Chula Vista Live Steamers Train at Rohr Park
4548 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita www.chulavistalivesteamers.org Check website for current schedule as it only runs a couple times a month. Rides are free, but donations are appreciated. After the train ride, have a picnic at Rohr Park and play at the playground.
Balboa Park Miniature Train at the Zoo
1800 Zoo Pl., San Diego https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/ attractions/miniature-train Built in 1948, the miniature train travels along a half-mile loop near the Balboa Park Carousel. Operates daily; $3 to ride.
Pacific Southwest Railway Museum
750 Depot St., Campo www.psrm.org Experience a full-scale vintage train ride that takes passengers through East County’s backcountry. Departs from Campo station on weekends. Before or after the train ride, visit the museum with railroad equipment in various stages of restoration.
Poway-Midland Railroad at Old Poway Park

Explore bridges, a fountain and great climbing trees at Old Poway Park after your train ride or head to the Hamburger Factory for lunch.
