Meet Lara Knight

What was your path to becoming a wedding gown designer?

I like to say that it’s in my lineage! I am the fifth generation in my family to be a seamstress. It really is my calling. From childhood, dressing up and fashion were a big part of my life. After studying at FIT, I worked with top fashion designers in New York City for over 20 years and I immersed myself in couture. My family has now happily settled in Connecticut, enjoying the new lifestyle and the expansion of my bridal design studio.

I am so lucky to be able to follow my passion and do what I love every day, working with brides to create the gown of their dreams.

What would you say is unique about a Lara Knight wedding gown?

Every gown I create is hand built from scratch. I express the vision of the brides who come to me to create the gown of their dreams. My team sources the most exclusive fabrics from France and custom beading from the finest craftspeople worldwide to create their unique wedding masterpiece. Along with the beauty of the gown, the perfect fit and feel are of utmost importance in my designs.

What can a bride-to-be expect during the process of creating a custom gown?

We work intimately to design and create exactly what they want, leaving no detail spared. From the first consultation, through design sketches, fittings, and the ultimate gown, fit to perfection, their vision and personality are reflected. Each step of the way, we incorporate their wishes for their special gown for one of the most important days of their life.

The process of working with Lara, going to fittings and watching my dress come to life was something I will cherish forever!

Do you offer a ready-to-wear collection?

We are excited to have recently launched a new line of ready-to-wear gowns. My debut collection features gowns that reflect beauty and elegance with my signature focus on fit. Not every bride wants to go the custom route, so I’m thrilled to offer this alternative that complements our custom couture.

Do you have any tips for the bride to be?

Fit is everything. Knowing a gown has structure and support so you can have an effortless evening is everything. You want to trust your designer and work with them in person to ensure the perfect fit. I love the dresses I make, and I want to ensure you do, too!

My goal is to express each bride’s unique style, during one of the happiest moments of their life. It’s an honor to be a part of that.
