Who knew how poignant the 2015 San Diego County Fair theme “A Fair to Remember” would become in 2020? We asked our social media followers to send us favorite photos, memories or thoughts about the Fair. Here’s what they shared.
Steven and Jack Malinoski of Santee enjoy a rollercoaster at the fair last year.
“We are sooo missing the livestock shows!” says Bernie Lopez of Poway. “Our favorite memories are seeing kids show off their projects in all areas of the fair. Proud moments!” Here, daughter Jessica takes Grand Champion in the Small Animals category.

“My family is already missing the fair so much! We go every year,” says Kiana Moyers of Serra Mesa.
We know it’s summer when we see the fairgrounds light up at night,” says Jody Cates of Rancho Peñasquitos. “My whole family loves, loves, loves the livestock. I was even tempted to get some chickens when I saw the handsome head of hair on this one. Happy to say, my kids talked me out of becoming an urban chicken farmer!”
“My boys have always loved the San Diego County Fair,” says Chula Vista resident, Kristen Castillo. “Here’s my son Frankie when he was 5 (now 11) at the petting zoo.”
“I think this is a Unicorn Float— my daughter loved it!” says Katherine Graves of Paradise Hills. “Cotton candy on top of raspberry soda with candy all over it.”
“We just did a virtual fair day at home,” says Heather Walsh of North County. Their family created an art exhibit and watched a “day on the farm” video on YouTube. For authentic tastes and smells, they ate cotton candy popcorn and caramel apple-flavored cookies and burned a funnel cake candle! “The fair looks different this year, but the celebration of creativity, learning and family time continued,” says Heather.
