bharathiyar University and a M.A.T. from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Established in 1983, PAEMST is the highest award given by the United States government to kindergarten through 12th grade teachers of mathematics and science, including computer science. A panel of distinguished mathematicians, scientists, and educators at the state and national levels assess the applications before recommending nominees to OSTP. Teachers are selected based on their distinction in the classroom and dedication to improving science, technology, engineering, and math education.

Indian-Origin New York Cop Called Hero For Disarming Alleged Killer While Off-Duty BY A STAFF WRITER QUEENS, NY- An off-duty police officer witnessed a fatal shooting in a New York City deli and tackled and disarmed the gunman, police said. The shooting happened at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 26 inside a deli in the Jamaica section of Queens. Police said 63-year-old Steven Cohen shot a customer in the stomach. Officer Jason Maharaj tackled Cohen, wrestled the gun away from him and held him until uniformed officers arrived, police said. Police Commissioner Dermot Shea tweeted, “On & off-duty, your NYPD cops put their lives on the line to protect New Yorkers — it’s what they do.” The shooting victim, Mohmediyan Tarwala, 26, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The alleged assailant identified as Steven Cohen entered the shop and argued with Tarwala and was asked to leave the store and two employees pushed him out. He returned and shot Tarwala in the

stomach and fired at another employee, but he was not hurt. Cohen, who police say is homeless, was

arrested on charges including murder and criminal use of a firearm. It’s not clear if he has an attorney who can respond to the charges.

Oakton to Receive $1.5 Million Grant from Department of Education to Serve Minority Students BY A STAFF WRITER DES PLAINES, IL – Oakton Community College will bolster efforts to support underrepresented populations thanks to the $1.5 million Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Oakton is the first community college in Illinois to receive this award. The AANAPISI is one of eight federally designated Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) programs. MSIs are defined as institutions of higher education that serve minority populations. They are unique both in mission and day-to-day operations, with priorities that include increasing awareness of educational inequalities, and communicating and sharing programs and resources to ensure more Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students enroll in and complete college. Oakton’s fall 2020 enrollment consists of nearly 25% AAPI students. “Illinois has the fifth largest AAPI population in the nation, and we are honored that Oakton has been selected as an AANAPISI institution, recognizing the large breadth of diversity with our student population,” Oakton President

In a recent report with recommendations for improving data collection on AAPIs, the Washington D.C. based Institute for Higher Education Policy stated that information that has been divided into detailed sub-categories (on AAPI students) could illuminate where inequities exist and persist. By neglecting to separate data into separate categories and perpetuating invisibility

in data collections, policymakers at all levels — federal, state, and institutional — will continue to fail and disenfranchise AAPI students across the country. In addition, the grant allows Oakton to establish the Center for Organizing Minority Programs to Advance Student Success (COMPASS). COMPASS seeks to improve success rates by engaging students in high-impact activities designed to increase engagement and help them make informed decisions regarding course and program design. Activities will include providing culturally relevant academic advising for AAPI students, partnering with local high schools to improve early college persistence and implementing faculty training and development programs. Through the grant, Oakton also will collect data allowing the College to respond to the unique needs of AAPIs subgroups most in need of attention and resources. BY A STAFF WRITER LA PINE, OG - A La Pine, Oregon, man was sent to the state mental hospital for 20 years for brutally beating a 70-year-old Indian American woman in a racist attack late last year. James David Lamb, Jr. was one of the first people in Oregon charged under a new hate crime law for seriously injuring the co-owner of the Hub Motel, Meena Puri. Puri is an Indian immigrant who has lived with her family in Central Oregon for most of her life. Early on Dec. 31, 2019, Lamb broke into the office of the Hub Motel, where he was staying, after Puri told him he couldn’t use the office phone. Lamb’s wife had driven him to the motel the night before because he was acting abusive toward her, according to Redmond Police, the report said. Lamb broke down the office door, grabbed Puri by the hair, shook her head and struck her and kicked her with his work boots after she fell on the ground. Lamb reportedly told police investigators he wanted to “rid America of people like her.” Puri suffered fractures to her neck, cheekbone and shoulder and was hospitalized for several weeks. A motel manager told a search of Lamb’s trashed hotel room revealed evidence of methamphetamine use. The 54-year-old Lamb appeared recently in Deschutes County Circuit Court to answer to charges of bias crime, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault. A charge of attempted murder was dropped as part of his plea deal. Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said his office insisted the hate crime charge remain. Lamb was evaluated by psychological experts for the state and defense. Both agreed he met the legal criteria for a defense of guilty except for insanity, the report said.

Mayor Lightfoot, CDPH, and BACP Reinstate Targeted COVID-19 Restrictions in Response to Rapid Rise in Cases and Hospitalizations MAYOR’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE CHICAGO, IL – Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot today joined Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Commissioner Allison Arwady, M.D., and Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) Commissioner Rosa Escareno to announce a retightening of COVID-19 restrictions in response to a recent, rapid rise in cases and hospitalizations over the past two weeks. Beginning Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 a.m., a business curfew will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for all nonessential businesses, and bars without a retail food license will no longer be able to serve customers indoors. All Chicagoans are being asked to avoid social gatherings of more than six people and end all social gatherings by 10:00 p.m. These restrictions and guidelines will be in effect for at least two weeks and are targeted to help Chicago manage an alarming recent rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

“The rapid rise we’re experiencing in COVID-19 cases across all demographics, zip codes and age groups is consistent with what public health experts and responsible leaders have been predicting for months,” said Mayor Lightfoot. “This moment is a critical inflection point for Chicago, and these new restrictions and guidelines represent our ongoing effort to stay ahead of this pandemic through the data and science of this disease. Countless Chicagoans have done an outstanding job in being responsible and following public health guidance, but now we all must double-down on

our commitment to our health and the health of our city in order to bend the curve and shape our future back to where it needs to be.” Over the past week alone, cases have risen by 54%, to over 640 per day. While daily testing has increased to over 11,000 tests per day, the positivity rate has also risen to 6.4%, which means that that the increase in testing does not fully explain the rise in cases. This is coinciding with a worrying increase in hospitalizations, which for non-ICU COVID patients and suspected cases are up 45% since September 22. Under the State of Illinois guidelines, the Chicago region will face additional mitigation measures, including reduced capacity of all gatherings and closure of indoor dining, if the positivity rate rises above 8% for three straight days. “The data tell us we’re in the midst of a second surge, and it’s a call to action to redouble our efforts to fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Arwady. ”We bent the curve once and I know we

can do it again by closely adhering to the public health guidance. We don’t take this move lightly but to be clear, this is about saving lives.” Effective for two weeks beginning Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 am, all non-essential businesses must close to the public from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Businesses that were deemed essential during the Stay at Home Order, such as grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations, may remain open during the business curfew hours. Restaurants may continue operating for take-out or delivery, but indoor or outdoor consumption of food or alcohol must cease at 10:00 p.m. Additionally, all bars, taverns, or breweries that do not have a Retail Food Establishment License will no longer be able to serve customers indoors at any time. All establishments that serve alcohol for on-site consumption must end alcohol service at 9:00 pm before closing at 10:00 p.m. under the business curfew. All other existing restrictions remain in place, including indoor capacity limits of 40% or 50 people within a room or space.
