SAT OCT 17, 8PM DUETS – DIANNE REEVES, CHUCHO VALDÉS & JOE LOVANO
An evening of piano duets with three masters of jazz. Winner of six Grammy ® and three Latin Grammy ® Awards, the Cuban pianist, composer, and arranger Chucho Valdés is the most influential figure in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. Fivetime Grammy ® Award winner Dianne Reeves is the pre-eminent jazz vocalist in the world today — her arsenal of talents is richly on display in each and every song of her limitless repertoire. Hailed by The New York Times as “one of the greatest musicians in jazz history,” Grammy ® Award-winning saxophone titan Joe Lovano has distinguished himself as a visionary and pathfinding force in the arena of creative music. SAT FEB 6, 8PM JAZZ TRUMPET MASTERS
A lively and exciting concert that puts the spotlight on Jazz @ the Jacobs’ curator Gilbert Castellanos’ favorite instrument: the trumpet. Join Castellanos and a few of the world’s greatest trumpet players on the scene today as they pay tribute to Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown, Clark Terry, Miles Davis, and Freddie Hubbard, just to name a few.
SAT NOV 28, 8PM THE JOEY ALEXANDER TRIO
A funny thing happened to Joey Alexander over the past five years, a whirlwind period during which he became the most brilliantly precocious talent in jazz history—that is, a renowned festival and concert-hall headliner; the youngest musician ever nominated for a Grammy® Award in a jazz category; and a media favorite who’s earned a profile on "60 Minutes", a frontpage profile in The New York Times and other premier coverage. SAT MAR 27, 8PM DIZ N’ BIRD THE QUINTET: JAZZ AT MASSEY HALL
Join Charles McPherson in an all-star quintet as they recreate Dizzy Gillespie’s and Charlie Parker’s historic 1953 performance of Jazz at Massey Hall. “Perdido,” “Salt Peanuts,” “A Night In Tunisia,” and “Hot House” are a few of the most influential and ever-so relevant selections of the jazz repertoire for musicians and listeners today. This amazing take on these compositions stands the test of time.
